Is it just me or does anybody else feel that Roger Glover doesn't get the credit he deserves? One of the most underrated and influential Bass Players in Rock
Just looking at the comments here, & I thought to myself that there are MANY MANY bands that have had "In-band feuds" that broke up the original lineup. Still, alot of those bands continued to go on with a new member, & I'm glad they did. The same goes for Deep Purple, I saw them once with Ritchie, & twice without. I really enjoyed each of those concets & all the songs they played. I love this song & it sounds Gr8 to me. That's all that really matters. Besides, Ritchie has done some Gr8 stuff since he left, so.... I don't see this as a bad thing. It happens a lot in the world of R'n'R - either someone leaves, OR dies too early, & a replacement is found, & they continue. I'm glad that DP did, 4Sure!! Of couse the new member gets compared to the old one, & some peope just DON'T LIKE IT. But I do, & as long as the new person isn't BAD, just a different kind of style, I have no problem with them & are willing to give them a chance. I think this song is GR8 with/without Blackmore. The 3 shows I've seen were ALL Fantastic to experience!! I also have to imagine that it may NOT have sounded as good if Ritchie WAS there, but was feeling upset about NOT having left, & not enjoying his time on stage with the band anymore - esp if they were constantly not getting along in a personal way backstage. Who knows? I'm just glad they DID continue to play without him. I know there are people who feel the opposite way that I do, & we ALL have different faves, as we are all different people. I'll end by saying Cheers, & LONG LIVE ROCK'N'ROLL!!
@nookiebroon4424 They all liked him cept for Ritchie. Jon Lord was devastated when he left because they were at their peak and would be until Ian's voice broke around 1980 but he left in 1973. They had already surpassed other groups from 1968 to 1974. GBOAT
Caught them on that Tour at the Cow Palace Arena in January. Blackmore was god that night. Also caught them back in '98 at the Warfield Theatre,San Francisco. The band was on fire that night, and Morse melted the place to the ground!
Peso, talento, músicos excepcionais, grande vocalista...Deep Purple, lenda do rock, precursora do Hard Rock! Espetáculo de banda! Amazing! Hug from Brasil 🤘🥁😃
@@GregoryBoyko About 20 years ago, I played in a band of parties and ballroom dances, where the singer held 4 hours singing all styles of music ... of course throughout the show there were some instrumental songs, such as tangos and waltzes!
I agree 100%!! Also, I've heard "Smoke on the Water" on the radio at least 10x as much as this song, but that doesn't mean that it's better!! I DON'T think "SOTW" is their best song by a wide margin, & this IS a much better song. In the last 40ish yrs that I've been listening to Deep Purple, this was the 1st song I REALLY liked, & still is today. I feel like if I hear "SOTW" 2-3x/yr, that's good enough for me. Their most FAMOUS song doesn't = Their BEST song. Peace!!
Abraço do Brasil. ✨☀️🫂 🇧🇷

I have a feeling that Roger G had something to do with this song. The lyrics anger me, but not the literal meanings. DV DODDS just thought the same thing
I thought the same, he is a great bass guitarist...
As an old bassist myself, Glover has always been one of my heroes. I copied quite a few of his licks!
He and Geezer Butler were the main reasons I started playing bass.
Yet I share your opinion: He is definetely very underrated, also as a producer.
Very much so. Amazing player.
Glover just mesmerises me. No other bassist except "The Ox" has that power.
JE, John Paul Jones, etc.: Acoustic Cornerstones!
Immer zeitlos
Will never forget , this was my very first song of Deep Purple , then i felt in love with them .
The same for me.
One of the first rock songs i heard in my life, and never was more the same..
Highway Star for me.

Well Said
Music like that never comes again,
You can't deny that is a awesome voice.
Correct, but you should hear what his bandmates from Gillan really, really think of him.

Saw them in 76 with Tommy Bolin and the blew the place out!
Ian Gillan : a great rock singer !
Anne van Lith the best
Agreed. He doesn’t have the growl like on the album, but he knows how to control his voice during a 2 hour concert!
What about Robin McAuley?

Who Do We Think We Are is my favorite DP record.
Saw DP 4 times. Never a bad show and they had the best backup bands like SAVOY Brown, ELO, Nazareth then Lynryd Skynryd and Nugent.
I saw them twice. They were LOUD!
I have this DVD and it's the best $10 i every spent!
