The numbers I gave might be a little higher than what you'll see other people say! I gave estimates on the higher end of the average because it's better to have some leftover than to run out while you're installing. Don't forget to check the description for all the measurements, avg set amounts, and where I got the dreads I showed!
You should show your collection of dreads cuz after all these years of dreads you should have many of them. In the video you will talk a little bit about them and maybe show a picture of you wearing them and of course where you order them. Good luck 😊❤
You are my inspiration! You push me to make my own dreads and finally install them on my own. I’m almost done with my first ever set of dreads and will install in exactly one week. I’m so excited to start this natural hair journey!
If you have single ended dreds you can also attach onto the installed dreds temporarily which bulks it up a bit. Just slip the end through the hoop and pull.
In case you guys are wondering I have a thicker Mohawk so only my sides are shaved and I recently got a few dreadlock sets. I started my journey on this video and for my hair I estimated I needed 30 to 35 max from this video. I found out for the most part I usually install between 35 -45 dreads every install. I like to have 4 in the front and 2 in the back and at the widest pont I can get 5 I have 8 sets of dreads made by 5 different makers and they all vary slightly in width but only one of those sets have a different install pattern. In saying all this I am never upset to get a few extra dreads to make sure I don’t have empty patches
Fricken love you, my inspiration for DE dreads! I figured how many I would need by sectioning my hair into small squares and tying them I have a mix between medium and thick and my hair is thin so about 40 actually worked fine for me, thanks for the info!
Thank you for this! I have ordered a full set of 50 standard/medium dreads, and since it's my first set I had no idea if it'd actually be enough. Since you said 45-50 should suffice and since I'm going to leave some fringe and "framing strands" at the front I'm now confident I'll have enough :)
I’ve got thin hair and I like thin dreads and I can get away with 50. Luckily I guessed right the first time! Lol. Thanks for being such an inspiration for me to just be myself and do what I want!
I have been following you since forever and you never let me down. YOU HAVE MOST AMAZING SENSE OF STYLE AND YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL. U were always my role model. Thank you for existing ❤
I'm trying to do a thick set on my bf and leftover might come in hand for the next set. Thanks a lot for the tips, I've watched your videos for entrainment for years, and know your knowledge is becoming REALLY useful
Thank you very much for this video. I'm making my own SE DREADS because here in Brazil it's too expensive to buy. I have a Mohawk similar to yours and I'm making about 30 wool dreads. I can show it if you want. Thank you for inspiring me. Youre gorgeous. ♡
Okay, I have been subscribed for a grand time, and now is the time I want dreads but I really don't know where to start. Someone I talked with does $70 per 10 dreads but I love their style and i dont know if that's a good deal i dont have much money. All I have down is the hairstyle and the size and guesstimate of how many dreads I need. I don't know how to self instal and I havnt checked if any hair dressors do. I'm just so flustered with this situation, so I'll comment on a channel I bet I can get help from! Thank you for this informational video!!!
Your so pretty! I want to do dread extensions so this is how I found you and this is the 3rd video on your channel that I've watched. I'm 54 and have a longer than average nose so I'm afraid once I get them in I'll feel ugly ...
Thanks for the info! I use mostly on top 4 rows of 5 sharpie thick wooldreads, hehe. Not a big poofy amount but I like it :) Don't have anything shaved though, just put my hair back sleek and hide it under the dreads!
I am in love with your hair. I have cut all my hair off twice. And after awhile I would regret it because of my lack of self confidence. I have always wanted to be able to have the courage to do whatever I want to, to my hair! I want so badly to cut my hair similar to yours and put dreads in!! I also want to go back to my mermaid hair. I just hate the judgement and glares from people. I know I shouldn't care what they think.. I just feel like being 28 and now a mom to a 4 month old daughter, the judgement will be worse! :( Like I am expected to look and be a certain way because I am told I am too old to do fun things to my hair and I will look childish. I'm crying out for self expression. You're awesome and inspiring to me. Where do you get the courage and confidence?
I dig the idea of dreads, but I've always been a little hesitant. I live in a fairly conservative Canadian city, but I do have an undercut, which I braid in a similar fashion to Ragnar from Vikings or simply comb over to the right. I might go for the thin or micro dreads, but am unsure how much they would limit my ability to braid my hair into a ponytail-like braid. I also have very thick hair that grows quite rapidly. Ideas?
Hey can you do a video about machine made dreadlocks vs handmade dreadlocks? I know you touched on this lightly here and I have ordered handmade dreads from Etsy. But I’m curious about what the machine made dreads look like and where you would even find something like that?
I truly appreciate the details of all the examples and possibilities 💡😉😘 But my main question is I only want seven or 12 dreads because I was reading about Samson in the history and the way I want my hair I wasn't planning on fully dreading I wanted to leave my bangs out which aren't bangs because I like my hair the way you have it and I didn't picture having the first three on the front of my forehead I wanted that to be loose hair that I can take twirl in my hand 💡 and the little sideburn that you have I've been wanting to do that with both of my sides so there's a lot of hair I want specifically left alone and then I have really thin hair so I realized having more would give me more volume but I want the connection of just having the simple things I want like a braid Viking braids that hold down so I don't have to shave the side of my head and then those into a lock or two 🤣 I guess I'm building my ideas while researching because it mostly I just knew I didn't want to shave the side of my head but I wanted to braid it back so it would stop bothering me and stay permanent to the side of my head shaving it would be so much easier but then again I have been here and shaving only makes it thinner
Thank you!!! I shaved most of my head today and have been trying to find someone with an undercut talking about how many they’ve used lol Mohawks seem to be more popular
Just wanted to update in case anyone else sees this thread, I ordered 40 single ended and used all of them! I can get away with just using 34ish too I just like the volume of the full 40. (Pencil thin btw)
THANK YOU!!! I’ve been trying to find information on a mostly shaved head, with thick hair. I just made my first set and have 25 pencil thin so I was hoping that would be enough
Hi, you literally became my Dreadlocks Guru. lol Thank you so much to share your knowledge, it's helping me a lot since it's been only a week from the first time I had my Dreadlocks installed. I made them out of wool (Navy Blue and Silver Light Blue, a good match for my Blue hair I'd say.) but I installed too less them, also I am not really feeling comfortable wearing it: it stinks when washed, they tend to get large and they loose LOADS of fluff! So I was considering to get some synthetics if they are not too expensive. Thank you for the infos!
I think parting and sectioning the hair in advance may give you a closer number to how many dreads you will need to order. I often do yarn braids and usually part my hair in 56 sections, however, my sister parts her hair in smaller sections and ends up with more braids. Instead of estimating the quantity in the amount of hair on the head, I would suggest using the size of the sections as a reference to how much hair/dreads/braids you will need.
Good idea! It's the same principal really, since the size of the dreads determines the size of the sections. And the more hair you have the more sections you have! But I like the way you explained it and I agree that doing it that way would be more accurate to each person. Would you mind if I made a video about it someday?
I hope I didnt screw up. I have a full head, and actually have 30 baby dreads. I ordered 20 pen size to start with to add to the length and volume. I guess I could order more if I need them. I wish I'd seen thus video first!
This video was so helpful! Those dreads she has all look so good. I wonder what she suggests someone get just trying them out for first time.. I’m not trying o spend hundreds upon hundreds only to not like them..
Is there something like 'too much' hair for dreads? Because I have a pretty thick ginger mane that goes to my butt and I have the feeling that it might be a little bit too much and too heavy for dreads in the end?
+Leah Chan Yes and no. No, because if you've seen my install tutorial, I cover the method for braiding that you'd use (blanket stitch) that is perfect for people with long hair! But yes, because if you wanted super short, skinny dreads, you might have too much bc your real hair might braid too far down the dreads even with the blanket stitch method. I hope that makes sense!
ch527kerosene it definitely helped, thx! So which size do you recommend? And where do you order yours since you live in Europe? Thanks so much for answering!
It's more than okay! You can dm me on any of these platforms, just pick what works for you: twitter, fb, insta, tumblr, or email (my email is kerosenebusiness@gmail.com since it's not listed in the description with the rest of my info)
Hello, I was watching this and I’d like to know the info about your princess hair dread set. How big are they? How long are they? And how many did you buy for that set? Are they wool or synthetic? Thanks so much! Keep up with your awesome videos!
I have decided thank you soo much i decided to get medium or sharpie sized locs because i dont want them soo thin they look like loose hair but not soo thick that they look dumb i like the average size because they are manageable and good lookin in my opinion.
I can give the thinnest dreadlocks when I do not have any shavings on my head. I want to give them but I do not know if it will look bad when I have it all over my head ❤❤
I've been watching all your dread videos nonstop, and just ordered my own set from Filthy's Synthetics! I'm really excited to get them, and just think. If you never would have shown up in my reccomended I wouldn't have found out so much info about synthetic dreads to be confident enough to try them :)
Can you do a video of how real dreads feel vs synthetic cant find anything to explain just got my first set of synthic and really excited to do this. tempted to do my hair but after all my cancer treatments nervous how it will turn out or stay. But really interested in knowing more of the comparison in that aspect.
I have very thin hair so I got 70 pencil/sharpie type dreads. I have yarn as extra if I run out because I want a couple braids but I’m not sure if I’ll need them because my hair is really thin
I made my own with full head bamgs out and i was more or less good w 30 but i ordered more kanekalon cuz its not as good on the top, mine arw probably medium size but they are already pretty heavy ( like 60cm long) especially when wet and the weight makes them slip when i wash them 😕
I love the thickness. Mine are too skinny..Going to try your method...How big are your sections! I have a mohawk too. But the hair is too short to braid. Any suggestions? Thanks! 😊
Hello :) What is the best way on how to cut DE wool dreadlock extensions as they are a little to long. Can I just cut them and burn the ends a little to they stick down and not frail out? Kinda new to this stuff haha :)
So I am planning to get synthetic dreads in a half head style (if I am correct that means that you have a mix of normal hair and dreadlocks). I have a full head of mid length hair and I want to get pencil sized, or maybe even micro dreads kind of underneath my normal hair. I want it to look like there is more normal hair than dreads and the dreads are almost like highlights set in a layer underneath the normal hair. How many should I get?
Hey! I just wanna ask. I tried to look for the artist you recommended before and they're not shipping worldwide. I am from the philippines and I wanted this DE Dreads so bad. Then, I found an artist. I was so close to just having an extension but I realized, I don't want it. Then, I found an artist. She makes kanekalon (I think) and wool. Which one is the best? Because I am planning to go to the beach and hopefully the colors won't fade.
Where do you recommend I get my first set of dreads I would like standard to thick. I have so many questions but I don't wanna drive you crazy so I'll bother who you recommend hahha
After installing the dreads, is it necessary to cut them out when you want them out? I am a newbie with dreads and I subscribed to your channel a few minutes ago xD
My new year's resolution is to not dye my hair anymore and I want to start synth dreading but im not sure were to start. I have the right side of my head shaved. Were would you recommend buying my first set from. I heard u say that machine made are not as good as handmade. Iv googled and all that pops up is etsy could you recommend any other makers?!?!?
heyy I have a question, I really want wooldreads but I'm vegan and I don't want to buy actual wool, but I'm uncomfortable with using synthetic, I've heard of bamboo fiber or orhter natural ones, I mean technically is it possible to make dreads using cotton or some other plant-based yarn?
I have very long hair but its quite thin and fine.. I've ordered pencil 60 dreads (mixture of SE and DE). Do you think this would be enough? Can't wait for them to arrive and install them 😍 xx
The numbers I gave might be a little higher than what you'll see other people say! I gave estimates on the higher end of the average because it's better to have some leftover than to run out while you're installing. Don't forget to check the description for all the measurements, avg set amounts, and where I got the dreads I showed!
ch527kerosene I love all the looks you do! 😘
Am I the that made you do this video? I was the girl that wrote you because of the pastel dreads and the amount :)
cool video
ch527kerosene I could swear your a model for cyberdog I saw a model look very similar to you
Didn't watch, but know the answer - none. Natural or naught baby.
I think it would be interesting to see a haul of all the dread sets you have so far
I was thinking the exact same thing
You probably know this, but by now she has.
You should show your collection of dreads cuz after all these years of dreads you should have many of them. In the video you will talk a little bit about them and maybe show a picture of you wearing them and of course where you order them. Good luck 😊❤
Cornelia o
can you send me all red dreds?
Seeing that she still had the pure gore set gave me life
You are my inspiration! You push me to make my own dreads and finally install them on my own. I’m almost done with my first ever set of dreads and will install in exactly one week. I’m so excited to start this natural hair journey!

You're welcome!! Yes, sounds like you ordered enough, I'm excited for you to get them! Feel free to send me pics if you'd like, I'd love to see
Was it enough?
@@ariel-sc4en Yes! 😁 I've had them installed twice, and both time I had a few spare dreads left so 50 was definitely enough

I feel I would get micro or thin dreads as I like to randomly have braids and extra stuff in my hair. This is really helpful.
Why am I even watching this.. I have dreads so I don't need any dread extensions :D
Regina Phalange I am bald and I am watching this 😛

I have a majority of my hair shaved (undercut) and with pencil thin dreads I ordered 30 and only used 17. Hope this helps someone
Also my hair is typically considered thick

You just explained my explanation better than me. Please make a video about it, I think it will be very helpful. :)
The red and white one in the thumbnail are my favorite they were awesome.
can you do a dread collection video of all the sets you have?
Definitely! It's on my list :)
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Your video is very informative and to the point.
Wow, super helpful! Great place to start for ordering dreads!

It's more than okay! You can dm me on any of these platforms, just pick what works for you: twitter, fb, insta, tumblr, or email (my email is kerosenebusiness@gmail.com since it's not listed in the description with the rest of my info)
I have like normal hair and ordered 45 medium/thin dreads 🤗
FINALLY!! I was looking hours of hours finding a video like this! 😍😍 that's perfect thank you!!
OMG THIS IS AMAZING FREAKING LOVE I REMEMBER WATCHING I THINK IN 2015 !! I miss u😁😁😁😂😂
Ahh that's so cool!! Welcome back
Would you ever reuse a dread set?
Yes! I've done so several times :)
Would you ever consider selling old dread sets?
could you do one micro dread transformation
Darn, wish I had seen this yesterday.... will have to go back and order 20 more. lol.
Thank you for this it was very informative definitely will keep this in mind when I start making mine x
Hello, I was watching this and I’d like to know the info about your princess hair dread set. How big are they? How long are they? And how many did you buy for that set? Are they wool or synthetic? Thanks so much! Keep up with your awesome videos!
i would love for you to do a dread collection video!
Can you do a video showing us how do you section your hair?
I have decided thank you soo much i decided to get medium or sharpie sized locs because i dont want them soo thin they look like loose hair but not soo thick that they look dumb i like the average size because they are manageable and good lookin in my opinion.
I can give the thinnest dreadlocks when I do not have any shavings on my head. I want to give them but I do not know if it will look bad when I have it all over my head ❤❤
Where do you get your dreads from? I've been looking everywhere for soft pliable dreads.
You should 100% do a video of all your dread sets
Omg this helped me a lot. I'm getting my first time dreads and they are pencil thin.
Very informative! Thank you for all your videos and your links!
Where do you order your dreads from? And how often do they have to be redone?
I've been watching all your dread videos nonstop, and just ordered my own set from Filthy's Synthetics! I'm really excited to get them, and just think. If you never would have shown up in my reccomended I wouldn't have found out so much info about synthetic dreads to be confident enough to try them :)
Can you do a video of how real dreads feel vs synthetic cant find anything to explain just got my first set of synthic and really excited to do this. tempted to do my hair but after all my cancer treatments nervous how it will turn out or stay. But really interested in knowing more of the comparison in that aspect.
yeeeaaaaass. it's been a long ass day so i'm so stoked for this video.
This is thé most helpful vidéo i ever watch. Thank you so much
I have very thin hair so I got 70 pencil/sharpie type dreads. I have yarn as extra if I run out because I want a couple braids but I’m not sure if I’ll need them because my hair is really thin
I've had the same question for a long time. How long does a set last? Or you just take them off when you want?
could you make a video on your diet or what you do to stay thin? You look so thin and beautiful!! I wish I could look as gorgeous as you!!
I have a mohawk and I'm about to order some that come close to ginger hair. First time I've ever done this. Wish me luck 😭
I made my own with full head bamgs out and i was more or less good w 30 but i ordered more kanekalon cuz its not as good on the top, mine arw probably medium size but they are already pretty heavy ( like 60cm long) especially when wet and the weight makes them slip when i wash them 😕
Yeee i love you so much!!
I was hoping for a number estimate on if you're installing thick dreads into 3/4th shaved hair! Im6guessing around 10-15?
I love the thickness. Mine are too skinny..Going to try your method...How big are your sections! I have a mohawk too. But the hair is too short to braid. Any suggestions? Thanks! 😊
do you have like a timeline of all your dread extensions in a video?
THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN NEEDING> THANK YOU!!
Do you prefer double over single? And why?
I have a fohawk, I have thin hair, how many should I order? 30 dreads? 50 dreads? I want pencil size dreads. :)
i love you sm you’re so pretty. this video was so helpful
Hello :)
What is the best way on how to cut DE wool dreadlock extensions as they are a little to long.
How long do you have your hair installed at a time? Like how many weeks?
This is a very professional explanation.
Also, you're incredibly beautiful
Where do you recommend I get my first set of dreads I would like standard to thick. I have so many questions but I don't wanna drive you crazy so I'll bother who you recommend hahha
After installing the dreads, is it necessary to cut them out when you want them out? I am a newbie with dreads and I subscribed to your channel a few minutes ago xD
Do a dread extensions collection video!!!
Nice video 👌🏻 and I like that I saw the pure gore set again! Btw have you ever thought about making a “what’s on my phone” video? (Just and idea)
Thank you! What about length??
I have shoulder-length hair.. is this long enough to tie in synthetics, or should I wait?
Okay so there’s a set I’d like to get that is .5mm, I have pretty thin hair along with it being almost to my neck. So would I still get 50 DE?
Can i have a mix of the different sizes ? Like some sharpie and some highlighter?
hey I love your videos, can you do it a video with your playlist? i love so much your music¡¡¡
a micro would be cool to see install for
How heavy are they? Have u tried to weigh them? 😃
I have very long hair but its quite thin and fine.. I've ordered pencil 60 dreads (mixture of SE and DE). Do you think this would be enough? Can't wait for them to arrive and install them 😍 xx
Omg thanks! Exactly what i needed! ♡♥♡
