friedric watsup yeah it sounds like you need to move the seat back more. This is always something that happens the more bolstering you have. But I would rather have it BECAUSERACECAR
Thank you 👍🏻keep up the great work love every video especially as I hope one day to own a RS and some of the mods you have covered are great and you go into great detail . Witch helps novice moders like myself 😄
The reason they switched is because the red filter was a high flow filter. The RS air box uses the end of the filter to seal the air box, but a few air filter companies have offered a flow path on that surface, which would make this big mouth part not work as well. He should have explained that instead of glossing over it in the video. www.greenfilterusa.com/store/7159
That blank-off is on the intercooler for a reason: the intercooler was actually too large and would cause condensation and water droplets to enter the intake and cause a misfire. But, you’re obviously way smarter than all the Ford engineers that designed the RS.
Matthew Byrd OMG looks like someone watched a video on this recently. That only matters in certain climate conditions. Also there are better intercooler options out there ETS intercooler made a huge improvement in air intake temps on the dyno leading to power gains. These are CA cars no issues with this.
I just don’t understand it. I’ve seen way larger intercoolers on many different cars I’ve never heard of this issue. It has to be for the 1%. Like Blake said there’s companies like ETS that make even larger and more efficient intercoolers and no problems. Why not put a blanking plate on every intercooler then. Ripped that junk off until I upgrade intercooler.
Thanks for the great video! Just to add: DMB Graphics out of the UK (they ship to US pretty fast) sell a gel decal to fill in the RS indention on the intake cover, it's great to match the Velossa block off plate!
I'd pull that thing out over the front of that bulk bumper bar. You'll get a lot more affect and feel it. That seal for the air box is to keep heat out and so the snorkel actually has a chance to suck sone air instead of from the airbox and hot engine air.
The reason Ford put the blanking plate on the inter-cooler is because the RS runs too cool. In high humidity and other situations vapor can collect on the intake tract. That comes straight out of Tyrone Johnson's own mouth on this video. ua-cam.com/video/Rc6rAzazh5M/v-deo.html
-Does it reduce a lot of intake noise from capping the top of the intake box? I know it's good getting cooler air but I also love the ''N/A type'' intake sound that the RS makes vs others turbo car. -Do you think it would get packed with snow in the winter time( I'm from canada) Thanks keep up the good vids!
I would think the plug in the existing airbox would be detrimental at speeds below 60 right? For dding, stop and go traffic, wouldn't it basically make the engine breathe worse ?
I’m not convinced that these snorkels are actually worthwhile. “Ram air” effect has got to be nil and the stock air box already pulls outside air from the top of the radiator frame which is a high air pressure area. I’m thinking the extra restriction may really give you higher delta P.
They do not specifically make a difference snorkel for the WRX. I told him there may be a good market for it but they put a lot of engineering into designing this piece to actually work not just a gimmick. So maybe in the future then we could do something but they would have to have someone close by that they could work on a concept model.
I thought about getting one for my RS but damn that's a lot of tear down for something that's really just a "look." Not sure you'd actually feel any gains from it.
can i install this snorkel after cobb stage 1 tune installed? asking because cobb webside says " installing other hardware different than the air filter , wih cause the car runs poorly. so cam i install this?
It looks sweet. But im 98% positive it doesnt do shit do to the way air was already fed to the box. That rubber gasket pushes against the bottom of the hood, so it ALREADY only pulls from the front. You just moved its inlet like.... 6 inches forward. Also.... wtf dude. Red? Its a blue car, get blue or black. Red doesnt go with blue even a little.
Looks nice but surely with the sealed air box plus a vent now on the front of the car allowing direct access for rain to come straight in and flood your air box this would be bad? Just a thought, anyone running one of these and having problems with water on filter?
Jerry Ramirez if you're going to Mod it and don't want to dump 10K on a engine build in the first 20K get the Focus RS much better car and more Mod friendly than the EJ plus way more power and handling for less 💵💵
I know how it should be fairly simple, just to me taking off a clean nice painted bumper just gives me chills. My last vehicle had shit for paint left so I could tear it apart and not give a damn, and metal can't be damaged as easily as body can XD Not used to doing body work on a practically brand-new car.
thanks for the reply. It's just on the focus st mk3 you can take off the front grill off. Would you say it's still not possible to do it without taking the bumper off.
… until this spring, when I intend to completely go over the car front to back. Ram air, intake, TB increase, exhaust, 93 octane tune, sways front and rear, coilovers, and fat rubber. It’s gonna be sick. 👍
Although it looks ace and it’s a great video I wouldn’t be doing it because I could not be arsed to take all that off for something that doesn’t make that much difference 😎
Dont buy it feom awdmods they advertise inthe pic that it comes with the seal. And its even the same price as the kit WITH the seal from other sites. Other sites at least tell you it doesnt come with it. Like focusrs shop or cj pony parts. Also you forgot to mention about 12 push clips on the underside of the bumper and 2 27s on the front of the fender wells. As you cannot get to the rear bolt for that white clamp on ether side. Its a bitch getting the thing on and lined back up again too, much easier with two people. One to hold the fucking thing tight, and the other to bolt it down as EVERY bolt is in some way difficult to deal with.
These snorkels really need to stick about 4-5" out of the grille this catch the airflow, and suck it in. It's nit a Ram Air. There's no such thing. The Ram Air name that Pontiac coined, is really an air suction device, because airflow does not stick to the body, it deflects above it 3-5", and only under throttle, primarily above 50 mph, will the suction be enough to work.
don't go for more power you wil crack the block they are so weak Ford warranty will cover it if you have mount tune products only I'm on my second engine now and my second rear drive unit. They should have made the car as sturdy as the fiesta ST 180.....
Big2009Gee who did you're tune? They were probably demanding too much torque down low. On Brandon's car Travis actually had to tune it back because the engine want to make so much torque.
Blake's Garage it is completely standard I did one track day and the RDU went the another 2k miles and the block went (5k miles total) I've had the car 5 months 2 months of that have been spent back at Ford. Now there's talk of a lot of spun bearing too. people are cracking blocks every day on the new RS look on the forums it getting serious now.
Big2009Gee interesting I have heard things but Brandon's RS has been solid no issues whatsoever. I guess time will tell. It's also seen about 5 or more trackdays.
Blake's Garage hope it stays strong for him. I love the car it handles and preforms amazingly just a bit worried with the amount of trouble I've had in a small amount of time.
How are people cracking these blocks? I've had mine for a year and so far it's been good to me. It's seen the drag strip several times and many canyon runs.
I don't even own a Rs. Or a ford for that matter, I just love your videos lol
NastE39 thanks Man!!!
Same
how do you like the fiesta ST, i was looking at it but its small af
friedric watsup I'm actually a big dude. I'm 6'4 and have sat in one before and it was comfortable for me
friedric watsup yeah it sounds like you need to move the seat back more. This is always something that happens the more bolstering you have. But I would rather have it BECAUSERACECAR
What if it's raining do u think it can shoot water into the intake
Step 1. Dont pick red on blue.
I like that thing, looks sweet sitting behind the grill too!
Is it me or did the filter change color from red to white ? Sounds lovely at the end great mod 👍🏻
Liam Fitzpatrick good eye 👍
Blake was there a reason Chris went back to the stock filter??
Liam Fitzpatrick I did that for the next video on his car.
Thank you 👍🏻keep up the great work love every video especially as I hope one day to own a RS and some of the mods you have covered are great and you go into great detail . Witch helps novice moders like myself 😄

Just trying to make people aware.

the RS is a beauty
Thanks for the great video! Just to add: DMB Graphics out of the UK (they ship to US pretty fast) sell a gel decal to fill in the RS indention on the intake cover, it's great to match the Velossa block off plate!
Thanks! I actually found the scoop through Kris' build, and your install video sold me on the ease of the job. Can't wait for my scoop to arrive!
I'd pull that thing out over the front of that bulk bumper bar. You'll get a lot more affect and feel it. That seal for the air box is to keep heat out and so the snorkel actually has a chance to suck sone air instead of from the airbox and hot engine air.
That looks dope through the grille!

does the big mouth intake help at slower speeds than 60 miles and hour or is it only above 60 mph thank you
-Does it reduce a lot of intake noise from capping the top of the intake box? I know it's good getting cooler air but I also love the ''N/A type'' intake sound that the RS makes vs others turbo car.

Thanks keep up the good vids!
Is it possible to just remove the shroud instead of cutting it? And if I do remove it, will there be any negative side effects?
I have the same doubt, I prefer to remove instead cut, but idk what is going to happen
I would think the plug in the existing airbox would be detrimental at speeds below 60 right? For dding, stop and go traffic, wouldn't it basically make the engine breathe worse ?
AOS AIRSOFT not at all you're actually sucking in fresh air from the outside instead of from the engine bay.
Blake's Garage oooooohhhh, I was thinking of it as a passive thing like a rad, I forgot it is actually sucking air, thanks !
AOS AIRSOFT thought the same
I’m not convinced that these snorkels are actually worthwhile. “Ram air” effect has got to be nil and the stock air box already pulls outside air from the top of the radiator frame which is a high air pressure area. I’m thinking the extra restriction may really give you higher delta P.
Man I wish I could buy such great bolt on go fast bits for my Alfa!!
Where’d you get the seal? I can’t find it anywhere. Thank you in advance
Yeesssss coffeeee time 😍
I'm not even into Fords but I enjoy this content and seeing the work you do on the RS!! Some good stuff, bro! I dig it!! Have a good day!!
Well what if it rains will it suck the water in just curious
Risky
Looks like a great way to hydrolock your engine. Good luck with that warranty.
ROFLMFAO
OMG, that plate! Love it
Sounds so good. Another great video man.
Does that make the car louder vs. stock at idle & under acceleration?
Any numbers improvement?
Would something like this be effective on a Wrx? I ask because the existing air box (at least on my 09) is already shaped similarly
They do not specifically make a difference snorkel for the WRX. I told him there may be a good market for it but they put a lot of engineering into designing this piece to actually work not just a gimmick. So maybe in the future then we could do something but they would have to have someone close by that they could work on a concept model.
Nice idea.. do you have one for my Mustang 2014? Thank´s
why did you replace the reusable filter for a throw away one?
Houseoffinch for an upcoming video.
Does it suck in water while driving in heavy rain?
where did you get the intake box block off plate i can't seem to find that on their site?
Just had a question, what the hell is the intercooler block off plate for? Can I really take it off of mine?
Mine fell off :/
Does the kit come with the airbox seal? I can't find it on their website?
Where you find the tech Shield?
Hey for the cap/seal how do you get that ? Does it just come in the RS kit?
I thought about getting one for my RS but damn that's a lot of tear down for something that's really just a "look." Not sure you'd actually feel any gains from it.
So you changed the filter as well. A higher flow one I suppose?
Great vid. Thanks. Will this fit after an oil cooler is mounted? Will one intrude on the other?
Sean Dyer No, it will not fit with an Oil cooler. Unless you will cooler is very small and you can mount it lower.
THE CHINGADERA! Every tool box should have one.
*snaps in circular motions*
badams0311 a definite must have.
Hello ! Where did you get holes cap (red one) on arbor upper cover ? I have the same air box cover and thinking how to dismiss that hexagon holes :)
Does the RS Big Mouth fit an ST? For some reason, the RS version is cheaper. Cheers
How safe is it on rainy or snowy days??
do you know where can i buy that air box seal? i need it!
can i install this snorkel after cobb stage 1 tune installed? asking because cobb webside says " installing other hardware different than the air filter , wih cause the car runs poorly. so cam i install this?
Why did you switch out the k&n filter with the stock air filter
Totally off topic but where did the roof rack come from? And is it sunroof friendly?
Wow nobody commented on this. I wanna know too 😂
That little bit of red makes it look so aggressive👍🏽
Brijido Cartagena I wasn't sure at first when I saw it but it looks good 👌
can i use the big mouth if i already have a cold air intake K&N ?
It looks sweet. But im 98% positive it doesnt do shit do to the way air was already fed to the box. That rubber gasket pushes against the bottom of the hood, so it ALREADY only pulls from the front. You just moved its inlet like.... 6 inches forward. Also.... wtf dude. Red? Its a blue car, get blue or black. Red doesnt go with blue even a little.
That seems like a lot of work for something that's probably not going to make a huge difference. The rs is a beautiful looking car though
Especially seeing the gaps in the loose rubber parts that connects the front "mouth" to the airbox inlet. But it looks cool.
Ugh. Wish I could be wearing short sleeves rn. Looks rad!
IgnitionTube it's all sorts of nice out here. I'm using my A/C in the E30
Looks nice but surely with the sealed air box plus a vent now on the front of the car allowing direct access for rain to come straight in and flood your air box this would be bad? Just a thought, anyone running one of these and having problems with water on filter?
Blake, great videos as usual, any transmission leakage with the RS?
Good way to start the day! This would be my perfect daily if I could only have one car. Unless I could get my hands on an RS6 wagon that is :P
GoodToMyself I love Audi wagons..... Actually I love most bad ass wagons.
Geez that's alot just to take off the bumper.. Awesome video, entertaining even without owning a ford
What a PITA!!!!!!!!! Same process for ST too.
the K&N filter, where did it go?
What happened to your air filter element?
Would this void warranty?
Worth getting a Focus RS for daily driver mod car? Or WRX STI?
Jerry Ramirez if you're going to Mod it and don't want to dump 10K on a engine build in the first 20K get the Focus RS much better car and more Mod friendly than the EJ plus way more power and handling for less 💵💵
How long would you say this would take your average Joe to do on their first attempt?
An hour and 15 minutes. Everything takes average 3x to 10x the time of the video :D.
Are you down to do this on a Fiesta ST? Would do it myself but taking off the bumper genuinely scares the shit out of me.
godfatherscar essentially it would be the same thing. It's not the funnest task ever however it is very manageable.
I know how it should be fairly simple, just to me taking off a clean nice painted bumper just gives me chills. My last vehicle had shit for paint left so I could tear it apart and not give a damn, and metal can't be damaged as easily as body can XD Not used to doing body work on a practically brand-new car.
what kind of Powa can one expect to gain from this mod? Looks and sounds sick bro. Nice job!
Like i said previously, Black on Black please. LOL!
What about the screws underneath
Do you think this will fir 2013 volvo s60 T5?
Why would it?
@@BlakesGarage same engine setup.
Fulmetalalchemist well maybe then IDK not worth it I can tell you that.
@@BlakesGarage lol.. so you do not see any change in hp?
Fulmetalalchemist it’s like +2
i keep thinking about doing this but let's be realistic, it's a cosmetic modification this provides no discernible gain.
what roof rack is that??
i'd love to play with an RS
are you close to socal i would pay you to install allthe stuff i bought
A Gray I live in Sacramento
6 hour drive to have you install parts would be totally worth it!
Hmm you shouldn't remove the inter cooler blanking plate. It's there so it's not to cool and does condensation....
+TheMidnightNarwhal not an issue with our climate.
Does the car need a re-tune with this mod?
JJM no, it's not a Subaru
@@BlakesGarage even though it introducing more air flow?
We can give you good discounts on the velossa tech :)
AWDMods email me at blakesgaragemedia@gmail.com
Stock intake broader powerband.
is it possible to fit it with the bumper on
jack black no, if it were I would have done that. Install is definitely time consuming.
Would you say its worth it for the price
thanks for the reply. It's just on the focus st mk3 you can take off the front grill off. Would you say it's still not possible to do it without taking the bumper off.
Matching shirt ftw
Thanks for the video! It made me indefinitely postpone any plans to actually ever install this thing… 😒

U also need de silicon hoose
Although it looks ace and it’s a great video I wouldn’t be doing it because I could not be arsed to take all that off for something that doesn’t make that much difference 😎
Would it work on the 2018 Focus SEL?
I’ll bet $$$ it’ll fit on an SE hatchback
Would this fit a titanium Foci?
How is it that this guy is a spitting image of Isaac Buterfield?
Am I the only one who noticed his plate reference to sublime?

Jeesh, that's a complicated bumper removal.
WrxNate yes....yes it is. Lots of screws and clips.

Way too much work for 10 hp.
No shipping to germany. Shame on velossa...
You missed so many steps it’s not even funny. Had like 10 more screws and bolts under the car to take off before the bumper.
Boo hoo 😢
awful big pain in the dick for..... probably no decent gains, and a subjectivly attractive look. and..... red? on an ALL blue car? hmmmm....

What a turd car to work on. Not a very clever design, when you have to remove items and bolts, than most cars have in total.
Can you get 500 bhp out of the Ford focus rs
