I own this firearm. I've put 300 rounds through it so far and have nothing bad to say about it. Cleaning is a breeze and I carry it every day along with 3 extra mags. Yes, I did say 3. My only "complaint" is that tenth round is a bit hard to seat without a mag loader. The porting in the barrel and slide does indeed assist with recoil and makes this pocket sized 1911 manageable. I recommend it to any full sized 1911 owner as a great carry gun.

Wasn't the sell of Para to Remington one of the saddest things to ever happen in the gun world. They destroyed a excellent company. I wanted a 3.5" LDA for years and I kept writing Para asking them where they were. Little did I know it was probably lying Remington stiff answering my emails (literally years worth) saying "We are producing them they are everywhere " I was all over every online gun store and gun broker and Never found 1 new one
They made this to compete with Para Ordnance 1911 double stack Warthog. Para Ordnance made the first double stack 1911 45acp, the P14. Then made the P12 officer's size model, with flush 10 and 12 round mags that also took the 14 round mag. They even made a LDA model. LDA is Light Double Action.
I got a full size Rock Island 45 acp and I love it! This one is very interesting, double stack, 3.1 inch barrel 1911, 10 round chambered in 45 acp??? Really hilarious and I want one!
OK, well I like my full size 45 Rock Island as you have and I "have a need for it", just can't find a good holster for it, so was looking for a holster for it.@@golfgunsandcocktailschannel
I was amazed at the positive reviews and comments on the BBR 3.10 .45 that I saw! I own several 1911's...5", 4.25", and this 3.1". I've had the BBR 3.10 to the range and shot approximately 100 rounds FMJ through it, as I never fire hollow-points until at minimum of 100 FMJ rounds go down the new 1911 pipe. I had no stovepipes or failure to feeds in the first 100. Amazingly, the little BBR 3.10 was very easily controlled and no brisker than a standard 5" barrel due to the weight of the weapon with a full double stack clip. And, it shot a 4" maximum group at 7 yards, most of which were within 3". All in all I was shocked at how well it performed in every way. I actually feel as confident as I would with my Glock 30. I'll follow up with my further impressions after another couple hundred rounds a various types of ammo, but so far, I'd give this firearm a 9.5 out of 10. A little heavy for normal concealed carry, but if you weigh that against the firepower and knock down ability of .45 ammo, it would seem to be a very good everyday carry.
Well shit another 1911 I need to add to the collection. I'm still amazed at what you get on the rock islands for the money. I bought my 10mm 1911 from them because it's already had the parts i would have installed from factory. To this day the only unmodified gun in the safe.
Love the Rock Island 1911 series pistols. I own the hi cap model (14 rounds) 1911 like the para ord mentioned below in another comment. My favorites though are the TCM22 series 1911's and I hope that some day they will make a sub compact 1911 chambered in that round. Yes, I would (and probably will) purchase one of those mini 45's from RI. Great video, and I did subscribe.
This is very refreshing to see. Since so many other gunmakers are crankin out almost nothing but 9mm, plastic fantastics and hyper priced 9mm calibered 1911's....that offer nothing that cant be obtained from less expensive designs.
Good on you! I'm retired military and used to run the shooting range. You are the first reviewer that I've seen that has ever done a safety check beforehand!
I remember when Llama made the Mini Max .45, it had serious quality control promblems, but the ad was for a little bitty gun with a whole lot of great big bullets, great concept, I glad to see another attempt at this
I own this. I bought it when it was first introduced. I flipped over a small version 1911. Mine unlike the one in the video Has a red front sight and it is not ported. I was very surprised at how accurate it is. I carry it. I find it heavy with 10 rounds. But its way easier to hide than my commander. Love the gun. If your on the fence because its small buy it. You wont be disappointed.
I have always liked how Rock Island and Ket Tec have had the balls to *modificate* firearms and put their own ideas out there. Not all of them have panned out or looked good, but I do believe Rock Island is onto something here. I'd love to see it shoot first, of course, before I give them my money, but I've carried subcompact 45's before (Xds 45) and have always liked them. Never had any issues whatsoever, including control. Those tiny 45's are not as difficult to shoot as some people might think. Very manageable.
@@joeholtz5395 I know your pain. I let my daughter shoot my Hellcat and she liked it so much she took it from me. I had to go and get another one. I told my wife and she said I should have read the rules regarding having daughters. Apparently they can do that. As you said, Oh well.
I have a full size Tisas 1911A1 service special 45acp and I've ran about 200 rounds through it and right out of the box without a break in period ran hollow point ammo and fmj ammo with no problems whatsoever and still runs. 100% accurate sights are dead on. Very happy with this purchase. It reliable and runs every time with all the ammo that I've put through it. Also runs good not only with the 2 mags it came with but other brands as well. I like Rock Island but I also love my Tisas it's very dependable.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not questioning your point. Rock Island does make a baby Rock in .380 acp. I’m just saying. I figure you knew this already though.
This thing is a howitzer with a double stacked magazine that's pretty hefty. Don't let this give the wrong impression-it's weight makes it shoot the same with a full or nearly empty magazine and I was impressed with my accuracy the first time shooting mine. The ported barrel keeps you on target, recoil is tamed with it's heavy steel make, plus it's just plain cool seeing flames leap out of the ports in lower light. I chuckle every time I disassemble for cleaning and see the ridiculously short barrel in which the bore size is nearly a quarter of the barrel length.
I fully understood the word you use -hilarious, some people show their appreciation /approval/or bewitch via laughter and giggling or simply happy/merry just about anything.
Hello poor people learn to reload its worth the investment a day at the range is no less then a thousand rounds i cast my own and load my 45 acp has better accuracy then any factory ammo and its cheaper for me to shoot 45 then 22lr. Don't be intimidated by loading is easy and kinda fun! Go Dillon precision. If you can!
With slight modification a Pierce grip extension for the Para P10 Warthog will work on the Rock island magazine. Also with slight modification the Para P10 Warthog 13 round extended magazine will work. Hogue rubber grips for the Para will also work with a little material removal. Awesome little carry gun. RIA makes some great 1911 pistols, I've owned several in 9mm, 45 and the poor man's FN 5.7 the 22 TCM. Para ordnance also made some great 1911 pistols. The prices on the old used Para double stacks are continually increasing so Rock island has done a great job in filling that hicap 1911 void. Screw Remington. I have a Canadian made Para P14 limited in stainless that I will never sell. Awesome and accurate firepower. Learn to work on and tune your 1911, plenty of vids show you how to make your cheaper 1911 run like a 3 grand Wilson Combat. The RIA BBR gets 2 thumbs up from me.
The Jimmini Show lol.. I know dude, ive seen all kinds on mini’s, but never a fat little tank like this. Before i ever got to shoot it had already thought of trading off. I waited tho (covid bs set in) and thinking it’s physics didn’t really add up for a good shooter like the full size grand dad. But when i did finally get it out to shoot it i was very surprised . Still a tad more hop ti it but very controllable. You just gotta get use to the feel of its fat lil butt in your hand like a new girl. Hope you got to shoot it.
Gotcha. Yeah I will more than likely buy one when they become available. I have shot small frame glock 10mm, so I assume it should feel about the same.
allan brown ive been using an TX 1836 holster i bought for a Makarov but it fits it too. Its a lil chunky tho. I wear it wih a IWB in the kidney area. I have caught myself having to pull my belt to another hole.
Originally Para Ordnance did it with the WartHog, but Freedom Group bought and killed Para to sell Para Guns as Remongton. That went as well as you can imagine
I happen to like the Rock Island firearms They are very well-known and very well built and Extremely accurate as Well they also have a lifetime warranty! The only thing I would Recommend is instead of porting the barrel is toreplace it with a unsorted barrel and put a mussel Compensate on the barrel!!
@@matthewobrien2822 The slim is just a standard compact 1911? It takes 6 round magazines? If that's the case you don't need them to actually be "Para Ordnance" magazines, any 6 round 1911 mag should work, Mecgar makes good ones. You can also use any other size if you don't mind it sticking out the bottom.
I like how you brought our attention to the actual perpendicular through drilling of the barrel and of the ramp on the barrel. I was not aware of the effects of not having a ramp as part of the barrel.
I got my Wife one, now she has an M&P Shield EZ And This one, I own 4 Rock Island 45's and they are Just as Tight as my Kimber And my Cold Delta and Just as Accurate.
Back when I was shooting IDPA with my Para P14 Limited, I decided to take my P10 (Which is just like this) to one of the competitions to see how it would fare. I noticed NO appreciable drop in my performance from the full-sized p14.
No compensater necessary.... the ports take care of that. I LOVE MINE! Less muzzle rise than a SCCY 9mm. A dap of heat proof white header paint on the back of the front sight gives excellent sight picture. Just don't use Wolf ammo if you don't want to soot up the white paint, lol
May be the lack of high viz front sight is due to the fact that the gun is compensated. I guess the temperature of those gases would just destroy the material of any high visibility front sight
Possibly. But a tritium sight with a white surround would hold up. It's more the fact that Rock island doesn't put many high viz front sights on their pistols.
This is the first 45 cal I'm considering...My CCW is a sig p365...I like using Underwood Extreme Defender as my carry ammo...Their 45 cal round looks wicked for sure...This old guy does want a 45 cal at least for home protection and possibly CCW...
My EDC is a sig p365. I just bought this gun and ran a couple hundred rounds through it today. I ordered a alien wear holster for it. This well soon be my EDC.
Given that there's porting right next to base of the front sight, a fiber optic front sight might not be the best option...gases could easily discolor the fiber after a few hundred rounds. And hopefully somebody in the aftermarket community will come up with a mag base plate that will A) give you a thickened bottom and/or spur for additional purchase, and B) a couple of extra rounds in the bargain.
Pearce grips have finger extensions for it. I ordered 4. Likely to buy a 5th. As to adding rounds.... I have 3 para P 12 mags. Will have my local gunsmith modify them for my BBR 3.10
I will almost always pick the a hammer fired gun over a striker fire. comparing it to the g30 I wish they would have made the barrel the same or close to the g30 barrel length 3.78". I would like to see RI come out with a 4.25" with a 12-14rd 45acp.
I carry the BBR 3.10 during the summer. It's actually an awesome little gun. A LOT of snap to it, because it's the size of a G26, but chambered in .45, and for my winter EDC, a RIA M1911 A1 FS Tac, We the people holster, deep FBI cant at 430. Both have never failed me, the crappiest part of both is searching for the ammo. But I've gotten pretty known around my local Turner's, so I get the call whenever the loads arrive.
The spent shell case is from what i understand for NY state registration or NJ one of those goofy states pretty much when the buyer purchases the gun in that state the ffl would send the shell and buyers into to the local police for database storage
Negative. A store can volunteer the shell for the national database, but it is not required. States like new york and Connecticut for example just submit each version of a pistol they wish to sell. No mandatory submission exists. Too much work to catalogue each shell when barrels arent regulated and you can buy them on ebay
I like the 938. It's a 9mm so different caliber, thus not a real competitor, but definitely worth looking at if you're looking for a micro 9 sized 1911
@@TheJimminiShow awesome. yeah for sure on different calibers. I know RIA has one similar to the one you reviewed but chambered in 9mm just haven't found a dealer nearby that carries either on hand. Glad to hear your positive experiences with the 938, I am definitely looking to carry between these two.
Question....steel frame or aluminum? Kimberly has aluminum and they crack making Kimbers “Crap”! As for the spare spring having to be replaced at 500 rounds...that’s a lot like Kimber but 300 rounds less. Did I mention Kimbers were crap?
Para fixed the recoil spring issue with a dual captive spring, maybe one from a warthog or colt double agent would work. Only thing I don't like about them is the proprietary sights RIA fixed that.
This one has two springs as well. One is captive and non replaceable, the bigger one is the one that should be changed every 500 rounds. I would assume that the warthog spring should work since the Rock island is basically a copy of the paral warthog
Cool offering, but I have to wonder what the muzzle velocity is on a barrel with ports an inch from the bolt face. Will the projectiles expand reliably? The .45 is still subsonic out of a 5” unported barrel, I’m a bit skeptical of the performance. I’m not a fan of a shorter pistol in a heavy caliber, all it does is spray unburnt powder and make fireballs. There’s a reason compact guns use smaller calibers, the recoil is less and the performance is the same, but without wasting powder and mag space. In 9mm, this would be a 13 rd mag, would still be supersonic at 7 yards, and your splits would be closer together with more rounds on target.
If you don’t mind the grip ; to each his own, my concern is the 3” ported barrel. I’m curious what kind of velocity you’d get from it. From a defensive pistol standpoint that would be my concern
That's awesome and u don't have to pay for colt defender 90 markups and still get a quality gun ... For me to fire 500 rounds will take years... I'm deadly accurate even with years in-between range visits, u either know how to aim or always need practice ... Maybe a mag grip extension for the pinkie
This is a common misconception; the smaller the gun, the more recoil, and the harder to maintain proper grip. Compact should be the smallest genre a smaller framed individual should look for to have a comfortable, safe experience.
I had my recoil spring on my Para-Ordinance fail after a while. I had no idea what the problem was so I sent it back and they replaced it with a note. You have to replace the spring dummy. They didn't call me a dummy but you could read between the lines. I have the P12-45 just a bit more ammo so the pinky finger has somewhere to be. Its chunky and heavy with a surprisingly mild recoil.
See that's where the problem is, a 2011 has a removable grip frame that can be taken off of the upper frame. A 1911 double stack has a fixed grip module. The community doesn't need to make a decision, it needs to understand the difference in use the right term. There is a very distinct difference. All you have to do is look at the side of the box your gun comes in for the answer
You use “hilarious” like Trump uses “tremendous”. I knew what you were trying to say though-especially after I watched the vid here and then read your explanation, which is great btw. Thanks for the excellent presentation. My problem is I have big hands and I’m doubting the comfortability of this. Summer shorts-no problems with any printing, etc. Still, I think you’ve talked me into trying one of these. It’s just hilarious!
Haven't made it there yet, but on the way. If someone were to say... SIR! Do you want 10 rounds in your 1911!? I would say, YES! That is more than the other number.
I put my hands on one of these a couple weeks ago, and first impressions are positive. I haven't fired one but I think could make a good option as a backup carry or option for a woman to carry in a purse. Rock Island makes a nice weapon that is very affordable.

And the P13
I got a full size Rock Island 45 acp and I love it! This one is very interesting, double stack, 3.1 inch barrel 1911, 10 round chambered in 45 acp??? Really hilarious and I want one!
What holster do you use for it? I have "heard" that the mag release pushes in with some holsters.
@@samhouston5217 I never tried to find a holster for it. No need for it.
I have mad respect for Rock Island Armory
I don't know why it's hilarious? That's a badass gun .
Good on you! I'm retired military and used to run the shooting range. You are the first reviewer that I've seen that has ever done a safety check beforehand!
I have big hands. Love the side by side mags. Rock Island makes great fire arms.
I remember when Llama made the Mini Max .45, it had serious quality control promblems, but the ad was for a little bitty gun with a whole lot of great big bullets, great concept, I glad to see another attempt at this
I think the way they modificated it looks pretty nice, personalitally.
I own this. I bought it when it was first introduced. I flipped over a small version 1911.
Mine unlike the one in the video
Has a red front sight and it is not ported. I was very surprised at how accurate it is. I carry it. I find it heavy with 10 rounds. But its way easier to hide than my commander.
Love the gun. If your on the fence because its small buy it. You wont be disappointed.
I honestly trust my life with a rock island 1911 over any kimber any day of the week ria makes damn good 1911s

I bought a BBR 3.10 1911 A2 and I like it . Now I have 2 Rock Island the Tact II and the BBR 3.10 I love them both.
Bbr is a downgrade from the original para design because the para could take extra slim aluminum grips
Miss my xds. Let my LE kid borrow it. It's been his backup for years. Oh well
@@joeholtz5395 I know your pain.
Ahhh. The old baby rock... The porting is new. But the pistol has been in rock islands catalog for at least a decade
I regret selling my Para Ordinance Warthog.
I don't regret buying it :)
Still have mine, it looks like I carried it in a bag of rocks, the finish was garbage. Still love it.
I fully understood the word you use -hilarious, some people show their appreciation /approval/or bewitch via laughter and giggling or simply happy/merry just about anything.

What a lovely, compact and capable carry gun.
Beautiful.
This is a rebranding of the Para Ordinance p10-45/Warthog
I have this gun and I love it. It shoots amazingly well for such a small 45.. its now my EDC.
Jokes on you.
What do you mean the jokes on me? I love the little guy. Like I said I want to buy one. I just think it's a hilariously small double stack 45
How well does it conceal and what holster do you use . I'm thinking of trying to get one but that thick grip seems like it would print pretty good

Looks like a para warthog
That's actually pretty cool, who would've thought about making a compact 1911...
Originally Para Ordnance did it with the WartHog, but Freedom Group bought and killed Para to sell Para Guns as Remongton. That went as well as you can imagine
I happen to like the Rock Island
firearms
They are very well-known and very well built and
Extremely accurate as
Well they also have a lifetime warranty!
The only thing I would
Recommend is instead
of porting the barrel is
toreplace it with a unsorted
barrel and put a mussel
Compensate on the barrel!!
Reminds me of the Para Ordinance Warthog, same thing really. Another one to add to my posible someday list.
I had the warthog and went to the slim hog. Any recommendations for locating para mags?
@@matthewobrien2822 The slim is just a standard compact 1911? It takes 6 round magazines? Not gonna lie if I got that I’d get an extended mag and a compensator to make up for its size lol
You ain’t wrong. My G27 is carried and configured as a 16 shot G22X for most of the year soon as it gets cold. Rides rock solid. Don’t even need tape.
I'm beginning to wonder if they're making guns bigger on the inside, than they are on the outside.
Ahh the ol Tardis 1911
May be the lack of high viz front sight is due to the fact that the gun is compensated. I guess the temperature of those gases would just destroy the material of any high visibility front sight
Possibly. But a tritium sight with a white surround would hold up. It's more the fact that Rock island doesn't put many high viz front sights on their pistols.
This is the first 45 cal I'm considering...My CCW is a sig p365...I like using Underwood Extreme Defender as my carry ammo...Their 45 cal round looks wicked for sure...This old guy does want a 45 cal at least for home protection and possibly CCW...
I'm 71 and prefer the .45 ACP..
My EDC is a sig p365. I just bought this gun and ran a couple hundred rounds through it today. I ordered a alien wear holster for it. This well soon be my EDC.
The opening was hilarious!😂😂😂
Given that there's porting right next to base of the front sight, a fiber optic front sight might not be the best option...gases could easily discolor the fiber after a few hundred rounds. And hopefully somebody in the aftermarket community will come up with a mag base plate that will A) give you a thickened bottom and/or spur for additional purchase, and B) a couple of extra rounds in the bargain.
A 3 and a half inch tall 13 round mag is exactly what we need
Pearce grips have finger extensions for it. I ordered 4. Likely to buy a 5th. As to adding rounds.... I have 3 para P 12 mags. Will have my local gunsmith modify them for my BBR 3.10
Will be buying one when it's available in my area. Outstanding Sir Thank You
That is a silly little gun haha. I'm sure they have that tiny little niche of the market cornered now.
Nothing silly. Its a 45 acp tank.
Its designed to complete with a kimber. No one in the 1911 business is worried about competing with glock.
The comp ports would black the front sight even if it was LED,. There's gonna be fire!
Great video no other gun shoots or feels as good as a 1911 and this will be my next buy and carry gun
I will almost always pick the a hammer fired gun over a striker fire. comparing it to the g30 I wish they would have made the barrel the same or close to the g30 barrel length 3.78". I would like to see RI come out with a 4.25" with a 12-14rd 45acp.
Your lucky the heat from the dryer didn't set off a round. LOL
Got a few rocks they all run perfect.
Nice to know, thanks!
I always thought these are silly and absurd 45s, and I love it... keep putting off buying one lol
Had my hands on it... should have bought it. Next one I see at my FFL... sold! 😬👍
I want to get one of these but I heard the retaining plug on them often ruptures AND sprigs have to be swapped out after only a few hundred rounds?
Really does piss me off to never see double stacked 1911s. Seems like itd be easy enough to produce.
Getting the magazines to reliably feed through a yoke style trigger is kinda difficult. STI is getting better at it.
@@TheJimminiShow never had feed problems with my 14-45, but I attribute that to the ramped barrel.
What are your thoughts on this a p938?
I like the 938. It's a 9mm so different caliber, thus not a real competitor, but definitely worth looking at if you're looking for a micro 9 sized 1911
@@TheJimminiShow awesome. yeah for sure on different calibers. I know RIA has one similar to the one you reviewed but chambered in 9mm just haven't found a dealer nearby that carries either on hand. Glad to hear your positive experiences with the 938, I am definitely looking to carry between these two.
Aah yes, just what everyone wanted, a 45acp contender in the sub compact category
Question....steel frame or aluminum? Kimberly has aluminum and they crack making Kimbers “Crap”! As for the spare spring having to be replaced at 500 rounds...that’s a lot like Kimber but 300 rounds less. Did I mention Kimbers were crap?
Rock island uses all steel in the majority of their pistols this one included. Offhand I can't think of any that use aluminum.
But let's face it most people that buy this gun won't put a thousand rounds through it so the two springs it comes with should be plenty.
From my country..Philippines.
Thanks for the nice review!
I have a llama minimax2. Lil bit smaller and the recoil isn't too bad. Not too accurate firing at much distance but does what it is supposed to do
Something I’d keep in my boot 😂🤠🥾
Then you'd have a Rock in your boot! 😀😁😚😁😄😁
Better then a snake in your boot!
Colt has been making their Officer's Model for 40 years.
Not in double stack they havent
Nope, not in double stack, but the 3.5" 1911 is nothing new.
@@TheJimminiShow Pretty sure Para Ordnance P-12 has been around for more than 30 years tho.
I have a small frame so this is right up my alley.
This is a common misconception; the smaller the gun, the more recoil, and the harder to maintain proper grip. Compact should be the smallest genre a smaller framed individual should look for to have a comfortable, safe experience.
I handled one of these at a gun counter and it feels good like a 1911 should, but it is extremely heavy for concealed EDC.
I can imagine a recall on this little 3 in Barrel and 45
Don't threaten me with a good time
Yeah that's a really modifacated 1911 lol.
I have the 10MM FS HC.
I am in NEED of a slim mag well and the magazine extension
Wondering how this BBR would look with such add-ons too
The clown car of 1911's
I had my recoil spring on my Para-Ordinance fail after a while. I had no idea what the problem was so I sent it back and they replaced it with a note. You have to replace the spring dummy. They didn't call me a dummy but you could read between the lines. I have the P12-45 just a bit more ammo so the pinky finger has somewhere to be. Its chunky and heavy with a surprisingly mild recoil.
upgrade the mag to a 12-14 rd extended mag w/ grip. and its good to go.. if they have one
So Rock Island decided to bring back the Para-Ordinance Warthog. I've had a Warthog for a while now, took forever to get it run reliably.
nice video, would be nice to see it on the range.
Dark item, like inside of barrel, against a light background - you can see what you are referring to.
1:46 I wish the community would just pick one…are they double stack 1911’s or are they 2011’s?
My EDC is a full-on Remington M1911, and I’ve never had any problems carrying it comfortably or quick access-wise.
