The term “giga” “hyper” “mega” and “strata” has no meaning outside the USA as everywhere else uses the metric system and the height marks for all those categories are quite arbitrary when converted to meters and don’t make sense.

i feel like the launched coasters are all the rage nowadays, especially those that are lower to the ground. Maverick at Cedar Point proved you can make an amazing ride without it being a record breaker.
Gigas also take up a ton of room as well, and a park like cedar point is packed with rides and coasters which most likely would deter them from just shoving another giga in the park and taking out a bunch of other rides.
There’s only 2 reasons why a park would build a giga. Reason 1 is to try and get some attention in the “tallest/fastest” category. That’s a silly choice because A) Stratacoasters are a thing and B) i305 taught us that no matter what you build, it HAS to appeal to the GP. Reason 2 is because you need that kind of momentum to pull off later ride elements. This is also, at this point, silly. LIMs and other launches are becoming so cost-effective and reliable that if anyone nowadays needs 90mph of speed, they’re much better off doing it with a launch. They take up less space. They’re infinitely cheaper and easier to construct. At the end of the day. If you need to be tall, you probably aren’t building a giga. And if you need to be fast, you’re probably doing it with a launch.
If the ride itself reaches 300 feet and not just the structure then yes it is. If it was 300 feet tall and had say a 290 foot drop, then no it is not, but if it’s 310 feet and has a 300 foot drop then yes.
I could see a chain who wants to make a large investment in a park (maybe like a Thorpe Park or something) building a Mack Giga. I would be interested in seeing their take on a Giga. Who knows.
Thorpe Park had to make pretty large negotiations even building Stealth which is only 200ft, so no chance for them. Heide Park actually had plans for one but they fell through so if they have the money, they could definitely go for it
I wonder if we will ever see any park anywhere in the world try to out-do Kingda Ka at Six Flags for "world's tallest coaster" or if going that high can't be done.
You would be a fun guy to go to a park with. You have the planning, money saving, and time saving tips with history and information on types of coasters.
Honestly I’m all for this. Personally, even though I do enjoy traditional gigas they get old really quickly. As someone who would regularly attend Carowinds growing up I remember thinking that fury wasn’t that much different from intimidator (the hyper that they built a few years before) other than being faster and taller (not to mention their cars and restraints are literally identical). I would rather ride a coaster with lots of inversions and other unique elements rather than a traditional giga that has none of that, and a giga with inversions would be the best of both worlds in my opinion.
We gotta get a giga at Dorney Park. I was told they’re planning on turning that into a high class park, probably to compete with Hershey. Would love to see a giga in Pa!
About the Worlds of Fun thing... CAROWINDS, the park with a mostly mid-tier lineup pre-2010s, got a B&M hyper and giga within 5 years. If Cedar Fair wants to grow a park, you know damn well they're gonna do it. I know Carowinds is in a special position - they've got a multi-metropolitan service region spanning two states with almost zero competition, and Paramount essentially left CF with a blank slate to work with there. I'm just sayin' though.
I love living in Ohio! On a weekly basis, I can choose which giga coaster I want to ride whether that be Orion or Millennium Force ‼️ I hope for other parks’ sakes that more gigas are added! But it also isn’t the most cost effective option and hypers usually can stun the crowd height wise. Most of my friends who only went to kings island used to be stunned by diamondbacks height. Even I was in shock at Diamondback’s height when I first when there as a 9 year old. So I’m sure the height of a hyper can really shock the average guest at most parks which just gives no reason to build a giga for most parks. Also, like what some other comments said, Europe has no reason to build a giga coaster at least in terms of being marketable. Being 91 meters tall is not nearly as significant and marketable in the metric system as opposed to 300 feet in the US system! I could even see large scale hypers like Shambhala being added at certain places that are up in the high 250+ range and resemble gigas but not have a 300 foot drop just because there really isn’t much incentive to go to 91 meters
Yeah it is nice living in Ohio so we can pick between which Giga to go ride, I haven't ridden Orion yet but heard its good. European parks can still market the Giga name, without bringing in the 300 ft meaning to it. Giga means 'Giant', so they can still use it.
@@kev492001 In mine and a lot of other people I know’s opinions Orion was kinda disappointing and didn’t feel like anything new so don’t get ur hopes up lol
TBH I like hypers more than gigas. All of the hyper or near-hyper coasters I have been on deliver a longer ride and it's not like they aren't fast. Plus hypers usually have a few more elements than gigas. Some have way more (Vengeance for example). Also the higher speed of gigas means that the pacing/flow/whatever must be slower, because you can only pull so many gs to get up into the next element. Imo there's a goldilocks zone for coasters that feel fast, intense, don't end too early, and have consistent pacing/flow throughout. It's 100 to 250 ft. Ofc there are good coasters outside that but they are much rarer. Lightning Run is about the smallest you can go before you don't have enough speed to get a ride of decant length. While anything over 250ft is really fast but has length or flow issues. "Giga coasters are too fast" is probably the hottest roller coaster take I have but I will stand by it.
No lmao the faster the coaster generally the faster the pacing that's how physics work. For example I-305 has pacing of about 100 ft/sec, while Steel Vengeance has pacing of about 60 ft/sec. Fury 325, a giga coaster more similar to Steel Vengeance, (elements higher off the ground), has pacing of about 90 ft/sec. Even if the elements are more drawn out to compensate for this, the faster coaster still will usually pull more forces.
@@GooseDuck-ft4ko I don't really care about average speed. When I wrote that comment I was using it to mean the progression of a ride, how fast it covers elements. There isn't really a good term for that. Besides, pacing is hardly a good metric for how fun a ride is. Formula rosa has an average speed of 120 ft/s. Steel Vengeance has an average speed of 78ft/s. But Vengeance has better flow, a better mix of elements. Is Formula Rosa 1.5x better than Steve? Hell no. Smaller, slower coasters can cover more elements more quickly, creating a more thrilling and dynamic ride.
@@nathonizamboni875 Yeah that's called layout bud. Not pacing. I-305 changes direction faster than SV and it's a giga. Not sure what you're trying to say here.
@@GooseDuck-ft4ko I305 has snappier transitions than SV but does not turn as fast. Baking changes can be fast or slow on any size coaster because roll rate doesn't depend on forces.

Prowler is to mystic as patriot is to banshee. Wof is a test ground for 2 of the last 4 coasters built at KI. The only ones that didn't fit that narrative were diamondback and orion.
I think that if rmc goes through with the T. rex model six flags might put Giga’s in their parks. However I only see this happening if they are roughly the same price as a b & m hyper. Even if a hyper is too expensive for six flags I think they will see a payoff and go for it
"Kondaa that's already almost there" it'd need to be almost twice as high to be a giga lol. I can't see it happening at a Walibi park to be honest. As you said, Walibi Belgium just got Kondaa. Rhône-Alps seems to be a smaller scale park and not really Compagnie des Alpes' favorite child. Walibi Holland's Intamin Megacoaster Goliath does have a Gigacoaster-like layout, so perhaps if it needs replacing a giga would be a fitting upgrade. Though with the height difference between a giga and Goliath, the upgrade might almost be too big, if you get what I mean. Maybe in the future, Walibi Belgium could add a giga to be the Milli to Kondaa's Maverick. That'd make the most sense if it were economically viable. Maybe Europapark could build one too. Btw, I don't know if you're saying "the parent company of the Walibi parks" because the pronunciation of Compagnie des Alpes might be hard. It is pronounced "come-pahng-yee days ahlps" with the "ah" pronounced like you're saying "ahhh"
I hope Heide Park gets Europes first giga. They have gotten so much of "Europes first/Germanys first" and there was a giga planned 20 years ago so it coooould be. + Merlin chain likes to set records, also visible in Coasters like the Smiler. I hope they work with Gerstlauer again to set up Europes first giga one time
Patriot is more of a clone of Talon, it's really nothing like Batman at all. And Prowler, isn't a Mystic Timbers clone, as it was built 8 years before Mystic Timbers. If anything Mystic Timbers is the clone just a more drawn out version.
i could see one of the busch gardens parks getting a traditional layout intamin giga if the next few years go well for them. It would definitely have more of a kondaa/hyperion type layout tho and they would go for the giga height level for the publicity.
Not a fanboy, but RMC absolutely changed the industry. After the 90s/00s coaster wars that were all about breaking records, RMC proved that bigger doesn't mean better and other manufacturers started following suit. I don't think there's any going back now. Parks know that they don't have to spend $30 million on a giga to get a crowd favorite that will keep people coming back for more. Breaking records just for the sake of breaking them doesn't bring the return on investment.

Kentucky kingdom: hold my generic brand beer
Gigas also take up a ton of room as well, and a park like cedar point is packed with rides and coasters which most likely would deter them from just shoving another giga in the park and taking out a bunch of other rides.
Who's here after the knott's giga proposal got leaked?
Coastoons “all the other cedars fair parks have a giga exept worlds of fun”
Valleyfair: am i a joke to you
Mans really gonna call Prowler a Mystic Timbers clone when it opened in 2009?
Seriously!
I want to see the love child of Silver Star and Blue Fire. That would be my ride of choice.
Valleyfair is a viable option people forget it exists and it’s owned by cedar fair. Or Michigans adventure
Dude I was at cedar point two days ago and milly broke a wheel or axel and I was at the stairs 😂
Geez, that hurt my feelings and I wasn’t even there! Do you live close enough for an easy return visit?
i love coming on here every monday seeing a new coastoons vid
Great video! just gotta say thanks to all you coaster youtubers for the great content.
Shuttle coasters aren't even Gigas so don't worry about that.
am i dreaming? i literally watched your screen rant video like 15 minutes ago and now i see you in the comment section of a coaster video? awesome!
If the ride itself reaches 300 feet and not just the structure then yes it is. If it was 300 feet tall and had say a 290 foot drop, then no it is not, but if it’s 310 feet and has a 300 foot drop then yes.
*cries in Worlds of Fun is home park*
Still a alright park though
A roller-coaster video is the last place I'd expect to hear bankroll but I respect it
We should call Coasters 500-599 feet exocoasters :O
I could see a chain who wants to make a large investment in a park (maybe like a Thorpe Park or something) building a Mack Giga. I would be interested in seeing their take on a Giga. Who knows.
Thorpe Park had to make pretty large negotiations even building Stealth which is only 200ft, so no chance for them. Heide Park actually had plans for one but they fell through so if they have the money, they could definitely go for it
@@robcoasters how about excalibur?
Just wanna comment to be able to prove that I was here before this channel hit a million :)
I wonder if we will ever see any park anywhere in the world try to out-do Kingda Ka at Six Flags for "world's tallest coaster" or if going that high can't be done.
the Kondaa rollercoaster is located in Walibi Belgium (south of Brussels). I rode it a week ago and it is awesome
You would be a fun guy to go to a park with. You have the planning, money saving, and time saving tips with history and information on types of coasters.
I rode Orion earlier this month. It was definitely one of my favorite rides.
I would rather ride a coaster with lots of inversions and other unique elements rather than a traditional giga that has none of that, and a giga with inversions would be the best of both worlds in my opinion.
love this lmao def subscribed. i wanna learn more about coasters lmao I love having knowledge ab this shiz.
I think we can see in the future more mega coasters because they do the same concept as gigas but cheaper
We gotta get a giga at Dorney Park. I was told they’re planning on turning that into a high class park, probably to compete with Hershey. Would love to see a giga in Pa!
The edit at 1:28 was an *instant* like and subscribe for me
I heard bankroll and I thought my music was going still in the background LOL
RMC about to make this video seem pretty silly
About the Worlds of Fun thing...
CAROWINDS, the park with a mostly mid-tier lineup pre-2010s, got a B&M hyper and giga within 5 years. If Cedar Fair wants to grow a park, you know damn well they're gonna do it. I know Carowinds is in a special position - they've got a multi-metropolitan service region spanning two states with almost zero competition, and Paramount essentially left CF with a blank slate to work with there. I'm just sayin' though.
i mean Michigan's adventure got a giga and hyper, i think ceder fair is just going to give them to every park at this point.
Hypers are good.
Rocking out to the WoF shame even though it’s my home park
Wof may not be a top tier park, but it's really nice, and we're lucky to have it in Kc. Now if they could just find enough employees to keep all of the rides open this year🤔
@@CMDR.Gonzo.von.Richthofen agreed!! I went on a Sunday in June and there were lots of rides not operating. Timber Wolf was down all day. “Marathoned” Prowler with a 25 min wait
@@patrickomeara3700 Yeah, it sucks. I really feel bad for non-season pass holders. Sucks to pay for a single day ticket, only to have your favorite ride down for the day.
Luckily, I bought my pass last year, and they're honoring it in 2021 due to abbreviated hours in 2020. I wouldn't be surprised if they do the same for 2022 due to limited operating days and rolling ride closures. Hard to believe that they can't find employees.
@@CMDR.Gonzo.von.Richthofen same boat. Bought mine during fright fest 2019 and they were doing a deal that it’d be good for 2020 too. So I was fine riding Mamba and Patriot a few times and leaving but if i were on a coaster trip or something it’d have sucked
Why'd he have to knock Prowler though? 😂
I think B&M won't sell any for a while, but Maybe Intamin would try their hand at a giga. Great video!
Bankroll starting when you mention Merlin? Great touch
Calling Prowler a "knock off Mystic Timbers" are fighting words... but not for me 😁
Prowler is to mystic as patriot is to banshee. Wof is a test ground for 2 of the last 4 coasters built at KI. The only ones that didn't fit that narrative were diamondback and orion.
The first half of their layouts are identical
@@Coastoons how can prowler be a knock off if it was built eight years earlier?
Clicking this vid after watching all the knotts giga videos
That brockhampton instrumental in the background. I see you bro
I could see some awesome gigas come soon
This guy likes sonic ost a lot! I love it as well!
Literally have no clue what the fuck a giga is but i love your enthusiasm
Rollercoasters in between 300-399 feet
Knotts was originally supposed to get Leviathan but I don’t think it’s ever happening now that it’s at CW
“millie is still an icon to cp to this day” is a weird ass sentence out of context bro
Knotts has no room…
Knotts: are u sure about that?
I think that if rmc goes through with the T. rex model six flags might put Giga’s in their parks. However I only see this happening if they are roughly the same price as a b & m hyper. Even if a hyper is too expensive for six flags I think they will see a payoff and go for it
i see you with the premier taste in music. shoutout bankroll instrumental 🤝
come on six flags make the golden bear theatre replacement count
Could CP be getting this Karnan/Cannibal gerstlauer Giga? Cause as you said... Damn I'd like to see that happen :O
Giga karnan giga karnan giga karnan
The chances of Cedar Fair working with intamin again are slim to none
Busch Gardens Williams burg appears to be building something over 300 ft considering they requested a new height limit of over 350 ft. Maybe a giga.
I wouldn't write off Energylandia just yet... They gotta build em all! 😂
BGT was rumored a giga out into the Serengeti a few years back, BGT doesn’t have any height restrictions
Six Flags seems to be changing their business model slowly, who knows what’s in store for them
this question got a whole lot more real after the fury 325 crack
Just thinking about a 300ft infinity coaster gave me a massive vibration induced headache
Video request: The roller Coasters of Australia
Not a fanboy, but RMC absolutely changed the industry. After the 90s/00s coaster wars that were all about breaking records, RMC proved that bigger doesn't mean better and other manufacturers started following suit. I don't think there's any going back now. Parks know that they don't have to spend $30 million on a giga to get a crowd favorite that will keep people coming back for more. Breaking records just for the sake of breaking them doesn't bring the return on investment.
I 305 is one of my favorite coasters ever so much fun!!
