Its a rehearsal so its going to resemble a show. A full dress rehearsal would be 100% just like a concert. As you know no musicians just run out onstage and wing it. Its all put together beforehand. So yup as you said, a necessity. Getting it right. Prince was a hard working dude and great bandleader. Fantastic guitarist and overall musician. Wish he were still here making music and inspiring others. RIP

I literally go into tears when I see videos like this of prince.hewas my first favorite artist when I was kid at 12 yrs old because I understood his music so well.in the lyrics I felt the emotion of love and pain.and that made me a life long fan.loved all his music.he was a good person and did not deserve to die the way he did.alone.i never thought he would leave this earth before me.and for that I will be forever saddened by his death.

I listened to a podcast about Prince when he was making the Sign O' The Times album. Levi Seacer, Jr, the bassist at the time told a story about when he wished Prince "Good luck" before a show and Prince admonished him before explaining, "if you rely on luck, your shows gonna suck." That's why he and his band practiced and practiced...and practiced some more. They were mad asf with the long hours but His Royal Badness elevated their game. Respect!!!

The New Power Generation may have been better individual musicians, but no other backing band was as good as THE REVOLUTION. They were a perfect match for his music and the best at what they did. 🤙🏼

    • @wesleywashington1251
      @wesleywashington1251 3 місяці тому

Exactly. Wendy and Lisa complimented his sound better. They brought more of a Joni Mitchell sound to his music, I think. It was richer with them than with the NPG in my opinion. Wendy's opening on Purple Rain is the best example. Prince lost that beauty when they were disbanded. Besides, The Revolution was more visually stunning with pretty women performing onstage with him instead of a bunch of dudes. Glad the movie immortalized them before they were gone!! Whew!!

Just think how many more of these exist, since he started recording these everyday since 1979, or 1980 after he got his 1st video camera.
So there are footage of him rehearsing with Dez Dickerson & Andre Cymone, I think Gayle Chapman was already replaced by Lisa at that point..
Yes, there is a gold mine somewhere..
I wonder if there is footage of Prince opening for Rick James on his "Fire It Up" tour, & The Rolling Stones.
    That would b somethang 2C..

wow, 31:30 Erotic City is amazing! the solo he has.. love it! so much power to his sound.. feels like he is playing in a huge stadium already.. "fly" he says, "yea fly"! :) they did.. and i totally get why people said he was so fast on his feet and sneaking up on people ..literally out of nowhere.. I mean he's so lit! ..his feet and body moves are so sudden and fast as if the video is fast forward or sth.. his energy really spills into the whole space.. i love seeing him dance, he really feels the music through and through, very visceral for him..and when when doves cry comes on.. it sounds even cooler ..cause it is the basement and bad quality sound, but the song, the sound of it is just like hellou from another planet.. (i mean all his song are like that) but still ..so obvious it is a hit hit.. like the sound is just so different..the whole space just shifts..you can totally starts seeing the story and visuals the music paints.. and you are like.. yea! video maybe soon?!

I read your comment C.L where you said that you saw this after Prince’s passing.
Well I saw a version too - but it was a bit like watching him perform in a snowstorm and then followed by a blizzard! The sound was fuzzy too.
This version sounds and looks brilliant.
From this version, there is so much that can be seen in Prince’s later performances.
This is a very important piece of history - I would love to see a video of Prince supporting The Rolling Stones and one supporting Rick James.
    That is my Holy Grail.
As usual, thanks for the upload😊

I read an article by a man who did a study on Prince's music and he said that Prince's fans were on a different level and that we have a high sophistication in our taste of music.

It was a great time to be alive. I always say if you were born after the mid 70s you missed a lot of magic!! It's the one thing that makes me really appreciate getting older.

Calling ALL those that love really really love Prince for real! Prince said that he wanted to be recognized for his song writing more then anything else. Now hes been inducted into a few Hall Of Fame's but there's one he deserves to be inducted into... THE SONGWRITERS HALL OF FAME!!! And he was not inducted there! So I called over there TODAY there in NY I got this woman on the phone so I asked her in a very sweet tone are you guys going to induct Prince? She told me no that there only inducting those that are alive!!!! 😳😳😳😳😳😳. I told her then why didn't you guys do that 6 years ago before he died??? And she got pissy on me and said I gotta go!!!! WHAT THE FREAK MAN????!!!!!! So what if they ALREADY inducted someone and they die do they then un induct them after there dead???? WTH??? SO he died he STILL was a great song writer and STILL that man gets sh*t on STILL!!!!! He never got any respect from these sh*theads!!! I need you guys to get the number from that site and you call them and tell them you want PRINCE IN THERE!!!! I'm gonna keep calling them till they put that man in there!!!!! Call them guys Prince deserves to be recognized he was an outstanding writer that was the one thing he wanted to be recognized most for and he deserves to be there!!!! Please spread the word and lets honer Prince with getting him in there who's with me on this???

Exactly people keep comparing Prince to Eddie Van Halen or Jimi Hendricks. Its ridiculous!! They were only popular for their guitar skills. Nothing else. Prince mastered multiple instruments with no training. That makes him in a league all by himself. When I listen to songs. I don't just listen to 1 instrument. Prince could do it all. That's more impressive to me that one person could play all the instruments in an album.

Being ambidextrous that puts Jimi Hendrix in a class or HIS own Hendrix could play equally well left-handed or right handed. And still holds the world record for A guitar composer of The most timeless Hits. Revolutionized 20th century modern guitar and Eddie van Halen Is 21 Century. Prince of course ain't no joke either. But you do better not to let a bunch of couch potato generals Cross Up what you can learn from These 3 Guys. Fans turn into musical Nazi's and racist judge and jury when It comes to who's the best . I'm just feeling blessed to be alive during There lifetime. They All Made the Time exciting on earth. GOD Bless em All 3 Of em. Peace !!!

Consider the fact that Prince divided his time up between guitar, bass, drums, piano, singing, writing lyrics, producing, arranging and dancing and you realize how their 100% dedication to one thing is being compared to Prince's maybe 15% on the same pursuit. You get a much better understanding of why comparing their entire effort to his partial effort is embarrassing for them. This explains why people are reluctant to declare Prince the best on ANY instrument. They're much more likely to admit things like that now that he's dead though. It hurts fewer people's feelings.
