@@michaelderenne9838 Yup as long as you have the triangle links I do. I double them for many of the major lifts (not in this video as this was about an hour of shooting just band b-roll, not counting the dumbbells I also made clips for which is more than my standard workouts in total.
Question. I am looking at the full sized platform by the same company (it’s longer). Do you think it’ll be too wide for the bands? It’s 43” instead of 28. Thanks!
Watched this 3 times now. Have been fixated on resistance bands because of you !! I had the cove because I trained in a public gym. This setup is a really budget friendly alternative. Thanks man!!
@@GamerBody Yo. My bands just arrived today with your setup minus the platform. They're not Undersun cause unfortunately they're not available in our country yet. Shipping would probably cost more than the actual bands if I got them from Amazon so I got mine locally. Do you always do full body on your training regime? I am 100% okay now. Do not want to get the cove again. 😂
I used to use the exact same bar and triangle hooks you do. I also used a 4-inch step stool I got from Amazon. I had been waiting for someone to come out with a bar similar to the X3 with its hooks that hold the bands without having to screw them closed. Fortunately, there are those kinds of options out there now, plus they come in two- and three sections so they travel well. I made my own footplate from a cutting board and a couple of 4x4s. I looked at the stepper you are using but could not determine if it had a groove underneath to accommodate the bands. I''ve been using bands for about 4 years and they give me a great workout. Keep up the good work. Enjoyed your video
I watched this video a while ago and bought the bands, I already had the bar. Tried the set up this week with the step platform and that was SO much better than using your feet.
It’s funny now to see you using these because I bought the same set-up during COVID lockdown on your recommendation. I haven’t set foot in the gym since.
@@GamerBody good! I’m not ripped like you but I’m not totally sagging now and I lost 15 pounds by cutting out crap snacks. The stuff you recommended seems like it will hold up.
Nice! Keep up the good work and regardless of the equipment, just make sure you provide enough stimulus for each exercise, recover and rebuild. Losing weight is all calorie deficit so that is all you will need for that.
Yeah this one is awesome. I recently got the GEKU board as well as it is under $100, but I still think The Step is my favorite as of right now. Still testing the 2, but The Step has held up very well and gives a bit more pre-stretch. Here is a video comparing with the GEKU board: ua-cam.com/video/-2UqMpueQG4/v-deo.html
This is brilliant. I have those exact same bands and noticed same thing as you (lot of pressure in palms). I'm going to try this combo (bar + base). thanks a lot for the detailed video
This guy's videos are great. I use the link and bought the same setup but have spri bands been using it for a little over a month. It actually works great and I'm seeing results
I don't have the X3 at this time but seems like it is the same concept. The platform is larger to stand on and gives a bit more pre-stretch, and the bar is a bit longer, but you do lose portability if you want to use it traveling.
Great review mate. Very well presented! I tend to use bands along with the usual gym equipment. They can be extremely versatile, (and can almost replace a training partner in some kung fu exercises), and watching your video has added yet another dimension to using bands. Well done! 🙂
how do you do exercises like the one shown at 1:31 using a bar and step platform? it's impossible. I've also noticed it doesn't feel good on the wrists when I do it. My fingers hurt a bit as well. When can I do?
Do you mean a chest press? I don't do that with the platform and bar. I either just use the bar and put the bands around my back, OR I use the J hook handles and lay on the platform. The bar makes it tough to get into if you also have the platform. Check it out in this video? ua-cam.com/video/TVuCtIQNNj8/v-deo.htmlsi=XnPYY5dpDkGEe00q&t=275
You can get triangle carabiner locks so you don't have to screw the quick links every time you change bands. There are a million different bars to choose from. My personal favorite is the Bodylastics EZ bar. It feels more heavy duty than other bars and has very nice EZ bar syle grips.
I returned the EZ curl bar almost immediately. IMO it is way worse than the INNSTAR with weird rubbery grips and way too heavy. It does come as an EZ curl bar though if you prefer that.
I appreciate all the ideas you share. I followed your lead and have the same set-up and I'm enjoying it. With the squats, I tend to do Zercher squats with the bar over front squats as it keeps me from doing a home gym fail. Thanks again for your ideas.
Over my life I'm 61in good health ,always done some type of training ie power lifting ,body building, then a few years calisthenics, some judo Greco Roman etc,but those were when I was quite a bit younger.Recently I've been using machines in the gym started getting shoulder pain wrist aching etc.As I've got older past Twenty years I've adapted my workouts,so now I've started band workouts using in the outdoor calisthenic parks, great pump I'm really happy. There is the argument does it build muscle as well as weights, probably not,but it does build muscle, for me it's a great pump, and next day after workout I do feel it
It's the same as using dumbbells/free weights. Use a stronger band, or add multiple bands together. For tracking, I just go up in increments of 10. Take a look at this video on how I track with them: ua-cam.com/video/Wb91Bia2ShU/v-deo.html
@@GamerBody thanks! I am thinking of buying this set (20, 30, 40, 50, 60 lb) because I can reach any increment of 10 from 20-200 besides 190. Could you please go over a video on how to properly deadlift without the extra block beneath! Thanks 🙏
Similar setup as yours, but I use the Bodylastics Curl Bar. It took a bit to get used to, but it's an awesome alternative and it collapses if you want to travel (it's 5lbs though.) I got the same platform as you and unfortunately, if I use the heavier bands, it starts cutting into the bands (one of them started to fray when I do deadlifts 😔) but if you combine them with other bands instead of double folding one band, it solves the fraying issue. It's still an awesome setup though.
Interesting that yours starts to fray if you double the bands. Mine hasn't yet after a lot of testing. How long is the bar? I wonder if it is shorter and that leads to the bands rounding more on the edges of the platform and reach that line that runs near the base of it causing the fray. Interesting that single looping the bands doesn't have this same issue though. Did you buy a second set of bands to use them?
A good relatively lower-cost substitute for the Jaquish X3 system. The bands look good, the bar looks okay. Still prefer the X3. Maybe because I've already paid for it.
@@GamerBody That's certainly a legit preference. Jaquish's defense of his system is #1, He's got huge guys (Pro Football, Basketball players) using his bar. But, mainly, his claim is that #2, The wider bar just shortens your lift; you're getting a longer pull/push with the shorter bar. But I agree that it feels a bit tight. I've had no strains, impingement, or injuries since I started using it, so works for me, & I'm 6'2". But I get it. Your setup looks great and a lot more solid than any of the other alternatives to the X3 I've seen. The bands look solid, the bar & carabiners likewise, the step base a great idea. If I hadn't already invested in the X3, your solution might have been the one I'd have gone for.
Great video! Perhaps you should try a bar and maybe a custom size plare in the way the man on the Buff Bandit makes and uses his. You. Ould at the least probably make travel size equipment that way. I am sure they are quieter than what you are using as well.
I love it when the speaker is explaining why he uses the platform and the bar--and the camera is so close to the speaker that you can't see the platform. Real good camera work.
I see the same bar manufacturer makes one that breaks down into two sections. seeing your statement on travel, would you prefer the one that breaks into 2 sides?
@@GamerBody This second one is the one I saw on Amazon which prompted the comment. Thanks! ... now all you need is a folding step up for this training on the go. 🙂
Thanks for the review. Awesome details as always. I was wondering if you had a choice between this setup and adjustable dumbbells, which would you choose?
If money was no object, I think I'd have to go with dumbbells. I still don't have enough time with bands as a whole to know if I'd like them years later, but it has been a good start. Dumbbells are just so easy to use and do just about anything you need outside of overhead pull exercises.
Great video! Are the links sold individually or sold in pairs? Do you find the platform cuts into the bands when you place them underneath it? Thanks dude!!
I have to buy 2 links (come individually). The platform doesn't cut into the bar, but over time there is still some friction that will wear it out no matter what. I think it will last year's regardless but I'll make an update if anything changes.
You will have to watch out though as they can be seen as weapons (if you keep them in your carry on). My RB handles got reviewed because of that, so a bar might be scrutinized even more. When I travel, the handles are really all I need until I get back.
Have you had problems with the bands being damaged or cut by the edges of the platform? Or are the edges smooth enough to not cause any damage to the bands? And, do you still use the sunpow resistance bands or you completely moved to the undersun?
For me, no damage to the bands as they don't reach any of the rough edges. I do use the UnderSun but have been testing both recently just to see the difference. Both are similar so Ill keep testing and see if anything changes.
Quick question...I was wondering about the carabiners that you are using, I was reading the product description on Amazon and it says they are Not for overhead lifting. Have you found any so far that would be ok for overhead lifting or are the specs on your originals at a weight capacity that we wouldn't reach breaking or failure points anyway?
I think it can withstand over 2000 lbs based on this article: stainlesssteelmarine.com/product/stainless-steel-delta-quick-link-316-marine-grade/ Might want to check with the company to be sure though. I've had no issues with it, even adding multiple bands together with overhead press.
I wish I caught your Undersun review before I purchased the TRX Bandit package. I ended up buying the Undersun bundle as well, but I don't know what to make of the TRX bands just yet
I tried regular but the shape and clasp make them almost impossible to use. I like these triangle ones as they can withstand and incredible amount of force/tension
Yeah I looked up these before, but the handles don't look big enough for the larger bands. It should be fine with the smaller ones as long as the loop band can go through the slit.
@@GamerBody They don’t fit the bigger bands but the serious steel bands work perfectly and have enough weight for most exercises. You can also maneuver the bands in such a way to make the exercises more challenging.
Great video, I've been looking into using resistance bands as a convenient way to work out at home. I don't have the space or money to get a good multi gym and all the weights needed I know you say they arent the optimal for building muscle, but I'm mainly looking to just tone up a little, would you recommend these as a good compromise between gym/home gym and doing nothing ?
They can build muscle, just not the most optimal option. You could even say that about my free weight setup as they are not optimal either. It definitely can work, you just need to make sure you are reaching failure in the set you do to activate all of the muscle fibers since the largest of the fibers will be recruited last (when you elicit max effort under fatigue).
@@GamerBody Thanks for that, in time I'm hoping to be able to get a better set up at home but don't want to do nothing for the months or years that takes to come about!
2-3 times per week. I am working on a shortened (3 times per week) in order to push harder but get some better recovery time in there for some body parts.
Thanks for posting this. You demonstrated getting into the squat position quite well. that is where I am having issues but I am just continuing to practice so it should get easier as time passes.
Do you find that wraparound press to be worthwhile at all? All I can think when I do them is “why am I doing an easier standing band pushup?” Same goes with the banded most muscular.
I find it much better, especially with the ability to adduct (bring hands together) at the contracted position. I hate banded push-ups as I find them extremely uncomfortable, but that's just me.
I agree with that. I like the fact that as soon as you reach failure with the bands you can let go and get a few more reps in straight away. But I do use the chest press but kneeling.
It may be more comfortable and feel better to use. I like a shorter bar (currently moved to the GEKU bar) and because the anchor points for the band are closer to your hands, it feels better - at least to me. My old setup is still great, but the GEKU has been an improvement for me.
I'm going to say no as it is really hard to setup and get into position. Is it possible, probably, but not a fun exercise to setup. That is why I do front squats.
As for the bands' strength curve, is the problem that the point of most resistance is at the top of the movement where for weights this usually provides the least resistance? In that case, where should the most resistance be? in the middle of the movement? If so, would using a tougher band but going through a shorter range of motion (not going all the way to the top) help? I've also seen bands combined with weights to cover each other's weaknesses.
The main issue is where myosin and actin overlap (kind of a big topic) but in short, you want to best and most even overlap as that is where you are strongest. Bands are great at the starting point as it allows you to get past the initial sticking points free weights create, but when fully contracted, the most force is placed when the actin and myosin are bunched up. Note, I am taking this based off of how Jay Vincent describes it. That bunching creates a weaker point vs the strongest where they lay perfectly together. For example, I biceps curl should start light, go to peak resistance just above parallel to the ground, and then drop resistance at the top range of motion. I hope that help, but also a good video topic ;)
@@briand5047 The nice feature about bands is that you can modulate the resistance, sometimes on the fly. But I agree, there should always be resistance.
Yeah most people do not train hard enough regardless so that is key. I'd say that is the main concern and then look for optimal equipment if they want to go beyond a "good" body.
Band hasn't split yet and I've used it quite a bit (that and trading off with dumbbells). I won't be using medicine balls as I have no use for them in my programming at home. Not needed for results. If I not them it would be more of a "fun" type of thing. I can use my dumbbells for any weighted items a medicine ball would use.
I used to use the Crossropes but I haven't done jump roping in a long time. Not something I really feel is necessary. If you enjoy it though, go for it. Are you looking for any in particular?
I use a sliding bench trainer (total gym type of machine but way cheaper) and bands together, I find using them both is pretty fun.. can’t really travel with it but I have kind of came to the conclusion that I have my bands which I’m happy with Would like to see your review on the total gyms/sliding bench trainers, I think the price of the total gym is horrendous so I wouldn’t expect you to buy one but maybe a cheaper option?
I've been watching your videos all the afternoon and loved them. The only exercise that's bothering me on how awkward it looks are squats. I've been wondering if the use of a dipping belt could potentially be used to do some sort of belt squats as the range of motion should be similar to Romanian deadlift. I also have been thinking about doing hack squats (barbell version) it would be great if you tested these as you already have the setup. Thanks a lot for the great content!
I have to agree that Squats are the worst exercise of the bunch. I'm actually looking to use my handles by my sides instead and just squat down similar to how I do my dumbbell squats. Also help prevent so much stress on the lower back.
Anyone know if the M12 1/2 316 Stainless Steel Delta Quick Link fit this bar? I'm trying to use the x3 Elite band and need the triangle to be bigger than the M10 3/8. Thanks for any input Kurt
Hi I've been looking into using resistance bands for working out versus using free weights, partly because I don't like gyms (social anxiety as a total beginner)and I just don't have the space at home for free weights. So I was wondering is it possible to genuinely transform your body with just resistance bands?
Yes as long as you create a great enough stimulus for the muscles to adapt, then provide protein/nutrients and recovery. It still takes a long time. Also, you can use adjustable dumbbells and a doorway pullup bar to get just about everything you need if you want to go in that direction.
Not comfortable/easily. I do them either front squat, or with the J handles instead. Over the back is way to hard to get into properly and is a nuisance to get out of as well.
Curious if you've ever tried the X Bar system? Not X3 just xbar. I am seriously considering giving it a try. Thanks for the awesome informative video. I'm subscribing.
I have not, but I have read the book by the creator of the X3 system. They also used to have their program for free on the website, but now you have to buy the X3 to see it. It is fine, just expensive. The bar, IMO, is also a bit short. I also use the step platform in my video with dumbbell exercises making it a bit more versatile for my needs.
@@scottgreif8144 Oh, no I have not but I was looking at it while comparing it to the Bodylastics bar. I may review it in the future and see if it is better than the Bodylastics version.
Nice video. I just wondered if you had considered the EZToned bar/system. Comparing the price for me in the UK all of the equipment you suggest totals £174, whereas the EZToned setup is £146. I don't own any resistance bands so I'm looking for my first set to take me from dad bod to something that isn't embarrassing. Have you come across it? Ads on UA-cam were pushing it while I searched, thought you may have some insight. Cheers!
Ah yes I've seen this. I personally don't car for the carabineer-style bands, but they will still work. I use loop bands instead. Their version may be better than standard tube bands though. I've never tried it, but should still be fine as long as they provide enough resistance for you.
No idea as I have not tried it. It is very similar though, but this one does get a bit more pre-stretch in the band on the platform and has a longer bar. I could see the potential to travel with the X3 being easier.
First thing I wonder is did you consider heavy duty caribiners instead of the triangle clips? And then my second question is, if so, is there a reason you went the triangle clips instead? Edit: also great video 👍
I did try carabiners but they do not play well with the loop bands, especially the larger ones. With the triangle, the loop bands lay flat and are easy to remove. With the carabiners, the bunch up and become a pain to try take out and switch for other bands. The triangles can also support an insane amount of resistance. I'll never break one of these.
You can work all those weak areas with bands the same if not better than weights. You just got to learn how to do it. I hit all the weak spots or parts that i struggle with before doing my strong sets. Works better than any weight i have tried. Good luck.
"It should be noted that scientific studies in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research have found that there’s no significant difference in muscle recruitment when it comes to resistance band training vs traditional weight training, and that both offer similar benefits for muscle growth and building strength." "Your muscles don't care what tension is put on them. Whether your pulling on a band or pushing a car or lifting a weight , your muscles senses it as tension .And tension in general produces growth"
I would, but YT will probably block it. Just search "Goku Anatomy chart" on Redbubble or Google and it should come up. I then bought a large poster from there.
I love it when the speaker says he will need resistance bands, so the camera, which is already cutting off part of the bands, moves closer to the bands. Real intelligent; i the camera hadn't done that, I might have looked at the ceiling.
Nice. While that is good, my main issue is getting into position without bending my body in half. That is where the UnderSun work well because, for me, they have just enough give to allow me to get into position. It is one reason I picked them over UnderSun as those also have more resistance, but exercises such as squats are a lot harder to get into as the bands are a little tighter.
@@GamerBody true maybe just get the heaviest one for things like deadlift and chest press if you need more other than the heaviest band it and the undersun have the same resistance and also I appreciate the content keep it up this made me get the innstar bar and a set of bands because it’s cheaper than a whole home gym and it’s easy for me to use and store with pretty much the same results
Yes. I'll be making one for this weekend (upper/lower split) with this setup. Can do squats, romanian deadlifts, split squat, calf raise as the main exercises with it.
I have random questions about leg workout. Have you done leg extension/leg curl at the gym or home? I want to add both workouts for my fitness routine, but I've heard that leg curl and especially leg extension can potentially hurt your knees. (For some reason, Leg extension apparently has a lot of bad reputations in the fitness community. So I wanted to ask you about your opinion on those leg workouts and also ask if you will ever want to try them in the future. Please let me know!
I don't do them at home. However, as long as you stay in control and don't try throwing around heavy resistance as fast as possible it will be fine. Your body can handle a good amount of resistance (especially after years of training) but most people try to move really heavy weight way too fast raising risk of injury drastically.
Great workout equipment kind of reminds of the gorilla bow I use which the gorilla bow has 2 versions you can detached it for traveling and put it away verses not being able to put the bar away but this looks just as good 👌 and seems to have great resistance for the right amount of tension you need to work the muscles 💪😎great set up
This is a clever idea. And it addresses many issues that you may encounter with resistance bands. Because I have an adjustable kettlebell and adjustable dumbbells, I could throw this in here and be good to go
Nice, I actually just made a video on why you only need 50 lbs adjustable dumbbells as well. Also, I am testing J handles with resistance bands in the coming month to make a video on to see how they work with traveling. If you use resistance bands regularly, I really like the bar and platform setup show in this video.
Thanks for your videos. There is a 43" version of the Step. In some ways the extra width would seem like it would make it more comfortable and versatile, but I'm wondering if it won't work as well with the 38" bar. (Bands angled out instead of in.) What do you think of this as an option? Better or too big?
The bar is the width it is for you to change the position of your hands each set, if you do so you will isolate different smaller sections of the muscle that you are working. When you rip and tear in only one place you limit overall muscle growth to the same section of that muscle. When you use the bar only you neglect strengthening the weaker side of your body. It is necessary to remove the bar from time to time to strengthen your weaker side. It's basically the same thing that happened when there is no bar and your using free weights. However it's much safer to work with the resistance band when no spotter is available. Sincerely, Ex Gym Rat
The amount of "isolation" for hand grip difference is so small (if any) it isn't worth it. If you want variety, then sure, change up the hands. Now other muscle groups might come into play more with different hand positions, but changing the results of the same muscle group, if training hard enough, won't matter as they should all be recruited and fatigued accordingly. An example is a chest press width vs. close grip as the chest press is most chest dominant, where the close grip is more triceps dominant.
@@GamerBody Ha yes, sorry to be so vague. But since you mentioned that you can't do Sumo squats on the 28 inch platform. I did find several wider platforms on Amazon. Also, I found the Innstar bar on Amazon in the detachable 2 piece configuration, as you mentioned at the video's conclusion.
@@countdebleauchamp Yeah I have the detachable bar. It is pretty much the same thing, but you can unscrew it and make it half as long if you need to put it in a bag for traveling. Let me know if you get a wider platform and if you find it any better. Might get some additional stretch in the bands.
How much maximum restitance can you create? For instance for front squat and chest press? Description in Amazon said the thickest band went up to 54 kg. So squatting you will have 54 kg pressure when standing up? What's the resistance if you add all the bands?
It's variable and I haven't tested with any tools to see what it relates to. There may be others online. I just mark it down as 50 so it looks like: X-small: 10 Small: 20 Medium: 30 Heavy: 40 X-heavy: 50 Then write the number of reps completed. If I combine them, I just add those specific values together for tracking purposes.
Just got a band set and a split bar 3 splits from what seems a European company and it has the triangular fixings like in this video 👍 Just watching a few videos to understand technique and pro / cons. Thanks.
Correct. As long as the stimulus is great enough, regardless of the modality, it will create an anabolic response. From there, you need water, nutrition, and sleep/recovery to build muscle.
For travel first you have bodyweight. If you want equipment to travel w/ a suspension trainer is best. Especially one like the original from John Hinds.
Only if you have a good anchor point for the suspension trainer. Legs is tough with suspension trainers as well depending on your strength levels. It can work, and easy to travel with, but the setup is where I mostly have an issue.
@@GamerBody Anchor points are everywhere? Legs are easy? Squats, step-ups, single leg squats. Also, if you get the type of suspension trainer I recommend it can be used as an isometric device which allows for pretty much any exercise at different positions.
@@oldnatty61 I meant anchor points as in doorways, trees, beams in your house/apartments, etc. Yes, you can use your body similar to resistance bands to anchor it and get some good tension (isometric workouts as you mentioned) but you run into the same problem with overhead pulling movements which, to me, are sketchy for my setup when using my doorway. It will really depend on the environment you are working out in and if isometrics is what you are looking to do - unless you have a stable area to set up the suspension trainer. It can work, but for exercises I see done most with them (inverted rows, push-ups, bodyweight curls, etc) that require a separate anchor, I just don't have a great place for them. They can still work, but it is the reason I don't personally use them and I don't do isometrics - which you can as they work, I just don't like working out that way.
@@GamerBody First, we're talking about traveling. That's not always going to be ideal. It will definitely take you away from your established home environment. What is the best piece of exercise equipment for that situation? The thing that is the smallest, lightest, that offers the most options. That's hands down an old style Jon Hinds suspension trainer w/ foot straps. An anchor point can always be found, and isometrics is just a secondary option.
@@oldnatty61 It is an option if you are traveling a lot. I use the resistance bands for traveling as I already have it in my standard setup so I don't need the additional equipment. If you want to get the suspension trainer you can, but resistance bands would be just fine as well without the additional purchase.
That's so ridiculous that the company which makes the bar, Nstar, or Instar (honestly couldn't understand exactly what he said name was) but more importantly, it actually doesn't sell the rings to hold resistance bands on it, which is literally its entire purpose ffs?!!
Possibly. Injuries can occur with any modality, but I think if used correctly they may be a bit safer than free weights. Of course that will depend how the person uses them.
Also, you are mistaken about the optimal resistance point. Resistance bands actually offer BETTER optimal resistance at the PEAK contraction, which is where you want it because the muscle is strongest at peak contraction. you want the power curve to INCREASE as the lift progresses, which is exactly what the resistance band does. You need to do a little bit better research.
Depends on the exercise and moment arm. For some this may be true, but you actually don't want max resistance on some exercises when the muscle is fully contracted because the actin/myosin bunch up and get in the way, reducing the force your muscle can produce against that resistance. For example, a standard biceps curl goes from weak > strong > weak so you actually want the most resistance near the middle of the movement. The strength to resistance curve doesn't match the entire way, so resistance bands are not optimal in this scenario. However, as long as you go close enough to failure it probably won't matter that much, but it could create a sticking point as well as you tire out and the bunching of actin/myosin reducing the force you can generate can't keep up with the bands resistance. So while your point is true for some exercises, it is not for all. Only machines designed with this in mind can provide perfect strength to resistance curves.
I have an X3 and your setup is probably better. The X3 platform shreds the bands it comes with. Bad design. Plus the bar is too small. I have since financed a barbell, rack, bench, plates, and a lat pulldown, so now that gathers dust.
@@GamerBody I actually dislike how small the plate is. If it folded into a wider position that's one thing, but it forces me into a more narrow squat stance than I prefer. Your setup has a large platform for sure, though it is wide enough to be accommodating of more stance widths.
You should check out the 2 in 1 curl bar from bodylastics. It comes apart into two piece to store away. I really love the bar. I got from amazon. It is crazy good to me
@@thereal366 What exercises are you using it for? Mainly curls as a curl bar or for everything? I have a Bodylastics bar on the way. I got the Innstar bar because I wanted a straight bar. I like the Innstar bar for everything I've tried, except the contracted position of curls puts a weird angle of pull of my wrists that seems like it'd lead to injury over time. I'm not sure if I'll use the B.L. bar for anything but curls.
@@briand5047 I use the bar for deadlifts, squats, shoulder press, chest press, bicep curls, back rows, military press, tricep extension, and leg raises. I love the bar because you can almost do any exercises with resistance bands that you can do with a barbell and free weights.
@@thereal366 That's good. Looking forward to trying it out. Haven't been using bands that long. Got a few BL sets so I have a bunch of tube bands, but so far I've mostly used Undersun bands without the bar and only a few exercises with the Innstar bar. I haven't tried the aerobic step setup yet.
I don't know spanish all that well, but the tension in the bands has stayed for me for a long time. I have switched between equipment from time to time (dumbbells and Speediance) but I was using them regularly for a while. Even if the band tension does reduce over time, the cost is still much better than other options, weighs very little (if traveling or finding a spot to keep them) and have the ability to provide a lot of tension for a long while. I hope that helps.
Just a heads up, I mentioned you / this video in my last video. ua-cam.com/video/NA3FamfS018/v-deo.html Appreciate the work you're doing with resistance bands.
Another wonderful thing--in the annals of holding a camera too close--is that the camera is about eighteen inches away from the speaker's face, and cuts out his arm and leg muscles that the viewer would be interested in seeing. Also, I don't like hearing people speak when they're eighteen inches from my face.
After 6 months this setup is holding up well. I do plan to test some requirement against it to see if I can improve it, but it is a great start. How are you using your resistance bands?

Is it possible double up the bands when using that bar??
@@michaelderenne9838 Yup as long as you have the triangle links I do. I double them for many of the major lifts (not in this video as this was about an hour of shooting just band b-roll, not counting the dumbbells I also made clips for which is more than my standard workouts in total.
Have you ever used individual handles with your undersun bands?
@@ryandegorter4555 Yup, I use them right now "J Hooks". See the ones I have here: ua-cam.com/video/7Yy_aU2YaF0/v-deo.html
Question. I am looking at the full sized platform by the same company (it’s longer). Do you think it’ll be too wide for the bands? It’s 43” instead of 28. Thanks!
You saved me like $600 and the time I would have spent searching for products to build my own setup. Much appreciated.
Watched this 3 times now. Have been fixated on resistance bands because of you !! I had the cove because I trained in a public gym. This setup is a really budget friendly alternative. Thanks man!!
Thanks for taking a look! I hope you recovered well from the cove. Let me know if you have any suggestions for videos using the bands.
Right now I am testing an upper/lower but until the start of this month I had been running a full body program for a long time.
Nice, I moved on to the GEKU bar which is what you were describing above. It is awesome.
I watched this video a while ago and bought the bands, I already had the bar. Tried the set up this week with the step platform and that was SO much better than using your feet.
Yeah, just more comfortable overall. Some exercises are still a little awkward, but most feel better with the platform.
I have the same set up I don’t have the platform. I simply wear shoes or sandals to avoid the pull of the bands on my feet.
It’s funny now to see you using these because I bought the same set-up during COVID lockdown on your recommendation. I haven’t set foot in the gym since.
Nice! How have the workouts been with them?
@@GamerBody good! I’m not ripped like you but I’m not totally sagging now and I lost 15 pounds by cutting out crap snacks. The stuff you recommended seems like it will hold up.
Nice! Keep up the good work and regardless of the equipment, just make sure you provide enough stimulus for each exercise, recover and rebuild. Losing weight is all calorie deficit so that is all you will need for that.
This guy is a genius . A lot of people are looking for a platform on a budget but 99% of people don’t know about this hack
Damn, I thought for sure that at 5:01 putting in the step bench from the otherway that it would fit
This guy's videos are great. I use the link and bought the same setup but have spri bands been using it for a little over a month. It actually works great and I'm seeing results
I have the X3 Bar setup and have been using it for 3 years now. I love it. How do you think this compares?
I don't have the X3 at this time but seems like it is the same concept. The platform is larger to stand on and gives a bit more pre-stretch, and the bar is a bit longer, but you do lose portability if you want to use it traveling.
@@GamerBody fair points. Thanks for the response 👍
Genius idea on the platform setup. Thanks! 👍🏼
I dont think they make carabiner locks wide enough to fit the widest bands
@@onpoint357 Check out the ones I have. I use the M10 3/8" which is perfect for the UnderSun bands, but they do have larger options: amzn.to/3WR8F9S
This was helpful. Thank you. I too think that X3 is more than I want to pay right now. I plan to combine dumbells with bands
Great video! How do you adjust the length of the band being stretched to increase or decrease resistance in your setup?
I add or remove bands as needed. No additional stretching just add on additional bands.
@@GamerBody Got it! Thanks...
Thanks for the info and links to products! I’m looking to replace tube bands with loop ones! Great info!
I appreciate all the ideas you share. I followed your lead and have the same set-up and I'm enjoying it. With the squats, I tend to do Zercher squats with the bar over front squats as it keeps me from doing a home gym fail. Thanks again for your ideas.
I'll have to try that squat variation instead, thanks!
There is the argument does it build muscle as well as weights, probably not,but it does build muscle, for me it's a great pump, and next day after workout I do feel it
Nice! I am glad they are helping you, even if it is in a small way. Keep up the good work.
Setup seems great. How would you progressively overload with that though?
It took a bit to get used to, but it's an awesome alternative and it collapses if you want to travel (it's 5lbs though.)
I got the same platform as you and unfortunately, if I use the heavier bands, it starts cutting into the bands (one of them started to fray when I do deadlifts 😔) but if you combine them with other bands instead of double folding one band, it solves the fraying issue.
Is there anyway to buy a whole kit like this in one bundle
I don't have anything set now, but you can see my entire current setup over at gamerbody.com
A good relatively lower-cost substitute for the Jaquish X3 system. The bands look good, the bar looks okay. Still prefer the X3. Maybe because I've already paid for it.
X3 should hold up well, it's just too narrow for me, and pricey. However if it fits for your body size then it is good to go.
@@GamerBody hi can u explain whats too narrow? Is the bar too short or what...
Ps the footplate looks a good setup
The bar is too short. Sorry, not narrow just short in general. I prefer the longer bar.
Thanks for the suggestion. Do you have an example of what Buff Bandit uses I can take a look at?
@@GamerBody It is on the Buff Bandit channel
I love it when the speaker is explaining why he uses the platform and the bar--and the camera is so close to the speaker that you can't see the platform. Real good camera work.
Got a timestamp I can review to get better next time?
Good, clear review. But at 1:12... "comfortbility"? Really?
Yeah, speaking is hard sometimes.
Awesome review. Do the ends of the bar rotate while you’re performing moves. Or are they static?
They rotate. Makes it way better to use.
@@GamerBody awesome thanks for the reply! So really. You’ve created an x3 bar at a fraction of the cost
Pretty much, it is where I got the idea but didn't want to spend $500+ for it.
@@GamerBody exactly!
I see the same bar manufacturer makes one that breaks down into two sections. seeing your statement on travel, would you prefer the one that breaks into 2 sides?
Is this similar to what you are referring too? ua-cam.com/video/mru0_Q-LLQ8/v-deo.html
Or this one as it is by INNSTAR: ua-cam.com/video/Nd7PuXgcZbs/v-deo.html
Have you tried incorporating BULLWORKER into your program with a hybrid exercise routine.
nope. I have no plans to add one.
You can get 2 and 3 segment bar systems on Amazon that should fit neatly in your travel suitcase
You will have to watch out though as they can be seen as weapons (if you keep them in your carry on). My RB handles got reviewed because of that, so a bar might be scrutinized even more. When I travel, the handles are really all I need until I get back.
Awesome video! Make a review on the new torrobands 💪🏻 🔥
Thanks for the request!
I think it can withstand over 2000 lbs based on this article: stainlesssteelmarine.com/product/stainless-steel-delta-quick-link-316-marine-grade/
Might want to check with the company to be sure though. I've had no issues with it, even adding multiple bands together with overhead press.
If you get a flatbench and put it under the cables.. can u do bench press?
Probably, but getting under the bands (especially with the bar) will be tough as the bands will be stretched a lot already. Could be annoying.
You can use larger carabiners to solve that 'screwing problem'. Other than that, your setup is awesome.
I've recently switched to the GEKU bar and all the bands fit in those. It has been great so far and I hope it continues to hold up.
I wish I caught your Undersun review before I purchased the TRX Bandit package. I ended up buying the Undersun bundle as well, but I don't know what to make of the TRX bands just yet
Hmm let me know. I've never tried the TRX so if you like them I may try them out.
@@GamerBody sure thing
did you look into any carabiner type things before the triangle clips? the triangle clips do look really solid--but a tad pricey for what they are.
I tried regular but the shape and clasp make them almost impossible to use. I like these triangle ones as they can withstand and incredible amount of force/tension
Thank you very much. Your video was really great...well explained..and your video was paced really well. Please keep it up...
You should look up the bandit grips it totally fix the awkward hand grip with resistance bands
I don't have the space or money to get a good multi gym and all the weights needed
I know you say they arent the optimal for building muscle, but I'm mainly looking to just tone up a little, would you recommend these as a good compromise between gym/home gym and doing nothing ?
They can build muscle, just not the most optimal option. You could even say that about my free weight setup as they are not optimal either. It definitely can work, you just need to make sure you are reaching failure in the set you do to activate all of the muscle fibers since the largest of the fibers will be recruited last (when you elicit max effort under fatigue).
@@GamerBody Thanks for that, in time I'm hoping to be able to get a better set up at home but don't want to do nothing for the months or years that takes to come about!
Amazing! How often do you work out per week? Are you doing x3 program
Yeah, that is by far the most awkward exercise to get into. Just keep practicing and it gets easier over time.
Awesome video, thanks! Really helpful for how to setup. Bar is key.
is there any reason for ever having a shorter bar?
It may be more comfortable and feel better to use. I like a shorter bar (currently moved to the GEKU bar) and because the anchor points for the band are closer to your hands, it feels better - at least to me. My old setup is still great, but the GEKU has been an improvement for me.
So, wait this is the same thing as the X3 and Harambesystem?
Pretty close, but quite a bit cheaper. Also, this version has a "taller" platform to get a bit more pre-stretch.
Where can I find pictures of the exercises I should be doing?
Take a look at this video I just made for some options: ua-cam.com/video/XEcd9yEgl_E/v-deo.html
Great setup and so easy to do.
Can you do regular Back Squats with the bands using this set up?
I'm going to say no as it is really hard to setup and get into position. Is it possible, probably, but not a fun exercise to setup. That is why I do front squats.
@GamerBody Thanks. I'm guessing since I have Balance issues because of Nerve Damage in my legs, it would be even more difficult for me.
@@GamerBody Thanks. Yea a video on this would be nice.
@@briand5047 The nice feature about bands is that you can modulate the resistance, sometimes on the fly. But I agree, there should always be resistance.
Yeah most people do not train hard enough regardless so that is key. I'd say that is the main concern and then look for optimal equipment if they want to go beyond a "good" body.
will the band split if under the platform like that. Could you do a vid on medicine ball exercises
Do you see the bands eventually getting damaged/tearing from the friction caused from being in contact with the platform opening?
I think it will be inevitable, but a very long time from now. Hopefully I see it before it actually snaps.
Heiio. Were did you get the platfofm

Could you review indoor jump rope
I used to use the Crossropes but I haven't done jump roping in a long time. Not something I really feel is necessary. If you enjoy it though, go for it. Are you looking for any in particular?
I use a sliding bench trainer (total gym type of machine but way cheaper) and bands together, I find using them both is pretty fun.. can’t really travel with it but I have kind of came to the conclusion that I have my bands which I’m happy with
Would like to see your review on the total gyms/sliding bench trainers, I think the price of the total gym is horrendous so I wouldn’t expect you to buy one but maybe a cheaper option?
Can you send me a link? I just want to make sure I am looking at the same thing you are referring too.
Thanks for any input
Kurt
I have not used it personally, but should be fine I would think, just a little bigger.
Have you found any way to do back squats?
Not comfortable/easily. I do them either front squat, or with the J handles instead. Over the back is way to hard to get into properly and is a nuisance to get out of as well.
@@GamerBody thank you.

@@GamerBody no, not talking about the X3 by Dr jaquish or whatever his name is. Just XBAR FITNESS
How often do you replace your resistance bands due to deterioration
I have not replaced them at all yet outside of the X-small band that snapped the first day but was replaced by UnderSun. Been good since.
Thankyou
What about the x3? Is that better than this setup?
No idea as I have not tried it. It is very similar though, but this one does get a bit more pre-stretch in the band on the platform and has a longer bar. I could see the potential to travel with the X3 being easier.
I have resistance bands with handles can u make more video with them please
Which handles are you using?
@@GamerBody with two handles for both hands
I meant which brand of handles are you using? I'm interested in seeing if I can test them out.
Very nice home setup.
@@GamerBody Ah makes sense. And the triangle clips are from Undersun?

You can work all those weak areas with bands the same if not better than weights. You just got to learn how to do it. I hit all the weak spots or parts that i struggle with before doing my strong sets. Works better than any weight i have tried. Good luck.
Strength curves are the big issue with bands, but can still be used to build muscle and improve weak areas.
"It should be noted that scientific studies in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research have found that there’s no significant difference in muscle recruitment when it comes to resistance band training vs traditional weight training, and that both offer similar benefits for muscle growth and building strength."
"Your muscles don't care what tension is put on them. Whether your pulling on a band or pushing a car or lifting a weight , your muscles senses it as tension .And tension in general produces growth"
What are your top leg workout band recommendations?
Do you mean top exercises? I do front squats, Romanian deadlifts, calf raises, and sometimes split squats. That's all.
Can you link that Goku anatomy chart?
I would, but YT will probably block it. Just search "Goku Anatomy chart" on Redbubble or Google and it should come up. I then bought a large poster from there.
Thank you!
I love it when the speaker says he will need resistance bands, so the camera, which is already cutting off part of the bands, moves closer to the bands. Real intelligent; i the camera hadn't done that, I might have looked at the ceiling.
Huh?
You should get iron infidel bands the highest one goes heavier than the under sun if you need heavier and they feel very strong
I've never been to a gym but can you do leg workouts with this and how?
You made a x3 bar system
Pretty much, just a lot cheaper.
Great workout equipment kind of reminds of the gorilla bow I use which the gorilla bow has 2 versions you can detached it for traveling and put it away verses not being able to put the bar away but this looks just as good 👌 and seems to have great resistance for the right amount of tension you need to work the muscles 💪😎great set up
Thanks! Yeah I always felt the Gorilla Bow was really big and bulky and you had to use their bands. Did you like it?
nice set up dude
Thanks :)
Maybe if you are really tall and want a wide stance. Otherwise, the standard platform is the way to go imo.
Sincerely,
Ex Gym Rat
The amount of "isolation" for hand grip difference is so small (if any) it isn't worth it. If you want variety, then sure, change up the hands. Now other muscle groups might come into play more with different hand positions, but changing the results of the same muscle group, if training hard enough, won't matter as they should all be recruited and fatigued accordingly. An example is a chest press width vs. close grip as the chest press is most chest dominant, where the close grip is more triceps dominant.
Wider platforms?
Are you looking for a wider platform?
I just mark it down as 50 so it looks like:
X-small: 10
Small: 20
Medium: 30
Heavy: 40
X-heavy: 50
Then write the number of reps completed. If I combine them, I just add those specific values together for tracking purposes.
Just got a band set and a split bar 3 splits from what seems a European company and it has the triangular fixings like in this video 👍
Just watching a few videos to understand technique and pro / cons.
Thanks.
INNSTAR sell their own type of "resistance bands" and I think that is why. They are those bungie-looking bands but I have not tried those yet.
If you value your joints and/or over 50, bands aren't optional IMHO. Less injury and faster recovery.
Possibly. Injuries can occur with any modality, but I think if used correctly they may be a bit safer than free weights. Of course that will depend how the person uses them.
@@GamerBody sorry that was a typo. I meant aren't optional.
I like how small the X3 bar plate is, but that is not good if it rips through the bands...I hope they fix that
@@GamerBody I actually dislike how small the plate is. If it folded into a wider position that's one thing, but it forces me into a more narrow squat stance than I prefer. Your setup has a large platform for sure, though it is wide enough to be accommodating of more stance widths.
Good point. I think it may help for traveling, but it will be hard for regular squats.
You should check out the 2 in 1 curl bar from bodylastics. It comes apart into two piece to store away. I really love the bar. I got from amazon. It is crazy good to me
Thanks, I'll have to take a peek at it and see. How long have you used it?
@@GamerBody I have used the bar for 2 weeks and I love it. Best investment money can buy.
Secondo me con la barra molti esercizi diventano inefficaci!non si ha più la possibilità di regolare la tensione.
I have a bar that comes apart.
Yup INNSTAR has a 2 piece bar. I prefer the regular, but the 2 piece you can travel with.
Bands under your feet especially when going heavy you'll destroy your ankles
As I get into stronger bands it is more noticeable. That is why I like the platform :)
Just a heads up, I mentioned you / this video in my last video. ua-cam.com/video/NA3FamfS018/v-deo.html Appreciate the work you're doing with resistance bands.
Awesome and thanks for the shoutout in the video!
Comfortability? Don't you mean comfort 🤷♂️
Yeah, speaking is hard sometimes.
Another wonderful thing--in the annals of holding a camera too close--is that the camera is about eighteen inches away from the speaker's face, and cuts out his arm and leg muscles that the viewer would be interested in seeing. Also, I don't like hearing people speak when they're eighteen inches from my face.
Thanks for the tips.
