Starc also averages 30.11 against Australia's relevant opposition (England, India, SAF, NZ) with an SR of 56.76 and an ER of 3.18. He pads his stats out against minnows, with half of his 5-fors and both of his 10-fors coming against Sri Lanka. He preys on easy teams and crumbles against teams that show any amount of grit.
Starc ain’t the same player he once was. That being said at least for Adelaide he’s definitely in the team. The question mark is definitely over the second opener spot. Khawaja should get it, but when he’s back it has to be Pucovski.
Starc might take wickets but I think they are more accidental than anything - his control over his line and length is very poor. Whatever pressure Cummins and Hazlewood create for the batting side is undone when Starc comes on. He might get you out, but he's also likely to give you a couple of freebies every over too.
Jhye Richardson deserves a place neser too. Its been 5 years aussie are playing the same trio of fast bowlers. With starc being the one who should be dropped here
@@johnmichaelides5585 yes but there's no other opener really knocking hard on the door at the moment. I don't know if Burns is in good form or not, but if he was they could bring him back. He's had good text success before. Will Pucovski seems to be struggling for fitness or form. Khawaja can do a good job for two or three years yet. I'm personally not convinced by Marcus Harris as a test opener. I could be wrong, but he is running out of chances. There's always Matt Renshaw who seems to have come back into some good form, but I think Khawaja has the quality to go with. Yes, Henry Hunt looks like a good player.
If Neser was English he might have played 50 tests. Yeah I’m sure he would have been picked ahead of Anderson, Broad, Woakes, Archer, Wood, Stone etc. you can criticize England’s side a lot, but not their seam bowling.
If England loses Amazing Adelaide, the English could very well be staring down the barrel of 5-0. the problem England faces right now, apart from being one down, is they are miles behind, they were psychologically destroyed in Brisbane, we saw it once Malan and Root lost their wickets, the English went back into their shells, the English were broken before the first drinks break.
imo, Michael Nesser must be selected. It would be a travesty for the Australian selectors to so badly use Nesser, dangling the carrot in front of him for 2 years, running the drinks for the team and not give him a chance to play himself out of the team. He hasn't even been given a chance yet. No one knew before Rodney Hogg was selected how well he would do in Test cricket. But, he was given a chance and he subsequently made that position his own. It would be wrong of the selectors not to give Nesser a chance after all he has done for them. I have so much more to say on the subject, but I'll leave it there for the time being.
It’s really bad luck for Neser tbh, a fast bowling spot in the Aussie team is always hard to compete for. But he’s competing with a bloke who’s already been in the test side and has taken something like 23 on an average of 14 in the current shield season.
Such gracious victors. And I now learn that Lyon “couldn’t bowl them to victory” against India last summer. As opposed to India taking the game away from them despite fielding their deepest bench players. 🙄
It had more to do with attacking style of play against spin . We were able to go 4 rpo against him without losing any wicket which put the pressure back on fast bowlers to deliver and its tough when they are in their 3rd 4th spell
You dont pick team based upon 1st innings its picked for whole game. Australia played lyon my question is had they won the toss and bowled first on a green top would they have dropped lyon? Dont think so
My Xl for second test Alex Carey ( wk ) Usman khawaja Labushange Steve Smith ( vc) Head Green Pat Cummins ( c) Richardson Starc N Lyon Swepson Go with extra balling option maybe English side try to fightback 2nd test
Dropping harris after 1 game ? What does that do with his confidence and they should add khawaja in place of warner and richardson in place of hazlewood
I don’t think they want Carey to open, last innings was purely because Warner was out and it’s a chance to get him more time out in the middle. And in a day/night test there’s no chance they’ll pick a 2nd spinner and only 2 seamers regardless of the backup of Green. Neser would play before Swepson for sure.
you've unnecessarily dropped an extra batsman and added a spinner. In this line up remove swepson, (i personally think zampa is better than swespon) then add renshaw to start with uzzy. Warner isnt 100% so add renshaw over bringing back harris in. In addition, if the aussies wanted another spinner they should just use labuschange.
Starc has 258 wickets in 62 tests...give him a break......legend...warnie is just a teenage trapped in a middle aged mans body.

Warnie is definately a teenager trapped in a mans body but he is the best spinner to have played.

Tubby is so great to listen too… this is a good show!
I know they were joking, but I would vote for Pat Cummings to be prime minister.
If Harris does not hit a big score in Adelaide, I think Khawaja should be there permanently. This is the test to prove himself

Very true fielding let them down
He gets in front of robinson and stone
Archer is always injured
fast bowling isnt the issue their batting and spin bowling are the big issues
Mr Straya totally agree

They also have no batting depth. They have Root and Stokes the all-rounder, that's it.
I think you always want to bat first in test match cricket so that the pitch deteriorates and it's easier to get them out in the 4th innings.
0:46 I thought Harris had a Headache in the same sense that Hazelwood has an injury.
Fancy skittling in and knock leg stump first ball at 148 kms thats unreal , brayshaws reaction was the only fitting one
