Dad Resets Outdoor GFCI Outlets

  • Outdoor outlets not working? The most likely cause is that your ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) tripped. It’s an easy fix. If your GFCI won’t reset, it might be time to call an electrician. I am not an electrician.

    If your outlets are wired in series, as opposed to home run, and the GFCI isn't in the breaker itself, as opposed to upstream at an outlet as shown, then yes this works, assuming it's a GFCI issue and not a wiring or breaker problem.
    Some would go straight to the breaker to look but the video informs the viewer to check for this scenario first, which is fine if you have this set up.
    Some do, and some don't.

    So my front outlet did the same thing. I had my extension cord plugged in for some Christmas inflatables out front. It did rain but I noticed neighbors around inflatables were still up. So I tried to reset the outlet in the garage but it’s still not working. Any other ideas? Thanks 🙏🏾

    • @daddoesvideos
      @daddoesvideos  8 місяців тому

      Hmm. Are there multiple outlets on the extension cord? Sometimes rain will just sit in there unless you tuen the outlets over and let the rain come out.

    I can’t find mine anywhere! I tried all and it still won’t work. I guess I will keep on looking for a reset GFCI outlet but I went though all (only have 2)

      Yeh, keep looking. Has to be there somewhere. Bathrooms, kitchen, laundry room, crawl space, basement, garage. One of these places has to have it.

    Thanks you ! We live in a condo and have a string of patio lights strung around the fence of it. For years, when it rained, the GCFI outlet in our upstairs bathroom would trip and the lights would go out. I would press the reset button and a second or two later, it would trip again. We could not figure it out, but we ended up replacing the string of lights and somehow, at the very end (female plug), of the old string of lights, where it hangs down, had gotten partially buried in the dirt ! I think that when the dirt became saturated enough with water, that caused the tripping ?. I also replaced the patio outlet, and it hardly trips anymore, but sometimes in a really heavy downpour, the upstairs breaker still trips ! I'll have to make sure that the new outlet cover is sealed properly. Any other thoughts are appreciated.

      @daddoesvideos  8 місяців тому +1

      Yeh, I’d make sure the outlet cover is sealed properly and make sure the end of the string lights doesn’t dangle in wet dirt. Or if you are using any extension cord, make sure that’s covered or you shake the rain water out of if if it trips!

    Hello saw your video and I tried resetting mine in the garage but still not working. Also the actual plug outlet isn't working now either. I originally plugged in our power washer to the outlet in garage and then all of the sudden it stopped working. Tried your tips and still not working. All went to breaker box to reset it that way and still nothing. Any other ideas?

    • @daddoesvideos
      @daddoesvideos  3 місяці тому

      Hmm. Are you sure the outlet isn’t connected to a different gfci in the house somewhere? If not, maybe some wiring has become loose in the outlet. If you are comfortable, you can check that. Just need to turn off power to that outlet and remove and check wiring. You can always try installing a replacement outlet if you feel comfortable. Otherwise, I’d try an electrician.
