This is a really great suggestion and would be amazing to have in the game. I like the idea of them dropping something that can be used to craft soul items, which keeps the recipes more in line with their non-soul item counterparts. The conversion to sand and dirt is a great idea from a technical perspective, but it feels off from my experience as a survival builder and sometimes redstoner. It would definitely change the ambience of the biome and doesn't seem to have much equivalents in the game. The closest that I can think of are podzel creation or frost walker ice formation, but the former is more akin to grass spreading and the latter isn't permanent. Maybe it's akin to concrete powder to block conversion, but that's very much a crafting decision not a characteristic of part of the world. Tweak those couple of issues and Minecraft should 100% include this in the update. Don't tweak those issues and Minecraft should still add this to the update.
this guy plays on easy mode where there is probably 2 ghasts flying around. in my world the whole biome is a wasteland of fire now because of ghasts it needs to be fixed.
whoa!! this is amazing! even if Mojang doesn't add the mob exactly as you designed it, I feel like a mob which at least takes up most of the mob cap in soul sand valleys (and which takes the soul from soul sand/soil (think of the crazy farm designs!), although that might be too much to as for). the game already has many redundant biomes, so making one worse than redundant by making it an absolute hell to traverse by bombarding players with ghasts doesn't seem like a very good idea. simple and clean solution gnembon, keep it up
Thanks for making me search endlessly on the minecraft website for where the article for this update was. I probably should've looked at this video for a bit longer.
I had an idea similar to this that I posted in feedback. Only, instead, they would hide in soul sand, (sort of like silverfish & stone / bees & hives). Walking over an infested block would deal some damage, and cause the soul to come out and attack you. Walking over it with soul speed kills / frees the spirit, and give you XP.
Wow. I can tell a lot of work has gone into this video! I love the glitch effect you've done at 0:33 and the juxtaposition between the chaos of the nether and the plain white background at 2:07! It's gives a very intuitive and educational feel to the particular section of the video. The production value (if you could say that) has increased by a noticeable amount and it really pays off! Well done!
Love the idea, super cute concept on top of the practicality. At one point in your video a few appear to be marching in a line, and that being done intentionally feels like a great addition. Almost like little kodama from Princess Mononoke. Maybe even randomly following the player, randomly stopping following. And I know I'm taking this too far, but imagine having one as a following pet? A pet that could fly with you. Maybe use dyes to color them.

This was an amazing video ! From the video to the music editing and of course the Gostlins ! This would be a wonderful addition to vanilla as it solves the both the Ghast and the dirt/sand issue ! I really liked the video and subbed immediately, than you !
Excellent music, spot on cinematography, fun concept, practical in nature and very well presented! just what i wud expect from gnembon. amazing video, thx!
If you gave the Gostlins the exact same spawn chances as ghasts, this should lead to quite a lot of pretty interesting mechanics: 1. If you are at the border of the biome, there will still be hardly any ghasts or gostlins around, just like now. 2. As you enter, it's as if the souls in the ground start to wake up! (both mobs start spawning) 3. Half of the mobs move very slowly (gostlins), but the Ghasts frequently move outside of the 50-block despawn range, or even the 128-block instant despawn range. This means that after a while of being bombarded by ghasts, there will be almost noting but gostlins left. 4. Killing Ghasts also increases the amount of gostlins that will be around. 5. You can manually farm Ghasts by going into the biome, killing a lot, then moving around until the gostlins despawn, and go back in fighting ghasts. 6. Alternatively, you can quickly kill all the gostlins to get more angry ghasts. 7. If you just want to move through without dieing, you can intentionally anger the gostlins. This means you will be followed by a mobile mobswitch! (mobcap will fill with gostlins) Just dont stop walking! 8. As gnembon showed, gostlins should have little health, meaning you can get rid of them quickly with a sweeping edge sword. 9. You could make it so gostlins only spawm on soul sand/soil blocks, which allows for easy ghast farms. 10. Making gostlins spawn only within LESS than 128 blocks might be a good way to finetune the amount of them, as well as increase the feeling of them "waking up" and leaving the blocks around them. 11. You could even bypass the usual 24-block safezone around the player for the gostlins. If you build a house there, just make sure to replace your floor.
I like the soul sand valley. It looks amazing and gives easy access to ghast tears. It's never been easier to get enough ghast tears to respawn the ender dragon to generate all the end gateway portals. Also it's a great biome for pvp focused players as it's basically the only one where you have to be carrying a good weapon and good armour at all times. The ghast are also excellent target practice. Also I feel like the skeletons are way more annoying than the ghasts there since the skeletons are a lot harder to see, hear and hit with a bow. I have never been in that biome with soulspeed boots though, that would probably make a massive difference. The biome would be way easier to be in if you set up a base (some house or at least blast proof shelter) Ghasts and skeletons don't shoot you if they can't see you after all.
@@sebastianjost Well, do you agree that the amount of ghasts is even a little too high? Instead of having so many ghostlins spawn like gnembon demonstrated, perhaps it would be better if they were a more rare spawn. This would still help to counterbalance the crazy ghast spawning a little bit.
Renewable sand from these guys, renewable gravel from piglins to make renewable concrete and a way to not get slaughtered by ghasts all while adding a new way to make to make soul fire? Hmm me likeee
This video just convinced me you could totally be a game designer. Many might have the technical skills, but clearly you have the creative thinking to solve technical problems too. Excellent work! I would love to see these guys in the game.
I actually like that the soul sand valley is really challenging. It’s nice to know that even when you get top-tier gear, there is still a place you can go that is actually dangerous, kind of like end cities.
Jacob Henn i do too, honestly i can see it being a showoff place to put your base and prevent others from visiting/ “visiting”. but i also believe this idea would be brilliant way to make it a bit less bullshiz to explore and some kind of lore is just a perfect addition in my book
@@Etrehumain123 A bounty of ghast tears. But admittedly, I tried playing 1.16 survival, completed starting iron gear, built a portal, and had five ghasts shooting at me within a second, portal extinguished, the barrage so heavy I had trouble getting cobble wall up, to survive. The only way to deal with Nether spawn like that in early game is to quickly encase the portal in cobble, then tunnel your way out of the biome.
@@verstamech The pigmen were just overworld pigs with a humanoid shape, and half of their skull rotting. The zombie piglins were very original with floppy ears, tusks and shorter eyes, so those fucks shouldnt whine about the zombie pigmen being reskinned.
Ok this is one of the best concept i ever saw. It fit perfectly with the vanilla theme, makes sense, resolve issues, add so much ambiance and perfectly balanced. I can totally see that added and honestly i hope this will get noticed by the devs. Good job that's fantastic
Personal opinion: I think soulsand valley should still being dangerous. What's the purpose of the soul speed if not to "Passing and escape that biome as quickly as possible"
I absolutely agree. Sitting on your hands and twittering your fingers isn't the best plan of action in most cases, with this being a prime example. Don't go running off in the middle of the Biome expecting to fight them unprepared, and if you want to harvest a bunch of Soul Sand, just dig under where the Ghasts can't reach you, simple. You could also make an awesome Ghast farm in this Biome, and at the very least, dig a hole in the side of a hill and snipe them occasionally. Or go Arial Dueling with Elytra and become the Ace of Aces. Ghast Tears and Regeneration Potions were ever meant to be easy to get. Also, everyone griping that Minecraft is too easy, then crying when Mojang introduces more of a challenge. Now might be the time to invest in a good suit of Blast Resistant Diamond Armor.
I'd agree that it's a fun idea to have a biome that is very dangerous, but the issue comes that such a beautiful biome is basically uninhabitable. Building a base in a soul sand valley would be an absolute pain with ghasts blowing out all your windows and burning any wood you place, and I think the point of the nether update is to make the nether just a tad bit more livable.
I like this idea a lot. It would temporarily solve the ghastly infestation problem. I could also see it introducing an interesting mechanic to deter harvesting too many peaceful ones for fear of summoning the bigger grumpy ones. It could take nuance to make a farm depending on which type, or ratio of the two you wanted, to be safe and viable. Maybe they both have the same 5x5 spawning conditions so you won't be able to just build partitions. Maybe if enough gostlins are killed in a particular way, ghasts have modified spawning rules to respond. Great idea, great video, great channel. I always enjoy and appreciate your insight! Thanks

And maybe Sand and Dirt would get souls again after some time OR (this is a weird one I know) if you kill another Gostlin on top of it.
Yes yes yes I love this!! I've always thought the game would benefit greatly from the addition of some sort of otherworldly, ghost-like mob, and you've managed to do so brilliantly! I love the little ghostly beings
I've played MC in the past till 1.8, since 1.13 i've been following it again via different channels. As a technical player i really appreciate people like u who analyse the gamemechanics and find the issues with it. Don't forget you come with ideas to improve it. i hope Mojang will lissen to you.
This idea fits very neatly into the soul (ahem) of Minecrafts core design imo! It has technical and aesthetic meaning, is slightly wacky and addresses an issue in unique way. Instead of simply just tweaking Ghast spawning altogether that is. Brilliant!
Knowing these spawn conditions will help me a lot. For example with a basalt delta area that I want to make a safe path through, having the path be 1 wide, maybe some cobblestone walls along the sides to make sure they can't spawn on it or jump up to it, seems best. Might be able to make it look cool by having it look like a rickety bridge over the various "peaks" of the jagged terrain.
Pretty cool mob! They look awesome and the extra gameplay features are definitely pretty useful, although maybe they should only spawn on soil soil / sand, that way i can still make OP ghast farms :P My other issue is that having random dirt / sand on the ground in the middle of things would look really out of place as things are right now, maybe if they were added to natural generation though..
i ended up forgeting about the main topic of the video just because of how the ghost mob will give more depth to other features in the game working with what it is already on the game unlike the pigman replacement with the piglins. great concept!
I love this idea! Although I feel it will be even cooler if they fuse together and become a ghast when a player upsets them. I also think there should be a special way you “save” these guys like only a sword will “save” it one hit any other tools will upset them(including the axe). Just some ideas.
This is a very cool concept! But i think another way for them to be somewhat cooler is to make them have the "haunt" effect. If u attack them, they can haunt u by dealing damage and maybe blindness effect, this will be another way to get the effect rather than using suspicious stews
I really like the mob, but not its name, I would call it soul wanderer or something like that. btw i love how you implemented the new song in your video XD, i love it

this guy plays on easy mode where there is probably 2 ghasts flying around. in my world the whole biome is a wasteland of fire now because of ghasts it needs to be fixed.
@@jakerz1185 he had loads of ghasts .
whoa!! this is amazing! even if Mojang doesn't add the mob exactly as you designed it, I feel like a mob which at least takes up most of the mob cap in soul sand valleys (and which takes the soul from soul sand/soil (think of the crazy farm designs!), although that might be too much to as for). the game already has many redundant biomes, so making one worse than redundant by making it an absolute hell to traverse by bombarding players with ghasts doesn't seem like a very good idea. simple and clean solution gnembon, keep it up
love the editing/structuring of this video, keep up the great work!
This NEEDS to be added. A passive mob that drops a new kind of food and leather also needs to be added in the warped forest
Thanks for making me search endlessly on the minecraft website for where the article for this update was. I probably should've looked at this video for a bit longer.
Spooky Scary Skeletons.
and a few wither skeletons too. maybe make them fight the ghosts
lol
you are an absolute genius , also the spooky intro to the nether
great work as always :)
*"get your souls on a stick here"*
I had an idea similar to this that I posted in feedback. Only, instead, they would hide in soul sand, (sort of like silverfish & stone / bees & hives). Walking over an infested block would deal some damage, and cause the soul to come out and attack you.
Walking over it with soul speed kills / frees the spirit, and give you XP.
One can easily see you put time into the design and everything, and not SOULey as a Ghast reducer
@Edmund Chow I'm not sure *wither* that is a good choice or not!
Well done!
Damn, the editing must have taken ages. Absolutly gorgeous work!
Have you watched his camera mod videos? Skill with it would make this pretty simple to pull off.
If these don't become a thing I hope he releases the mod
@@Chezrlz009 he said that a link to the data pack was in the description.
You did a really good job with this data pack! It looks amazing!
Gnembon referencing moomin made my year.
Ikr
I like the mob alot, but the last thing the nether update needs is more particles ;)
Love this idea! I've been playing the 1.16 snapshots, and even with full diamond it's an enormous pain trying to cross a soul sand valley.
After hundreds of years as a zombie piglin decays, his soul remains.
Really cool, tho I find the sand conversion idea needs some feedback still.
Players: mojang there are too many ghasts
Gnembon: mojang there are too many ghasts, even spooky ghosts would be better
Mojang: haha ghast printer go brrrrrrrr
I love this new chill format of youra. Keep it up! And yeah, the ghostlings really is such a great solution!
I really like the music switch up in this episode, love the new nether tracks and they add a great atmosphere.
Also I think the gostlin (or a similar mob) would actually really help the gameplay.. Soulsand Valleys look amazing but they're so annoying to be in ^^
This was an amazing video ! From the video to the music editing and of course the Gostlins ! This would be a wonderful addition to vanilla as it solves the both the Ghast and the dirt/sand issue ! I really liked the video and subbed immediately, than you !
Technical players always find a way to try to get renewable sand.. LOVE IT!
Excellent music, spot on cinematography, fun concept, practical in nature and very well presented! just what i wud expect from gnembon. amazing video, thx!
Ghastlings would be the souls of villagers that died in the overworld.
That would make them unbelievably stupid like the villagers and would explain suicidal behaviour
Ƿynnťari they’ll run away from u, and get close to zombified mobs
Oh, Villagers already do exactly that.
If you gave the Gostlins the exact same spawn chances as ghasts, this should lead to quite a lot of pretty interesting mechanics:
1. If you are at the border of the biome, there will still be hardly any ghasts or gostlins around, just like now.
2. As you enter, it's as if the souls in the ground start to wake up! (both mobs start spawning)
Yes we need this! I’m gonna go on to Minecraft’s discord and send them to this video!
I love how much you have put in giving this thing as well a technical purpose as a appealing story. Hats off to you
I am loving the new biomes. (Except soul sand valley, that looks amazing but is a rough biome to be in)
Edit: I like the idea! Seems well thought out!
agreed but hey it's a great biome to use that soul speed enchant
The biome would be way easier to be in if you set up a base (some house or at least blast proof shelter)
Ghasts and skeletons don't shoot you if they can't see you after all.
U r fourth
SimulatedScience fair enough! I’ve only played around with it in early game so far and it’s a bit rough. Maybe end game will make more interesting
Renewable sand from these guys, renewable gravel from piglins to make renewable concrete and a way to not get slaughtered by ghasts all while adding a new way to make to make soul fire? Hmm me likeee
This would be genuinely phenominal!
Yes but for what reward?
@@Etrehumain123 A bounty of ghast tears.
But admittedly, I tried playing 1.16 survival, completed starting iron gear, built a portal, and had five ghasts shooting at me within a second, portal extinguished, the barrage so heavy I had trouble getting cobble wall up, to survive. The only way to deal with Nether spawn like that in early game is to quickly encase the portal in cobble, then tunnel your way out of the biome.
@@verstamech I want them removed and replaced with those Gostlins, ghasts are the most annoying mob in minecraft.
@@verstamech The pigmen were just overworld pigs with a humanoid shape, and half of their skull rotting.
The zombie piglins were very original with floppy ears, tusks and shorter eyes, so those fucks shouldnt whine about the zombie pigmen being reskinned.
Your video production skills are getting amazing. Keep going. Keep doing you.
Ok this is one of the best concept i ever saw. It fit perfectly with the vanilla theme, makes sense, resolve issues, add so much ambiance and perfectly balanced. I can totally see that added and honestly i hope this will get noticed by the devs. Good job that's fantastic
Looks like a baby ghast. Would be cool if renamed to "Ghastlings" and they grow up to be ghasts, all while retaining the soul feature
Personal opinion: I think soulsand valley should still being dangerous. What's the purpose of the soul speed if not to "Passing and escape that biome as quickly as possible"
But its too dangerous at the moment. What of you just want to mine a large quantity of Soul Sand/Soil?
@@itztobii4869 spawn at least 70 withers?
@@elon6131 good luck picking the Soul Sand/Soil up before the Items get blown up 😂
I absolutely agree.
Thanks
Wanna avoid ghasts' attacks altogether? Welcome to invisibility potions.
Man, that is a really cool mob! I love their unique behavior, really feels like an ambient addition to the game.
The intro is so erie without the classical music...
I thought something was wrong with my headphones...
Didn't notice at first. It's has the nether music instead.
What a BEAUTIFUL swarming behavior! The sound effects man... well done :-]
Everyone tweet this video to Jeb, Lady Agnes, Sliced Lime, Dinnerbone
Don't. You don't want to know how annoying it is when 50 people tweet you the same vid.
@@davidameye4984 50 tweets isn't spamming. And how else will you suggest them that? See, I know spamming is wrong, but gnembon alone tweeting them has a very low chance of them noticing.
@@darklordhyper Scicraft has good connections with some some minecraft developers in general so they will get to see this. Slicedlime even tweeted once that he disliked people spamming him the same video over and over again, it doesn't have an influence on their decision-making.
Outstanding, this would fit so well
I kinda of like the fact that the soul sand valley is hard even with good gear
annoying =/= hard. With a good armour you would never die, just unable to mind your own business.
AMAZING idea. all thoughts and approaches to this perspective of balance to these nether biomes are well constructed and achievable. love it.
I love the Ghostlin concept! But instead of crafting soul torches with souls, how about we keep the current recipe and use souls to craft sand into soul sand and dirt into soul soil?
Dhruv Kuchhal no
this is just awesome! so glad you are around in the minecraft community! let's hope mojang gets some inspiration from you.
I actually think that this would be an amazing addition to the game
Legit one of the coolest tbh
Dude ur vids are just so relevant and pertinent, can't wait for mojang to spot you and get inspired
Gnembon at his finest!
dude, this is genius! this idea feels so vanilla, as i did not see any mod implemented in a looong long time.
this would be the best solution for multiple problems. i can not imagine any better way. credit, where credit is due.
alternate video title: Hard Minecraft dimension is to hard.
waj171 I mean it's too hard, people will avoid it all the time, defeating the point
its not jut hard, its just annoying
biomes in the nether should be there to be explored and not just to be avoided
i mean why add a new biome if no one is gonna explore it
It's not hard, you just end up tunneling under soul sand biomes, which I am sure it's not a intended gameplay.
@@51HeHe ya know what would make them less "annoying" maybe some sort of speed enchantment that can be applied to boots that let you walk faster on soul sand and easily avoid ghast fireballs, or idk.... a potion of fire resistance... or both.
I've been playing snapshots and I can tell you I'm loving the ghast tear farming.
@@waj171 you mean the enchantment that you can only get while trading with mobs from another biome
and also just because it can be turned into a good farm doesnt mean it should stay
awesome! outstanding work Gnembon!
7 views, 11 likes. Makes sense
Excellent. You got a new subscriber. Just a tiny thing, though, maybe Gostlins instead of only swarming you, they could also call the *few* ghasts in the area to launch fireballs. And maybe Sand and Dirt would get souls again after some time OR (this is a weird one I know) if you kill another Gostlin on top of it.
This should definitely be in the game!!! What an amazing idea!!! Thank you Gnembon!
The perfect solution for the Gast problem!! Good job man!
I love the idea, and it really would give an awesome lore! Great design!
Brilliant!
This is the best youtuber idea I have seen ever, this should be implemented
This is a good idea, it solves a problem and add new content :D
Knowing these spawn conditions will help me a lot. For example with a basalt delta area that I want to make a safe path through, having the path be 1 wide, maybe some cobblestone walls along the sides to make sure they can't spawn on it or jump up to it, seems best. Might be able to make it look cool by having it look like a rickety bridge over the various "peaks" of the jagged terrain.
Pretty cool mob!
They look awesome and the extra gameplay features are definitely pretty useful, although maybe they should only spawn on soil soil / sand, that way i can still make OP ghast farms :P
My other issue is that having random dirt / sand on the ground in the middle of things would look really out of place as things are right now, maybe if they were added to natural generation though..
i ended up forgeting about the main topic of the video just because of how the ghost mob will give more depth to other features in the game working with what it is already on the game unlike the pigman replacement with the piglins. great concept!
I'm floored, this is amazing, and very well made in-game - like a finished product already!
Absolutely amazing, you are great!
I love this idea! Although I feel it will be even cooler if they fuse together and become a ghast when a player upsets them. I also think there should be a special way you “save” these guys like only a sword will “save” it one hit any other tools will upset them(including the axe). Just some ideas.
Great idea Gnembon. Lovely presentation.
Looks amazing! Nice idea!
So close to silver play button dude! Good luck!
this is a very cool idea. I do like the lore idea of them "escaping from the soul sand"
This is a very cool concept! But i think another way for them to be somewhat cooler is to make them have the "haunt" effect. If u attack them, they can haunt u by dealing damage and maybe blindness effect, this will be another way to get the effect rather than using suspicious stews
i loved this mob and i think it would be a great mob to be added with 16.2 piglin brute
I really like the mob, but not its name, I would call it soul wanderer or something like that.
btw i love how you implemented the new song in your video XD, i love it
This video was awesome gnembon! :D The ob really is an easy way to fix all their problems and makes a lot of things easier to obtain as example for builders. Personally i have some builder friends and they dont enjoy grinding materials a lot so being able to get souls from them and also being able to use them to craft decorative items could also help them a bit. Love the videos gnembon keep it up! :)
Living in the soul sand valley is like trying to build a base in the dunes in Subnautica
Cool idea. I like how you tried sneaking ing renewable sand as well 😆
