I've noticed several comments saying Benjamin looked sad, poor Benjamin, etc. I disagree. He had a blessed life no matter how short. He was a gifted and talented musician. He had and has devoted fans, a handsome son, caring friends, a loving family and was very successful with women. I think he had a charmed life:)
Yes, he did have a charmed life for a while,but after The Cars broke up he had many difficulties. He took the break up hard and his relationship with his girlfriend ended soon after . He suffered from what we now know to be depressive episodes and he drank excessively. He withdrew and found it wasn’t easy to get his footing back in the music business. Such a shame for talented and beautiful (in many ways) man.

Everytime l listen to DRIVE it takes me back to 17 1983, summer time, but l was so crazy in love with Benjamin Orr & the CARS! Every time I sit down and listen to their songs it just takes me back too much fun and easier life, Thanks guys for making so many great songs! ♥️
I remember driving to the location the school I taught art for sent me, hearing about Ben's passing. I cried in disbelief and sat in my car in the parking lot, trying to collect my composure before entering the classroom. I just couldn't believe we had lost one of our generations' most memorable voices in rock history. He will always be among the best of a very long list. RIP Ben. A devoted fan who knows a true artist when he sees (hears) one. Ps. People who give something of themselves to others through their art, music or other art forms, and it's a long list of examples, are special souls. Many take for granted the things someone made from their passion. But you needn't reply presuming that these talented souls did it solely for profit. It is a well-earned benefit to the gifted artist that no one can deny. Ben, I hope you're in a better place and at peace.

Crazy cool dude. Anyone who can sing that well and play bass at the same time (Sting, Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, Doug Pinnick, the list is long) is an outstanding human being. I was hooked on the Cars from day one in the summer of 1978 (Van Halen's debut was also on my turntable). Watch the Rock 'n Roll HOF induction speech by EVERY MEMBER of the Cars. It'll bring you to tears because you can tell they were all choking back tears of their own. RIP, Brother Benjamin. I named my son after you. He's a pretty good-looking guy, too.

This is one of the best sounding versions of Drive I have heard. It is clear and the background music is not overbearing. Unfortunately the only concert footage of their last tour in 1987 in Philadelphia that we have on UA-cam is a pretty bad one. The stage is very very dark and the music is so loud especially when Ben is singing. Yet when Ric is singing we can hear him clearl?!. Also the cameraman did not focus on Ben very much at all even when he was singing, very interesting. I really wish we knew what the heck happened with these guys and why they really broke up!!
well said Kay....I believe shyness is often seen as 'negative,' 'a weakness'...but in Ben's case it was the very trait that gave him the sex appeal, and the connection to his true fans..........above all others.... In today's entertainment world, performers could benefit tremendously from studying the humbleness of Ben Orr.. If so, just maybe, some of them may be able to muster the talent to at least 'hold at candle' to his likes...But there will never be another quite like Benjamin Orzechowski

Benjamin Orr was the best!! I heard The Cars first album playing at our local BMX track in 1978, I was riding a Chrome Torker BMX bike in the 14 year old expert class. I walked around until I found who was playing this sonically cool music and checked out the.... eight track tape, and met two friends I've known ever since, by talking them into playing my two favorite songs "Your Just What I Needed" and "Bye Bye Love" while I was walking the track imaging and memorizing both songs while at the same time where I wanted to be on the track during the race "the fastest line" through the course so to speak.... I still know both of those songs perfectly complete with Benjamin Orr's unbelievable vocal inflection and each point where Elliott Easton walks into it. I can't think of another singer/bass player that did such an amazing job with their vocals, the guy was just plain cool, nothing short of the coolest guy on the face of the earth. Thank you for posting such an amazing tribute to Benjamin, its an excellent way to recall the life of a truly great singer and as I recall very humble, salt of the earth man. Rest in peace Benjamin Orr, you are not forgotten...
