but simple is one of the hardest things to do well. A great 'simple' hook is very hard to do. How hard something is to play or sing does not represent how hard it is to write.
Gene wanted to be a beatle, just like wicked lister, the band had no originality until they saw the glam invasion, the dolls, bowie, cooper, then Kiss was born
Why not Destroyer ? Another album that Bob Ezrin fucked up. Flaming Youth, Great Expectations and Sweet Pain ? Yeah, painful beyond all sense. Lorraine is too good for that overrated BS-album. Like the albumcover and the classic songs, though. But it's not even near the greatness of the Eddie Kramer produced, Rock And Roll Over.🔥🤟😝🔥❤️
The whistling is calming the doge. We need a compilation of remastered early Chaim Witz/KISS tracks, including the hits "I Love Eskimos," "My Mother is Beautiful," "My Uncle is a Raft," and "Life in the Woods (Wood Be Easy)". Are you listening, Eugene?
Drew P, judging by the lyrics, it sounds like old Uncle Raft is a constant source of inspiration and optimism. Uncle Raft is such a boon to young Gene’s existence that he could move mountains and probably hung the moon. That’s just me waxing poetic and buffing it out with metaphors. Or maybe he was just floating along with the use of illicit substances? You pick.
This video is pretty relaxing one and even touching. And the answer to the question of RabbiChaimWhitz is wait and see. By that I mean that may be someday Gene is gonna make another solo album with songs like these ones.
Both songs are so lovely! Very catchy indeed! Also Gene has a very beautiful voice, I prefer Gene's voice to Paul's, especially on the Elder album, which is my favourite album of them. I prefer Gene's to Paul's; Paul's voice is way too croaky.
*****...I know, even in the early 80's when the New Romantics, New Wave, Synthpop and Electronica, Post-Punk scene/movement did not care two figs about and looked down their noses at Hard Rock & Heavy Metal, which I noticed particularly in Europe at that time and among my New Wave friends who deemed it as underground, Limahl (Kajagoogoo) would be asked in a New Wave interview what he thought of that singer from Kiss, he responded that Paul's vocals were pretty impressive. Yet, I personally preferred Gene's as he could sing rather high without croaking.
Gene always had a great voice but Paul had a powerful, unique voice with great vocal range. Paul could sing raunchy, raspy and rough but he could also sing tender and smooth. Listen to the intro to Tonight You Belong To Me for the soft, emotional vibe and then just seconds later he rips in with a powerful, raunchy vocal. Listen to Nowhere To Run, the way he rips that vocal, very powerful and high.., and then he does a 180 in the middle bridge of the song to sing that gentle part. Paul was one of the greatest hard rock singers ever. He also learned great technique in the 80’s. You want a powerful singer, Paul Stanley was the man. I love Gene’s vocals too, though.
Oh, and listen to Paul’s vocal range when he hits those high falsetto notes during the bridge in ‘I Was Made For Loving You’. Another song where Stanley shows different dimensions in his voice is ‘Sure Know Something’. I could list many more songs that highlight his vocal skills. KISS’ great songwriting and Paul’s voice are the greatest things about KISS, even though they had a lot of other great things going for them (Gene’s bass lines, Ace’s solos, Gene and Peter’s vocals, Stanley and Simmons songwriting..especially Stanley’s).
Trippy how things seem so mundane as he starts the song, but as he sings with a little more force, here comes that famous, one-of-a-kind Gene Simmons voice, and takes this little tune to another level.
Take your shades off you're inside, cut de hair, get those feet off the table and SHOW SOME RESPECT TO YOUR FATHER AND UNCLE. Gene's been *BAD-ASS* enough and merits a tender moment.
my first time hearing Gene Simmons sing without his Kiss persona. To be honest, I'd listen to his singing a lot. He is actually a very soft-spoken man off-stage. He can sing folk ballads while we're all having coffee
It's funny seeing this other side of the demon, lol. And you're absolutely right, RabbiChaimWhitz. Gene should make another solo album with these songs on it. They're actually pretty catchy!
I know all the haters, but i like his genuine soft side with the kids - he puts on a good arrogant "act" for the press - but this shows he is human and Paul always said he could put together great songs but his lyrics were always terrible lol...here it shows. Lorraine has great potential - genes voice is great on ballads. Cheers
It funny how clearly you can hear his Beatles influences. Songs like ”Stanley The Parrot” or ”My Uncle Is A Raft” may have weird titles but are very well written. 👍🎶
Does enyone know the tabs or the name of the riff he playes after my uncle is a raft? Cant find it anywhere. He playes it alot when he is joking around. They also play it in the end of the unplugged version of "Spit". Any help?
"My Uncle is A Raft" is actually a really good song. In Gene's defense, he wrote "My Uncle Is A Raft" in 1964 at the age of 15. As corny as this song sounds, the rest of the rock n roll from that era wasn't much better.
Gene is great! His a great bass player and singer and who doesnt want to make money?!His son has a bit of a tude though but that will hopefully pass with age.
I think of my uncles on both sides of my family as many things, but a raft is not one of them. Also, if Gene wants to invest in something useful to slap the Kiss logo on, how about a line of chromatic tuners that clip onto the guitar's headstock? That way, he won't sound like an out-of-tune mess when he plays that acoustic guitar.
You are right JeffersonDinedAlone that I'm not a business major but after a quick Google search, Gene Simmons is not endorsed by Ephiphone which makes me wonder with all his money why would he play an Ephiphone when he could afford a better sounding and higher quality guitar?
Nick's reaction to My Uncle Is A Raft is just priceless.
Despite the simplicity of KISS's songs,Gene really is an excellent musician and you can definitely tell he was influenced by the Beatles.
He's a mediocre player but is a master at branding and marketing and kiss would have been forgotten long ago if it wasn't for him.
but simple is one of the hardest things to do well. A great 'simple' hook is very hard to do. How hard something is to play or sing does not represent how hard it is to write.
How can he remembered these lyrics from songs he wrote decades ago and never sang, but can't remember the lyrics to Rock-n-Roll All Nite.
Chris Armes Or lyrics of Calling dr Love
Chris Armes Alzheimer's most likely.
+Chris Armes You never forget your first.
He has a photographic memory
He hated that song js js, this song is one of the first songs he ever made he has emotional connections to it.
My Lorraine gives me somehow a Beatles feeling. I like it.
Probably because he was heavily influenced by The Beatles.
Its very similar to John Lennon's "Woman".
for me it sounds like Michelle a little bit
Gene wanted to be a beatle, just like wicked lister, the band had no originality until they saw the glam invasion, the dolls, bowie, cooper, then Kiss was born
My Michelle.
It's clear that Gene was still learning English when he wrote this.
DerAlmighty how do you figure
DerAlmighty Gene said he wrote it when he was his sons age, and Gene immigrated very young so that is very unlikely.
Where is he from?

My Lorraine honestly should have been on his album it's so good in my opinion!
It’s a nice Beatlesy song
"does it sound better in Hebrew" I'm done 😂😂😂
Gene should record that song my lorraine with the whistling and all i like it
That was actually very entertaining. And the whistles is a great name for a band
'My Lorraine' could have easily been released on Gene's solo album or maybe "The Elder"

Gene laugh is so cute!
Gene Simmons whistling. Priceless.
You can really hear Gene's Beatles influence in "My Lorraine."
You've got your wish, look up the new Gene Simmons vault which has all those songs and more and shall be delivered by the man himself.
Cool. If anyone has any other Kiss-related requests, just let me know.
@@jfrey1 hm but show some older KISS concerts been their fan since 2002 to 2023
You're so right man. Gene's first solo album was amazing.
that my lourraine song is real beautiful
All I see here is father and son having a good time, what about we all do that with the people we love and respect?
"My uncle is a raft'..... Omg I'm dyin lmao
what does my uncle is a raft talk about
Drew P, judging by the lyrics, it sounds like old Uncle Raft is a constant source of inspiration and optimism. Uncle Raft is such a boon to young Gene’s existence that he could move mountains and probably hung the moon. That’s just me waxing poetic and buffing it out with metaphors.

I could not love this more. So many laughs my daughter & I have had were about, "Oh! I thought you said..."
the whistling really reminds me John Lennon and Paul McCartney. very nice .
I am sooo teaching this song to my three year old niece!
oh my god my uncle is a raft is kinda rockin actually! Kiss should do it in the next concert!
Gene wrote this, after he got into the Beatles stash, during the recording of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Band.
Side B to my uncle is a raft is My aunt is a life jacket.
I enjoyed those songs.
Hahhah that was good! Shows the fun side of him! Great stuff!
A band called the Whistles- priceless!

I ❤ The Elder...some of their heaviest and lightest music
Gene always had a great voice but Paul had a powerful, unique voice with great vocal range. Paul could sing raunchy, raspy and rough but he could also sing tender and smooth. To see gene like a real human being is something sweet to it
So weird that I never ever watched this show when it was on. I’m a HUGE KISS fan. 🤔
The second song is pretty good. Its got a do whop 50's feel to it.

I would love to see him tour like this.
He should have put this on Monster so it at least have a one good song!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jimmy Stinky , Is Monster really that bad?, love Kiss but I stopped after the Final Kiss tour in 2000.
Monster is a good album.
Nick is just sitting there thinking he is the coolest person on the planet.
THEY SHOULD OF PUT THAT SONG ON THE FIRST ALBUM
It's funny seeing this other side of the demon, lol. And you're absolutely right, RabbiChaimWhitz. Gene should make another solo album with these songs on it.
They're actually pretty catchy!
real awsome.sounds so much like John Lennon. how creatively done .
plz record my Lorraine with the whistling.i heard live version of the song, but here he sounds the best.his voice sounds so nice in here
His son suffered that well.
Long Lost Wicked Lester demos.

Good songs.
Gene was definitely Stoned when he wrote these!
Gene claims he never did any drugs or booze
I liked this
THIS SHIT IS SO GOOD IT'S SCARY

Very interesting. You can hear the time period. Kinda catchy tho

Monster was a cool album
Nice songs

Gene plays an Epiphone: excellent! Not sure about this early material though.
I like it !!!!!!

Very Cooooool:)
& im trying to wrap my head around why he's playing a $100 epiphone acoustic... he's Gene Simmons!! But I love KISS, and Gene the same. Woo!!
Dan-o Ferrell ya no shit , buy a better guitar ffs
I know he’s a bassist but You’d think he’d be a better guitar player than that after 50 years of being a rock star
Good stuff
Gene, tune the God Damn thing!!!!!
You always remember the first song you wrote
Gene is great! His a great bass player and singer and who doesnt want to make money?!His son has a bit of a tude though but that will hopefully pass with age.

We tune because we care.
Still nice song, reminds me " Stanley the Parrot " a good one too.. Wicked Lester time !

I think it's cool that it's out of tune especially since it was on his reality show
You are right JeffersonDinedAlone that I'm not a business major but after a quick Google search, Gene Simmons is not endorsed by Ephiphone which makes me wonder with all his money why would he play an Ephiphone when he could afford a better sounding and higher quality guitar?
maybe he likes epiphones? I have Gibson, Fender, Ibanez, Davidson and Epiphones - I prefer the epiphones over all of them.
Maybe Gene is a cheapskate? Or maybe he got it as a gift or something?
Poor dog having to listen to that.
