I believe there was some sort of bug on the consumption calculation that showed 3.7mi/kWh - The test itself was accurate but the consumption figure doesn't add up. We'll look into it, sounds like a known bug.
When you reset the trip 1 & 2 meter, it sometimes does not reset the mi/kWh figure but will always reset the mileage, as you can see at 4:47 in your video - it reset to 0 mile but remained at 3.7mi/kWh. You gotta tap the reset button a few times until the mi/kWh also resets. Interestingly, the "this trip" which is reset by itself on every start of the car, sometimes forgets to reset the miles but the mi/kWh will always reset.
I'm a new MachE owner. One month, 700mi on a 4x. I've kept spreadsheets on my use so far. The sych4 trip Mi/kWh are always much higher than my actual Mi/kWh. However, I'm getting 300 mi range ACTUAL and can't complain. But if I calculate range from the Synch4 trip system, I'd be getting 360+. The synch4 system Mi/kWh numbers are inflated.
Why not record kWh to back to 100%? Granted that is going to add hours to the test but best way, without some sort of doggie/app, to confirm 88 kWh useable and car-reported 3.7 mi/kWh. Based on 287 miles and 88 kWh useable, more like 3.26 mi/kWh. Still not bad for such a heavy car with A/C on doing 70 mph.
I have zero faith in that screen. Today it showed me driving 47.7 miles for a duration of 43m 13sec... The actual mileage was 18.4 so I would not trust the kWH measurement either.
Thank you Kyle, nice test. I have the MM-e X AWD premium, now with about 6000 miles on the ODO. I've never taken it below 20% SOC, even on trips. Thanks for showing us what happens when you get down to 0.
On a 500 mile one way road trip with four people and luggage we average an impressive 190-200 miles per full charge, on the interstate. (RWD standard battery premium)

Never had this happened to me yet and I live in farm land trucks all around. I sold my truck and picked up this model because I got sick paying 200 dollars a week in gas. I drive 68 miles to and back from work. I thought I would never get an EV just yet but I wont lie this car is fun and so smooth to drive. Few days ago. I would have waited for the ford lightning, but from what I was hearing from the dealer with these crazy markups they are doing would be around 80-100k. Anyway Mach-e is comfortable and fun to drive.

That's because Ford are only making a handful... I was really interested to get it, but decided to go Ioniq 5 instead (more boot space and way faster charger, which is plentiful in my area). Also, the version I wanted was a lot more expensive. But it would be great to see Ford really push ahead and scale up production. Maybe they could just ditch an ICE model and use the factory to produce more Mach-e...
They're rebuilding the 80/76 interchange near Big Spring. I haven't seen them do a full closure during the day, but they often have traffic shifted to the wrong side or a temporary right-of-way that confuses GPSes.
The only issue I see with this video, from being a Mach-E CA Rt 1 owner myself, is that you didn't reset usage data. Not trip data, entire car driving data. I took ownership with 250~ miles. And the MPGe was horrendous. At 600 miles I reset the stats and I am getting around 325~340 on a full charge.
CA RT 1 owner as well. The first thing I did was reset the driving stats. When I first got the car the GOM was at 270. At around 500 miles I saw the GOM at 300. Now at 1000 miles I've been getting 330-350 consistently. This is on a near 50/50 city/highway driving.
Kyle quite impressive,287.4 miles rated 300 by the EPA at 70 mph with A/C on with 100 outside nothing to sneeze at for sure, I am considering a Mach E this model almost to a T and i highway drive to work everyday about 60 miles return and never drive over 55/60 mph thats here in Canada so i am guessing i should easily get the 300 mile rated range, problem in Canada is the charging infrastructure bites when you want to travel long distances it will list the charging station and lots of time no info on the size of charger and we are 10 yrs behind the USA on building the network of chargers across the country, we have lots of work to do and the Gov't has really nothing in place as any incentive to convert to EV in the way of rebates as does the US, anything long distance i usually fly anyway , I would rather drive myself to be honest as i have done for almost 30 yrs, great video BTW and the long range battery i have to save for that extra down payment to keep the monthly affordable 👍
Just a heads-up since you're in Canada: the California Route 1 is the only trim without heated seats. Select has the option for heated seats and Premium has heated seats & steering wheel standard

Headlights are minimal draw on the power, especially if they're LED's like most other EV's. As for the glass roof, in my Model Y which also has one, I didn't notice a significant increase in heat in there when I was driving through Arizona and Utah in the middle of the day with around 90F temps a week ago.
I have a couple curiosity questions about charging EVs: 1. I have seen quite a few reviews where a driver will only charge a short while during a charging session based on their routing/planning software. This makes no sense to me. If I'm at a perfectly good fast charger and vehicle is taking a good charge, wouldn't it make more sense to take the car to 80% on every stop? Wouldn't that ultimately be more efficient? Why risk the next charger being out of order or waste additional time finding the next charger? 2. Since most EVs have a buffer already built into the batteries, will it really make a material difference in the battery longevity if I charge to 100% every night at home? Thanks. Tom's going to do the 70-mph range test on a 2021 Long Range Model S - not Plaid, in mid-September. We're doing the long range instead of the Plaid because it's the longest-range version of the Model S. We'll most likely do a Plaid at some point in the future also.

Why have a panoramic roof with no sunshade? That's absurd in such a hot climate. Added A/C would put a heavy drain on the battery and therefore range. It seems counter-intuitive.
You are the only EV reviewer I have ever seen that actually sets the car into lower consumption mode when testing for range, in this case setting it to "whisper" mode. For example every single range test I've seen on Tesla vehicles leave the car in "sport" mode rather than switching to "chill" mode to use less power. Good of you to do that, that should be a standard thing anyone does when range is the primary concern.

In my measly $25k Mazda3, when backing out of a parking space sandwiched between 2 large SUVs in a busy parking lot, the cross-traffic alert system has saved me from at least two fender benders (and even more middle fingers). I know Tesla could do this technology blindfolded if they wanted to. This, plus Elon’s stubborn aversion to heads up display, are my two biggest pet peeves about Tesla. To be clear, I’m a HUGE Tesla fan. I have an older Model S that I bought used (best car I’ve ever owned) and fully intend on buying a new Tesla someday. Side note: Since this is a Mach-E post, I’ll say the Mach-E is the car my wife wants as her next car, even after test driving the Model Y. The tiny rear window of the Model Y was a dealbreaker for her. I explained the cameras, etc. but, for her, there’s no substitute for looking over the shoulder. The Mach-E is better in that regard.
Plug N Charge "working".... Ya it works if you want to pay the non subscriber amount. Its absurd that the charger won't see a Plug N Charge and give us the discounted price.
All EV's do the same thing to protect the battery. For roadtrips you can have 100% when you drive from home but after that fir superchargers charge up to 80% and move on. Example. Charge over night at home to 100% 270 miles of range and supercharger 15 minutes will give you 100 miles of range or for example 40 minutes to 80%.
Don't think in terms of a gas vehicle where you wait till its empty to refill. Charge like you do your phone...keep it at an optimal charge for your needs
Kyle, hoping you stay independent. InsideEV, I believe was bought recently by the Automotive News out of Detroit and so they’ll force you to slant all your videos to be positive for Ford and GM!
Good review and it's great to know the range of MME at highway speeds. The only problem for me is that in Missouri, I can't even locate one MME to test drive and the VW ID.4 choices are few to none. I would consider at least a test drive of either of these, but the lack of supply in my area tells me that Ford & VW are not serious, or at least not in the midwest, for sales. I also have to note that while you and Tom may have a lot of praises for both of these cars, you both are driving a Tesla. There are two Tesla dealers in Missouri.

I did see that one of the dealers in Columbia, MO near me had 3 of ID.4s a few weeks back and they are down to one now. The Mach-e has been hard to find this year. I did notice that across the river from St. Louis in Illinois, a dealer had 2 for sale. The only issue was that both were 230 mile range and I would want the 300 range.
@@twany442 I won't argue that it is a popular car. My problem is that availability and sales are taking place in a handful of states. I would like to test drive one and compare it to the Model Y and ID.4. Hard to do this if there are none in your area!
70MPH is not interesting, I've never been driving that slow in California. It should be tested at 80MPH, at least that's what everybody would be interested in driving on I-5.

Interesting that the Route 1 model uses smaller wheels and taller tires. Not sure if having the 19's would've decreased the range.
That's pretty consistent drop in range across EVs that have smaller vs bigger wheel sizes.

FYI: We now always test every EV we do range tests on in the most economical mode that still allows us to use the heating and cooling.

Tesla doesn't have a lot of basic features, they even removed radar lately.
They use the side cameras in addition to the backup camera, but no beeps or alerts for cross traffic, for now at least.

I did see that one of the dealers in Columbia, MO near me had 3 of ID.4s a few weeks back and they are down to one now. The Mach-e has been hard to find this year. I did notice that across the river from St. Louis in Illinois, a dealer had 2 for sale. The only issue was that both were 230 mile range and I would want the 300 range.

@@twany442 I won't argue that it is a popular car. My problem is that availability and sales are taking place in a handful of states. I would like to test drive one and compare it to the Model Y and ID.4. Hard to do this if there are none in your area!

70MPH is not interesting, I've never been driving that slow in California. It should be tested at 80MPH, at least that's what everybody would be interested in driving on I-5.
Good test but not for real life. Imagine you in this car with your partner and two children and the luggages for one week vacation. THAT you should test!

300 miles EPA range is for mixed driving, highway is always lower for all cars, sometimes a lot lower. MME actually did exceptionally well here.

You should never drive BELOW the speed limit because almost nobody does that! Except those from GA!
