Thank you, with the clear picture of the G1000 and good audio it´s a very valuable lesson to watch. I won´t get to fly NDB approaches though, we´re not equipped.
Great job! We have very few NDB approaches in the states. ATC is ultra happy and chipper because he isn't in the air. Haha! Well done on the crosswind calculations!
Hell yeah, I’m a simple man I see one of ben’s videos I click, I’m starting my flight training soon and I’ll be uploading parts of it to my channel as well ✈️👍 Great video as always
This brings back memories 5 years ago doing these same procedures and approaches in the DA42. Safe to say I think I’ve completely forgotten everything since then 😅
Great video! Would be nice with the plate shown through out the video to be easier to follow. Just a small tip that works for me. When flying NDB holds, put your CDI on you inbound coarse towards the NDB. The dots will be your 90. So when the ADI is passing the dots, you're abeam. No need to calculate your abeam, and gives i little bit less work load and better SA.
I think if you’re at this level of flying you should be able to access the plates yourself to follow along, I just put it there for those who unfortunately don’t and it’ll just get in the way if left all the time. Nice idea with the CDI however you have to action doing that, which is the same of thinking about where the abeam position is and it’s only a quick bit of mental maths to do. I’d rather do that than mess with the system. Thanks for the comment!
Fascinating watching this. Love Diamond Aircraft design. I fly the DA62 in the sim for when I want a modern glass cockpit twin that feels like a Mercedes 🤣
Q from a fellow flight student: At 14:10, Minimum Turn Altitude is 2300 feet at D8.0, but you start the descent to 2000 feet in the turn >D8.0 and not yet established on the LOC. Why is that? Great video, cheers
Is it normal to Squawk 7000 at Gloucester? I'd be surprised if they dont have their own allocations. Alternatively, 2000 is now the standard conspicuity for IFR flight OCAS. Looked a tricky flight, well done.
@Plane Old Ben could you fly over Lydney!? :D Wow just as I posted that I saw you over Berkeley on the other side of the river on flightradar24! Or atleast it was the diamond. Ah different reg, don't think it was you.
Hi Ben, did I catch correctly that you did just 15 hours in the sim and 15 hours in the aircraft for the ME IR? I guess you were able to shave off a good few hours due to having had the IR(R) and done some real world IFR flying?
Just a question about identifying radio beacon; G1000 does it pretty well but you still listen to code. Is that a requirement of your training or just good practice?
@@PlaneOldBen Incredible work, I had no idea how much was involved. So busy in that cockpit, fascinating to watch, thanks for uploading it. You've come a long way since tootling down the Welsh border in the 172, congratulations. I hope the industry improves, and to see you at the front on one of my journeys sometime.
Turbulence, in the clouds, trying to hold speed, altitude and heading, all the while having to read charts. Can't see myself doing much more than holding on to a barf bag in these circumstances.

Probably for the best!
Well done Ben, that brought it all back to me. I used to be so tired after IFR training, found it exhausting.
Thanks Michael!
Really good video Ben! DA42 is such an amazing aircraft!
Cheers Zak, well done on your exams!
Fantastic video as always👍👍
Thank you Ben, good to see you’re back flying again!
Plane Old Ben it’s great to be back up👍
It's still sick popping out of the clouds with the runway perfectly infront! 💪
Keep smashing it with this MEIR content, keep at it Ben
Thank you very much, Fred!
Another great video Ben, conditions were exciting!

Great video Ben! That Gear alarm gives me nightmares haha
Good luck with your ME-IR I’m sure you’ll really enjoy it!

Missed series like these, great video Ben!
Thanks, Charlie!

Haha I’m sure you’ll get that knowledge back!
Great vid as always
Thanks a lot, Lewis!
Very impressive mate, looks v challenging!
Thanks Harry, hope you get gliding again soon!

You handled the conditions here extremely well Ben, wind is playing havoc with you but very nicely handled. Hope you're well 👍
Thanks CJ.
Nice one! Best wishes & regards from FRA
Thanks a lot!
Love your vids.
Thanks for watching!
Very nice! Just shows you need to be on the ball with the instrument lark
Thanks Charlie!

I was wondering the same thing, and he did that on either approachs ILS and DME. But overall he did a spectacular job, hell of a pilot
Nice 😎
Thanks for your in depth commentary bro 😂
15:30 ish, the doughnut on the left is GCHQ, if anyone cares :D

Looked a tricky flight, well done.
It used to be 7000, now 2000 you’re correct for IFR. Thanks for the comment.

Hey James, yes that’s what I did.
A very choppy approach had the exact same weather last week when I was flying however is the best weather to learn and practice in. :)
Cheers Declan, really nice you’re flying ahain!
@@PlaneOldBen Cheers Ben its great to be back :))
That’s quite the wind you’re battling with as well 😂
It certainly made for some training opportunities!
That flight simulator is really realistic
Doesn’t it just!
Just a question about identifying radio beacon; G1000 does it pretty well but you still listen to code. Is that a requirement of your training or just good practice?
I only listened to the ADF as if doesn’t automatically identify that.
I'm exhausted just watching.
Haha there certainly was a lot going on

Well any other wx on app should be easy after this!!!!
Certainly made for good training!

I think you build up a tolerance over time haha!
