Hi Mark, thank you for the amazing videos. I am a Sony ZV e10 owner with Sigma lenses but I do not know how to use and edit them as you are doing. Hi Mark, not so much a question about low light, but rather about the camera in general. I'm looking to buy a camera to use for film, but I am a total rookie. I was thinking about getting the Sony ZV1 before I found out about the ZV-E10, to which I'm leaning more now because of the interchangeable lenses for only a fraction of the price more. I was planning on getting it with the kit lens to start of with but it seems like a good idea to keep open the option of upgrading to more advanced lenses in the future once I've learned my way around cameras and film. However, if I'm spending this amount of money on a camera as a (somewhat broke) university student, I want to make sure I get the best deal for my money for the things I'm interested in doing. The things that I am interested in are creating memories type of stuff. Vlogging on holidays, make "aftermovies" of my trips, doing some sit down video, vlogging in my everyday life and some aesthetically pleasing (slow-mo) shots/B-roll. So I guess, to summarize, a mixture of vlogging and cinematic and studio type shots. From what I found online this camera seemed like a good fit, but again, I'm a complete rookie. I've heard the Canon M50 is also a good fit for this type of stuff. It has some advantages over the ZV-E10, like the better grip, EVF (I already own a Nikon D7000 for photography stuff, so not really something I take into consideration here since this is purely film, but an EVF is always nice to have) and usability, but then the audio is much worse and the shape is just less convenient for throwing it in a backpack on a skiing trip for example (bulky). Also the fact that they might stop the lenses for the M50 scares the crap out of me if I'm investing in that product. I'm really hesitant about which one to get. I've seen your comparison video between the two and you make an appealing case for the Sony, but I'm an eternal doubter when I do not get a professional's advice, so I was wondering if you could give your opinion on which one to get for the kind of things I listed above? I'm still leaning towards the Sony because I'm a sucker for slow-motion cinematic shots, but at the end of the day: what do I know? Thanks in advance.
I should add: the first time I'm planning to use this camera is on my upcoming skiing trip. Not planning on using it as an action cam. For that I have a GroPro. Just for the more cinematic shots and the vlogging segments inbetween the skiing.
@@charlesvda The ZV-E10 is a better fit than the Canon for you if you like slow motion and/or 4K. The m50 has a big crop in 4K and loses it's good autofocus in 4k as well. It also only does 720p in slow motion. The ZV-E10 does 1080 at 120 (slow motion). And the ZV-E10 4k has perfect autofocus. I would suggest that eventually you get a sigma 16mm 1.4 for your vlogging needs. Nice shallow depth of field (blurry background) and great in low light. Remember though - it is a prime lens - so no zooming.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Ah yes, I forgot about the 720p slow motion. Will definitely be going for the ZV-E10 then. Thank you so much for the quick response. Also, keep up the great work. Your videos are of great help to the average beginner like me. I love them. Cheers!

Hey Mark! Thank you for this great tutorial! Question about setting "detail" that you have set as "-7". Do you set it the same when shooting in normal light for HLG3 with ZV-E10? The Leeming LUTs actually recommend set this to -7 as well in their PDF file, but I don't remember you mentioned this in any of your ZV-E10/HLG3 videos.
@@spontaneity_mediayeah, I did some research since I left that comment and came to conclusion, that it's generally recommended thing to turn down details to "-7" on any picture profile, because it's basically baked-in sharpening, which is always better to do in post. And I think in last node too.

Hey Mark can you please help about the settings in PP2? What else did you change? How about details, sharpness, black, etc.? Thank you so much from Philippines 🇵🇭
Hi Mark , great vid ! What camera should you pair the sony ZV-E10 as an A camera if you want the sony ZV-10 as a B camera? and don't say ZV-E1, you seem to live in a colder climate while I am in warner 73 degree direct sunlight daily and the ZV-E1it will only give me 5-15 minutes of use in direct sunlight . No thanks 👍😊
Hey Mark, on the local used market someone is selling an a6300 paired with two lenses, one being the Sigma 30mm f1.4. The camera body is a bit damaged but still functions and in my opinion the price is right. Think it would be worth for an extra body and lense to pair with my other APS-C kit?
A second body is very useful for me. I can’t say if it will be for you, but a second angel is always great. So if the price is right - sounds good to me.
Dear Mark Bennett, I don't have an expensive computer for 4k shooting, I prefer to shoot in HD( zv e-10). Please give me best suggestion for best quality output in daylight and night situation (low noise) output and the picture profile... please help me. 🙏
Hi Mark Thanks for sharing that video it's just so helpful. Just please help me with details -7. I can't find it in my camera. I'm amateur try understand all bits and bobs. Thanks a lot
Great vid as always, Mark!! I am in the market for a cam and it's gonna be my first ever cam, i am settled between one of two options, first is ZV-e10 + sigma 16mm 1.4 and second is A7C with the kit lens coz i cannot afford for full frame lenses, but i am massively obsessed with the idea of having a full frame cam and might be upgrading to a better lens whenever i can. So, which combo will produce better results, ZV-e10 + Sigma 16 or A7C kit lens? i need it mainly for talking head videos in my bedroom, but i am sure i am gonna use it for photos and outdoor stuff.
There is another option that I think you might want to consider. you can get the A7C and the 16mm 1.4. the A7C will do crop mode and it will give you the same exact result as the ZV-E10. Later you could get a full frame lens if you want. I am actually doing a video on using the A7IV with the Sigma 16mm - the video from that combo is amazing.
@@pep3adeliola Yes. Many people think using an apsc lens on a full frame body isn’t a great idea, but the sigma 16 is excellent. It equivalent to a 24 f2 on the A7C and will give you better video results than the kit lens at the 24 focal length.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Canada is beautiful, I’m sure you can have a really nice trip somewhere there ! If I may ask could you please just write me some settings that I should put to do astrophotography with the ZV E10?
My tops were PP2, PP off, and Overexposed SLOG-2. I was pretty shocked at how bad Cine/SLOG-3 looked. I usually run +1.3 on SLOG-2 with my A7C so I could be biased 😅
Sorry if you’ve already answers this but is there a way to save these settings for low light to easily switch to them when needed and not have to adjust every time?
just use the kit lens for a little while. then you’ll start to figure out what focal lengths you like before buying more expensive lenses, what are you using the lenses for - what type of shooting?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis i'm doing cooking videos so i think a zoom lens might be useful. zoom in from a distance so i can freely work around and wide angle for thumbnail?
the sigma is better in lowlight because it’s a 1.4. the 11 is great, but if ultimate lowlight is what you’re after, the sigma 1.4 is the way to go. I will do a video on it explaining it - a lot of people have similar questions
hello Mark! I have a Sony A7RII for tonight shooting, but I am in a realLy low and flat light situation. I usually use the PP in this video with my zve10, but tonight I have a full frame, I think it performs better but I'm not finding the right picture profile! Do you have a tip? I usually film in HD, 100 fps, 1/200, F 1.8, 3200 maximum iso, PP2... I don't like the result, I have a lot of noise... I send you an example filmed by me in the comments thank u Mark!
I won’t be able to see your link because UA-cam blocks it. You can send it to my email if you want. the picture profile won’t help you much if you are in very low light. shoot with picture profile off and you’ll probably have to shoot in 25fps at 1/50 keep your iso lower. if you need slow motion, try 1080 50fps at 1/100 ant slow it down.
F*ck it! i'm just going to go with PP off. I've spent 2 weeks watching videos and messing with it all, trying to make correction LUTs work right on this ipad, that LG C8, and another monitor. yadda yadda yadda. PP off is perfectly fine. do a few tweaks, add a style LUT, boom goes the dynamite. don't need to try and make this little camera something it's not. let the europeans deal with that maddness! :P my plan now is to master content and style as well as davinci resolve (god help us), and then when i get an SIV, then i can start introducing myself to mr. paul leeming and the boys. who's with me!! @@spaul89 These tests took hours - and they need a controlled lighting situation or the tests are invalid. After watching this - it should be clear to use PP2 in lower light. I go outside constantly with this camera in my videos.
You can edit with proxies to make it easier on your co outer and you can shoot in a lower bitrate so that your file sizes are as small as 1080. Check out this video here ua-cam.com/video/qXU-NKQaV3Y/v-deo.html
Thanks for the video Mark. I do low light walk/talk videos of Toyotas, check my channel (light show videos) ZV-e10 with Sig16. What would you recommend for settings?
I just checked it out - nice channel!! That’s pretty lowlight so I would do what I said in the vid I would do PP1 or PP2. Or to make is super simple - PPOFF. Any of those three should do you well.
Remember that if you’re walking with the ZV-E10, the footage will be quite shaky unless you use a gimbal or catalyst browse. You can use the image stabilization the ZV-E10 provides, but you have to be quite smooth in your movements.

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis No I'm asking a question, is there a way to get a black and white picture profile on the ZV-E10?
@@EliseoWay yes it has the same ones as the a6100 including black and white plus many more options 👍👍
Hi Mark Thanks for sharing that video it's just so helpful. Just please help me with details -7. I can't find it in my camera. I'm amateur try understand all bits and bobs. Thanks a lot
It's in the picture profile settings
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis great thank you 👍
Great vid as always, Mark!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis So the sigma 16mm is better than the A7c kit lens, right?
@@pep3adeliola Yes. Many people think using an apsc lens on a full frame body isn’t a great idea, but the sigma 16 is excellent. It equivalent to a 24 f2 on the A7C and will give you better video results than the kit lens at the 24 focal length.
I usually shoot at night or choose cine 4 is ok, can you tell me what the pp settings are reasonable in low light? ❤
I like the PPOFF in lowlight. The image comes out clean and I like the colours
Hi Mark,
Subscribed to your channel, great content,
Are you planning to do a video of astrophotography with the ZV E10 and Sigma 16mm f1.4 ?
I would love to - I live in Toronto, so I’ll have to plan a trip somewhere where I can see stars 🤣
I usually run +1.3 on SLOG-2 with my A7C so I could be biased 😅
s-log3 and 8-bit don’t get along 🤣
Sorry if you’ve already answers this but is there a way to save these settings for low light to easily switch to them when needed and not have to adjust every time?
Use the recall memory option in the menu, you can only have 1 preset though
Just got a ev10 with kit lens. what do you think about sony 18-105 f4 lens? i'm considering getting a lens for the next few years due to low budget.
or 18-135 f3.5 - 5.6 ??
just use the kit lens for a little while. then you’ll start to figure out what focal lengths you like before buying more expensive lenses, what are you using the lenses for - what type of shooting?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis i'm doing cooking videos so i think a zoom lens might be useful. zoom in from a distance so i can freely work around and wide angle for thumbnail?
@@anchovy1503 then go with the 18-105 f4. The constant f4 will be very helpful p so that your exposure won’t change while zooming.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis once again, ur the best sensei on youtube about zve10. thanksssss
'This video will help you not be strangled by a mummy' - promises, promises, don't count on it!
It’s not legally binding
I must be the smartest man in the world that bought ZV-E10 to save money and subscribe your channel to save time
it’s true
Making comparison between sony 11 1.8 and sigma 16 1.4 in low light . Please !
the sigma is better in lowlight because it’s a 1.4. the 11 is great, but if ultimate lowlight is what you’re after, the sigma 1.4 is the way to go. I will do a video on it explaining it - a lot of people have similar questions
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis god sent you to review. Thanks
Where to find “detail -7” in settings?
And what camera are you using in the studio to record the video?
A7iv in this one - us the zv-e10 looks very similar - doing a video about it!!
Actually, they're quite different, even the A6300 and the ZV-E10. :)
Any picture profile can be changed to any picture profile, they are just presets
I send you an example filmed by me in the comments
thank u Mark!

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanks mark i sent you an email !!!
F*ck it! i'm just going to go with PP off. PP OFF! PP OFF!
PP off is great - and was one of the two best profiles basically in this test!! let it ride.
🙌🏻 I am using a6100. There is no picture profile but I adjusted colour in post production and appled lut.

Because of shortage of chips sony Zve10 is not available in India..
I sold my a6400 for Zve10 and 😶
The a6400 is not available right now as well. so you have no camera??
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis yeah it was a bad decision 😭... now I have two options sony zv1 or sony a7c... man I am stucked in the camera trap 😅
@@BagfullStories haha - ZV1 and A7C - I think you’ll be fine 🤣🤣
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I am in some serious camera crisis 😂😂😂
I'm watching this channel only for Sony zv e 10😅
you and almost everyone else 😂
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis 🤣
the image at 07:35 is much sharper than your other test in ua-cam.com/video/ctBTGenWeKc/v-deo.html @ 02:49 and 05:40 , is the latter not fully in focus? looks like a webcam compared to fx30.
You can't get complete idea of the picture quality in studio because this is a blog camera and you need to go outside and show the outside...
I’m confused - did you watch the video - all the tests were outside. Look at the time stamps if you want to skip ahead
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis by outside i mean on Street or at some market place at evening where light is not good... And i am not talking about this video only but other videos also which i see on your channel abt zve10,
@@spaul89 These tests took hours - and they need a controlled lighting situation or the tests are invalid. After watching this - it should be clear to use PP2 in lower light. I go outside constantly with this camera in my videos.
BUT with this knowledge - I will take the camera out to some nighttime shoots
I heard it's discountinued
Production has halted due to a worldwide chip shortage, but it’s not discontinued. Hopefully the supply issues will be fixed soon,
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanks for replying ,I love your channel
@@Sarth.g Thanks for saying that!! 👍
Shooting 4k sir is hard interms of editing a lot of complication
Pretty sure you need to sack your outdoor lighting person :P
He’s bad. But he’s cheap
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Yes but Mark, you're clearly the richest man in Ontario now, you need a real stage hand, a master thesbian, the best there is! :P
