    It's hard to beat the value of the Speed Spool 2nd gen. Amazon has the Left Hand crank for just $82 right now. No centrifugal brakes, but its hard to backlash with just the magnetic brakes. And there's no hook holder, but I can live without that since most of my rods still have theirs.

    So Lews has always been my go-to brand. Here recently (summer 2024) I've been considering getting the new diawa tatula ct. I've heard some great things....but I have previously owned a couple lews mp and I KNOW they are amazing.
    Any thoughts or comparisons?

    I bought several Lews reels when they were still partners with Browning (I bought BB1’s) I still have them and they are in excellent shape and would still land big fish. Lews has made some outstanding products in the past decade or so and now being owned by Strike King’s parent company I believe you will always be able to rely on Lew’s products. Great review Ben 👍😉👍🎣

    Just picked this reel up today, I paired it with an Abu Garcia 6'6" Medium Fast action Vendetta 30 ton graphite Rod. I spooled my reel with 12lb. Fluorocarbon line by Seagar. My combo will be rigged for cranking, frogs and swim baits.

    Love my MP I just got but the reason your button is harder to push and shit on your old reels is because they're probably dirty and need to be taken apart and cleaned. Ive got some old cheap reels that are just as good as my more expensive ones because I thoroughly clean then and get all the grit out of them. They're actually better than new once I took them apart and gave em a good cleaning

    • @OneCastFishing
      @OneCastFishing  4 роки тому

      They did need to be cleaned. I cleaned it shortly after!!

  • @charlievthetuna

    Why in the heck didn't they number the positions of the external brake dial on the older MP? "Max > and < Free" is an engineering fault. This may be a big difference to first time buyers. Those guys will have to remove the sideplate to see the travel. The older version casts much better imo than the newer "cheaper" versions.
    Also, Lew's behind in the times, not offering shallow spools versus adding mono backing. if you prefer shallow spools, get a Shimano, AG Revo or Daiwas. Sad. I prefer Lew's, but bought other brands to save the hassle of backing.

    Awesome review! I'm currently looking for the MB based on other reviews and found this video. Thanks for clarifying that the MP is new version of MB as Lews took the MB off their site and it is scarce out there right now! If I can't find one, I'll probably go with this MP or the BB1. Which would you choose? Want it primarily for cranking. Also-what are your thoughts on Lews cranking rods? Thanks for your time and keep posting good content to UA-cam and the NC Bass Fishing page!

    • @OneCastFishing
      @OneCastFishing  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching. If you want a reel for cranking then go with the BB1. It is by far the best cranking reel ever made IMO. I have two in the 5.1.1 gear ratio for anything that dives deeper then 8-9 feet. I haven't used the Lew cranking rods. The lews rods I have used though, I haven't been impressed with. They all seemed a bit stiff. Hope that helps.

    I recently picked up the MP for my crankbait rod. I was using braid-leader, but decided to change to straight fluorocarbon this year. I had a Pro Qualifier 2 and would only backlash due to user error. I can not cast the MP without a backlash even with both brakes set at max. Any tips would be great.
