I live in the U.S. and I cant find any stores anywhere that sell dreads and the only websites i can find that sell them are in the UK so could you either make a vid on how to make them by hand or else post a link of someone else making them? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
do you re use the same set of dreads? or what do you do with them? i wear mine on a falls right now, but would like to braid them in after winter. XxX Orphea
Yeah, it probably feels about the same. TheMothInFlames suggested trying something called "Knotty Boy's Pappermint Cooling Scalp Spray" for itchy scalps. I haven't tried it yet, but it might work for you?
No, not headaches, but my scalp gets really itchy. And some hairstyles pull very tight on the hairs, causing the scalp to hurt. So yeah, dreads aren't the most comfortable of hairstyles.
i love how you look with this set of dreads. youv really inspired me to get a full head of dreads. iv had synths before but i only put them in the underneath part(the undercut section) and had my natural hair over it so they were a little pop of colour, however my loose hair started dreading around them so i had to keep a very watchful eye on them:) but they were still loads o fun :)
I usually don't re-use them because you have to re-seal them and they can be difficult to get completely cleaned. But yes, the idea is that you can re-use them if you want.
Very informative video! I recently cut my hair pretty short(it's about 10cm), and I'm dying to have long hair again, and so I'm looking into braid-in dreads for that reason. I have made a few dreads before from kanekalon, but I'm so darn sloooow at making them... hahaha Also, the pink and purple looks sooo good on you! =)
in this video do you have Human hair or synthetics in? and which do you prefer? sorry if you said it in this vid i rewatched it like three times but i didnt hear lol. thanks i really love your vids!
I love how you have no eyebrows. It's so strange but I can't stop looking at you lol. So weird, but in a good way. Getting dreads for the first time (once they arrive) so glad you mentioned the hair shedding thing haha.
I've never had a problem at work, with my hair or my tats. People actually love it, I get endless questions about my half sleeve, and have actually had complaints if my hair looks too "normal"
+samantha Zammit That's been the case for the majority of the time for me too. Sadly, that is not the case for a lot of alternative people across the world. I get SO many messages from people being bullied and harrassed because of how they look. So I am always an advocate for the right to look like and be yourself.
Wait, how long to the dreads themselves last? How often will I have to buy new ones? I love the style and really want to them, but I can't afford to be spending $200 on them every other month if I have to keep buying new ones...
200$ will get you TONS of dreads if you make them yourself. I always save and re-use mine too. And how long I keep them in depends on how fast I get bored with them or the itching becomes too much. Sometimes I take them out after two weeks. The longest I have ever worn the same set was 8 or 9 weeks.
hi ^^ i wanted to ask if you can use a hairdryer on the dreads too, because i'm a morning person and i love to shower in the mornings and i don't wanna have wet hair all day long
Miri i know you never got an answer but i noticed in your picture you have dreads and this was posted two years ago so i guess you figured something out. Did you get an answer? I'm willing to get dreads but no video answers this question
Miri For some reason, UA-cam never notified me about this comment. Sorry you had to wait two years for a reply! :( And I never tried using a hairdryer myself, so I can't be sure, but I don't think it would work. Heat causes the plastic to melt, so it could affect the dreads.
+Hexabelle0 For a shaved head - Photoshop. ;) For dreads - try dread falls. It means you attach the dreads to a headband or such, and temporaily wear them to see how you like them.
if you want to shave the sides of your head you can tie the hair (that you want to shave) tightly to the back so the sides are completely flat. if you keep the rest loose you should get a general idea of how it will look
+Jackie Smith You use the same technique as for short hair, you just have to braid more. ;) And you don't have to braid them as tight, as you have more "secure spots" with long hair. I have several videos on how I braid mine in, one of them is linked in the caption!
Your dreads might itch and feel tight if you are in installing them on wet hair because as the hair dries it tightens and can cause damage and brakage to the hair
+Sascha Shamkin I've never had any issues with the way I look at work. But it all depends on who you work for, I guess. The way one performs at a job has nothing to do with one's appearance, so to me it's just stupid to force people to change their appearance for a job.
+Sascha Shamkin No, your natural hair doesn't break off. It can hurt the scalp when you first braid them in though, if you braid them really tight, so keep that in mind! And something that freaked me out the first time I took a set of dreads out was the amount of natural hair that fell out when I combed through my hair. BUT, it is only the natural fall-out that we all have that has been stuck inside the dread-braid all that time and has been unable to fall out. So, that is why it appears as if you are losing a bunch of hair when you take your dreads out, but you're really not. ;)
I never use human hair. I don't like the "natural" feeling. Also, there are people who have no other choice for money other than selling their hair. Awful.
The first known examples of the hairstyle date back to ancient Egypt, where dreadlocks appeared on Egyptian artifacts. Mummified remains of ancient Egyptians with dreadlocks have even been recovered from archaeological sites. The Old Testament also recounts the tale of Samson and Delilah in which a man's potency is directly linked to 'the seven locks on his head' and according to Roman accounts, the Celts were described to have 'hair like snakes' Germanic tribes, Greeks and the Vikings are all said to have worn dreadlocks too. Rastafarianism however is something entirely separate. It was born in the 1930s when Ras Tafari was crowned emperor of Ethiopia. When the emperor was forced into exile during an invasion, guerrilla warriors swore not to cut their hair until the emperor was reinstated. The religion resonated with the ideologies of the day, for example socialism, Marxism, nationalism and black power. It was therefore, seen as a threat to Christianity and came under attack by the authorities that tried to suppress the 'Rasta' movement and imprisoned those who possessed 'ganja'. Rastafarians smoked cannabis because they thought it prompted a clearer state of well - being. Their dreadlocks were thought to be disgusting and frightening, hence the term 'dread' which was later reclaimed by the 'Rasta' community. So no, white people haven't stolen this. Dreads were originally an Egyptian thing that later on was used by other cultures. This is the Internet. Use it. Do our research before you make stupid comments.
I really love the pink ones they are a lil more puffy and I love the look
And perhaps attaching the dreads to a clip so that you could put them in any time?

Have you thought about making dreads from wool roving?
Yeah, it probably feels about the same. TheMothInFlames suggested trying something called "Knotty Boy's Pappermint Cooling Scalp Spray" for itchy scalps. I haven't tried it yet, but it might work for you?

Do you mean how to attach them when you braid them in? Because I just recorded a video showing that. It'll be up this week or next.
Very informative video!

Can you make a video showing how to add elastics to the dreads?

Don't be sorry. I'm not. I love them and it's my face.
you answered a lot of questions I had about getting DE dreads, Thank You

Your brows are perfect in this video!
Oh, that's so sweet! :) What's the story about?
You are my fave UA-camr and I think you are beautiful. You are my rollmodel and I am thinking of getting a haircut like yours (without the dreads) xx
Wait, how long to the dreads themselves last?

And I do have dread-falls as well. Just not wool ones. ;)
hey do you listen to goa beautiful lady?
Is there a way to know if you would look good with shaved hair or dreads without having to just go for it?
+Hexabelle0 For a shaved head - Photoshop. ;) For dreads - try dread falls. It means you attach the dreads to a headband or such, and temporaily wear them to see how you like them.

Thanks for the suggestions!
If you look in the description box, there is a link to my video on how to make double ended dreads.
I know this is an old video. but my hair long hair how would I braid my dreads?

Ok thank and I love you channel
Can you add these to existing real hair dreads? (:
(Wool roving extensions to real hair dreads)
Lily Marie I've never had real dreads, so I don't really know, but honestly - why not? I see no reason why it wouldn't work. ;)
I SO LOVED this video!! and your dynamite for sharing!! THANKS
Heather Branson Thanks Heather, glad you like it! :)

Well I stopped wearing dreads a year and a half ago, so it's all good. 😉
Hi I was wondering, When your working a job can you have the dreads in or is it to crazy of a look?

I agree thanks
My mom was wondering if the dreads make your hair break off. And if it runes your natural hair.

have you tried wool? and do you sell dreads?
amber eason I have several videos featuring wool dreads. 😉 And no, I don't sell them. But I have tutorials for how to make them!
So, narrow dreads and thicker dreads... What's the best and worst thing about both? :D -Besides the difference in the amount you need.
For me, the only difference is in the appearance. And I prefer thicker dreads.
TezMania TV Thanks!
Hrm, can't really say that I do. I'm more of a rock/metal/EBM girl.
Oh you are the sweetest sweetheart ever. Thank you!
times have changed -- I make dreads to fit my head -- and less the weight with even syn hair -- I never have itch
Oh wow, thank you so much! :)
i love you vids
Hahaha I had my phone on the table when playing this video and my kitten pawed at the screen when her dreads would move.

I never use human hair. I don't like the "natural" feeling. Also, there are people who have no other choice for money other than selling their hair. Awful.

Im sorry but those all those piercings look wierd on you.
This is cultural appropriation.
Laura A. you arent entitled to a hair style. you dont own the rights to it. its a style of hair. calm down.
Somebody learned a new "term"

Laura A. You're ignorant. Don't spit out rhetoric you've overheard without knowing the history behind it.
