      @@kitsune7771 from the look and sound of it I personally think it's C or D

    • @Kxgxyx
      @Kxgxyx Рік тому +3

      @@kitsune7771 It would be Key D seeing as Key D is deep and it sounds very similar to Wei Wuxian. Key C makes like a high pitched sound, unlike Wei Wuxian's Dizi. So between C and D, D is the best one to go with. I hoped this helped you.

    I was going to go for a European flute until I heard these, a much richer sound. I still can't get a proper note out of the thing though...I'll get there eventually.

    Thank you very much for this guide! I always liked flute but the only one I had was a recorder from my middle school workshop haha, but it was the classy yamaha made of resin. I heard the wooden ones and they are awesome jut still not the sound I wanted.
    Then I kept searching for anime songs and finally I came to know the dizi!!
    And it was EXACTLY what my ears loved!

    Another great video Mr. Mak! i just received my C key Dizi. I am currently using clear tape to cover the membrane, but I can't figure out the correct technique on how to blow it. Hopefully in the future you would have the time to make a video on it really appreciate it!

    I already play low D (Chinese low G) whistles by missing out the ring finger of the lower hand, so a low G would be no problem to me, especially as I play standard European French style concert flute. I already have two D/A dizis, but they tend to be pitched at around European A flat with my embouchure in the most comfortable position. I have two identical piccolo G dizis, which play perfectly in European D at A=440.

  • @johndurrett3573

    I didnt hear it mentioned, but i think part of the consideration of which to buy depends on your lung capacity. Blowing requires filling the entire chamber with air for there to be enough pressure to generate sound. The larger the flute, the more lung capacity and air pressure is needed. So starting with a lower C or D would seem advisable and after some time may choose to go with larger as skills and lung capacity increase.

  • @TayTayChan

    I have a c-key dizi. It also has a large space (for me at least) between the last two holes. I use my ring finger as spacer as you showed, because otherwise I simply can't fluently play without the finger cramping up. Before doing this I actually gave up playing the flute because it was so frustrating.

    • @TinYatDragon
      @TinYatDragon  8 років тому +2

      a C bass ? the alto C is pretty okay unless your hand is super skinny tho

    • @TayTayChan
      @TayTayChan 8 років тому

      It is an alto though.. I don't even have small hands, I would say they're average size. I think the problem is specifically my right ring finger which is very inflexible.

    • @TinYatDragon
      @TinYatDragon  8 років тому +9

      ah not flexible is the problem, I totally understand that. I have this problem too when I got my finger injured last year after moving my temple, too much work with the hand and my finger went numb and cannot move my pinky and every finger is affected, I felt so bad not being able to play the flute! I have a suggestion, try recorders, get an alto recorder and you can practice that to regain your finger movements and flexibility, and then you can do better with the dizi later on. It helps! Another good tool is the 2 metal ball, rolling it in your hand or palm, those "health balls" really helps when you do it right. 50x left and right hand daily, 3x session a day, after 1 month, you see a big improvement there.

    • @TayTayChan
      @TayTayChan 8 років тому

      Thanks for the suggestions, will definitely give it a go.

    I just got my d key dizi recently and compared to other videos I've watched for a d key dizi, mine sounds significantly lower. Ex: the first octave sounds a whole octave lower when I play it compared to videos I've watched. Am I playing it wrong? Is it the flute? I'm using scotch tape as a dimo because i don't have one yet so maybe that's why

    May i know whats the differences between copper joint and without the copper joint? i am thinking of getting D key purple bamboo flute without the joint. Is there any difference?

    • @TinYatDragon
      @TinYatDragon  7 років тому +2

      without joint is better, period, lol! With joint is only good for the maker, because they can use different bamboo together and also save resources and space for carrying, but without joint is much better - less likely to break/crack and seals the air nice and tight. But then, with the joint, you can pull them a tiny bit apart to do micro adjustments when weather changes and you "need" that little tweak.. however, to me, it's really not needed most of the time. I can only see the joints are where things start to crack all the time, very annoying. Love my big low G dizi, one piece, never fail!

    • @damianooi8261
      @damianooi8261 7 років тому

      Will get the purple bamboo flute without joint then... It cost more expensive than the white with joint =D...

    • @TinYatDragon
      @TinYatDragon  7 років тому +5

      because now they need to give you a real piece of bamboo and not joint 2 pcs of scraps together to combine into one. You see why it's more pricy eh?

    • @callmcr4654
      @callmcr4654 4 роки тому

      The distance between the holes increases because the whole instrument gets larger. A C-Dizi is 65 cm, a D-Dizi is 59 cm and a G Dizi is 47 cm, thats why the pitch decreases
