      @@a3jan I'm here because I here, you got a problem with that? Also if Mojang actually "did what the majority wanted," then we would've had a cave update a looooong timr ago. People have been asking for this years and Mojang sees this a code word for Update Aquatic, Village and Pillage, Bees and Bugs, New Combat, and Nether. WTF is their problem???! And also, if Mojang was actually somewhat decent at both 1.8 and 1.9 pvp, they would've gone a whole separate direction regarding pvp. They only care about the community when they accidentally enrage 90% of it such as when Grumm_ removed quasi-connectivity for one snapshot. The "Minecon Earth" sh*t is to create an illusion that Mojang cares about the community by adding a "vote" every year. Mojang also frequently makes false promises and ruins core aspects of the game. The Phantom punishes players for not sleeping, 1.9 combat punishes people for not timing their attacks, there are so many instances when Mojang punishes people for doing things "wrong" instead of rewarding people for doing things "right." Lastly, Mojang is very quick to say they aren't going to implement certain features, examples of these are bluestone, vertical slabs, auto-crafting tables, gamerules to toggle pvp, and of course a cave update, as they claim these "limit creativity" or "removes the challenge" or "the majority doesn't want it" or "it ruins the game." As an active member of the pvp community, building community, redstone community, and technical community, this angers me. Mojang knows that their game is large enough that they could ruin a few communities and still make a profit. Mojang isn't "listening to the majority" they are only doing stuff in their benefit, as like anything else, they are a business and they just want money. However, if we are stand together we can force changes upon Mojang, but this will take a lot more than just the "majority."

    I really like how Vanilla this feature feels. Apart from the fact that I think Mojang would prefer no autocrafting in Minecraft to keep the Minecraft-y feel, I think it would fit the game quite nicely.
    However I'd like to argue with two of your design decisions.
    Firstly, I think the crafting hopper should be a crafting dispenser. The dispenser always took care of the more complex functionality. The dropper came to the rescue when the demand of **dropping** items was present. I think the dropper should be dropping in any case.
    Secondly, I don't like the random-crafting aspect you proposed towards the end of the video. We have had reliable ways of randomizing in minecraft for quite some time now and I don't see the benefit in this decision. Particularly, not being entirely deterministic feels odd to me. I think that in order to craft an item you should be very sure about which item you craft.
    Thirdly, I feel like auto crafting should be a very late-game option for the player. Don't you think that using dispensers (or droppers in your proposal) are too easily accessible? I have no proper counter proposal myself, but I feel like the player should have to work hard for auto crafting to become a thing.
    Keep the good work up!

    • @gunhasirac
      @gunhasirac 4 роки тому +23

      As ilmango mentioned in his own video. The point is, there’s way of auto-crafting that is not “easy”, so that people only need few stacks or maybe tens of stacks won’t even bother to make the contraption. Only those are making ridiculous quantity will want automate this process and will worth the time of making the contraption. So the block is used in the contraption is not the main part, the complexity and effort needed for the contraption is.

    • @Firigion
      @Firigion 4 роки тому +6

      Regarding dispensers, I proposed the same thing during development. But the thing is, besides the points he makes in the video, the dispenser interacts with the world, the dropper with container blocks. I know the crafting table is not a comntainer block, but it still has an inventory. It somehow feels right.

    • @shadow_vertex
      @shadow_vertex 4 роки тому +13

      I think you didn't understand how the "random crafting" would work. In Vanilla Minecraft droppers always drop an item from a random slot (as long as the slot has items). So the idea is that when the items in the carfting dropper don't make a recipe, it just does the thing it would normally do - drop a (random) item. So it just keeps doing that and eventually it either has a recipe and crafts something (that will always happen with planks for example) or just drops all the items one by one. So you are still in complete control of what you craft, it only spits out random items when you put items in it that don't make a crafting recipe.

    • @gnembon
      @gnembon  4 роки тому +15

      Yeah - random crafting was just to show some sideeffects of keeping vanilla behaviours with it. In hindsight - maybe adding it to the dispenser would be a better idea, as with a crafting table in front of it it already knows what to do.
      With vanilla-vanilla it woudn't be an issue, but carpet-extra already has multiple extra functionality added to the dispenser doing most of the player actions, meaning conflicts with crafting could be more and more possible. I thought I would leave world-interactions to the dispenser, and crafting as 'not a world interaction' leave to the dropper instead.

    I have demonstrated a few autocrafting table designs that can do some pretty impressive recipes at high speed and in bulk without the need for MTE's, my main issue is that autocrafting dropper frees up too many constraints making the autocrafting process too powerful in respect to manually crafting items for smaller applications, plus the scalabilty for autocrafting table synergises well with the effort vs reward, for example really basic item converters can be made 1wt and very compact whilst more universal systems require more components and resources to automate more complex tasks, either way these mods are pretty well designed so I'd like to appreciate your contributions to the game.

  • @phiefer3

    This is an interesting idea and it also seems pretty well balanced, since while it is automated it's nowhere near as fast as manual crafting. So I think it strikes a nice balance between being convenient without being too convenient.

    I had this EXACT same idea about a year ago, but I was never able to implement it. However I feel the whole dropper/dispenser has inconsistencies that need clearing up.
    If it was up to me, I’d change droppers so that they DROP items right in front of them, no acceleration, just straight up drop downwards. I’d then change dispensers so that they’d shoot items forward (or whatever way they’re facing) like, launch the item 4/5 blocks in front of them, so lots of forward momentum. I’d also remove all functionality of a dispenser doing things (placing water, using sheers, shooting arrows, etc...)
    I’d then add another block called an Activator, which would basically act like the dispenser does now, shooting arrows, placing bucket, sheer, fill water bottles, use flint and steel, shoot fire charges (I’d also change fire charges so that they can be thrown by the player, just for fun). This activator would then be the block that has the functionality to craft an item when facing into a crafting table. I’d make it a little more elegant so that the item just appears on top of the crafting table when crafted. The activator crafting recipe would just be the dropper recipe, with a gold ingot in the middle (to add more functionality to gold, because let’s be honest, it’s useless right now)
    I feel although adding an extra block to the game, it actually makes things simpler because it makes thing more consistent. You know what to expect from each block.

  • @Surtwo
    @Surtwo 4 роки тому +1

    This looks amazing! The only two tweaks I would make are to have the crafted items appear on top of the crafting table rather than inside it, and to allow items to stack inside crafting droppers regularly. While I understand your rationale for having non-stacking items, I think that if one is mass-producing something enough to automate it, you may as well require there to be stacks of input at a time.

    • @gnembon
      @gnembon  4 роки тому

      But, as I explained, crafting table doesn't have an inventory - it is a simple block. So in vanilla - its not possible. If you start changing that you might as well add a new block for that, but there is plenty of them in 'modded' already.

    I have no idea if you're going to see this, but something that I would love as a non-technical player QOL upgrade would be the use of some other function key that a mod would recognize and semi-auto craft -- that is whatever recipe you have in the crafting table it will make as many of that item as you have materials for in your inventory. Ideally this would not require any redstone or a (not too complicated) build, just ctrl-shft (I have no idea if this key combo is already taken) click and 36 stacks of bamboo gets turned into 18 stacks of sticks.

    I believe the best solution would be the creation of a new block which has the crafting dropper functionality you described and is crafted from a crafting table, dispenser, shulker box, and maybe some other resource which is renewable but requires a unique farm, lets go with a glowstone block which could be gotten from witches or a quarry. Along with that addition should come a way to make shulker shells renewable. I am imagining a unique new way in which a baby shulker monster "egg" (icon is a box) is made by crafting from an eye of ender, a chest, and one shulker shell. Drop rate of shulker shells in adults should be increased to be net positive. The baby shulker could be placed by hand or by dispenser like any other monster egg. I think that would make for a very interesting end game automation of crafting.

  • @riverground

    I think it does make sense for it to be the dropper and not the dispenser. The dropper actually already has special interactions; if it points into a storage container it will but the item there rather than dropping it. In this way it makes sense that it would kinda "put" the item into the crafting table. The special actions for the dispenser are more about using items, and just using an item (aka right clicking with it) on a crafting table is not enough to actually craft.

  • @VictorGamerLOL
    @VictorGamerLOL 4 роки тому

    Mojang just tries to keep this one activity manual because we can right now automate everything in minecraft, the only thing we do not automate is crafting. It just wants us to do not convert survival in creative through a lot of farms. This is awesome but unfortunately mojang does not want us to do this.
    Oh and also here are a few suggestions:
    In the dropper GUI add two buttons that enables crafting mode and stacking mode. Crafting mode will make the dropper actually craft things if its facing a crafting table, and stacking mode will allow items to stack, if you are crafting large quantities.
    If the items in a dropper match the recipe, it will drop a crafting mould, and it drops it out, and after it reaches a crafting table , the final item will popup, so the dropper and crafting do not have to be next to eachother.
    While in crafting mode, you can make it so it filters which item goes in which slot, and you can say which slots will not be used. This will cut the need of using junk items.

  • @hindigente
    @hindigente 4 роки тому +2

    Things I like about the design:
    1. Improves on mechanics of existing blocks instead of adding new ones;
    2. Functions through the interaction between a couple of blocks (instead of being just a single block);
    3. Doesn't require that regular blocks become block entities;
    4. Doesn't require that block entities are movable (although that would be nice);
    5. Automation which requires lots of external redstone still has quite a vanilla feel to it.
    Things I don't like:
    1. Changing droppers' behaviour feels weird. Dispensers would work well so long as they they're prevented from shooting thing when there's a full block right in front of them;
    2. Dropping/shooting items *through* solid blocks, like crafting tables, does not feel like vanilla;
    3. Items not stacking in droppers when there is a crafting table in front of them seems kind of artificial;
    4. 2x2 recipes which only take one item type shouldn't be harder to craft than 3x3.
    I still think it would be a very nice addition, but there are probably better ways to implement automation in Minecraft.

    While I do prefer the aesthetics of the crafting table tile entity method, this does seem to be slightly more vanilla - however if this ever got implemented officially, it would probably be its own block, something like both (or neither) solutions.

    This, and beacon chunk loading, are the exact features that we need to bridge the gap between the technical community and the conventional minecraft community. This feature is simple enough that regular players can implement it's more basic configurations without a guide, but it's nuanced enough that technical players can take advantage of it.

    • @gnembon
      @gnembon  4 роки тому +1

      There are already vanilla chunk loaders in 1.14/1.15. There is no need to mod them in.

  • @wookiecd
    @wookiecd 4 роки тому

    The loaders/unloaders are the first thing I'm hurting for in vanilla, and this looks like a good solution. I wish technical minecrafters could advocate for a crafting solution that substitutes any use of timing mechanics for something which would be accessible to more players. EG an auto-crafter block with a recipe 3x3 (configured by the player) and an ingredients 3x3 fillable by hoppers.

    • @wookiecd
      @wookiecd 4 роки тому

      Or, even better, a template block which would be configured 3x3 by the player, and modify a dropper's behavior in the same way this video shows a dropper's behavior modified by a crafting table.

    • @gnembon
      @gnembon  4 роки тому +1

      That implies new blocks with new functions. You have got blocks like that in 'modded' minecraft already. Here we try to not to affect vanilla as possible and adding new blocks is not even considered.

    To the question "should it click" -- I would love it if there was different mechanic:
    Completely mute the sounds from any blocks/entities positioned behind a block of wool, from the perspective of your character.
    When you stand in your "machine room", it's loud as fuck with all the clicking and pistoning. Insulate the ceiling of your basement with a layer of wool, and no one can hear you scream.

    i definitely like that this version of the auto crafter outputs items with a redstone signal. however, mojang would never introduce a janky multiblock autocrafter, and we still kinda have a problem with dealing with filler items.

  • @germandkdev

    My suggestion would be that the hopper never stops filling the dropper, so just changing the input pattern... That way they still behave like normal droppers, also the comparator should still have the normal signal, but the crafting table next to it gives out the new signals or maybe change the signal of the dropper if a crafting table is next to it

    I feel like sci-craft should make the decision to add auto-crafting to the server. I think it's pretty obvious that Mojang doesn't plan on adding any of these ideas to the game. I know that SciCraft being vanilla is important, but I also think that adding these HUGE QoL features would make it worth it

    that means, that using on stack of random item, one dropper and one one comparator, you can datect crafting table. This mey be good for block sorting, but IMO, it is kinda weird, that placing block next to dropper can change it comparator output. I like crafting table more

    Maybe you could use different redstone signal strengths to chose which slot in the crafting table is activated (allow an item to go in)
    1 2 3. 2 3 5
    4 5 6. 7 8 10
    7 8 9. 12 13 15
    Like this or this
    (The numbers represent signal strength, the position represents the slot in the crafting table.)

    I think somehow the dropper idea would not be acceptable as being 3x3. I discuss the completeness of the solution here as it would be the questions I would ask in a development meeting and could be used a veto to not add the feature. I am thinking that currently both the auto-crafting table and auto-crafting dropper are crafting table specific. A good point here, not adding a new block simplifies a lot solving the interaction with the whole ecosystem. However they still both add a new behavior that can be applied to some other ones. One may want auto-crafting loom, stonecutter, grindstone (dropping xp balls?), maybe not xp input based blocks though but why not in the long term. The loom has no real reason to be automated though so could be ignored I guess. Is this consistent with the others auto-crafting blocks like the brewing stand, the furnaces? they both take time so the dropper idea would not work there. Also, the other blocks do not match the 3x3 "crafting" grid interface. And for the stone cutter you have multiple blocks outputs for only one input how would the selection be done? I like the base idea of the hard to do auto-crafting, but wonder how it could be done in a way that applies everywhere.

    I think this is a fantastic idea, but i must agree that it should be made a "late game" item. Maybe have a special item required that takes a dragon egg/head or shulker shells to craft - just to ensure its not a "day1" contraption.

    • @arthaiser
      @arthaiser 4 роки тому

      4 months late but... to use this you need a good amount of hoppers and comparactors and repeaters so is by no means a day 1 build, plus what good is an autocrafter when you dont have anything to autocraft? this thing can only be used when you have already a farm with enough output or enough raw materials to make it worth to produce an item perpetually instead of just making a couple stacks here and there. there is no need to make it expensive

    cool idea, tho id suggest a one improvement: you could test number of connected inputs (adjacent hoppers) and if there are 2 or 3 limit fill to one row from each, that would clean up/simplify redstone for most of realistic applications by getting rid of those ugly hackish filler items and related circuitry

    • @gnembon

      These 'hackish' filler items and 'related circutry' is what defines vanilla technical minecraft. You seem to describe a 'modded' approach - give one new block that solves fully particular problem.

    Now I’m not sure if it would work, but when crafting honey blocks, could you maybe use empty bottles instead of an iron nugget as a filler item? And then once the honey is crafted the empty bottles that are left over get sucked down by the hopper?
