- "To celebrate the first day of spring, or Velykden (the great day), ancient people of Ukraine decorated eggs with bright and fiery designs." Learn the history of the Ukrainian art of pysanka, or decorating eggs, a custom that predates the Christian era. Follow along as Luba Perchyshyn, a master of the art, goes through the elaborate process of drawing in wax on the egg before dipping it into the dyes. This is repeated numerous times on each egg, using a darker color every time. The symbolic meaning of the designs is also discussed, and examples of pysanky throughout the centuries are shown.

I have started collecting particularly beautiful eggs, but my goodness I would love to take a full on class to master the lines like this amazing woman. This is truly a master at work, she would have so much to teach those who seek this lost art. Just beautiful beyond words.
Edit: I have taken the plunge, and now can write eggs without messing up my lines. Endless practice and learning in my future, but I am truly addicted to this.
We have hundreds of these from Ukraine, as 2 of my grandparents were from there.
It’s mind-blowing how beautiful they are.
Thank you for posting this.

THE best pysanka documentary ever made! I am so happy to have found it online tonight because I am teaching my first pysanka class in decades tomorrow. This video will have pride of place as I teach this ancient practice of my ancestors to a new generation.
An oldie but a goody
Love this vid--learned pysanky from it. But oh, to watch her using those dyes while wearing a hand-embroidered linen Ukrainian blouse! And such confidence in drawing the lines. A master.
Thank you very much for sharing this gem! I liked that the plate and the shirt showed Ukrainian patterns, too.
Peace to all of Ukraine ... 🕊️🇺🇦🇺🇳🇪🇺
Very interesting and what a beautiful documentary, the voice, colours, lighting makes it magical.
Рада, що такий фільм опублікували, рада натрапити на цей чудовий дарунок усім українцям
Such a fantastic documentary

Very cool.......I'm colorblind but I still loved the designs.
Such an interesting documentary and what captivating art !
Thank you so much for sharing a beautiful rare video about the Easter traditions of my country. We have a great respect for pysanka, because it is one of the most important artifacts of Ukrainian culture, dating back to ancient times.
Happy and peaceful Easter for everyone.
From Ukraine with love. 🇺🇦❤️
