We understand a lot of people have very strong opinions about this case and they're all welcome but please stay respectful in the comments section. This is Sam's opinion from living there, knowing the people involved and like many also studied all the evidence. This is his true crime story. Also a special thought goes to Meredith and her family, they were the true victims in all of this.

Here in the U.S. we are innocent until proven guilty. The burden of proof is on whoever is accusing u. Unlike in Italy where it's the opposite, guilty until proven innocent. Anyone can just accuse y of anything and is presumed guilty and somehow one has to defend themselves from allegations. Such a foreign concept for us Americans.

Me too. We Americans were outraged at the way Amanda was treated. Especially when they convicted her on the claim her DNA was on the kitchen knife. Every forensic scientist around the world was screaming that of course it was, they all shared the kitchen and utensils so all their DNA would have equal probability of being on it. But they didn’t test for everyone else’s DNA.

    • @yeetnama9094
      @yeetnama9094 Місяць тому

@@thickernellNo, you dullard. That's NOT why they convicted her.
They were literally caught red handed doing laundry and cleaning up their crime scene with a mop and a bucket when they got accidentally discovered by plain clothes officers looking to return Merediths phones that they had stupidly dumped into some random persons garden.
They didn't count on THAT happening.
      What "forensic scientists?"
The professional liar- for -hires that Amanda's rich daddy paid for?
There is no such thing as an "international forensic standards" that was totally inaccurate PR propoganda that they carpet bombed the media with.
She was CAUGHT bc she literally told police she was there.
After Raffele looked to save his own skin and rescinded Amanda's alibi by telling police Amanda was NOT at his house all night,
When pressed further by detectives Amanda implicated her black boss as the murderer and she placed *herself* at the crime scene
      while Meredith was getting butchered.
      She told police verbatim:
I was standing in the kitchen covering my ears from the sounds of Merediths screams as my boss murdered her.
Not only did Amanda LIE and maliciously accuse an innocent man of murder
( to which he sat in jail for over two weeks until he could clear himself, no thanks to Amanda btw)
Her creepy Harry Potter boyfriend had his DNA on her BRA CLASP
And then HE made up a story about Meredith eating dinner at his house and accidentally poking herself with his knife.
Amandas DNA was mixed with Merediths blood, that has NEVER been disproven, even the corrupt Italian judge whom the Knoxes helped buy and pay for admitted in his ruling that
👉AMANDA WAS THERE at the time of the murder,
      👉there were 3 (unknown) participants
👉Amanda physically washed Merediths blood off of her body.
The Italian judge was NOT a criminal judge, yet mysteriously, after multiple year long intense political and media pressure on Italian judicial system, a puppet judge was put into authority and he illegally tossed out forensic evidence
"Innocent people" don't need the likes of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump threatening and coerce Italian judges to let her go
      (Her parents are politically connected)
The amount of misinformation and misconduct is ASTOUNDING in this case.
This little psychopath and her boyfriend killed Meredith along with Rudy and bc they are White/Jewish wealthy and politically connected ONLY the black one took the fall for it.
Rudy has no damn reason to lie and just make up that those two were there.
Rudy fled to Germany immediately following the murder where CONVENIENTLY Amanda just so happens to have international Lawyer family over there to advise him.
Rudy even wrote in an email that he did not want to be in Germany.
There is a TON of evidence that Amanda did it. Her lamp was found on the floor in Merediths room, LIKELY bc Meredith ripped out Amanda's earring during the vicious gang attack.

As an American, I want to thank you for this video because it touches on the many fears that many Americans have about being abroad. One minute all is great and the next there is a knock at the door by the local police. And once that happens, the anti-Americansim rears its ugly head with the full force of law. I lived in Mexico for almost two years and although I never had any legal problems in Mexico, I did meet many Americans and some Canadians who were forced to pay off major bribes or go to jail for things they did not do.
I remember this murder case and I also remember hearing and reading the British press and the hatred for Amanda and other Americans. It oozed off the pages in the press on a daily. basis. While there was a massive debate about the case in America and about Amanda's involvement, most people here said that she should go to prison if truly guilty and be freed if not. While watching the case on TV, Americans started to see that Amanda was blamed solely because she was an American.
I never blamed Meredith's family for their anger because I know what it feels like to lose a family member to murder. And I fully understood their need for the truth and justice. But the rage directed at America and Americans by the European press made my blood boil. The way the Italians treated everyone connected to the case really left a horrible taste in my mouth. I remember Americans began to rethink their plans to visit Italy.
Sadly, the case is still not over for Amanda. The Italian justice system still wants her to return to Italy for some other judicial reasons. This was announced just in last few months.
I like your videos about your trip last year in the US. I'm a native New Yorker, but I have lived in Florida for almost five years now. Your trip took you all to two places I know well.

The anti-Americanism around that case was pretty eye-opening to me. It definitely tainted any desire I had to go to Italy. Even the British reaction was kind of shocking, although maybe more understandable. It really seemed to me that Amanda Knox had gotten railroaded in Italy, and it made me wonder how Americans would be treated there in general. Plus, I have met some Italians studying in the U.S., and they definitely seem to have negative views about the United States. So, Italy pretty much fell off the bucket list for me.

@@johnalden5821 I don't know if it was about America per se, but more about wealthy outsiders living in their country and town. And maybe she wasn't even that wealthy, but they see our pop culture and make assumptions about lifestyle and such. I think there's always some cultural tensions and the money outsiders bring can be a blessing and a curse. Same way a lot of cities and towns in the US feel about rising rents and home prices. A kind of hatred can develop pretty quickly.

@@ct6852 That's an interesting and valuable perspective that I hadn't thought about. It would explain a little bit how we saw Amanda as basically one of our kids: a bit sheltered and naive, maybe, but essentially innocent and trusting. They see someone, anyone, that looks like they have money and scam and steel anything they can from them. Some of the police and political leaders are famously corrupt. Doesn't have anything to do with the tourist's character or anything. And with Amanda Knox we saw that many locals and media were more than willing to scapegoat any outsiders if they could.

The UK and the US (and closely related cultures) are based on the Anglo-Saxon system, where a suspect is innocent until proven guilty.
Italy (and Germany, Switzerland, etc.) are based on the Roman system of guilty until proven innocent. The theory is that the state would not have charged someone with a crime unless they were guilty. The accused then has the almost insurmountable task of proving that the state has made a mistake.

I was in the navy over seas back about 85. I was serving on an aircraft carrier. Because our ship was so big and had nuclear weapons we weren’t allowed or able to bring the ship to a dock. We had to take liberty boats to shore on the days we were allowed to go ashore. Some one from the country we were visiting got murdered and some taxi driver said it was an American sailor did it. They had the local investigators and witnesses come to the ship. I and hundreds other sailors had to go through a line up one sailor at a time for a couple hours. On the day of the murder I had duty which meant I couldn’t leave the ship. I still had to stand in the line up. They arrested a sailor that day. He was held in custody for a long time. He was locked up for over a year before they realized he was innocent. I thought to myself it could have easily been me held in prison and I never even left the ship the day of the murder because I had duty. It was pretty bad that they just arrested someone who was innocent. The guy arrested was in the same line up I was in.

Italian police were looking for someone 'not Italian' it sounds like. Anyone especially an American student or an American sailor. How horrifying for everyone involved and how sad for Meredith's family. We have corruption here, too. In every sector of society it's pretty easy to spot unless one has blinders on or blind faith. Often the people pulling duty zero in and have tunnel vision - wanting to close a case quickly they'll pick someone completely random when it was the weirdo next door. Literally. When someone gets out of prison 30 years or more with the help of the Innocence Project, it's really sad the time they've lost, family, marriages.

Quite amazing to learn that you were associated with the people involved in that awful incident and were living in Perugia at that time. I remember reading about that murder and how "Foxy Knoxy," as the Italian media referred to Amanda Knox, was treated by the Italian justice system. It made me determined to never get in trouble with the law if I should ever manage to get to Italy one day. (My father's family came from Calabria.) It was fun watching you show your family your old stomping grounds, plus I’ve been to Italy twice..I love it there! My grandmother (dad’s mother) was from Italy. On my first trip, when I was a little girl, we had a chance to see the Italian police work. In Milan, my mom and brother and I were approached by a bunch of gypsy children, who distracted us and stole my mom’s wallet. We reported the theft and went to the police station to try to identify the thieves. I ended up feeling very sorry for the children-some quite close to my age. The police seemed quite rough on them.

I wasn't living under a rock but I'd put myself through nursing school and worked nights so my life was no TV, no radio, just go to school, eat, get a nap, go to nightshift, go home, rinse and repeat; and in the midst of it, I got married and had a son, and was up all hours. So I missed a lot of news locally, nationally, and internationally.
