I lost it when he did his curtsey
Shane Joyce I am surprised everyone dining was able to keep a straight face. 🤣
@@StephanieSxo Not just back then. In 1996 or '97 (I forget which) I had the honor of serving as chauffeur/protection for HRH Princess Michael of Kent (HM Queen Elizabeth II's first-cousin-by-marriage) when she visited the USA and Canada. (Her husband, Prince Michael of Kent, is 15th in the line of succession to the British throne.) A month before her arrival, we received a packet of information/instructions on how to behave, with rules such as "Never speak unless spoken to," "On first meeting address her as 'Your Royal Highness' and after that as 'Ma'am'," and so forth
@@StephanieSxo Fortunately, I had served in the US Air Force, first as an enlisted man in the regular Air Force and then as an officer in the Air Force Auxiliary, so I was used to and understood the game. Protocol, pomp and circumstance, and all that. Not blood boiling on my part.
I think you'll find it's a "deep royal bow" that used to be done up till the Georgian times. A royal bow and a curtsy were similar except a bow leans forward and a curtsy keeps a straight back most probably adopted later due to corsets. So a royal bow is a curtsy with a bow and at that time would be extremely old fashioned.
.....with a pitcher of water 2!! 💜😅
The look on the dowagers face after the curtsey was priceless.
and Cora's
@@OAS15 And Lady Mary...
And Carson too.
And Andrew.
She looks so done. 😂😂😂
I broke out into a nervous sweat during this scene...don't get me wrong, I found it hilarious...but I could totally see myself in his shoes!
Me too... I actually had to look away!!!
@@fishyc150 it was so hilarious though:-P
@@samanthawhatshername2939
For me it was the best scene in the entire series... the way the camera zoomed in on him as he realised what hed done and started to crack. Absolutely brilliant!
@@fishyc150 Brilliant! But made me feel so uncomfortable haha
د
Everyone likes to think that we would be Lord Grantham or Branson, but the truth is that most of us have more Molesley in us than we like to admit.
Me too.
Branson??! I'd sooner be Isis.
Yessss
well said Roy
Molesley's allowed to feel overwhelmed. Queen Mary said as much. If Their Majesties come to know how he hauled himself up by his bootstraps, he will have earned their respect.
For anyone confused:
Household Staff are not allowed to speak unless spoken to, especially when a member of the Royal Family is present. Men give a slight bow at the neck (from what I’ve noticed) and women curtsy.
Right, but I understand he needed the credit to go to the Downton staff. To stand up for them and represent them.
Under most circumstances a man gives a neck bow
@@EllEv04 he might have been out of line, but to say you just can't understand that a man would be so overjoyed at serving a monarch he worships that he might forget his place is kinda weird.
How good to find someone on UA-cam who knows what they are talking about. You might also like to know, just in case, that you call The Queen Your Majesty just twice a day, the first time you meet her in the morning and when you see her for the last time that day. Otherwise Ma'am is sufficient. It's the same with Royal Highness. I rather enjoy Downton. So much more real than the nonsense that is The Crown.
@@GeoCrockerPot Not to the king. Where where you brought up??
Lol, Tom's face is also priceless! When you fail so hard at court protocol that even an anti-monarchist looks awkward, lmao!
Best scene of the movie. The ticking of the clock in the silent, stunned room.
Caroline Whiteside That wasn’t the clock; that was the sound of several cerebral hemorrhages emanating from Carson.
probably is yes
and the wood floor creaking!
Kevin Doyle plays Mr. Molesley flawlessly. I just love him! So glad they included this scene in the movie!
Lady Mary’s face after Mosley’s curtsey. 😂😂😂
I don’t know if I could contain myself. I’ll probably have to stuff my face with food
@@jehannethompson1432
🤣🤣🤣😭
When I saw this at the Cinema, all the audience cheered and howled with laughter .. Mosley is priceless .. :D
we even applauded....
That was some good acting right there! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Went to see it in the theater three times. Every time people.busy out laughing during this scene.
Somehow my dad got up in the middle of the scene and missed (in my opinion) the best part of the movie
And Violets face was like its a shame hes tgis way
Carson was about to have a conniption right tthere.
What a marvelous moment for Kevin Doyle.
ugly man damn dan stevens had to quit
@@taroman7100 He is a very fine man, and a great actor.
@@dorinc6033 Yes indeed!
Brilliant acting by Kevin Doyle. Brilliant expressions from everyone. Michael Engler and his cast nailed it here.
I love how gracious and funny the queen was. I'd love to find out what other "strange" encounters the royal couple have faced lol
They probably have their hands full mopping up after their idiot of an heir, David, Prince of Wales, later Edward VIII. George V is known to have preferred his second son Bertie (George VI).
Poor Mr. Molesley. I crack up every time I see this scene. The actor pulled it off spectacularly. He was so pleased with himself until he realized what he had done. And then he completely forgot he was a man and curtseyed like a female after Her Majesty spoke to him.
Loool
what mr Mosley did in this scene that embarrassed him?? I dont understand. ???
@@masoudkh5104 He had curtsied instead of bowing. Men bow and women curtsy to the royals
@@masoudkh5104 Also, he spoke out of turn. He BRAGGED. One must never brag. Very bad show. lol
💜😅🤦 Definitely something I would have done due 2 anxiety!
I watch this movie in the cinema and the whole audience was in hysterics at this scene.
Those were the days when going to the movies are still a thing 😢
Oh, my word! I've watched the film 4 times already, and I burst out in laughter and snort, every time Molesley is in the limelight! 😂😂😂 Truly, I NEVER tire of this scene: Molesley's pride (well deserved); the "jaw drops"; the clock ticking; his reaction, once he realizes his "impertinence"; the continuously ticking clock; and his innocence in trying to right his "wrong", with his curtsey. Truly, epic! 😁👍
Dolores Herrera You sure that was the clock? I thought maybe that was the sound of several cerebral hemorrhages in Carson’s brain.
I love Molesley!!! 🥰
How did they hold their composure filming that scene. I would die laughing every take of the scene.
After the curtsy, watch for the facial expression of the Dowager!!!
Everyone else is shocked and dismayed, the Dowager looks sympathetic and sorry for him. She's always had a soft spot for poor old Molesley.
Pity and slight disgust.
@@hisserenehighness5930 I was thinking the same thing. :)
Finally just saw this a day or so ago. Specifically waited so I could watch it with a friend who had never seen DA and so I went back and binged the entire show with her. We both just howled when Molseley curtsied!!
Me and my gf did the same thing lol. Love Molesley!!
Looking at Carlson's outraged expression, its a miracle Molesley wasn't promptly throttled the moment he could be alone with him.
What a moment, Moseley's creaking footman clothes at the curtsey. Genius.
I have tears from laughing so hard 😂😂😂. The curtsy, the slow walk away, the dowager’s face 😂😂😂 so funny
That Mosley curtsy had me 💀for days. Everyone in the theatre LTAO too 🤣
I felt so embarrassed for him lmao and the look on his face - I COULD NOT TAKE IT.
The Dowagers reaction was so funny!!!’
I could not stop laughing after watching this scene! I love Mr Mosley!!
I'll admit this is a hilarious scene. However, one of the things I loved about the series was Molesley's growth. He went from us thinking he's a pitiful buffoon, to someone so brilliant he surpassed highly educated people.
Instead, he's goofy from the start of the film, and only shows restraint when the king and queen are leaving.
What would've made this scene even better would've been him helping prepare others in how to behave in front of the king and queen. THEN have this happen. Similar to the cricket match.
Man the cricket match episode had me in stitches 😂. I’ve always loved Mosley! He’s such an honest man who is eager to lend a helping hand. Hilarious as well!
I never thought Mosley was a buffoon. I always thought he deserved the title of butler.
I could be wrong, but I think I remember reading something about backing out of the presence of the king being part of protocol. I remember a scene in Darkest Hour where this was done. I figure that it has something to do with not showing insult by turning one's back on the Monarchy. If this is not the case, I'm sure someone will correct me who is more knowledgeable about such things. If I am right, I have to applaud the attention to detail in that regard.
Every one of these characters had a great journey from start to finish. I just got through rewatching the entire series, and the 2 movies, and I would dearly love to see more of these characters.
Class and culture.
No British Countess would have thanked the Queen for her kindness. The upper-class Brits would not compliment the queen because she acted in a manner befitting a "lady".
But Cora is American. She is not as stuffy and constrained; she tells it like it is.
Didn't catch that - thanks. These finer points are always fun to learn about when watching these kinds of period pieces.
@@anyviolet That's absolute bullshit. Of course the great ladies of Britain would compliment the queen. It's courteous to as a hostess, and it's polite on a personal level. The Queen herself proves this point by defusing an awkward situation by complimenting Mrs Packmore.
I don’t think you can say with any certainty what they would or wouldn’t do in that situation. These people were very much constrained by protocol but it didn’t dictate their every word or action.
@@samsmith92samsmith
No. It isn't bullshit.
The King and Queen are in positions of ABSOLUTE SUPERIORITY here.
Telling the Queen that she has been "kind" places Lady Grantham on an equal footing, in front of all the assembled people. She could say that to her in a private chat..... and in a tone of her own gratefulness, i.e. "Your Majesty, I was so grateful to you for.........." ......Bur NOT ""That was kind of you, Ma'am!"
Cora does it because she it American, and doesn't QUITE get it.
@@libertyordeaf
Cora is not expressing herself in a sufficiently humble manner. See my other post.
Best scene in the movie. The curtesy is gold!
This is the best scene in the entire series! Mr. Molesley is a loveable character and I'm glad he finally found happiness.
Andy had the best facial expression of disbelief 🤣🤣🤣
I saw this in the cinema the audience let out a gasp when Mosley spoke and hysterical laughter at the curtsey
This made me laugh and cry at the same damn time.
He deserves an award for this scene. One of the funniest things I have ever seen. I howled so hard 😂😂😂😂😂
Allen Leech revealed that Kevin Doyle mimicked Theresa Mays awkward courtsy. 😂
By the time the curtsey I was on the floor laughing 🤣🤣🤣
I felt so embarrassed watching this scene! I thought "why, why, why did you speak?!!!" He should have known that he wasn't supposed to speak!
In the excitement and enthusiasm, he simply forget himself.
I had to pause the video twice out of second hand embarrassment
1:53 I can't stop laughing!!!
The dowager's face just killed me....
😁🤣🤣😃 can't stop laughing! Love it!
Who doesn't love mosely lol... I felt his fear too 😂😂😂 and the courtesy was the icing on the cake
It looks as we get a new Dowton Abbey movie in 2022. I hope it will come.
I adore Molesley. He's my favorite downstairs character. Tom is my favorite upstairs character, especially during the seasons following Sybil's death.
Hahahahaha Mosley, a curtsy??? this has reminded me of Mr. Collins in Pride and prejudice. Hahahaha
Yes, very like Mr Collins with Lady Catherine.
I can't stop laughing! Oh Mosley 👏🤣
This was just adorable! :D Poor Mr. Mosely though, his legs bent apart like pudding when he was curtseying.
Moseley tried to be helpful in the wrong place, at the wrong time, for the wrong persons. Fortunately in the movie was treated well.
I just watched this on Netflix and nearly fainted when Molesley casually spoke lol..bless him!
Wait, did he just curtsy? Lol
Yep. He curtsied.
no he just farted his panties
Sir Shanks OK
@@Roheryn100 ok.
.....and with a pitcher of water 2!! 💜😅🤦!!
Love these clips. For the way they eat, but specially for the continuity errors that are a delight throughout the series
This scene made the movie. It was hillarious!
I wonder if this scene needed more than one take because
the cast all cracked up?
Also, those creaking sounds! 🤣
When I saw this at the Cinema, all the audience cheered and howled with laughter .. Mosley is priceless .. :D Everyone was laughing very hard, during this scene.
You can see his pride turn to horror after he realizes what he has just done. What an amazing close up. Best scene of the movie and best acting on Molesley’s part!
My favorite scene of the movie!
Wonderful. Cannot stop chuckling about this scene :D
Cora's 'Mr Molseley, Her Majesty is speaking to you' is a such a masterful way of picking up Queen Mary's cue and moving the awkward situation along
Poor discombobulated Mosely! Too hilarious lauhed till my sides hurt.
Everyone froze but if I'd been sitting at that table I'd have reached straight for the wine!
Fantastic acting by Kevin Doyle!
I love Mr Molesley - Kevin Doyle plays him so well!
The Queen handled it perfectly...poised, dignified but very kind to the poor fella...
When Molsley spoke up I immediately had to look away from the screen and started saying “oh, no,no,no,no,no,no”🤣
Moseley is my favourite character. He's such a sincere, awkward character.
That ticking clock is all of us…
Watching this is craaaaazy because Tom was once staff
That curtsy! He looked like he was going to pee on himself like a little girl 🤣🤣
After Molseley's correction, i imagine, George V. must have thought "revolutionary people here..."
I think Molesley's whole life flashed in front of him for those few seconds! 😂
We had to rewind this we were laughing so goddamn hard. God bless Molesley.
The WTF expression on Andy's face is hilarious!!!
i lost it at his curtsey
Mr Molesley,,,,damn that had me laughing with tears rolling...lol
the first time is saw this i was just as mortified for him. LOVE this show & both movies. I hope they do more. not sure what else they could do
The king was hiding his need to laugh sooo hard!! They must enjoy awkward people are around them all the time!!
It's always more interesting when things don't go quite to plan.
Look at everybody's faces when he curtsies. It looks like they're trying their hardest not to laugh in real life and mess up the scene. 🤣🤣🤣
I love the character Mosley, but found him to be a bit of a Bell end in real life when I acted along side him in the crimson field. He played a brigadier in that and had the cheek to tell me to do up my top button off camera like he thought he was a real brigadier. Great acting on his part though. I still laughed.
HAHAHA THIS SCENE IS SO DAMN FUNNYYY
Alright Moseley! Too funny! Lol
“Well, uh, how did she *contrive* to make your acquaintance?!”
The dowager is something else 😂
1:40 Edith's face lmao
am I the only one who thinks that Molesley was different in the movie. I think he was a little foolish. I mean I would say that he was a little awkward in the series but he was wise and smart and kind. And if the Molesley from the series would have served to the Queen and King, he wouldn’t have done this. I mean in the movie it seemed like he was high all the time.
Agreed Moseley wasn't himself in most of the movie but we all know why. He was greatly excited by the arrival of the royals. He was literally "fanboying" over the probability of seeing & serving the king & queen. This happens to many people who meet someone they greatly admire or is a fan of. Noticed how after the royals left he was himself again.
Merilla...from Anne with an E. I couldn't place the queen for anything!
Ok but ediths headband is so pretty omg
I LOVE Mosely! Love him!
The best curtsy ever!
I did not know whether to laugh or facepalm during this scene.
Molesley is truly something special.
The entire cinema burst out laughing then clapped at this scene when I saw it!
Oh please don’t speak in the presence of the gods !
I might buy the movie just for this scene! 😄
And not much has changed. I bet Queen Elizabeth has had some chuckle moments...
Carson looked as if he'd seen a ghost!!🤣🤣🤣
Ha ha moseley hilarious, 😂😂😂😂
So funny x
Omg how did the other actors keep a straight face when filming haha 😅 the actor playing Mosley (Kevin Doyle ?) Is amazing and so sweet.
Molesley remains the most awkward valet/footman with butlering skills at Downton.
Bruh i has this on my netflix list but hadn’t got time to watch and now it’s gone and couldn’t find it anywhere now in my country 😭😭😭
I haven't watched the whole seris, but it's the 1st time Cora is not lovingly smoothng over and helping. Robert too. Oh, Edith's reaction as she empathises with him, all her own awkwardness throughout the years playing 2d fiddle, being mobbed and getting affected by it. She understands what he must feel like and gets nervous in resonance. I think Moleslesy did very well in forming his apology calmly and nicely.
His cracking knees as he tried to show his respect and compensate his mistakes by kneelng for royals! Mary was hard as usual
THe Queen herself was the most gracious, mature one.
Oh sweet boy!!
... And the little squeaking sound his schoes make as he curtsies...
Moseley: The Charlie Brown of Downton haha
