Isabella Guzman was a difficult child for her divorced parents to raise; however, they did their best to support and love her. But as the years grew on, she became more and more difficult to handle. Her mother, Yun-Mi Hoy, particularly struggled with her and eventually reached her breaking point. She called the cops on her daughter, hoping they'd talk some sense into her. It not only didn't work, but it appeared to make things worse. That same evening, Isabella locked herself and her mother in their bathroom and did the unthinkable... meanwhile, her stepfather was downstairs able to hear the entire attack. After ending her mom's life, Isabella went on the run but was quickly found by police. She ultimately pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, given that doctors diagnosed her with schizophrenia. She's remained in the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo, Colorado since the murder, although she has begun petitioning for her release.

Dont let her out, shes evil
"I'm not mentally ill anymore". Whoa. That's scary. Schizophrenia is forever and statements like that make me wonder if it's only being in the facility that keeps her on her meds.
People with schizophrenia notoriously claim their cured ALL the time. That is very typical especially if they're in treatment. Because of their delusions and such they tend to associate imporvment with being cured, many go off their meds and hide it because they think they don't need it anymore and try to play off hallucinations and such because they don't believe they need help still. That's just even more proof of her mental state.
Sometimes that is why some of them stay on medication. Speaking from someone who's been there (not schizophrenia) but I didn't think I needed meds either.
That's what I was thinking too! Once you have a mental illness like that, it doesn't just go away. It's more or less a life long thing. I'm in therapy and on meds for depression but I'm not magically not mentally ill anymore. I feel like she's not remorseful. Just her attitude is really suspish.
It is. Unfortunately once they leave the facility, they tend to no longer take meds.
Cases like this are always so confusing. It's nearly impossible to tell if someone was truly "insane" at the time of the crime. How would you go about treating someone like this and reintroducing them into society? There needs to be more research about mental illness, this needs to be prevented in the future.
Well she wasn't medicated at the time of the murder. I feel like haloperidol could make a big difference. Having her unmedicated and in a prison could put a lot of people in the prison at risk.
Just a reminder, insane is a legal term, not a psychological one. It always annoys me when people use the insanity defense, because it's like, "But, WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?!"
Well did they ask her dad if she’s ever acted delusional? Otherwise bs
@@klaudiaarriera9989I mean schizophrenia doesn’t usually develop until mid to late 20s. She’s only 18, so she would have early on set. So it could be a newer development. Best left to doctors to figure out.
The lack of remorse and premeditation make me think it was all an act.
That fact that she wanted sympathy because she has scars on her hands from brutally stabbing her mother to death is enough to know she doesn't need to be released.
Thank you
I hate closed minded people
Unless you’ve been schizophrenic you can not speak on her behalf
@@anthonyjames9641schizophrenics do not have multiple personalities. So either this woman has multiple personality disorder or she's a psychopath. This is not what a schizophrenic typically acts like.
I agree. I she was truly experiencing remorse I don’t think she would be talking about how hard it was on her or how she was injured. Even if she was experiencing a schizophrenic episode you would think she would express some remorse for brutally killing someone else. During her interview with the police she was at least saying the thought was disgusting.
So did she kill her because she thought she was “Cecelia” or did she kill her because she suffered abuse? What she’s saying isn’t consistent which makes her excuse suspicious
It’s so confusing but here’s what I’ve theorised a bit. I guess, the rage towards her mother may have come from the abuse (I use may cause there’s no way I can be 100% certain that she was in fact abused) and that may have led to the ultimate psychotic break she had. However, that psychotic break sent her into a full blown delusion, likely due to the anger she felt towards her mother. “Cecelia” is a product of her delusion as opposed to just simple creation. The reason the abuse is not adding up in my head is if she was abused by both parents, how come only her mother suffered? Could it have been a case of whoever was there first? Maybe it was just the mother who abused her? We’ll never know. Truly a tragic case tbh.
From my understanding schizophrenia is brought out by trauma. So I think the idea is she was abused and it caused her to become schizophrenic and therefore thinking her mom was “Cecelia”. So both.
@@alexissagravesthat’s not how schizophrenia works, it has been found that some people who have the trait had it brought out because of abuse, but majority of cases are regular people who lived normal lives. Many of my patients are schizophrenic, and had normal upbringing’s.
It’s very possible that her claiming abuse is a cop out. I know a lot of people hate religion but being raised a certain religion isn’t necessarily abuse. She’s so vague about the abuse that it seems sketchy to me.
@@alexissagraves A trauma can trigger a crisis, but the illness is already present. Substance abuse can cause the same phenomenon. Eighteen years old is also a very common age for the onset of symptoms in many individuals.
Aside from her mental illness mentioning her own injuries and saying she’s “no longer mentally ill” doesn’t sit right. Mental illness is lifelong even when treated and there’s something fishy mentioning her own scars. Also her “abusive” childhood and her case of assault in hospital having inconsistency with her report she says she filed but doesn’t exist is suspicious to me
Do you know how much abuse and corruption occurs in facilities like this?? The lack of a report doesn't automatically mean she lied.
Yes. I agree. She doesn’t look quite human in that video.
Yep we cray cray for life
I'm pretty sure schizophrenia isn't a mental illness that can be "cured", just managed. Usually that means through medication, and SO many people will stop taking their medications as soon as they are no longer forced to (with any mental illness). So in that regard, I don't believe she could ever be fully let out into society, assuming she is medicated. Who's to say that she won't relapse. As far as her allegations go, it may be true, it may not be. In either case, it's sad.
jehovahs witnesses are famously abusive, and those institutions are shit shows. unreported doesn’t mean it never happened, and cover-ups happen more frequently than you think. i don’t think she was schizophrenic, but i’d bet that she was abused by her parents and assaulted in the hospital.
Definitely a hard one because she was clearly having an episode when the murder happened, but then listening to her interview in 2020 and how she brought up her hand getting injured during the attack... like that does not sound remorseful at all. Why even bring that up when your mother was stabbed 70+ times by you? Regardless I hope she is getting the help she needs. May her mom rest in peace.
Good point!
Right? Like, her hand was injured because the knife most likely slipped and cut her from all the blood loss SHE caused by STABBING HER MOM OVER 70 TIMES. To bring that up as a bid for sympathy is wild.
Yeah I noticed that too, she called it a fight but she premeditated it and brought a knife and a baseball bat. Even if she wasn’t in the right state of mind at the time that’s still an odd way to talk about it after supposedly being rehabilitated
Maybe because she wasn’t mentally present or something? So it’s like she’s detached from it and doesn’t have that same connection to the event? I’m unclear whether she remembers the event or not or was just told/shown about it. If she doesn’t have a memory, I could see why she may appear less remorseful and point out something like the scar…which is physical proof to her that this really did happen.
But again, it would all come down to her memory of things and then her ability to fully comprehend as much as possible what happened if she did not have a memory.
It really is a tricky case and there are so many what ifs
She abused her daughter, f her.
She may have been insane at the time, but clearly NOT remorseful in the least. She ambushed her mother and calls it a "fight" between them. She needs to stay locked up b
It’s a terrible feeling when you have to be afraid of your own daughter. 😢
The tragic thing about schizophrenia is that it hits so unexpectedly during adolescence :( Its almost impossible to put safety measure in place beforehand, as it develops during those years and usually reveals itself in form of a violent sudden psychotic break. But since it is a lifelong incurable mental disease, Isabella needs to be - at the very least - under psychiatric supervision for the rest of her life.
This is why I have a problem with the diagnosis of schizophrenia, she has shown behaviour issues since she was a young child and to such a degree that she was sent to live with her father at the age of 7 because her mother was frightened of her. She had also been getting in trouble at school because of her aggression towards other children and staff. When she was arrested she tried to pretend to be someone else and kept up that charade for hours on end
To me those are signs so I have mix feelings, like would things have been different if she was treated sooner
@@devangreedier1539the signs are too early for schizophrenia, it usually hits in late teens/ early twenties. It’s extremely rare to hit early on, though I guess it’s not impossible. I think it would be possible for different mental issues could have started early on. I watch the interrogation and want to say she is lying, but I am definitely an expert. I would love to see some good body language experts analyze this. That would be so fascinating.
@@nursenicole222Toward the end of the video, it mentions she was allegedly abused as a child. If true, that could’ve explained the earlier behavior issues. I have a grandfather who is schizophrenic. It would be incredibly hard to fake and make it believable, especially long term and when being evaluated by experts.
I think her saying she’s all better and no longer mentally ill is quite a stretch, though. She may be on anti-psychotics and receiving treatment to keep her schizophrenia at bay, but she’s not just going to be magically healed.
I don't know if she is schizophrenic or psychotic or what...she definitely is responsible for killing her mother. If she is on meds to control her mental illness, ok, but if released to the public she can easily go off meds and do harm to others. I say she needs to stay put where she can definitely get the help she needs and be monitored. There just are no guarantees if she is released. It's truly sad no matter what.
As a nurse, yes she can absolutely become a functioning member of society and remorseful if on medication, however the issue with this mental illness is that their compliance with medication is not typically great, and if she stops taking it, she is again a danger. But schizophrenics are not psychopaths and they do feel remorse.
Yes, you are so right. My father has schizophrenia and he's a great father. He takes his medications everyday, but only because my mom takes care of him and reminds him to take them and makes sure he does. I know for a fact if it wasn't for my mom, he would be struggling to take care of himself. Schizophrenia is really upsetting for the entire family honestly
My father was never violent to this degree though and when he was angry and defensive, it was because he was scared and in a delusion. But I do understand how you can be so warped and terrified of your own mind that you can be driven to murder like she did
I'm sorry... I know they feel love just like we do, but it's hard to articulate feelings or show it consistently for schizophrenics. @@annakorovchenko4524
As a nurse I know everything
@@Chai_586 a psychiatric emergency nurse, but go off.
your cat brings so much comfort while we listen to this heartbreaking story
I grew up in an abusive house. I despise my dad. But I feel that If I murdered him in a delusional episode and came to and being told I killed him in such a brutal way I'd feel SOME sort of remorse. The fact AFTER she comes out of it and acted the way she had during that whole trial shows so much. And the video of her claiming she can be trusted to be released says even more. Someone who won't show an OUNCE of accountability or guilt for commiting such a horrible crime is someone who can never be trusted to take her medicine and not slip and have another episode and kill someone else if not multiple people. If her delusional episodes lead to such horrendous violence to the point of death she is someone who can't ever be trusted also to walk in society
That's what you think. She doesn't seem to have "come out of it" to me at all. She sounds exactly like someone still in delusion.
In her interview to show that she has been rehabilitated, she said nothing of mental illness. She said she was abused and complained about her scars. She shouldn't be going out.
I’ve heard this case so many times, and no one has ever mentioned that it was because she had schizophrenia that is such an important detail to leave out that is so sad, but it makes the case less confusing!!
It’s an excuse for sympathy. Not working on my heart.
You all believe anything, and it's scary.
@@yolandareyes5190it’s not an excuse for sympathy it’s a clear cut situation shut up ho
@@yolandareyes5190or... It's the facts of the case and yall are just annoying.
Schizophrenia doesn't make people think they're an entirely different person. That's multiple personality disorder. I'm not buying either as an excuse for this case.
Were there any signs of her being schizophrenic before she killed her mom? How did her father not kick the door down hearing what he heard? So many questions.
He said that Isabella had her body pressed against the door. I’m imagining a small bathroom where kicking down the door would’ve just hurt either Isabella or his wife
This is a good question! Surely there could have been signs of her being mentally ill before the murders
Never let her out. Her "stable" comments sound manipulative. Awesome coverage as usual Kendall. ❤
Exactly. She's been playing the long game.
Cases like this one have so many nuances. It's hard to judge with information being so limited. Two of my family members have schizophrenia and it's so complex.
Thank you ♥ ♥ ♥
It's complex yes but sometimes they can be very dangerous
Thank you. Sometimes it feels like you never really know how mental illness can be unless someone close to you has this kind of illness
@@Angelface11 people with this illness are actually mostly not dangerous, this is misinformation. google search "schizophrenia and dangerous behaviour". unfortunately treatment in a lot of places is inaccessible.
I grew up with some with schizophrenia and I know exactly what you mean. :(
Regardless of whether she remembers or accepts that she did it, she still seems to feel very detached from the murder. It’s hard to say someone has adequately served their time if they don’t seem to have learned or internalized anything.
Yeah but she's detached because she didn't see that as her mom. She was living in a different reality.
Right, but now she claims to be in this reality with the rest of us, where her mother is dead at her hands. Unless she never felt a connection to her mother in the first place, I'd expect her to express some level of grief or remorse, now that she knows what's real and what's not. Her lack of emotion could be explained by some kind of heavy medication, but even then it's very odd that she chose to bring up how tough it is on her to have scars from the murder she committed, and tried to show them to the camera.@@toniariana3017
@@toniariana3017 maybe or maybe not. But even so, a person should have accountability for murdering somebody. "Oh whatever, that person's life didn't matter" is not an attitude I want to see for any free person walking in society.
With mental illness there is no telling.
She doesn't seem remorseful for what she did. She seems like she's more worried about how it's affected her, especially bringing up the scars on her hands.
I can’t wait! I live in NOLA & I had no idea that your documentary takes place here!
I have schizophrenia and cases like this make me so sad. Mental illness doesn’t excuse her actions but I wish she was able to get help before any of this happened. I was lucky to get treatment early and I think that’s one of the reasons I’m able to live a mostly normal life now
As a mentally ill person it does sadden me seeing so much ableism in these comments
Agreed. Also, as soon as I heard that her mom's last word was "Jehovah" I began to worry that her parents had chosen not to pursue therapy and psychiatric treatment when they first noticed her behavioral issues. They probably thought they could fix it with religion.
@@LammasDelugeI wondered the exact same thing!! Thankfully my parents MADE ME go see a psych recently for my bipolar II, and I can’t thank them enough. However, I realize some people don’t get that encouragement. It doesn’t ever excuse her actions, but it’s something worth wondering about I think.
It's clear she was showing signs before this awful attack. I agree, it is surprising to me that nobody in her life tried to get her help.
@@straberryshinigami15g97 what you see as "ableism" some others may see as "enableism". Being critical of her brutally revenge-murdering someone she already hated intensely and then having no remorse for it while being very narcissistic is not ableism. I don't think it's unreasonable to have honest skepticism about her mental state, especially because psychologists and experts themselves often have completely different diagnoses for the same person. Often the prosecution presents one expert diagnosis and the defense presents a different expert diagnosis. Of course it's indeed likely that she was suffering from schizophrenia but it's not unreasonable to have skepticism about that.
She needs to stay where she is. Most folks that have this stop taking their meds thinking they don't need them any more. With that they become delusional again and un safe to be around.
Oh yeah I go berserk off my meds 😮😢
Not MOST people with schizophrenia, most are stable on medication and get on with their lives, there’s only a small minority who might think they’re cured and stop taking their medication

what she did is horrific and unforgivable. she needs to be locked up for life, whether it’s in an institution or in prison. you can tell she’s not remorseful even now and continues to make everything about HER, how SHE was hurt and what SHE suffered. it’s a shame yun-mi will never get proper justice.
So happy for you on the documentary!! It’s so apparent just from the trailer how much work and attention was put into this by the team! Can’t wait to see it
Mind boggling how calm the husband is. I would not be that calm if that happened to my spouse.
that’s all I keep thinking when his interviews are played, he’s so calm like he’s not even phased or maybe he’s just in shock
Yeah, I also found that weird.
I truly doubt you have even the slightest clue how you’d react if you were in this situation. He’s likely feeling feelings that you can’t even comprehend. Not to mention, everybody grieves differently, especially when they’re around others and put in a position of having to recall traumatic events. He’s likely in shock. So disrespectful and blatantly gross to talk about how he’s acting.
Shock is a hell of a drug.
Ya I thought it was really weird too 😒
Schizophrenia can really be scary, I had a friend with severe schizophrenia, and thought she had to go swimming in the river during the middle of winter in Montana. She sadly passed away from the incident, but it can make people think many wild thoughts
I'm sorry for your loss 😔
I went to a state college in New York. There was this girl we saw in the dining hall pretty much lived like an animal. She would pile her tray with all manner of fried foods and eat it standing up. We imagine her dorm room was a bed on one side and a tire swing on the other. It was definitely schizophrenia.
I am a proponent of awareness for mental illness but she didn’t seem very sorry! Talking about her tiny little hand scar. If I just “woke up” and realized I killed my mom while having a delusion, I would be very remorseful!
Sure but you’re assuming she actually is better. She’s still in the hospital so clearly they do not think she is.
I remember watching her and people on tik tok doing this and I couldn’t understand why people would think it’s okay to glorify a murder but it’s been happening for a long time.
Also, this off topic, but when Gypsy Rose Blanchard gets out of prison you should do an update on her! ❤️
I went to HS w/ her. She always talked about being able to manipulate her parents & was only worried about the next party. I don’t believe she is one bit remorseful.
i believe you. i can't believe how many people are buying her story.
This seems totally in character for her. Psychopaths love to brag about how they trick and con others.
did she have any friends?
Ikr. It's hilarious to see all these comments talking about her illness. So Samantha only came out after she killed her mother, and she suddenly realized she's over 18? People are buying this lolol
😂😂😂 I don't believe her at all.
Having a family member with mental illness (schizoaffective disorder more specifically) I learned to navigate through episodes and it’s easy to tell when other people are faking mental illness. The interrogation brought back memories and make us grateful how everything is so much better. It took 3 years to get things back on track so 7 years doesn’t seem far fetched at all especially if she has support group.
If she wasn’t aware of killing her mother, then why was she hiding? 🤔
She still probably thought it was the woman named Cecilia and that the cops were coming for killing her. Not sure
But she said she didn’t kill anymore in her interrogation. So all of a sudden she admits to killing someone to save the world?! Come on now
She told everyone she was raped, when she still had the bloody clothes on, when she was changing her clothes at the store, and no one called the police, try and make all this make sense. It's because she's lying her behind off.
We are so excited for your documentary! We know you have been pouring your heart and soul into it! Never stop working to spread awareness for the voiceless.
I do not think she’s been rehabilitated. The fact that in her interview she made a point to self pity by showing the injuries to her hands that were caused when she murdered her mother…yeah absolutely not. She is a danger to society and should serve life in prison.
Right like if she was truly in a schizophrenic episode and blacked out/hallucinating, when she eventually comes back to reality and faces the fact of what happened she would be in total shock at the very least, yet she just went on to justify what happened and self pity with the ‘cut of her hands’ which is what usually happens when you stab someone, you end up cutting yourself in the process as well and the lameness to even compare the minor hand cuts to stabbing someone 70+ times is pathetic and she’s not convincing at ALL.
My mom suffers schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. She was not diagnosed until her late 30’s. We we’re teenagers but knew her delusions could be dangerous. We constantly dealt with insuring she took her meds when became adults for fear she would hurt someone in order to save others. As we became adults with children we became even more diligent for fear she would harm our children to save them from “others”.
Mental disorders are serious but medication and monitoring can help. I do believe she deserves to be released but under some type of supervision.
My brother has schizophrenia and diagnosed at 30. He also tries to “save people” from others. It is a really scary thing and the sad part is is that most of them don’t think there is anything from with them so it’s so hard to get them to take meds.
What do you mean by save from others? Like kidnap a kid they think someone is after? I’m having a hard time thinking of situations
@@ElinWinblad No. In my mom’s case she would hear voices telling her some people are bad or have a demon in them. She would want to protect people she cared about from bad or evil people. When someone is in that type of mental state you don’t know what they would so you have be careful. Thankfully my mom has been fairly good about her medication. In 23 years she only went off her meds 3 times. We we’re pretty quick to notice and get her help. We also do not allow her to live alone. Most of our life has been spent caring for her but we love her want her to have the best quality of life possible.

My father was institutionalized when I was a child after he attempted to harm our whole family due to his paranoid schizophrenia. He was never released and ended up passing away when I was a teenager. He was fifty two when the incident happened and no one had noticed his symptoms before that.
I would say if she truly is suffering from this, she probably shouldnt be let out. Schizophrenic people can manage symptoms but often times they take medications for a while and feel "cured" so they stop. Then they slip back into thier dilusions which can be dangerous. It isnt so much that they are dangerous all the time as, you never know when a dilusion will turn them dangerous.
My mother is paranoid schizophrenic. Currently in my 30's I've gone low low contact because of my children. She believes I've been replaced by "them" and often hurts herself attempting to remove items placed in her also by "them". This person is only safe to be around while she is medicated. When someone lives on their own independently there is no guarantee they're taking their pills.
Reading your comment touched my heart. And while you left it 5 months ago, I'm just reading it now. I also have schizophrenia in my family. I lost my uncle and my dad because of it. My brother now struggles with it as well. Keeping him on his meds was a battle and a half, but now there are medications that are a once a month injection. This has been amazing for my brother so far. It took time and patience and some hospitalization to get the right concoction for him, but he's back. It's been incredible for our family. Maybe worth looking into. God bless and best wishes.
I can't believe how calm the husband is. He must be in shock or just thought it was only a matter of time.
Strange right
They're Jehovah Witnesses. They believe differently about death.
From the moment you said she had behavioural issues from a young child I knew there had to be more to this. A child isn’t just straight up naughty and out of control for no reason. I feel sorry for her.
agreed, I thought the same. Unfortunate thing is, people rely on their religious beliefs to somehow "fix" the behaviors, when only medical intervention can help.
Don’t feel sorry she murdered her mom
The JW situation could also contribute. Abuse in that group is pretty rampant. I would believe she had religious trauma as well.
Grow up. Not everyone is a victim.

Never want to discount someone’s mental illness- but it’s so hard to understand this case because it really seemed like a vindictive targeted attack, even pressed herself against the door to keep the step father out. Usually schizophrenia makes a person more of a threat to themselves, very rare for them to kill other people. Either way, I feel so horrible for her mom. Even if it was due to schizophrenia, clearly she’s a dangerous person who needs to be kept in a psychiatric hospital for life so she isn’t a danger to the community.
I don't agree clearly you haven't work with people with schizophrenia there can be very dangerous to others I've worked with some so that's not true.
I don't think you're understanding schizophrenia when their paranoid and think people are trying to hurt them and think very unusual things and it can lead to the murdering others and hurting others. Meanwhile she kept calling me and probably at least 15 times telling me she can't wait to meet my children. Meanwhile I'm knowing my daughter is at her house! You talk about panic!! My daughter was found covered in blankets and pillows. My ex took me seriously and left the amusement park to check. Fortunately he was in time and my baby girl was was okay! My heart sank that day almost losing my daughter! Scisophrenia is beyond serious and they do try to harm others! I wish there was a cure but unfortunately it goes misdiagnosed or they stop taking meds which my ex mil did a lot! It's a horrible disease for anyone to go through or a family to go through trying to help. They think the meds are harming them so they stop in so many cases. Very sad! The problem is if they aren't monitored on taking meds, then it only gets way beyond control. Sorry for the long story, but yes they do try to harm others! God was on my side that day! My daughter is now 23 and I am so very grateful!
Hi Kendall! Unrelated to the video but I just wanted to say how proud I am of you and how far you've come. I first started watching your horoscope and early true crime UA-cam videos and now you have a DOCUMENTARY coming out soon???? The growth is amazing
Thank you for mentioning that she is Schizophrenic. My uncle was Schizophrenic & even though he loved his mother so very much, even he locked her in the house a few times threatening to kill her & she was lucky enough to call the police in time. She was also lucky that he had been institutionalised a few times previously at the Psych Ward & everyone knew of his condition. If you know nothing about this condition though, it can be hard to imagine someone being this delusional & dangerous. I would also like to say that there are many Schizophrenic people in the world that are not to this extreme & should not be feared.
Thank you for your stories, and heads up-you always look great, but looooving this look!
if she was truly in a delusion/ didn’t understand what she was doing to her mother… i feel so deeply for her. obviously it doesn’t excuse what she did but i can’t imagine being out of control of yourself and doing something like that. it’s just a very terrible situation and case.
When I was younger I had a lot of trauma and it led me to black out when I got angry. I hit my mom and had no recollection and it scared me So bad. I went to therapy and anger management and I literally can not allow myself to be in certain situations or I still will get so upset I black out. So I can totally get how a child like her could get so out of control
I am now 41
@@evalunloca i’m happy you were able to seek help ❤
This is not to excuse her action but it's tragic that no adult in her life recognised her condition and get her some help earlier. I know mental care isn't easy to get in the US but in this case, it seems like nobody even considered this. I wonder if her parents being religious effected the way they interpreted her behaviour somehow.
But she's always been horrible to her mum, always!
Another video! Thanks for bringing light to so many cases. I imagine that the families really appreciate it. Part of me feels bad for being excited about videos from you because of the topic.
Schizophrenia does not generally make people completely forget their own identity. The footage is weird. She is the complete opposite of all my schizophrenic clients I've worked with over the years.
Right and convenient that no one saw signs of it before this event? Usually there is odd behavior reported by the family and friends that helps make the whole diagnosis make more sense.
My cousin has what she has but he doesn’t go around stabbing people he just hears voices in his head and he sees figures that aren’t there so yeah but he doesn’t forget who he is. Sure he says weird stuff but that’s just who he is
@@starhunt1951Every person is different, including how mentally illness effects them. Your cousin isn't the template.
i don’t know much about schizophrenia or anything, however this seems kinda like a split personality disorder??
I’m not a psychiatrist but my 1st thought was severe dissociation / maybe fugue state
I adore how you always seem to have a pet close by and visible to the viewers ❤❤
So the husband didn't know Isabella was in the house before she did that to her mother? Or did she show up while her mom was in the shower? I don't mean to sound like an asshole but the husband could've tried a little harder. Its not hard to kick in a bathroom door. If I have to lose my life trying to save my wife, so be it 🤷🏾♀️
Thank you!! He said he didn’t know where she was? He hasn’t seen her in an hour. But she’s literally right up the stairs?? Really dude? Strange
I was thinking that to!! Maddd sus
My brother murdered his grandma and aunt in April. We believe it's due to schizophrenia, but he hasn't been diagnosed. We'll know early January at his next court date if he gets sent to an institution or gets the death penalty. It's wild.
if u dont mind answering as i dont mean to intrude but what are ur thoughts on him now, do u still forgive him or have u decided to cut off contact , sorry if this is insensitive its the last thing i want to be, im always interested in the families of crimes and how some decide to believe their family members are innocent even if all evidence points to guilty, rest in peace to ur aunt and grandma 💓
@nelljnfr I don't mind at all! Him and I have different moms, so it was his grandma and aunt on his mom's side. I haven't necessarily forgiven him, but I knew beforehand there were unaddressed issues and I didn't have any say to get him help, so I'm more so focused on trying to make sure he gets institutionalized. If he gets sentenced to death, though, I understand and won't fight it. His mom's side of the family has disowned him. They ask me for updates but have no interest in seeing or speaking to him. He hasn't communicated with any family since his arrest. We're still unsure if he knows what he did or why he did it.
Gosh, that's awful for you and your family even if you're not directly related to the victims. I hope your brother gets the treatment he needs and that his mom's family get peace somehow.
I am so sorry you had to go through that. My twin brother developed schizophrenia many years ago when we were teens. He believed other people were being replaced by robots that were trying to kill him. One time he broke into someone's house to escape the robots and they found him totally freaked out in the basement...we're lucky one of them knew my mom and she was able to get there in time to de-escalate things...I would like to think my brother would *never* actually hurt anyone, but he's huge and was very scared and thought his life was in danger...so I don't know. He's luckily doing much better, he's in a group home and has lots of help. But I can't imagine how things would be if he had hurt or killed someone before he got help.
Ur so brave for sharing your story please know I appreciate you
Kendall your filmmaking skills and journalism have come so far! I seriously can't wait to see the documentary
I’ve heard about her and her case so many times but I’ve literally never heard about her schizophrenia a single time, It’s such a critical piece of this case and it had just slipped through all the cracks of information and never got to me, while it doesn’t change how horrible everything is it does influence my opinion on her a lot, thank you for bringing this to me!
There are so many nuances in cases like these. I wonder when the onset of her schizophrenia began, or if this is something she was living with for a while that had gone unaddressed regardless of warning signs. It’s hard to say. Her families mentioned behavioral issues from a very early age and then something like this happens in adulthood. Makes you wonder. How long was she living with untreated illness
I agree with you on that. And her parents being Jehovahs Witness probably means she would never have gotten treatment being as they do not believe in a lot of medical treatments. This more than likely could have all been avoided had they gotten her counseling when she showed aggression at a young age instead of just sending her to live with dad.
@@erickaasadullah5513 This is not true Jehovah's Witnesses accept medical help including that for mental illnesses too. We just do not accept whole blood transfusion and blood products, we do accept alternatives though. I think maybe the parents didn't understand their daughters problems or worried about the stigma it might bring her. Any parents might feel that.
@@erickaasadullah5513That’s not true.
@@saudylarin8728 How is it not? And I said “probably”. I’m going off how my sister in laws family has been with all medical treatments/therapy/counseling being as they are devout Jehovah Witnesses. Maybe not all are like that but there are certainly some.
Point being, she murdered someone. Fuck her mental illness.
I have no idea why people are foaming at the mouth bc she has/had a mh issue. Focus on the crime, not her personality ffs.
I love your take on all these cases. It’s refreshing seeing those actually care for people and justice for victims. ❤
thanks for posting videos!! I always have something to watch when I need a break from school😩
This is so sad. I cannot imagine what her mom was feeling right before she died 😭
Mixed feelings. I'm glad they got her mental help instead of just putting her behind bars right away because that's clearly what she needed. But I do think she should still do some jail time.
if she was psychotic during this incident, why would she deserve to be put in prison? do you know how awful those places are? why would you advocate for someone with the most severe mental illness to go to the mental-illness-making-machine (prison)?
that sounds like punishment for the sake of it, a barbaric eye for an eye punishment style. if she was genuinely in a psychotic episode, it’s literally not her fault, hence the “not guilty” part of her verdict.
i am playing devils advocate here, as i think she’s lying about her schizophrenia. but this goes for all psychotic people who don’t know they’re psychotic.
@@XYZ-kb3mm i get your point tbh. But yeah like I said mixed feelings for sure. I don't really know the right answer.
She definitely shouldn’t be released back to the public. Her interview in 2020 does not seem genuine at all and even if they evened out the chemicals in her brain so she doesn’t have delusions I dont believe she has empathy (as you can tell from the interview) she needs to be locked up somewhere forever
I requested this one!!!! Thank you for doing this case Kendall!
What if this was all pre-meditated and she is just faking, put Cecelia on the email to cover her story. Wouldn't her father and step-dad have said, "She is mentally ill, she doesn't know what she is doing" to the cops? I think she definitely has issues, but she is trying to play the victim. " I was sick, I was abused, I was abused again in this place, I have cuts." Serial liar is what I think.
I am sitting here watching from the UK with my cat Gerrard. He keeps tapping the screen each time your cat comes on screen. Thanks for your sensative coverage.
That's adorable 😻
Thank you for shedding light on this case 💕
So I never comment and I haven’t even started the video yet but as soon as I clicked it I was like wow!!! You are just so beautiful (as usual( I’m just loving the color pallet today on you. Your eyes are literally stunning! 🥰
You’re my safe spot 🖤 I haven’t been able to listen to you for a couple months now & just hearing your voice just now was relief 🥺 thank you 💕
hi kendall. thank you for all your kindness in all your videos, love watching your content!
I believe you cannot fix someone like this. There are no winners in this case. This is tragic for everyone involved. I do believe that if released, she will harm herself or someone else again. I do hope the best for everyone involved but no, she needs to stay where she is
Please do not speak on this. You don’t know anything about mental illness.
I agree
Schizophrenia is real, you know?
@@Daysholl they never said it wasn’t. you didn’t read what she said. her mental illness is there but with that extent of that murder she should stay where she is. if she’s let out and kills another person due to her mental illness, then what?
So excited about the documentary!!!
She doesn’t seem remorseful at all. Calling a brutal murder a fight in which she received scars is really odd and callous. No accountability at all. She needs to stay where she is. I wouldnt trust her to continue to take her medication.
In the hospital getting fluids and I needed a distraction!! Thank you for all your hard work Kendall. ❤
I hope you start feeling better.
I hope you recover soon ❤❤❤
Aww thank you guys so much ❤
@@catiem6130are you home and feeling better??
I am home I have to go every week because of my pots thank you so much ❤❤
Wow her calmness during the interrogation is chilling
I have a close family member with paranoid schizophrenia. Not a commenter normally but this is 100% in line with this illness. If it isn’t recognized by caretakers it can progress quickly and be dangerous. It CAN be treated with medication effectively (took about a year for my loved one) Many times once treated the person has no memory of illusions or actions. My heart goes out to everyone involved. And I’m so sorry for this awful loss. It will likely take this young girl years to fully understand what happened and a lifetime to cope. 💔
I was smiling like a proud parent while watching the trailer. I’m so proud of you guys 🥰
The dad had such a bizarrely cavalier attitude towards all this. Saying oh I thought she was just punching her, like dang dude. Your home life is seriously messed up if you thought your daughter was ‘only’ pummeling your wife. I feel like he wasn’t taking this whole situation nearly as seriously as he should have. If it’s the norm for your wife to get her a$$ kicked by her own daughter on the regular you have some serious problems in your home.
Agreed.
Unlesss you know this man personally I don’t think you can judge his reaction, he thought that she was just pummelling at her and went up to see what was happening then he was locked out. Maybe his body went into shock people don’t grieve the same
@@ambershoba"He thought that she was just pummeling at her." Do you hear how ridiculous you sound?
@@ambershoba Wow, your home life must be a shitshow if you think it’s normal for people to go around “just” casually “pummelling” their own mothers.
He’s also her step-father, and she moved back in at 14 (?) so it’s unlikely they were on good terms. Why he didn’t step in when his wife was being stabbed 79 times is so strange. No shot he didn’t know she couldn’t defend herself and he’s such a big guy.
Thank you for such good productive content Kendall. You’re so appreciated!!
I can't wait to see the documentary. Be safe to you and your family. Exposure of corruption can be hard on you all.
I don't know how I feel about this one. Rest in peace Mom. Hope she gets help she DEFINITELY needs!!
Poor Yun-Mi. I feel so terrible for her. Isabella should never be free and let out into society again.
I saw the interveiw of this and it was mindblowing, great video ❤
omgggg im from new orleans so i screeched when i saw the superdome in the trailer!! I always love your content, but when its so close to home (like the video you did about the woman found dead in city park a while back) always has my heart. Also, so happy for yall!
Edit: the woman I was talking about is the same woman!! She was found 2 miles away from where I live :(
Please do this case Shanda Renée Sharer (June 6, 1979 - January 11, 1992) was an American girl who was tortured and burned to death in Madison, Indiana by four teenage girls. She was 12 years old at the time of her death.
You are such a compassionate yet very strong lady... Please stay as you are... The documentary looks amazing
Kendall and Josh taking over the world and i am here for it. Congrats on the doc Kendall so proud of you. Your beautiful generous heart has helped so many victims. Thank you for fighting for them. Have a great thanksgiving.
I normally listen to these as a podcast but when I clicked this and saw you, I had to comment. You're looking GORGEOUS. Idk if this is how you always look or if you did something special but it's working
PLEASE DO A GRWM AGAIN! I remember watching them in high school and they were my favorite! So glad to see you are so well-known on this platform! Love that you came up on my page today!

Can't wait to see your next documentary!!! Best wishes ❤
Murder is murder…..she belongs behind bars for life!!!!! I don’t believe she’s “cured”
Metal illness is no joke . I was with my partner for 34 years that had bipolar disorder , and the countless episodes were very scary to me .
Some of her episodes were just wild, and i felt powerless , because her brain didn’t understand logic when she was having an episode.
I lost her several years ago.
Girl cannot wait for your documentary!
My grandmother had schizophrenia and went unmedicated for many many years...she never tried to kill anyone.
So excited for the documentary! ❤
She is not remorseful, she need to stay where she is before another person become a victim!
"I am not nentally ill anymore?" Girl thats not how it works.
She thinks her 1-2 inch scar is as bad as her mother losing her life.
In no way she is no longer delusional.
I'm excited about your documentary 🙌🏼
Kendall you look so pretty! I love your hair and the fall sweater is so cute. Can't wait for the documentary! I know you all work hard on everything you guys do and I am looking forward to it 💜
There is no cure for Schizophrenia. Isabella may very well be managing her symptoms but medications do lose their effectiveness over time. I am sad for her and Yun Mi of course. But for her sake and the public's, she needs to be monitored for life .
I think at the time of the attack she was in a right state of mind, maybe realizing wjat she did activated the 'psychotic episode'...
Something dosent sit right. I wouldn't want her living in my neighborhood
Girl I'm so excited for your documentary that looks so good and I know anything you and your husband put together is going to be with the utmost dedication and quality I cannot wait girl🎉❤
