LaGolondrina, a theme song they played in my preschool years, back in the 1930s on KIEV. My mom listened to it daily, and the song haunted me thru my life until I finally found its name so I could seek it out. It brings tears to my eyes when I hear it.
One of the most beautiful moments in the history of the western and cinema itself. Peckinpah managed to synthesize all the anguish of the oppressed people, in the farewell to the combatants, even if dedicated to a not so noble cause. There is the harbinger of the end, everyone knew that those moments would not be repeated and that the future was not radiant, on the contrary. It really is a great movie, one of the great westerns in history.
This is, beyond doubt, one of the very best Westerns w ever made. I can’t watch this without feeling I’m there with then. I’d love to have this at my wake, when the time comes.
Las Golondrinas (song playing) is generally is a goodbye song sung mostly at funerals. Appropriate when it was being sung to them when they left the village...
I saw this movie I was in my 28 - remembering our action movies were westerns and WW2 movies. This movie, to me, showed the best of humanity…to be concerned with the poor. If you powerful you protect the poor!
And the " End Gunfight " ! i have seen this movie many time ...The first was in 1969 ( year of release ) . I remenber , it was as a gun bullet on my face ...too much !
what to start with for a great western like this ... we can live in an age when digital effects technology creates visual wonders ... but movies like this make you miss the time when the director's creative imagination and the artistic stuff of the actors performed wonders in the history of cinema like this movie .... if not the best western but certainly in the top five in the history of cinema ....
Very realistic movie , one the best ever realised , perhaps THE best ... John Wayne movies are too romantic and so far from the reality of the wild West ! Peckinpah R.I.P.
@@MrRazorblade999 You could make an argument for it, I think, even though I prefer The Searchers, having seen it earlier, and more, than The Wild Bunch.
A timeless masterpiece.... get the book .. just out... /The Making of The Wild Bunch/ fascinating and gripping. This scene makes me long for 'old Mexico'.... I experienced it.... God, family, devotion, courage, and sometimes violence.. but not the senseless cartel violence of today.....I hunted down the lyrics, memorized them, and now sing it.. it is so mournful.
Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch is by far the best western ever produced. Jerry Fielding's soundtrack is a masterpiece. I still own a vinyl copy and CD of it.
The machine gun carnage ending was based/inspired in Sergio Corbucci's Django (1966 original one) or maybe in Clint's Josey Wales ...still a timeless classic and shows us what real friendship means.
Ave querida Amada peregrina Mi corazón Al tuyo acercare Voy recordando Tierna golondrina Recordare Mi patria y llorare.
Thanks for the English lyrics of "Las Golondrinas"! The lyrics, about a swallow seeking shelter and a person who is also lost and exiled from their homeland and, therefore unable to give it, are so perfectly matched to the plight of the Wild Bunch and the dispossessed villagers that it's as if the song was written just for that scene! One of the, if not THE, greatest westerns ever!
Peckinpah at his best although all his westerns are great with 'Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid' possibly being one of the most underrated. I also love ' Valdez is Coming' directed by Edwin Sherin, brilliant and with a Sharps buffalo rifle!
I was sixteen when I watched this movie for the first time, a real cinema buff those days, discovering Ford, Kazan, Hitchcock, Bergman … From the credit titles to the last photogram everything fascinated me. For many years it was for me not just my favorite western but the best movie. However my enthusiasm for Peckinpah cooled a bit with the movies he made afterwards, maybe too much alcohol dampened his brain at the end.
The Swallow Where can it go rushed and fatigued the swallow passing by tossed by the wind looking so lost with nowhere to hide. By my bed I'll put your nest until the season passes. This considered a masterpiece now but it was hated in 1969. Only a few critics could see it for what it is. Just two years before the Godfather. I was taken in from the beginning.

The best western movie for all the time from the great Sam Peckinpah.
Coincido. Una obra maestra.
Obra maestra..
Towering masterpiece, as good today as when I first saw it nearly 50 years ago.
God, yes. I first saw it after I had just come back from Vietnam. I could hardly stand it. Still has (almost) the same effect on me today.
Thank you for your service.
This is, beyond doubt, one of the very best Westerns w ever made. I can’t watch this without feeling I’m there with then. I’d love to have this at my wake, when the time comes.
This and Alverez Kelly Two of my favourites. Holden-Garner-McQueen-Bronson-Coburn different class.

Perhaps the best western ever... Love & light from Brazil
William Holden at his best historical performance. You should listen to this music in stero .A strong combination of art and bravery and battle .

Saw this film at a cinema in Clacton on sea 1969 big screen fabulous! This was more like real
Unpopular opinion This is better than any john wayne western
Better than The Searchers? No, not even close.
Two entirely different things.
I agree
Very realistic movie , one the best ever realised , perhaps THE best ... John Wayne movies are too romantic and so far from the reality of the wild West !

Beautifully done!
Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch is by far the best western ever produced. Jerry Fielding's soundtrack is a masterpiece. I still own a vinyl copy and CD of it.
All I can say is TERRIFIC. I love the song at the end. Thanks for posting. Out.

The Swallow
Where can it go
rushed and fatigued
the swallow
passing by
tossed by the wind
looking so lost
with nowhere to hide.
By my bed
I'll put your nest
until the season passes.

my beloved homeland,
that home
that saw my birth.
My life today
is wandering, anguished.
I cannot
return home.
Dearest bird
beloved pilgrim,
my heart
nigh to yours;
remember
tender swallow,
remember
my homeland and cry.
this is for the gringos!

L'hirondelle
Rapide et épuisée
Qui s'en va d'ici,
Si dans le vent
Elle se trouve perdue,
En recherche d'un abri,
Et si elle ne le trouve pas.
Tout près de mon lit,
Je lui mettrai son nid
Où elle pourra
Passer la saison.
Moi aussi, je suis
Perdue dans la région,
Oh, bon Dieu,
Et sans pouvoir voler.

Douce hirondelle,
The best western film...
I read somewhere that John Wayne hated this movie because it destroyed the myth of the old(his) west!
He said the same for The Good,The Bad and The Ugly.
I just read about it. That's what makes this movie great, the director dared to show the ugly side of the frontier and the border towns.
It ain't like it use to be but it'll do
magnifico
