Sidious knew the Vong existed after the time of Outbound Flight. That is why Outbound flight needed to be destroyed. The Death Star was designed to fight Yuuzhan Vong Worldships.
As insane as this sounds, it fits perfectly the sith mentality. Vitiate was already an immortal sith emperor, way stop there? According to the rule of two, every next generation of the sith must be better than the previous. Since some ancient sith achieve a simple immortality, the next logical step should be a divinity - becoming a god.
And in the meantime (while Palpatine were planning his takeover of the Republic) the Jedi, effectively ruling the Galaxy for centuries already, planned to do... what? Did they plan to build, to create something? No. Impotent, all of them.
The Death Star was bad idea even for Sidious needs, Darth Bane would probably would agree with Vader and Thrawn. At most the Death Star been built after fullfill in his own goals and point outside of the galazy not inward.
It was actually a giant toilet. Think about it, the second Death Star was bigger and better in every way, and the one single greatest improvement was that the Emperor's tower lacked a bathroom of any sort, but it DID have a shaft leading straight down to the reactor. Let's face it, when you've got that much power, you can't just drop trou and take a Sith anywhere you please, it's gotta be capable of handling the unbridled power of the brown side.
Many in the comment section mentioned the nearing arrival of the Yuuzhan Vong was a reason for Palpatine to build the Death Star. I never fully understood how he would have foreseen the arrival of the Yuuzhan Vong, since they are completely detached from the force unable to sense it or be sensed through the force. The only explanation I can come up with is that Palpatine sensed a shatterpoint although it's debateable if the Yuuzhan Vong would create a senseable shatterpoint.
@@pituk8913 Yes, I know that Thrawn had informations about the Yuuzhan Vong. I haven't read Unbound Flight yet, it's on my list but this one question: Was the intel Thrawn had about the Yuuzhan Vong really enough for Palpatine to build such a great military force?
good point... I do not think he sensed exactly Vong - but rather something that immune to the Force (a gap in the Force), a threat (he would even if they were fluffy kittens - bastard is paranoid) and that it is moving towards Empire so Death Star being his plan to confront threats he can't combat with Force powers in my opinion pretty valid idea
@@SlayXemnas technically there is also the story of maul struggling to beat just one of them. Granted he didn’t use his lightsaber to maintain secrecy, but even using the dark side to empower himself he barely won. To someone like palpatine, who basically worships the dark side’s power and wants to truly master it, the fact they could keep up with maul terrified him. Also he might not sense them directly, but it’s possible he could see potential destruction using future sight.
Building the Death Star to counter the Yuuzhan Vong is just a fan theory. In truth, the structure and hold over the galaxy of the Empire itself, gave the Vong pause, causing them to hold off their invasion. Which is one of the reasons why Thrawn supported a return of the empire over the New Republic. Besides, Palpatine was full of himself, and the Vong were a blind spot. They, if he was even aware of them, were beneath his concern as he was near victory and saw only absolute power ahead for him. Luke was a bigger concern for him. Rouge Moffs, Admirals and assassins were a bigger concern for him than a bunch of nomads hiding at the edge of the galaxy for who knows how long, and so weak that their world ships were starting to fail and they could not even tough the Force. And that last part would’ve meant that he would not be able to get any sense of them through the Force to indicate their intentions or if they might turn out to be a threat. A Force vision of their invasion would only show war, maybe some shadowy shapes, but nothing of them.
Fear does not keep people in line. When people are afraid, sanity goes out the window. Using fear only means you will be unable to predict people's actions.
Our beloved Emperor Sheeve Palpatine believed in peace above all else . Peace through superior fire power , he knew that a few death stars could protect the entire galaxy from beings such as the Vong . Unfortunately , the blood thirsty terrorist organization known as the alliance destroyed them to aid in the Vong's conquest of the galaxy . They brutally murdered millions of their fellow galactic citizens in order to assist the invaders .
It's kinda funny, Palpatine wanted to rule but was a shitty ruler who sabotaged his own Empire and then whined about how everyone was incompetent barring him (and a few others) despite him being the reason for their incompetence. How can his men rise to greatness when he himself wasn't a great ruler, they just reflected his bad Leadership. I know Palpatine had greater goals than the Empire, I just find it amusing how he cursed everyone for not being up to his standards while he himself wasn't up to those standards either. Could you please do a Video about Palpatine's Gardener?
In some respects, that still doesn't explain the need for the Death Star, though. Smaller ships, though obviously still big dreadnoughts, could carry weapons that could do what the ststion could. They could carry enough TIEs to swarm enemies, troops, materiel, and prefab bases to drop on groubd troops, and even an eclipse cannon that could wreck capital ships, or worlds, in a few shots. More than thay, though, once the Jedi were gone, there doesn't seem to be much need to rule directly, if what he wanted was to fade away, and be an evil Yoda, unlocking forgotten secrets. Short of needing to goad dead ghosts that he was worthy of their secrets; HE ruled the galaxy, it seems being Emperor was purely for the pride, and arrogance, of Sidious. Et the galaxy flounder, split up a bit, and do what it will; when he returns with true power, he cab get it back then, but these esoteric pursuits don't seem to benefit from having a Death Star, or being an Emperor; they were just extras, or even hurdles. It's too bad, though. My own biggrst complaint is often how little Vader seemed to fit into plans. The Emperor didnt want him fixated on stalking Jedi survivors, or killing all of his incompetent officers, yet there always seemed so little else that Vader, specifically, was beeded to do. It would have been cool to actually see Palpatine making plans where Vader was crucial, and only Vader could work.
So reading so many comments about the Vong…the Deus Ex Machina of the SW universe. Never understood how they can be outside the force if all life is connected through it. Whether you like it or not. Seemed like the author who I forget needed a villain for villains sake. So much like most of Legends it has ideas but if you use literary sense most of it is crap
I don’t know… this all seems really complicated compared to Palpatine’s ultimate goal. Did he really need to rule the Galaxy to be able to alter reality? If he could alter reality, he could quite easily create a reality in which he rules the Galaxy as a fanatically worshipped deity. He can complete step 1 by just skipping to step 2.
He was basically a middle aged man who buys a flash car 🚘 lol 😂 if you build a death 💀 star 🌟 the size of a planet 🌍 that’s one hell of a midlife crises 😂
Not to sound like the salty fan but I wish they would relegate the most recent trilogy into legends, allowing Lucas and Filoni to setup a trilogy that paves way for the Vong
Alter reality? How about these: six Infinity Stones, which are: Space Stone: Blue Reality Stone: Red Power Stone: Purple Mind Stone: Yellow Time Stone: Green Soul Stone: Orange
odd that you seem to claim that the sith shrine is probably the most powerful focus of darkside energy, when realistically, that would, and _should_ be mortis, since that is where Abaloth became what she is now.
i dont think i like this that mutch as this seems more like vititate than palpatine i think it would be better if he needed it because of things like yuuzhang vong to destroy their world ships or to destroy planet sized beings like Zonama Sekot or Mnggal-Mnggal and as a symbol or threats like it as there are a suprising amount of entities/ aliens that its better to destroy the planet they are on then to try and reclaim

He knew about the Vong because Thrawn had encountered them in the unknown regions
I do not think he sensed exactly Vong - but rather something that immune to the Force (a gap in the Force), a threat (he would even if they were fluffy kittens - bastard is paranoid) and that it is moving towards Empire
so Death Star being his plan to confront threats he can't combat with Force powers in my opinion pretty valid idea
Not a man with small aims, eh? XD
Fear does not keep people in line. When people are afraid, sanity goes out the window. Using fear only means you will be unable to predict people's actions.
You can use fear, but you have to keep open a route to safety. Otherwise, you create people with nothing to lose.
He identified as a no small moon 🌙
The next Yavin IV? You meant Alderaan, right?
I think he means that after destroying Gavin IV he was gonna blow up moncalamari
Finally more details and descriptions that aren't about the YV. Excellent content.
Somehow ... nah, nice work.
plans within plans… 🤔
The Death Star was more of a scare tactic than anything
I mean how many planets did u really see them blow up with that thing
So reading so many comments about the Vong…the Deus Ex Machina of the SW universe. Never understood how they can be outside the force if all life is connected through it. Whether you like it or not.
Seemed like the author who I forget needed a villain for villains sake.
So much like most of Legends it has ideas but if you use literary sense most of it is crap
Daarth Star = Death Star? I could have been a dark mantra (daarth Mantra) lol
i'm going to guess so he could blow up yuuzhan vong world ships in a single shot.
Wow only 1 min!?!? Last time I came this early my gf broke up with me!… wait…
An oldie, but a goody!!
He needed it cuz he hadn't mastered the Force Storm yet.
Why does this seem like KK's plan for star wars as well😑😑😑
Shibai Otsosuki
He was basically a middle aged man who buys a flash car 🚘 lol 😂 if you build a death 💀 star 🌟 the size of a planet 🌍 that’s one hell of a midlife crises 😂
He needed to prop up the failing Imperial steel industry.
I really can't believe that he actually believes that he could become a god
/Hears the spaceballs song
Not to sound like the salty fan but I wish they would relegate the most recent trilogy into legends, allowing Lucas and Filoni to setup a trilogy that paves way for the Vong
Alter reality?
How about these:
six Infinity Stones, which are:
Space Stone: Blue
Reality Stone: Red
Power Stone: Purple
Mind Stone: Yellow
Time Stone: Green
Soul Stone: Orange
Thank you for covering the lore and not.....other things.....
I would go so far as to say Sidious is was the Anti-Christ of Star Wars!!!
essentially, generic or classic anime shonen villain ambition
You presume limits to his power. There are none.
odd that you seem to claim that the sith shrine is probably the most powerful focus of darkside energy, when realistically, that would, and _should_ be mortis, since that is where Abaloth became what she is now.
Day 637 of asking for a part 3 of what if anakin was trained by qui gon

Thrawn was right. The Death Star was just a big-@$$ target.😊
So hes ultimate goal was to shape all living beings to dark side and worship him. Kingdom of the dark force.............. forever in dark..........
i dont think i like this that mutch as this seems more like vititate than palpatine
i think it would be better if he needed it because of things like yuuzhang vong to destroy their world ships or to destroy planet sized beings like Zonama Sekot or Mnggal-Mnggal and as a symbol or threats like it as there are a suprising amount of entities/ aliens that its better to destroy the planet they are on then to try and reclaim
All of this is wrong. It was to show off his big balls. That's why he built two, one bigger than the other.
