Your one in a million that actually just gets down into information and showing the process. Not self glamorizing and posturing. Your awesome man hope this gets to help people
Holley use to have lots of recommendations and tuning tips on their web site. Usually with a rebuild kit there are lots of little tips in the instructions as well. I've owned lots of Holleys and still have a whole shelf full of them. once you learn to tune them you won't want to run anything else.
Agreed. I used to have an Edelbrock and thought it was great and I guess I still do. I now have a double pumper and took the time to learn as much as I could about it (there's always more that I could learn though) . I've been running the Holley for over a year now and I love it.
Boy I tell ya, Uncle Tony is the freakin MAN. Straight to the point, no b.s., and the Holley on my small block is running like it should all thanks to this man here. Thank you buddy!
WOW, Tony. Thanks a bunch for bringing back Fond memories. Of tuning and setting up the normal Holleys and the Double Pumpers. Had a Large double on my 350 Chevy small block. After getting it in place and bringing the fuel in right. Would take my truck around the block and after setting every thing just right. My Truck would dance! Foot off of the Gas. Almost dead stop, just rolling. Tap the Gas it would jump forward again! Any good music worked. LOL Any Long Highway or Freeway traveling. Just cut the Gas out until before dying. Back a touch, then adjust idle to lower rpms. Best way to get better MPG, and save cash too. There isn't any vehicle that you can't tune just right with those Hollys! Thanks again for the video. And it looks like you had Fun doing it too!
Thank you!!! I obtained a 79 vette from a good friend on mine and it always ran way out of whack. I noted the original settings once you explained what everything was. I followed your steps and now it's running great! It used to misfire, choke on start ups, way too high idling while cold, etc. What a difference!
I had a tough time setting my idle mixture screws using a vacuum gauge because the cam I had at the time gave a choppy idle. My Dad came down for a visit and set them by ear. You guys are old Skool cool!!!
Uncle Tony, I enjoy the heck out of all your videos. Currently restoring a '72 Dart and a '78 Dodge Adventurer and your videos help me a lot. Really hoping you make the shirt "I am the computer!" I'll buy it!
we used to rebuild these carbs 40 yrs ago when we had a fleet of 460 fords. you are spot on when it comes to the external adjustments. we were always replacing the 'power valve', usually a eng back fire would take it out... the problem we had was that very few guys knew how to rebuild them & set them up. an old school mech showed me how & it wasn't that bad once you rebuilt a couple of them.. i was glad when they sold off those 460 fords though!
I can't thank you enough for that video, you helped me alot with tuning and my carb myself and saved me time and money... i searched a lot about tuning holley carbs but all of them includes tools and gauges that I can't find any where around me...
HAPPY Thanksgiving Uncle Tony and family! 🇺🇸🙏 Best wishes, always. Thank you for all your sharing. ❤ We are so lucky to be living in a time that provides us with teachers like you. Much appreciation from CA.
Just finished my 302 install that I talked to you about on live stream once! It's bored out to a 312 that's why I called it that during the stream. I got the engine basically running but my timing is way off so after I get that I put a basic carb tune like the one you mentioned here on it. Thank you so much for many great years of expert advice! I wouldn't be in the place I am today without your guidance
Old school is the best school. Appreciate the breakdown. Got one these carbs for free for my 79 camaro project and used to using edelbrock. Surprisingly simpler than I thought they were
Thanks for this video. I just recently purchased an 83 Camaro Z28 that had been swapped with a SBC 350, and have spent the last 2 weeks rebuilding most of the mechanicals from the ground up, replacing what needed replaced. I have it moving down the road now, but it needs some tuning, it has some hesitation when the throttle is mashed but accelerates smoothly if I ease into the throttle. I've never tuned a carb, but this video makes me think I at least have a shot at it. Holley DP 4150 is what I am working with. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for this video! I've been so intimidated to work on my Holley and the way you explained everything made it a snap even for an idiot like me :)
I bought a new Holley 2300 and installed on an AMC 304. I just didn't run right, so my son and I watched this video and followed the directions. Once we got to adjusting the idle jets it all felling place and everything runs great. thanks
Thanks U.T. Learned a lot there, I’m currently staring at the 2 bbl Holley that’s going on my 225 Buick. I’ve always had QJs or carters, with a little Weber mixed in. Thanks again! Will
Great refresher , as it's been , well lets just say I had hair way back then, in 1972, LOL and was tuning Rochester 4 Barrel carbs and some Holly's , Thanks for the video
Interesting information Uncle Tony, although the Holley Manuals can be jam packed full of Carburettor goodness, they can be a little vague at times. Wholly, I think the eagerness young blokes can be at fault here wanting bolton power - fit and forget so to speak - and wonder why they run into trouble for rushing a job they needed to take their time with. I believe the mystery of Holley Carburettor tuning is solved, so it makes more sense now. I did see and read an article last year where a double pumper was modified for street/bracket racing for aesthetics, power, metering and airflow, which was very interesting indeed. Thankyou for sharing this, Cheers :-)
Hey Uncle Tony, been having issues with my Holley 390 cfm on my checy 230 straight six. It ran like crap. Followed your tips and got to say the engine is smooth as silk now. Thank you sir.
Bought a 350 Chevy with a Holley. Leaked; replaced it with an Edelbrock that was laying around, runs great. Hope to build the Holley soon but looks complicated with the different cams, other adjustments and jet sizes. Rebuilt a Quadra jet years ago and it worked very well.
Was always told when I was a young man, only 2 men and god knew how to tune holleys properly.........well I paid attention to the one man I knew and learned from him, but I think I just met the god lol. Great video Tony, you never disappoint!!!!
Lol I was just doing this yesterday on my old bronco, idle was too high. My idle screw were way out but I think I got it close. Thanks Tony keep sharing the knowledge!
Great video Tony, back to basics. I hope you do more videos on the Holley as I always read on forums that "I had a 'brand X' and it ran like crap and I put a 'other brand X' on and it runs twice as good....I would never buy a ' 1st brand X' ...there garbage. Thank you for breaking it down! I just purchased an old square body Chevy truck that has one of these on it, and let's just say it is really out of whack right now. This will at least give me a starting point. Thanks again
People, usually under 40, ask me why I don't run EFI. I tell them you can't beat carbs for cost, ease of tuning and performance. Yes, it took me years to really fine tune my skills with carbs, but once you do then the cost and performance advantages really shine. Thanks for keeping the flame bright Uncle T!
Spot-on carb setup tips! Follow these directions and you should have Fuel injection-like drivability and throttle response. Maybe not cold start perfection but damn near it.
This has been an excellent series of tutorials. Even if you know most of the things covered it's still interesting... Thanks National Treasure... oh, and You too Tony...😄
Holleys are great for all the external adjustments that can be done, especially setting the float levels over other carburetors. But they are big with a tight fit in dual quads applications, can rupture the power valve easily during an induction backfire and have several places to leak. For all out performance they are top of the heap though.
Thanks so much for your videos. I greatly appreciate them! This seems to be an artform that this slowly disappearing. My girlfriend has her grandpas trucks (69' F-100) and it seems to start/crank just fine. We replaced the carb with a refurb'd motorcraft carb, since we couldn't get her accel. pump to stop leaking (even after a rebuild). It not longer leaks after the carb replacement, however the truck will crank, start and idle just fine- even without the use of the manual choke- but after it warms up (like driving to work), the truck will lose power and eventually stall. It won't run again until after a good 15 minutes or so have passed. We have spark- and the truck doesn't appear to respond to carb cleaner when sprayed. After it cools down though, it acts as if nothing has happened. I'm "new-aged" mechanically inclined- so I'm somewhat familiar with engines in general, but this whole carb thing fly's completely over my head. She wants to sell the truck- but it starts up and drives so good, that I believe that it's just a tuning issue- or something that happens AFTER the truck has warmed up, and goes away once cooled down a bit. Not sure why I'm writing this long post. I'll go back through from step one and see if I can't better describe the issue that we're witnessing and then report back. I'm sure we'll be referring to your videos until then. Thanks again for all your guidance. It's very much appreciate from keeping older vehicles from the yard. Joey

As a 22 year old just getting into carburetors, I second that. Know the basics but need more of the fine tuning aspect of it.
