I personally find the restraints comfortable, but maybe that's just me

No I agree it does not bother me it bothered my mom but that could just be her besides they get you in and out fast
When I went on xflight I thought that the restraints were not squeezing me but I wasn’t loose I don’t get why people say that the restraints sucked maybe that’s just because they fixed w(en I last went on

At the break run it’s so hard to breath because it gets so tight!
Fun fact - when the ride originally came out - the yellow structure that you fly through used to mist you with water! It was kind of a refreshing experience on a hot day!
I just rode this in October of this year and I actually don't know what you're talking about regarding the restraints. I found them surprisingly comfortable and they didn't seem to take away from the ride experience like I THOUGHT they would after riding Gatekeeper its opening year. X Flights restraints may have felt a little more snug at the end than where they were at the beginning of the ride, but they never bothered me. Gatekeeper's restraints completely ruined the ride for me. They were not as cushioned, they were uncomfortable and dug into your collar bones the entire ride, and that pain was enhanced while waiting at the brake run. I believe it has gotten new restraints since I've been on it, so I might have a similar experience as I did on X Flight if I rode it again.
Could feel tighter or looser depending on your body structure.

The first inversion is called a dive drop not a wing over drop.
2:41 six flags great America being my home park at first yes that's completely true, but ever since 2017 I think they padded the restraints with this soft pillow like material, and it felt so much better so I think it made the ride 3x better

For me, the only time the restraint is really a problem is after the ride when you're waiting for the other cart to leave the station and you're just sitting there. When you're waiting for the ride to begin, the chest restraint is very flexible and doesn't put any pressure on me at all, but it feels like it locks DURING the ride. I never notice it during the ride but once you're waiting in the station to be let out, it is pretty bad. Honestly, I give this ride a 9. One of my favorites in the park.
It locks into place right as the train dispatches. I don’t see how there’d be any safety issues with the vest being flexible during the ride since you’re not in a flying position like Superman.
More wing coasters in six flags would be good, but what I don't want is for six flags to clone X flight. I don't want it to be at the other six flags like the batman the ride or the 4D free spins.

The point you made with the restraints is kinda weird to me. I never have had a problem breathing on it, and my friends and family haven't said they have had breathing problems.
Same bro everyone thinks it's a big issue but I have gone on this ride 8 times already once I got on three times in a row this ride is great I mean yeah I see what they mean about the restrain but it's really not bad at all and besides I don't even notice it I guess I'm just having a lot of fun

It's bad if it locks down, makes it very hard to breath by the end of the ride. I go to SFGAM all the time... while I love the ride, this is the biggest negative/ distraction for me about this ride.
The Swarm doesn't have this restraint issue and was the World's second wing coaster. That's very odd.

I don't have any issues with the restraints until after the ride. I don't know exactly where they lock up on your chest but it isn't that bad during the whole ride.
I rode this thing over 40 times this past summer, and those restraints, no matter how much you try to loosen them before the ride starts, will always mess you up at the end. Not so much my chest for me , more my hips, but honestly it really does take away from the ride experience.
On another note, I was at the park the day you filmed this but didn't get the chance to meet up with you, and I was pretty upset about that. Hope you enjoyed the park!
I actually enjoyed this better than Gatekeeper. The near miss elements throughout the entire ride and lack of a brake run are just awesome.

FINALLY SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS THE RESTRAINT PROBLEM ON THIS COASTER!! I barely ever ride this because the vest restraints are so painfully tight!

I totally agree. I hated the feeling of the restraints on the break run. And, I do love the layout! Better than gatekeeper! The inline twist is super fun.
IMO I've ridden it and the restraint issue is really only noticeably when you hit the brake run. Maybe its a bigger issue in the back row but since I usually ride near the front it isn't that bad.

I just rode this for the first time today (first time at great america tbh) I thought it was amazing. It happened to be the first thing we did and everyone in my group had an absolute blast on this thing.

Yeah, when you talked about the restraints, I can totally agree with you. (SFGA is my home park) the restraints actually are not that bad in the beginning, but as you move along the track, the restraints start to get tighter. It's because the force of the coaster pushes the restraints further down (especially he helix at the end).
And also, I didn't really find that the restraints hurt my chest. They really just hurt my thighs at the end.
I just rode x flight for the first time today and I completely agree with u on the restraints. I enjoyed the roller coaster and the restraints arent as bad during the ride but it's waiting on the brake run that horrible
I love this coaster and I know the reasrains can hurt a bit but it keeps u very safe and I love this coaster and I thinks it's awesome
I love how perfectly X-Flight fits in it's area. It's an extreme ride and fits in it's area and that's one reason I love it. Before X-Flight there used to be a Car ride (Great American Raceway) and a water ride (Splashwater falls) and both are sadly gone 😕 but they fit a badass winged coaster in its place. I wish X-Flight could have a higher score. Most of Six Flags Great Americas coasters are ranked as just....Great. I wish people saw it's coasters as fantastic coasters overall. There always seems to be a problems like: X-Flights problem - the restraints. Goliaths problem - too short. Raging bulls problem - Too old. BTR's problem - layout was copied and pasted. SUF's problem - is a copied layout. I think I get my point now
My favorite part of this ride is the first drop on the left side. But i do agree on the restraints, the grey part on the restraints crushes your chest. But i guess it helps you feel secure lol

Yeah I have a problem with the restraints too! Like when you're in the station and you have the rest on, it's not tight at all but then you get to the brakes part when you pull into the station. If you even try one bit pulling yourself forward it hurts like heck.
X-Flight is one of my favorite coasters at Six Flags Great America (home park)!

I think the restraint problem was first fixed on Gatekeeper. GK had the same problem originally, but Cedar Point worked quickly with B&M to come up with a solution. I believe most of the original wing coasters have had this fix applied but for whatever reason Six Flags Great America hasn't done so.

I had the same problem with the restraints on Wild Eagle. It seems a lot of people had it on Gatekeeper as well, but I never experienced that. Thunderbird, I've never heard any complaints about the restraints
I agree. I just sent last weekend and the restraints made me feel like I was breathing underwater.
This looks like possibly the best non-launched Wing Coaster, up there with The Swarm

Gatekeeper’s theme is the front gate.
Gatekeeper's restraints did that in the beginning but feedback prompted them to change them out for the less restrictive vests

its weird how similar this ride is to the Swarm and yet there are no issues with the restraints on that. I actually think the swarm is one of the comfiest rollercoasters
X-flight is the definition of a B&M rattle. I went on it yesterday and it was so bumpy!
I once rode on it over 10 times in a row, mostly in the last row and I thought I broke my collar bones by the 5th run but kept going on it since there was no line. I was feeling sore for over a week. Hahaha
I think they might have fixed the restraints this year but it's developed a rattle in the back row right before the tower
To help with the shoulder restrains stick out your chest a little bit while they pull the restrains down, then put it back in to make it more comfortable.

Drummermattk I wouldn't recommend a GoPro for filming off ride footage. Like you said, it'd be better to just use your phone.
I would assume that when Six Flags can afford B&M coasters again, hopefully we could see a couple more wing coasters. I could see SFOT getting a wing coaster (don't know if it'd be a clone of SFGAM's X-Flight, or something original), and could see it going in the Amphitheatre area behind New Texas Giant and Titan, assuming SFOT is looking to phase out that attraction. SFMM would be unlikely to get a wing coaster, since the Southern California park already has X-2 4D coaster, which is similar to wing coaster. I could see SFGADV and/or SFNE being other wing coaster possibilities later on.
With competing chains... Cedar Fair, I could see Carowinds getting a wing coaster eventually, but it'd be something original and not a Gate Keeper clone (since Cedar Fair doesn't seem real big on cloning coasters), or Carowinds could be a candidate for B&M or S&S 4D coaster (along the lines of X-2 and Eejanaika coasters).
x flight's dispatch times are long too, but my biggest problem is, like you said, the restraints. they lock up at a certain point in the ride and sometimes it gets so tight on me that it starts hurting my hips. in my opinion though, x flight is one of the better coasters at great america, so despite the restraints i still like to always ride it when i go.
Hey Taylor, I noticed that in your top eight wing coasters, X Flight was ranked higher than Gatekeeper, but in this video, you said that you prefer Gatekeeper. Which one do you really think is better? I’ve been on both, but I can’t decide. Also, keep up the great content!!! 👍
I worked at xflight. What happens is when your going into the main brake if they don't lock then you have a greater chance of injuring your self. It's a safety measure more then anything
I felt horrible for someone once in this ride I was waiting in line when the person in front went to get on but the girl was told she couldn't ride because you couldn't fit in the seat cuz she was to big....
3 years ago I went to go on this ride but I was to big probably was me but now 95 pounds gone and I'm ready to get on with no problem
I LOVE X-Flight! As an enthusiast, I rate this ride a solid 8 as well. I think this is the most themed ride at Great America, and one of the few original named rides as well.

I rode X-Flight a total of 8 times when I visited back in 2014 and I didn't notice the restraint thing at all.
The restraints actually aren’t bad it’s just that the negative g’s make the restraints tighten so it starts off fine actually
I felt that chokey thing on Gatekeeper and Valravn.
I didn’t have a problem with those restraints I rode it 10 times in a row and immediately pulled it down the are very comfy but I kinda wanna see it with old school restraints
from what I've heard the near Miss tower was actually taken from O'Hare airport.
You mentioned that the name "X-Flight" is a little mysterious, and that in the station you hear the voice of what sounds like an officer or air force pilot. That voice actually belongs to the late rapper DMX. That's why it's called X-Flight.
Ive yet to ride x-flight but I had pressure issues with the restraints on gatekeeper

I had the same restraint problem when I rode Wild Eagle.
I've never had the restricting problem and I've been on that ride for a whole hour when it got stuck
I like the restraints
I don't like zero-g rolls. They always bang my head. But the vest restraints prevent that. I've never been on a wing but I'm going back to Cedar Point after 3 years, I'm going back so I'm excited to go back on Maverick and try Gatekeeper which will be my first wing coaster!
I will be going to cedar point for the first time in August and gatekeeper will be my first wing coaster as well ;)

I'll ride my first one next summer, too! Mine will be Thunderbird at Holiday World. Holiday World is only six to seven hours away from me (I live in Southwest, Missouri) and I can't wait to try out the awesome coasters at Holiday World, plus I can't wait to ride their new ride for next year!
I have ridden X-flight multiple times since Six Flags Great America is not too far away. I don't have a problem with the restraints. The problem with the ride to me is that Six Flags plays the same recorded audio in the station which gets annoying after about 4-5 trains have passed
I'm from Illinois and I go there. And I think I would like how the seatbelts are. I like to feel safe😂
The vest restraints in general kinda dig into my pelvis bone X-flight and gate keeper more than othets
back right wing is my favorite spot on this ride cause you get close to the ground
i'm not a fan of the restraints at all too. really uncomfortable after the brake-run (but i usually felt it lock in after the drop)
also, i was just at sfgam not that long ago and it was actually rough and jerky. i have absolutely no clue why because it usually is a smooth coaster.
It only hurts at the end on the brake run I made a mistake on my first ever time riding this and put the restraints really tight and it hurt so bad
The restraints I feel are the same as gatekeeper cause when I’m on gatekeeper i can’t breathe and I wanna get off as soon as possible

Is this ride supposed to be like a sibling of X2 (formerly X)? They're both a part of the 6 Flags chain, both have X in the title, both have red tracks with dark grey supports, and while X2 isn't technically a wing coaster it's seats have a wing-ish design to them.

Xflights restraints do that and no other wing restraints is because it’s compact and super forceful on the helix making the restraints pull down

Once you started talking about the restraint problems at the end of the ride.... I couldn't stop vehemently saying yes. Those restraints are brutally tight afterwards.

But otherwise the layouts are completely different. Plus the stats are all different.
Well, I don't really see anything bad with this coaster! It's actually one of my favorite rides in great America! The restraints do not bother me due to me being extremely skinny.

While I agree with the restraint problem, I myself didn’t have it so bad. It does help that I’m a smaller person. Sure, it was tighter than others I’ve ridden, but it’s not as horrible as he exaggerated in the video.
Dose it just mean you have grandpa legs when you’re legs cramp up on a roller coaster. On x flight and the joker this happened multiple times.

I actually prefer Wild Eagle to this and I ride that etleast once a year and x flight is at my home park. But that's just me. Also can you do a Raging Bull at SFGAM review soon?

i disagree with the restraint problem,this is my home park and still is i rode this thousands of times the restraints to me are now softer more comfortable and still safe
