    Great job, everyone who says this won't work in Muay Thai, consider taking a look at Somrak, Samart, and Lerdsila.

    • @MMAShredded
      @MMAShredded  5 років тому +106

      Said by the LEGEND himself! Thank you Lawrence Kenshin. Been getting comments left right center that "ill catch a head kick" when I've mentioned the dangers of slipping with the same patterns or by abusing head movement.

    • @MEXTHAIBOXER
      @MEXTHAIBOXER 5 років тому +10

      Very very few fighters have the world class reflexes as Somrak, Samart and Lerdsila. Its a matter of time before you catch a head kick by someone who notices a fighter ducking so low. The head kick will end up landing especially by a fighter who ends his punch combinations with kicks. A few slips and ducks are ok but not that amount or dipping that low. A high tight guard is much more effective in the long term.

    • @LawrenceKenshin
      @LawrenceKenshin 5 років тому +30

      I agree with you, but how can you expect to be like them if you do not train it? Jeff doesn't do this against good kickers at all.

    • @MMAShredded
      @MMAShredded  5 років тому +39

      MEXTHAIBOXER, as mentioned in the video, I will use head movement when my hands happen to be low and its my last resort (whether the reason was due to bad habit or other reasons), or I am in a heated exchange and I rely on head movement reflex (which you need to drill it as Lawrence Kenshin stated) or if I am just having fun playing around with head movement (sparring) I appreciate you educating us on the kicking, but I will assume you didn't watch the full video because I cautioned everyone of the follow up head kick and even paused framed myself getting booted in the head. I never advised anyone to go into a fight looking to dodge strikes and I mentioned to not repeat the same head movement patterns.
      Also as Lawrence Kenshin stated, I adjust my fighting style depending on my opponents strengths and weaknesses.

      @@MMAShredded I do not disagree with use of head movement but the main problem is how far you drop down while employing it especially while moving out of range. Pure (extremely low) boxing head movement is just an overall bad idea in any kicking sport especially while moving backwards. Its simply a great way to get caught by an advancing opponent. Small slips and ducks are effective and great ways to set up counters but moving away and breaking posture isnt. To each their own I guess.

    Man, watching fighters slip punches and making their opponents miss every hit is so satisfying! You definitely have great anticipation and timing skills that I hope to achieve. The back stepping into the opposite stance seems like a good place to start improving my head movement. Thank you for the video Jeff. Much appreciated👍👌

      Keep slipping in orthodox stance, bouncing going forward in your stance slipping from right to left, and then change stance into southpaw and practice doing the same bouncing motion in that stance backwards and forwards.

    "The aesthetic dance of the body around the violence of blows" In boxing, bending and head movement are the most artistic of all the qualities a fighter has, avoiding the violence and letting you in a position to attack or avoid... Really nice video!

      One thing to add to the Head movement notes is that Anderson and Prince Naseem would dodge with hands down as counter balances for quicker follow-ups and odd angles, not to mention automatic underhooks.

      MMAShredded if you haven't checked him(?) out already, BJJscout is super technical, even with striking analysis. Case in point, his Conor preview just today.
      Speaking of Conor, this is a really really abstract and contentious idea, but are there ways to increase your reflexes and trigger speed for fighting? It seems so subjective but i haven't seen a video on that yet.

    • @MMAShredded
      @MMAShredded  5 років тому +2

      Yes I have seen a few of BJJ Scout's videos! And reflexes are developed through drilling over and over again.

    Thanks for sharing! I'm going to have to study this video and start training some of this stuff! Suddenly a lot of the "fancy" footwork that a lot of outfighters do makes so much more sense! I also like the fact that you quickly addressed the pros and cons of using head movement. So many people treat stuff like this as the be-all and end-all of what you would do in a fight, as if that's the only thing you can do lol They don't fully understand the context in which you're applying it and don't take it with a grain of salt

    Man i absolutely love that slipping and back stepping into the opposite stance. Do you think that could work in boxing? It seems to me you could really counter off of it. You Your first slip opens up a right hook to the body or the second slip opens up a left hook to the head or body. You stay pretty balanced through the whole move and if you were to keep your right hand up it could defend your opponent following with a right hook.

      That shit wont work against boxer especially if good a footwork or punching while moving or spacing there alot thay goes into head movement he only explain the basic shit. But one that certainly approve ur defensive skill is footwork. Slippin uses uo way to much energy and is easy to get counter if you predictable. Look boxer like PRETTY BOY Floyd NOT MONEY MAYWEATHER. Bernard Hopkins Sugar ray leonard Lomechenko they excute slipin and Footwork very well. Incorporate that in your game all this shit he teach in video will seem irrelevant no disrespect to dude he knows enough. But not enough to be constantly effective safe and confident to practice these technique real time. Because some are either to advane for some or just irrelevant because everyone naturally had the own way mean some aremot as quick some dont have the build footwork or eye coordination to lsnd shots aftet a slip. He need to show the footwork to build up these techniques hell does even included steppin at angles I mean there a lot thats goes into just slipinn.
