"This boy is part of a new age, where nothing we understand about the world makes sense anymore."
Yeah. Kind of like this game's entire storyline. What a fucking load.

Which turned out to be another ruse by Ocelot. Liquid never returned to begin with. It was more hypnotherapy baloney. Psycho Mantis, Volgin and the Sorrow ended up being the only true cases of supernatural power after this game cheapened the Cobra Unit's awesomeness down to 'oh it was a parasite'. It was just like how they ruined Vamp with the stupid as hell 'nanomachines' excuse in MGS4. I would love to know how the nanos prevented him from drowning in MGS2 before he returned to stab Emma to death. (Him being an undead monster, as originally believed, would have been twice as awesome.)
Some things were better off unexplained, and they had no good reason to bring in Volgin as the Man on Fire. He doesn't even talk and he's basically a puppet. Volgin was an awesome electric villain, but MGS5 makes him a joke with the stolen fire powers of the Fury. I'm not impressed.

You simply say that nanomachines reanimated his body while he was unconscious.

I fail to see Vamp's ability being a result of technology lessened that, since he *was* still basically an undead monster - only the nanomachines kept him alive at that point, otherwise he was practically just a walking corpse. Same for Volgin - his state being explained doesn't lessen him, especially since it's explicitly noted to be a result/achievement of the huge amount of hatred he had for Big Boss; something that *is* pretty impressive since the only other people Mantis resonated with out of every other character in the series was Skull-Face, Liquid and the Boss himself.
Long story short; if you're not impressed, it might just be you as opposed to the story failing.
