I think a wingcoasters most important elements are: 1. Wingover Drop 2. Near misses 3. The incredibly slow and long heartline roll which many wingcoasters got at the end of the ride.
I actually liked X-Flights near miss/keyhole better because Gatekeeper I didn't even notice it because you went so fast through it, but X-Flight you go very slow through it and it feels a lot more like your going to be decapitated then Gatekeeper. I thing the only thing better about the keyholes on Gatekeeper is the fact that it goes over the entrance.
No airtime on the airtime hill? Left side front is all about the floater air time. Ridden it a good 50+ times (the Point is my home park), and have always been amazed at how much air time it got compared to the other wings I've been on.
I agree! I talk about it in a video I'm about to upload called Why Gatekeeper Is The Best Coaster In The World, and one thing I mention is the contrary to popular belief, that airtime hill gives some nice floater!!
I myself love Gatekeeper (it's my favorite coaster so far). but personally if you wanted to get airtime I noticed that the outer middle seats gave some rather nice floater airtime. just an FYI it's an inclined dive loop.
What chould go in place of the "airtime hill?" Vertical loop would probably be my guess. Or maybe something like a 90 degree stall to the right going into the big corkscrew.
Gatekeeper is amazing an the back is not forceless. It's just that winged coasters don't have track above or below them, creating a forceless feeling. If you closed your eyes, you would feel the force, it's a illusion.
First time I went to this park after five years of not going was back when this ride first opened. Just seeing the front gate and this coaster flying through it got me super excited to be there! Definitely the best entrance to a park. Gate Keeper is a gentle ride. I always recommend it to people who are a little intimidated by the bigger rides like Millennium or Dragster. It's a mild coaster experience in terms of thrill in my opinion, but still a great coaster. I LOVE this ride! So smooth!
Gatekeeper is basically a mid-day break coaster for me. After a morning spent on all the coasters that start with M plus TTD, my brain usually feels like it's going to explode, and I want a fun but gentle experience with a nice view. Not every roller coaster needs to be trying to blend the riders' internal organs. It's also a good last ride of the night, for the same reason.
I whimped out twice on this coaster last Summer. Going back in 2 weeks to finally ride it! My friend keeps assuring me its super smooth. Would be my first coaster over 100 ft and with inversions. Only 3 coasters I rode were Blue Streak, Iron Dragon and Cedar Creek Mine Ride
I love gatekeeper. coaster is ultra-smooth the keyhole elements are awesome the inversions are smooth. the overall experience of gatekeeper is one of the best I've ever rode
When I rode Gatekeeper in the summer of 2018 in the 4th row right edge seat, the bottom of it's drop felt almost identical to Millennium Force and felt to nearly as fast do to the drops clicking track and its high forces. For me this ride currently stands in my top 7 and is nearly perfect.
My favorite ride at Cedar Point...for now (pre-Steel Vengeance)...bottoms of the drops are actually quite intense but it is so smooth that people don't seem to realize how strong the g forces really are. Also, to get the best air on the airtime hill, hold your legs straight out.
Gatekeeper was my very first wing coaster, and I really enjoyed it! It’s been several years since I last rode it, but I loved the wing over drop and keyholes. My only problem is that I don’t like the vest restraints, as they can tighten on your chest.
The only Wingcoaster I've ridden is "Flug der Dämonen" in Heidepark (Germany). This coaster has a cool near-miss-elemnt, where you dive under a bridge. Under that bridge there also are nails, where you have a good footchoper-effect.
This coaster was built only 4 years ago and never has a line. Last time I was there I rode it 3 different times. One time they even let me just stay in the seat. I think this ride is pretty force less overall, riding anywhere but the back put me to sleep. I still like it as a coaster to end the day with.
I never had an issue with a bunch of people flocking to this ride first, last year on a Saturday in June it was a walk on all day, 10 minute waits tops.
My opinion on gatekeeper: It’s not steel vengeance or maverick but it’s a beautiful coaster. I consider it an icon of the park with the keyholes and the heart line rolls over the entrance. I see it as a solid coaster to cool off on.
I actually made a video on Why Gatekeeper Is The Best Coaster In The World, sooo maybe it is SteVe/Maverick..... But yeah in terms of my actual opinions, I mostly agree, although I would swap maverick with millie. 1. steve 2. millie 3. gatekeeper 4. maverick
Love the wing over on the left in the front. I have more respect for this ride and keep riding it the wait is usually low 20 min now that it's a few years old.
I loved gatekeeper when I went lest Memorial Day weekend! The only thing j hated was that the fast lane wasn't open for early entry. We had fast lane for that Sunday (2nd day of our 3day trip) and we got early entry all 3 days. We went up to the fast pass line and the lady said "sorry that doesn't open till the regular opening of the park"...slightly disappointed, we went to find other rides that were less packed up ended up finding out that they had only opened 2 rides! (Gatekeeper and raptor) This may have just been our experience..we only had early entry for 2 days because we showed up at around 11 our first day. I really hope cedar point does something about that..great coaster review btw
I actually love Gatekeeper. I think its the 4th best ride there. I love it because its a long ride and has some great near miss effects not to mention the current tallest inversion in the world.
Left side is much better. Especially front row. Because you are higher in the first drop and feel more force. When I first rode it I rode the right side. And thought it was a bad addition. Especially after Maverick. But the left side is kore enjoyable and I’ve grown to enjoy it. Plus it’s not much of a wait.
I love this ride! However, I do agree with you on the helix but the MCBR is only there to boost capacity. My thought is the "mid-course" run is the real ending to the ride and that helix is just the taxi track to the station, just at a higher speed than other coasters' taxi to the station.
I rode Gatekeeper for the first time a few days ago, and I sat on 3rd row, left side, outside seat and got a very smooth and floaty ride. Right after that (walk on lines) I sat right side 2nd row inside seat and got a very jerky ride and came off of the coaster nauseous
Gatekeeper is my third favorite ride of all time behind millennium force and diamondback. It's, my second favorite ride at cedar point, and I think maverick is the second best, but I like the experience of gatekeeper. A vertical loop would have been nice instead of the airtime hill, but I support the decision to put in the hill and here's why: Rougarou and Raptor, the two other B&M twister coasters(before Valravn) both have a loop or two. I think it's nice that not all the B&M's at the park have loops. Plus, I have ALWAYS gotten good floater airtime on that hill. Is it as good as airtime on Millie or diamondback? No. But it's still good. So I prefer the hill over anything else. Also, I don't think the ending is lame at all. It doesn't need any more inversions, six is plenty, and the helix is still fun. Some people say this coaster is forceless, and I'll admit that it is, but I like the fact that it is. It makes u feel like a bird flying through the sky. If give it a 10/10.
This, and Magnum Xl 200 got me hooked on roller coasters. I went here a lot last year, and I can tell you, the best seat on gatekeeper is all the way in the back, the left side, outside wing. Always sit there for the best experience. Also, Don't you think the airtime hill could be replaced with a stall?
My main problem with this coaster which I am sure would qualify for other wing coasters is that the vest restraints crush your chest and your waist. I was like dying towards the end of the ride as the vest restraints kept getting tighter and tighter.
I actually didn't have that issue any of the probably around 10 times that I rode this ride. I found the restraints to be awesome like I talk about in my Why Gatekeeper Is The Best Coaster In The World video
Theme Park Update There are way better roller coasters in the World than Gatekeeper in my opinion and some of those are in the same park as Gatekeeper like Steel Vengeance, Top Thrill Dragster, Millennium Force, Maverick, etc. Gatekeeper is fun, but it bring the intensity. Out of all of Cedar Point’s B&M coasters which are Raptor, Rougarou, Valravn, and Gatekeeper. I found Gatekeeper to be the most boring of those B&M coasters. And I don’t like vest restraints because I had the same problem on Valravn and I am skinny. The reason why I like Valravn more than Gatekeeper is because it gives me more of a thrill. Your opinion is your opinion, but I think that there are better roller coasters than Gatekeeper. My Step Dad even agreed with me that Gatekeeper was just ok.
@@mr.noride7226 Fair enough. In my Why Its The Best videos I don't actually agree with the opinions, I just take popularly Liked, or disliked coasters, manufacturers, and parks, and try to prove why they are the best, or why they suck. Personally though, I do like gatekeeper a lot more than most people. My CP rankings go 1. SteVe 2. Millie 3. Gatekeeper 4. Maverick
I've ridden this and x flight. I like this ride more. My only complaint is I've never had a short wait for this one since it's at front and nothing is really by it
I remember in one vide you said something about how the outer seats pulse or bounce a little. This is completely true. I actually prefer the outer seats though because that pulsing makes it feel faster to me
This ride will have a line up to an hour and a half before noon sometimes, but in the afternoon, when other Cedar Point coasters are having their longest waits, this ride's wait can drop below 15 minutes. It's very strange.
They have a winged coaster, inverted coaster and dive coaster. All they need now is a good stand up coaster like pipeline at SW and a flying coaster like Manta
I prefer the inner seats because I rode the outer ones and so much wind was blowing in my face which kinda bothered me. The restraints also kinda crush your waists. But otherwise I loved it!
It's not a exciting thrill ride to me...the thing I LOVE is the free feel of no track. Its gentle swooping and of course the iconic key hole is such a fun experience.
It's unfortunate that this ride gives me severe hip pain due to the restraints for some reason (to give you an idea, I fainted from the pain while waiting to go back into the station (which takes about 5 whole minutes due to having one too many trains in use). It literally felt like someone was sawing into my hip bones. The ride constantly tightened throughout its course, which didn't help...) I don't understand this because I'm a very small person with narrow hips...I'm not sure why the restraints dig into my hip bones. If anything, I would've expected there to be TOO MUCH ROOM between my hips and the sides of the restraints. Maybe it's because I'm short, so it's just where my hips align against the restraints? However this mustn't be the case either, because little kids seem to love the ride... Valravn hurts me too, although not as bad, and it has the same restraints if I remember correctly. I've read people complaining about the restraints hurting their collarbones or chest, but not hips :(
I'm kind of a coaster wimp. I haven't ridden much. Gemini, maverick, iron dragon, and blue streak are the only ones I've ridden at CP. I like over the shoulder restraints but I hate the feeling in your stomach on the drops. That's the main reason I don't ride roller coasters. Do you guys think I could ride this because every time I see it I chicken out because of the height.
Rode this the year it opened (2013) and I didn't get to go on the right side. just rode the left side twice. am I missing put on anything? I did enjoy this ride :)
I have ridden this twice. Frst time, I didn't really like it because the vest restraints crushed me. Second time I rode, I LOVED it! My advice is to hold on to the vest instead of the grab bars.
This is my 4th favorite coaster at CP, behind Raptor, Maverick and MF. (I have not ridden TTD yet, but I intend to) Gatekeeper is fun, but doesn't really stand out, with the exception of its front entrance appearance. It lacks the forces, the ending is pointless and it's generally overhyped... I still love the keyhole and wing-over drops though ;)
+Pikabutter25 Agreed. When I rode it about a month ago I thought the ending was stupid. The coaster is very pretty to look at but is very forceless. The key holes are amazing and adds some pizzazz to it. Still a great ride though.
Jude Demo Yeah... Wing coasters are nothing too special in my book. They sound amazing on paper, but aren't as good in execution. The rides only can do so much, the experience is not as good as a flying, or even an invert. They are the only coasters with near-miss elements though, so that's a plus...
This ride is great but probrably the fastest aging B&M ever made. I rode back row left side and the entire ride was extremley bumpy for being only 2 years old.
I like the ride but only in back row. The first time I wrote it was front row and I agree with all the usual complaints it was completely forceless and kind of boring. However in the back row I got really significant pull. I think I've ridden this coaster 4 or 5 more times over the years in the back and each time I got really strong pull. It actually made the ride pretty decent, although it definitely does feel like it's petering out over the second half. honestly the ride kind of feels done to me by the time you actually get to theMCBR. After that yeah it's a waste. Could've at least put a slow inversion in or something. 7/10 in back, 3/10 in front. Worth it for a short wait. I'm not sure if I like it better than the Thunderbird at Holiday World I feel like that ride is a technically better coaster but it just didn't have the same pull that this one did in the back row although I felt you got a better ride regardless of where you sat on Thunderbird then on GateKeeper
+Titanic Ship (Thomas beverick) i like disaster transport its rare as of now only 3 intamin bobsleds are left 1. alpine bobsled-the great escape 2. la vibora- six flags over texas 3. bob- efteling i have been on bob and i like it.disaster transport was good themed only they took out effects. and space spiral was amazing i gave a good view of the park
This was one of the more disappointing first rides when I went on it, it was good but I expected more rode back on first go, it’s not a bad ride by any means I just expect more.. would ride again for sure but idk why I just thought it was gonna be the best thing ever from all the hype videos CF and CP put out.
They are replacing the full ride. When it opens next year, it'll be smoother, have better trains, updated theming, and most likely a different launch system.
I think a wingcoasters most important elements are: 1. Wingover Drop 2. Near misses 3. The incredibly slow and long heartline roll which many wingcoasters got at the end of the ride.

So where's the key master? I got that from Gatekeeper Parody.

For me it is 4.5 hours away

A vertical loop would be my guess. It's compact land wise and is not too prevalent on too many wing coasters.
Huge vertical loop would have been awesome
+Pikabutter25 or an inclined loop
Norwegian loop.
I think the best fit would be a non-inverting loop like on Rip Ride Rock It

It's a smooth awesome ride, not too thrilling as in speed...its about the flying and love the keyhole...best park entrance by far.
Thanks for the review, Taylor! We really enjoyed Gatekeeper! We rode the front and back twice on each side, and had different experiences.

Gate keeper was the best ride at the time I rode it
I actually got some pretty good airtime on the airtime hill at the beginning of the ride.

I actually love Gatekeeper. I think its the 4th best ride there. I love it because its a long ride and has some great near miss effects not to mention the current tallest inversion in the world.
I rode it once in the first row and its amazing
Is the inside seat better than the out side and what is a point of a mid course break run
I think that this coaster has one of the best restraints of any coaster.

Rode this the year it opened (2013) and I didn't get to go on the right side. just rode the left side twice. am I missing put on anything? I did enjoy this ride :)
Is this good as a first upsidown roller coaster
my 2nd favorite coaster at Cedar Point BECAUSE i rode it b4 coaster boys hyped it up
I got airtime on that hill in the back seat.
I have ridden this twice. Frst time, I didn't really like it because the vest restraints crushed me. Second time I rode, I LOVED it! My advice is to hold on to the vest instead of the grab bars.
Left side, outer back seat. Best seat on the ride.
Millinueum Force review?
I'll give it 9.5/10
Hmmm it's force less in the front? That's where I rode it and It was just an ok ride.
i love that coaster my fav. EVER!!!
I call the “airtime hill” an airtimeless hill
Cedar point home park gang!
Yea
This coaster was fun, but honestly I prefer X-Flight's more compact layout.
Great review!
It's a smooth ride
I pearsonnaly preference the swarm a Thorpe park because of its cool theming
+CoasterStudios Great Video Keep up the Awesome work!!!
This ride is great but probrably the fastest aging B&M ever made. I rode back row left side and the entire ride was extremley bumpy for being only 2 years old.
When i went therse the gatekeeper was my fav
There's acutely 7 inversions a wing over drop, imlimen, cork screw, 0g roll, dive loop and another 0g roll
That's six
2:53 Birb 😂
which coaster is better gatekeeper or disaster transport
GateKeeper is definitely better than Disaster Transport was.
+Titanic Ship (Thomas beverick) i like disaster transport its rare as of now only 3 intamin bobsleds are left
1. alpine bobsled-the great escape
2. la vibora- six flags over texas
3. bob- efteling
i have been on bob and i like it.disaster transport was good themed only they took out effects.
and space spiral was amazing i gave a good view of the park
+Titanic Ship (Thomas beverick) Space spiral was crap they have windseeker.
*****
Gatekeeper isn't the best thing ever, but it crushes a closed in observation tower.
Daan van Wichen gatekeeper but I still liked disaster transport
Good review!
I rode it twice in the front on both sides, I did not care for the right side, but the left side is 100 times better.
Do this ride have seat for plus size people
I so want to go on Gatekeeper but I live in the UK! :-(
This was one of the more disappointing first rides when I went on it, it was good but I expected more rode back on first go, it’s not a bad ride by any means I just expect more.. would ride again for sure but idk why I just thought it was gonna be the best thing ever from all the hype videos CF and CP put out.
i agree the end sucks bad.....but overall a great ride!!!!!
That first drop though
does anyone know what they are doing to hulk at universal studios
They are replacing the full ride. When it opens next year, it'll be smoother, have better trains, updated theming, and most likely a different launch system.
+Coaster Studios OK thanks for telling me cause I loved that ride
