Amanda Riley was an ordinary girl living in Northern California until she wasn't. She was a teenager when she was introduced to the Riley family and, within a matter of years, started a relationship with and got married to Cory Riley. Then, a few years into the marriage, Amanda shared that she had cancer. For the next several years, she would use her blog to describe her journey with the disease and garner sympathy from people in her community and beyond. But the truth? Amanda wasn't sick. She never had cancer and never needed the THOUSANDS of dollars that people sent her for treatment. Thanks to Nancy Moscatiello, Amanda was exposed and eventually prosecuted for her crimes.

I was diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer back in February. It was life changing. I am now cancer free but this story is so disturbing. Absolutely disgusting.

the thing about having a terminal illness that these narcissist scammers don't get, is the grief. when you know you're going to die, when you really know it, it changes you. you carry yourself differently. it's not something you can fake if you've never experienced it.

Unfortunately her only recourse here would likely be a civil suit - and I’m guessing these two deadbeats don’t have any money
In our community, a young girl had cancer. She and her family shared their story on social media. The small town came together in a big way. Donations, charity events, fundraisers and all the rest. All the while, the girl would participate in school and other activities when she was able and updating us when she had to miss school. When she lost her hair, other girls shaved their hair in solidarity. Most importantly, she started a cancer fundraising organization to continue after she was gone. She was such an inspiration to everyone and maintained a positive attitude.
Sadly, she died at around the age of 20. What a tragedy. Her spirit will live on through her amazing life and quiet death. So, this scammer really pisses me off. I’m crying as I write this.

I took my mom to a cancer center to get her results. We thought she had cancer because of blood work and it turned out there was a lab error and she did not have cancer. The anticipation in the waiting room sucked the life out of both of us. How Amanda is comfortable doing this is a new level of evil.
It’s such a horrible feeling, we lost our very young aunt 3 years ago to terminal cancer and septic shock. The doctors kept her alive until we got there. We all thought she was going to be non verbal in ICU I cried immediately when I saw her laying there, turns out when she saw us all she immediately became alert and talked and even made us all laugh until we were almost peeing our pants. She knew she would pass away later that day. She made the choice to end the treatment and chose to pass alone at the hospital which was super heartbreaking.
I’m glad ur mom is cancer free! I’m sure it was an awful wait. Cancer can be soul crushing.
I’ve heard it’s slightly common to get false lab results regarding cancer.. which is so terrible
This is so relatable. My mother had a false alarm a few years back when her tests flagged for metastatic breast cancer- turned out it was an error with testing… but the entire process was heartbreaking and stressful.

I work in oncology and this story shakes me to my core with rage. This woman IS cancer. What an incredible insult to cancer patients and their loved ones. What a stain on humanity.
Agreed. As a RN who worked in gynecology/oncology watching poor, suffering women with terminal cancers was really difficult and hearing this faker , scammer makes my blood boil. What a truly despicable person, including her husband she is..
My mom passed away exactly a week after my 15th birthday from a rare soft tissue cancer. I watched her wither away. She is still the sweetest person I've ever met, it's still so hard for me 10 years later. The fact that people can fake having cancer and then monetize it, disgusts me. I can't believe she's still sticking to her story even after being served a prison sentence.

Sadly, I have to admit it’s stuff like this that makes me hesitant to donate to people.
Same! Also I will no longer donate to people on the side of the road anymore either. My brother-in-law is a recovering heroin addict and he used to hold up a sign that said father of three need your help. And he has zero children. But he said he used to make Like $300 to $400 a day doing that. So I’m always hesitant because I do not want my money to contribute to something bad happening. And it sucks because I’m sure there’s a lot of people who truly are homeless or truly are sick that need help.
My mother was the same way. She would only donate to maybe 3 or 4 that she knew were 100% legit, one being the Lions Club.
If I were in a financial position to donate, I'd probably be wary of people asking for money on the internet. But that's probably the single most damaging thing about these cancer scams, people who actually need help are getting fewer donations as a result. Be smart about it and do some research. Be hesitant, but maybe don't let that stop you from ever donating to someone.

@@LoveLunaFamI used to have this sort of mindset and I get where it comes from, but I’ve learned a lot lately about harm reduction when it comes to addiction. The way I look at it I would rather them have the money to buy their substance of choice rather than do something dangerous to get the money. I’m also of the mindset that we need to provide spaces where people can use under medical supervision to prevent overdoses and diseases from shared needles. Other countries do this and addiction rates have actually decreased. I’m from the US, btw.
Kendall, PLEASE look into the missing kid, James Yoblonski from Devil's Lake Wisconsin. The situation is very odd, he has been missing since June and is about to turn 14 years old, with no sign of him coming home. There hasn't been much coverage on this and I think you could get the case the attention it needs!

She does have a case request form, but she gets thousands of requests, so it would be best to reach out to one of her channel members and ask them to request the case… as members’ case suggestions get priority over those that aren’t channel members.

I’m completely baffled as to how they were able to smear Alita as a drug addict in court and get her kids taken away with NO proof? While also claiming to be bankrupt, and seemed to be under the impression that child support is MORE expensive than full custody??? Where were the drug tests for Alita, where were the bank and medical records from Amanda and Cory? When my boyfriend was fighting for custody of his son, EVERYBODY got tested for substances. Also, would all the labs done during a pregnancy really not detect cancer? I’m so confused how they got away with this for so long, especially with the court involved.
It's nearly impossible to fight against false child abuse allegations, look at the Take Care of Maya case that just concluded. The mother unalived herself to get her child, Maya, who has a rare disease (CRPS) out of the hospital where she was being medically kidnapped, was SAed, battered, etc
@@mikusheadphones countless laws were broken in that case, I consider it pretty extraordinary, and not something I’d compare to family court. I’m speaking from the experience of people close to me, who had to actually provide PROOF of things to the judge, and I’m just really confused as to why the judge in this case didn’t feel the need to see any, before awarding custody to a couple who claimed to be bankrupt and terminally ill.

@@heavenjb judging by how justice seemed to work in their area, it would probably take more than bare minimum effort to prove he knew, so why bother amirite???? A civilian journalist had to do all the legwork here and built the case based solely on public info that the family court judge or other investigators could have looked into at any time. It’s wild.

Omg I remember Mrs. Riley 💀 she was my English teacher in middle school but she was almost always absent because of her ‘treatments’. Its a shame because at the time I really loved her as my teacher and she didn’t even tell us students about her ‘cancer’ right away, so it was even more of a shock to find out she was faking it all along

My mother was completely fine only 48 yrs old, she went to the Drs with a bad belly one day, she was diagnosed with terminal cancer, told she had a few months left to live and died 4-month later August 15th 2021.. our family has never recovered. I hope this woman rots in hell.

There's a tiktoker whose whole thing is being homeless and her backstory seemed suspicious so I went all the way back to the beginning of the account and saw her tiktoks from before and during her losing housing and her backstory is fully misrepresented.
If people knew what really happened they would have way less sympathy because the whole point is she was presenting herself as a victim of circumstance for support and donations.
And all I had to do was go far enough back on the same account to see this. It's ridiculous man. And she has her fans hard-core trained to shut it down when new people come in and start seeing that it's not adding up and ask questions.

There's a UA-camr that I followed named HojuSara and I remember when she FIRST started her vlog about getting cancer there were comments on her page of people thinking she was faking it and some of them had cited Amanda Riley and other stories of cancer scammers. I thought it was heartbreaking to see those comments and how much harm these scammers do. Sara died earlier this year form her Leukemia. It took her within a few months of discovering it. She was only 31.
Oh how heartbreaking 💔 no one should have to spend their last moments proving their illness. People like Amanda cause a ripple effect on everyone 😢

What a disturbing story 😡 My Dad had lymphoma and passed away December 2023. He was in remission for 3 months. He struggled with his cancer and to hear that someone is out there faking such a horrible illness and with a smile on her face. So very upsetting for all those people battling a real illness.

My mom died of metastatic gastrointestinal cancer on the 9th of June 2017. Six and a half years later, the grief is still numbing. What made her death more traumatic is that she was given her diagnosis in April 2017 and was gone exactly 6 weeks later. We didn't even have the chance to process anything before we were forced to be planning her funeral. She left me and my then 13 year old brother behind.
When people want to use cancer falsely, for social media content or even worse, for scamming people, they re-open wounds in those who of us who actually lost people we love to the disease.

I've listened to the Scamanda podcast, and it has some extra details about her life - apparently she also scammed her way into a principal position at a school and terrorized the teachers who didn't buy into her nonsense. Like, screaming at them, demoralizing, gaslighting - and, of course, she would be gone most of the time due to her "cancer." Not to mention the other teacher included in the school fundraiser actually died of her (very real) cancer; who knows if she might have had a chance if Amanda hadn't diverted 50% of the money to herself. Awful.

I had hodgkin lymphoma two years ago and I am still processing what happened to me. Apparently I had the ¨good cancer¨ and I was young so I felt like I could never complain because others were having it way harder than I. I felt guilty talking about my cancer while actually having cancer, how this woman doesn't feel guilty for faking it, it's wild.
Not all heroes wear capes. I say kuddos to Nancy for exposing Amanda for who she really was and not giving up or allowing Amanda to continue getting away with her scamming and lying.
My ex's family actually knows her! I remember when this was happening and his family would always talk about her. They even donated money to her even though they were financially struggling. When the truth came out they were PISSED!
Just a note: Cancer and chemo don't necessarily make a person look sickly. My mom has stage 4 metastatic breast cancer and she was still able to go to work even when she was receiving chemo. She lost her hair, but that was the only way you could tell she was on chemo. In fact, a lot of people don't even realize her cancer is stage 4 because she still looks healthy. I'm sure it affects people differently, of course, and I'm not excusing Amanda's behavior since clearly she was not sick.
Absolutely. My fiancé actually looked and felt better during chemo (not chemo days or the day after but all the time between treatments) because the cancer itself was so bad the treatment made him better very quickly. He also worked from home the entire time.
My grandmother had stage 3 breast cancer, she underwent chemo and you would have never known, she didn’t look sick and she didn’t even lose her hair. She’s been cancer free for 3 years now.
Chemo kicked my ass. I was pale bald and lost 30lbs. But on my good days I looked healthy.
I was thinking the same. In fact, I didn't lose my eyelashes and eyebrows until the end of chemo. It did kick my butt - my energy levels were up & down. I always crashed 2-3 days after chemo.
Chemo about killed me. No hair, no eyelashes, no eyebrows, exhausted… and I realize we all have different chemo cocktails based on our cancers. I had to have the red Devil. I had nooooo hair for six months plus and felt awful the day of and for 4-5 days after. I wish I’d had this “chemo lite” that others seem to have had. 😅

I just lost my grandfather to cancer two months ago. He was my favourite person in the world and it broke me to see him fade away little by little. This video made me so angry and i caught myself hoping that this horrible person would actually get cancer just so she would actually see what it is like and fully understand how evil her actions were.

My aunt just died from cancer a few months ago she literally was in so much pain that she secretly stopped taking her pills and nobody knew until she went in for a scheduled surgery and they tested her and saw how bad things have gotten 😢 this story is wild 😱

I was diagnosed with luekemia in 2014 and in 2015 I received a SCT (stem cell transplant) at MD Anderson. It was a difficult and long road back to living a normal life. I listened to this podcast earlier this year (it is seriously so good!), and my jaw just basically stayed dropped. Thank God for freedom of the press!
I’m glad she got the jail time she got. A strong message needs to be sent. All these people faking illness to take advantage of others are scum and take away from real cases. Imagine how many people would stop donating to real cases out of fear to be scammed.

My 38 year old son died 10 years ago with pancreatic cancer and the suffering and horrific pain he endured is unspeakable. Absolutely the worst cancer with so little funding for research. Nothing positive has been done in the years since he passed. This woman in this story is disgraceful and should be locked up for life.

What's hilarious is when I first started using tiktok one of her videos actually popped up. She was talking about a tumor that apparently wrapped around her spine and I was like... She's awfully flexible and doesn't show the signs of pain you'd expect from someone with a tumor like that. I watched a few videos, figured she was full of shit, and blocked her. I didn't want to get shit from her followers for asking questions... Damn I should've you!
Depends how big the tumour is (I mean she didn’t have one so) but yeah my fiancé had stage 4 lymphoma and he had 6 tumours but only one caused pain. The spine and rib tumours we didn’t even notice because the one in his knee was massive so it hurt a lot more
@@Chelseabee55 I'm so sorry to hear about your husband. Dr grande didn't mention a medical work up. Where did you learn about her not having a tumor? Also, size isn't the issue as much as location. There are tumors that will cause wild behavior changes.

I love the SCAMANDA podcast & so glad you’re covering this!! I know you weren’t able cover all the details, but man there’s so much more shit that these horrible excuse of humans did or that happened during all the years of lying. I can’t stand them! I wish they’d been caught sooner before so many people became victims of theirs. I say theirs because I absolutely believe Corey was a part of it all. They are lying, cheating, despicable, horrible, hateful people. I hope karma really comes a bitchin’ in every aspect of their lives.

as someone who spent all of their childhood to teenage years in hospital (still dealing with it at 22) and being so isolated that i don't even know how to be social without being incredibly awkward now in my early adult years due to it. it boils my blood that someone faked it all for attention. i would love to be healthy and wish my most important years wasn't in hospital. i had a year to live if i didn't get my bowel removed, now i live with a bag for the rest of my life. it broke apart my family, we had no money my dad would sleep on a chair next to my bed for weeks at a time and sharing my hospital meals just so he could also eat, due to not having money for a hotel or food when travelling around to different hospitals, we never asked for help but here is this POS women scamming unknowing kind people for her own gain, disgusting.

This happened with my stepbrother’s mom. She lied to her whole family, they had a jamboree for her. She didn’t get 400k but still hurt her family severely and took advantage of so many who were generous enough to help!

Not long after my dad died of cancer my ,then, partners aunt came to see us. She was asking a lot of questions and then announced she had cancer. After she left I spoke with my partner and we did some digging. It turned out she was lying and asking me questions to make her story more convincing. It was one of the most disgusting things I've ever been through. She made such a huge deal that the drs has also said her children would likely get it as well because she had.

I have ovarian cancer but the worst part of this story is the custody battle. To destroy Alita’s life is despicable.
I am a triple negative breast cancer survivor and hearing stories like this pisses me off. 6 months of aggressive chemo, surgeries, 3 weeks of radiation, a year of immunotherapy. It was the hardest thing ive ever gone through. Next week will be 1 year since my last chemo. My immune system is still shot, i have scar tissue on my left lung from radiation. I coughed and broke a rib 2 weeks ago because of radiation. I will have life long challenges and worries of it coming back. Life is forever changed because of cancer.
Why didn’t people ask to see “receipts” like medical reports?
When I had routine gallbladder surgery, I was given a folder w all of my blood, sonogram, endoscope results, triage and discharge papers.

I watched both of my parents wither away with cancer. My Mama had pancreatic cancer and within six months of finding out about it, she passed away. I saw my sweet Mama take her last breath. That is life changing. And my Dad died from lung and bone cancer. So I watched them suffer so bad. This case just makes me sick to my stomach. Unless you go through a family member dying from cancer, you really don’t know how horrible it is. Thank you Kendall for doing this video. You are the best!❤

My granddad was diagnosed with cancer and died when I was six, and because of that for so many years of my life I wanted to be a scientist to find a cure for it. This story upsets me so much.
There is a cure for cancer... But no one is told that because it would cost those in healthcare TRILLIONS without having to do chemo and other horrible things. It's honestly disgusting more people don't know about it.

I saw this story when it came out. It amazes me how people are willing to help someone like that and still to this day believe her. I feel so sorry about the people that are really sick, and don’t get the help they need, because a person like this Amanda. So many scammers out there is very sad

i was diagnosed with stage 4 nonhodgkins lymphoma last year…it was brutal and completely devastating. it changed my life.. and to know there are people out there like this is truly disturbing and disgusting!
