Some confusion ( but I will watch again), #1 is the fan controller just a relay ? #2 how does the violet wire control the fan, what does it do other than just brining a signal from the computer ? Is it really a controller? Is there a resistance in the wire or connector that makes it a 'controller wire' ? #3 doesn't the computer need to first receive a signal from a sensor ( like the coolant temp sensor?) before it sends a signal, to the fan controller, right ? This is all new to me but I am having issues with Ram PM Van 3.6L gas and can not afford how have someone fix it. I am seeing people say $1,500 and a lot more for maybe a bad wire, relay, module or the like, that I could possibly fix myself for a few hundred or less. Thanks !!
If i can learn enough that I could help others fix their vehicles also that can not afford to take some place, that would be a huge plus for me ( not for my ego, but doing something we all should be doing, helping others). My added 2 cents.
Wondering Why on this model, the fan module is part of the fan assembly, the ECM receives the input from the ECT then sends a command to the fan module to turn on the fan! but some fans are just controlled by relays! you need to find out how your fan is controlled!!
Hi! I have a 2011 Ford Taurus SEL and i’ve been having the same issue where my fan stays on until battery dies, I replaced the Temp Sensor and also the Thermostat. My 2020 Chevy Trak is having the same issue...I have to have it towed to the shop. I just want to be educated before having my vehicle tow to the shop..I also just had a new battery installed a week ago.
@K Diagnostics sorry. When you disconnected the coolant temp sensors, was the car running or turned off? Also, for the fan control module, running or off. Thanks
I was thinking only the defective fan module needs to be replaced, which means to order only it from the dealer but you decided to do the whole fan, what is the motive? From South Africa
I have a 2010 for fusion when i turn my car off ! The fan runs for over 10 minutes then it stop but when i turn the car back on it kills the battery tell the point were i have to get a jump ! Is this the same issue?
@@budandkickstv yes, follow the steps in the video to figure out what's wrong with your car, most radiator fans are wired the same way, you either have a control module on the fan or a Relay... but start by testing your coolant temperature sensor first. Good Luck!!!
very informative. for me, my module did not work at all. so i disconnected the ECT. The fan came on. i was told this is a fail safe. when i plugged the ect back in, the fan kept running. i will get a new fan/controller at scrap yard. it will tell me if i fried the computer too
How are you K diagnostic? I am working on a 2011 Suzuki SX4 when I press on the gas nothing happens it’s not accelerating I scan the car with a harbor freight scanner it gave me 7 different code now I don’t know where to start any idea will help thanks .
What should possibly be the problem in this matter. I was driving my Mk5 and the temperature warning show up on the dashboard , with STOP! CHECK THE COOLANT. I comfirm the water was little and added. But from there just when the engine is turned on, the temperature rise to 90.c and the fan couldn't go off while the engine is running however no warning light is showing on the dash board
Good afternoon, I watched your video, my Volvo V70XC 2001 turbo, my fan has a fault. When the car is cold, I turn the ignition ON or start the car, the fan turns on at a low speed. When I turn off the car the fan turns off. But when you turn it on or turn it on, whether hot or cold, the fan turns on and stays that way until you turn off the car. Before watching your video, I bought another fan complete with its module and the same failure. I did the test in your video and disconnected the harness with the cable alone, the color violet and the fan turns off, the two fans that I now have complete with its module turn off. Disconnect the temperature sensor harness and it indicates -40 degrees Celsius, but the fan stays on, does not turn off, What could be the fault? What do I need to validate to be able to solve it. Kind regards ALEX
Hi, Recently my Mazda 3 2011 had a similar problem with the fan staying on for about 2~5 min after engine off. Sometimes only a short distance within 10KM was driven, and the fan was still on after the engine was turned off. so don't think that overheating of the engine requires a fan to cool down. In your experience, think it is a fan control module problem, thermostat problem or coolant temperature sensor problem? My car fan control module it look similar like volvo, it made by Bosch as well.
Hello my friend I have the same problem in a hyundai getz 1.1 I check all wire the settings is correct but I notice fun close when I open heating. What you think to buy to try to clean refrigerator or the problem it's bigger...
Uhhh, it should NOT run for 15 minutes after the engine is turned off -- seems like 2 minutes should be plenty. I think the replacement is doomed to fail the same way soon. Otherwise, good video thx
toyota corola,, the fan for the radiator and the A/C fan run when the car is turned off... not when the engine is running ,, im thinking the relay is at fault .. what are your thoughts ??
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair AE92R toyota corolla .. 10/91 build .. i checked the fan relays ,, plugs on the thermostat housing ..no change... hit the engine relay a couple of times .. and the fans turned off.. point to note ....30 year old corolla .. none of these relays have been changed since my now 81 yo mother brought this car ...NEW... pitty i cant send photos of the relay that caused the issue .. it was not the relay i suspected of having the problem... watching your vid from Australia ... thanks for replying ..
Great video! I'll be replacing the fan assembly tomorrow. Did you happen to notice what temperature turns on the fan and what temp turns it off? Thanks.
Hey boss, I have a 2012 Ford Focus SE that had a problem with the fan staying on for about 10 minutes after shutting the car off. It would kick on when I opened my front doors and kick back off if I didn’t start it. The other day my fan stopped working at all, so do you think the fan motor could’ve just burned out from running so much? I’m getting ready to trade in the car soon anyways, so I just need the fan to at least work and keep the car cool. I should be able to just buy the fan and replace that part hopefully right?
John Lee yes you probably have a burned fan but you should check the wiring first before you replace it, since you're gonna get rid of the car soon, you just get a used fan
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair alright thank you! What I’m gonna try to do is get some small jumpers to jump power from the battery to the fan terminal to see of it is dead and then try that on the one I’ll replace it with to make sure it’ll work for the time I need it to and replace it.
Thank u for the video but I have my car it has the same problem can u tell me where’s your garage at so I can bring my car to u so u can fix it thank u very much
My signal wire came out of the connector (with the clip still attached). Do you think I can just stick it back in or would I have to cut it off and get a new connector with a bit of cable from the junkyard?
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair Thanks for the quick reply! That's what I feared. The cable in question is the one coming from the ECU, not the fan module's wire. Probably going to end up taking it to an electrician as I'm no good with electrical wiring.
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair The wires going to the motor a crimped on to some metal tabs and don't look like they come off. The tabs go under the top cover, I don't want to destroy the motor. And what looked like a bolt holding the top don't think its a bolt.
Can you go back please, disconnect a coolant temperature sensor and test a signal to the fan control module, I want to understand whether the signal wire is giving the module a ground or a supply, I have got a same problem and when my signal wire is disconnected I get 12v on the side of the module.
Hey man, I just bought a brand new cooling fan to replace the broken one but I’m worried what I just bought is not working. After installing the new fan, how do you know if the newly installed one is working? I try to idle or drive the engine so the temp guage would go past halfway the mark but it never goes past the half mark of the guage and I never hear the fan turn on. How do you test the fan? I’m asking because I only have 30 days to return it if it’s defective. Thanks
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair I see. But would it need a signal from the sensor first to turn on the fan? How would you fake bypass that and just connect power to turn on fan just to see if it works?
@@kirklopez2031 yes, that's the quickest way to check a fan, if it runs after sending power and ground to it, then your problem is most likely the wiring or the inputs to the ECM or the ECM itself!!
Mine does the same thing but the fan assembly does not have a module on it. It is a 2008 Lincoln MKZ . Wonder where the module is located or if it could be another problem. Thanks.
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair First thing I did and it of course shut the fans off. I took it to Ford dealership and they put it on the computer. Nothing showed up. They consulted the manual and said it was the cooling fan module. It will cost $1,200.oo plus tax to get it fixed. The cooling fans are $624.00 and labor $600.00. The fans on my car does not have that module on it. Strange to me. I feel it is the fan thermostat control but I am not a technician. So I had to make the appointment.
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair Update of 2008 Lincoln MKZ fan module: I did purchase the FOMOCO cooling fan module(two fan unit) from the dealer n Huntington WV who had to call to PA. to find one. Said it was an almost obsolete part(hard to believe). Anyway it cost not the $624.00 previously quoted but $724.00. Guess the Yes Ford dealership had to make money making that phone call for me to order it. I received it this past Friday and I installed it on Saturday. Saved myself $600.00 installation fee. It took me one hour to install it. I guess the dealerships have to feed a lot of people to charge what they do so $600.00 per hour is not bad if you can get it. The fans I saw on line like the one I purchased from the dealer were around $250.00 but did not come with a 2 year warranty. Guess that is why the dealerships can charge around $500.00 more per item than what can be bought on line. Dealerships are a huge money making machine. I am glad I got it fixed for less then the dealership told me it would cost. Thanks for all the information .

Kit please, do you have any experience with the case when the temperature sensor is disconnected (the sensor connector is removed) and the fan is still running. I can't stop fan unless I take off the motor relay from the fuse panel. By the way, let me say that the engine shuts off when I connect the MAF sensor, but it works if MAF sensor is disconnected. Habati 65 Thank you!! I didn't fix the old fan, I got rid of it, the fan is brushless

Was the car turned off during this video? Did you get it to running temp, then do these tests? Or was the car running? Thanks
Tats Nstuff I got it to operating temperature before doing the tests

Disconnect the temperature sensor harness and it indicates -40 degrees Celsius, but the fan stays on, does not turn off,
What could be the fault?
What do I need to validate to be able to solve it.
Kind regards
ALEX

Hi, Recently my Mazda 3 2011 had a similar problem with the fan staying on for about 2~5 min after engine off.
Sometimes only a short distance within 10KM was driven, and the fan was still on after the engine was turned off.
so don't think that overheating of the engine requires a fan to cool down.
In your experience, think it is a fan control module problem, thermostat problem or coolant temperature sensor problem?
My car fan control module it look similar like volvo, it made by Bosch as well.
macoo macoo you should check the sensor first and make sure it's reporting the accurate temperature to the ECM
Do you have to disconnect the battery, b4 you disconnect the control fan module.

Great stuff! Keep up the good work!

Vidyamancer getting an other connector from a junkyard would be your best Bet!!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair Thanks for the quick reply! That's what I feared. The cable in question is the one coming from the ECU, not the fan module's wire. Probably going to end up taking it to an electrician as I'm no good with electrical wiring.

Could a Bad Temp sensor exist, even if get temp on Dash? 2014 Jeep TRailhawk 3.2
tigersaver yes, some engines have 2 temp ensors, one for the gauge on dash! and the other for the ECM!
Can you just replace that controller? I tried to remove the wires from the fan motor and it didn't seem like a simple disconnect.
Murray Madness you should be able to disconnect the electrical connector!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair The wires going to the motor a crimped on to some metal tabs and don't look like they come off. The tabs go under the top cover, I don't want to destroy the motor. And what looked like a bolt holding the top don't think its a bolt.

Thabang Mokhele disconnect the module and see what kind of signal you have there!
It’s been like this to my 2014 X-Trail
@xClaydogzx your issue might be a defective fan module, but recommend you have it diagnosed by a pro mechanic!
Thanks
Kirk Lopez you can send power and ground on the big wires on the fan to see if the fan will come on!
