2005 Endeavor Spark Plug Change

  • The process isn't bad. Just have to set aside about an hour, relax, and just start taking things apart lol. The spark plugs (cyl 1, cyl 3, cyl 5 in back) are located under the intake manifold. The ones in front (cyl 2, cyl 4, cyl 6) are EASY TO GET TOO.

    I've done this several times. I always use NGK laser iridium plugs and change them every 70,000 miles. Our 2004 Endeavor has 342k miles now. I always replace the valve cover gaskets and the six seals at the spark plug tubes. Why? The spark plug seals will leak. Digging out remnants of the valve cover gaskets is tedious but you have to have a clean mating surface for the new gaskets. I always replace two valve cover gaskets, the six spark plugs, the six valve cover seals, and the intake manifold gasket (comes in one piece with six holes). The whole job is usually over four hours. One time it took seven. I'm getting old and trying to line up the valve cover bolts through the new gaskets was painful. You do not want to strip a bolt so fingers only at first. Good luck.

    I burned out all my coils with a bad alternator a month ago. Cycling out one coil at a time over a few weeks, got really good at pulling the intake manifold. Great to have a partner, probably got it down to 30-40 min. Best to just change them all at once if you can afford it.

    Yeah, if you find OIL on your spark plugs; you will want to replace the Tube Seals as well as the Valve Cover Gaskets on BOTH. Don't bother cleaning off the old plugs, you will want to use New ones after you complete the reseal. Rule of Thumb - Once you're there, do it right the first time or you'll be going back in again 👍

    Great video, but you should really get some rags and stick them in the intake ports to keep from any kind of sockets, washers,nuts or bolts from falling into your engine, that would be catastrophic, if you were to turn on your engine with something in the combustion chamber it will destroy your engine.

    I took the hoses off. Im here to remember where the rear valve cover hose went.. the bolt behind, the one that goes where the hoses are on that bracket, that back bolt..omg it fought me, did not want to come out. No way to get leverage at all, stayed hard the whole way out (thats what she said, cant miss an opportunity lol) but yea took me 3 damn days and alot of blood to get it out just to replace the rear valve cover gasket and now trying to remember where thst damn hose went

    I watched another video on how to change the plugs in this model of car, and it literally made me angry that they actually released such a poorly designed car to market. This thing is utter insanity. I mean, spark plugs should be easy for a novice to change, but this thing (if you don't know what, and where to disconnect things) seems very difficult to me.

    I know this is completely off topic, but have you had any problems with your a.c. drain plugging up and leaking water on to your passenger floorboard? If so, did you unplug it yourself or take it in? I've been racking my brain trying to figure mine out. Thank You for this video though, I'm gonna try and change my spark plugs when it warms up.

    • @Garage-wt5jl
      @Garage-wt5jl  6 років тому

      David Graves wow. Actually I HAVE. It was when we first got the endeavor. We had that exact problem. I fixed it myself out in the drive way. There is a clogged drain that you can access with a piece of wire clothes hanger. I believe that problem was what lead me to start making videos about the endeavor because there was little to no video about it, BUT there is a write up on the procedure somewhere online because that's how I learned what to do.
