And Fincher was nuclear when he made this movie. no one wanted him after the Alien 3 debacle. What saved him was the fact that Sigourney Weaver staunchly supported Fincher to the press and said he was a bright young visionary that needed to be taken seriously. this lead a producer to take a shot on him with this little script called Seven.

There is not a single jury that would actually convict David. He'd never actually see prison for this under the circumstances and Somerset's testimony. But David's life would be forfeit after this and he'd be utterly miserable for the rest of his days. Life taken either way.
As Ellie said, she has already seen and reacted to this movie.(3 years ago). Her solo reactions were great because she never held back like she does when someone is with her - even Larry. Since I saw this movie, I've never opened a box where I wasn't sure what was inside without thinking about this movie. It's a staple at Christmas time.
Legend has it producers wanted to change the ending into something less shocking, more audience-pleasant, but Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman threatened to walk away mid-shooting if they changed it. It stayed. It became a classic.
Hey guys ! More like this, all from David Fincher - The Game - Michael Douglas, Gone Girl - Ben Affleck, Zodiac - Robert Downey Jnr & Mark Ruffalo. Also his TV show Mindhunter which is about the formation of the FBI Behavioural Sciences Division (remember Silence of the Lambs ?) where agents go and interview real world serial killers and develop their first profiles. Will totally give you chills.
WHAT'S IN THE BOX?! Now you know where that comes from. 😅 I think if you let him live he has the chance to smile, laugh, get pleasure... some people should never be allowed the chance of those things...
I’m amazed you all managed to make it through Seven, ladies! Absolutely not for the faint hearted! Needless to say we all saw what an absolute psychopath John Doe was; easily Kevin Spacey’s greatest performance of all. His reasoning for killing all his victims actually does make a lot of sense but they still didn’t deserve to die in the manner they all did & if you ask me, Tracey wasn’t so innocent herself simply because of the fact she never told Mills (her own husband) she was pregnant & told Somerset instead. Probably meant to be an allegory of never keeping secrets from your own family which is ultimately a sin in itself. Excellent reaction once again!

@PorterJustPorter there's another theory that Pitt's character went insane over the death of his wife and unborn child on that "one bad day" and came to view it as a twisted "joke", thus becoming The Joker.

I never liked how they used the phrase deadly sin. While it is actually the direct translation of "mortal sin", there are some connotations to mortal that are lost in translation. There are a few reasons behind a sin being classified as mortal. Its a sin that puts your soul in danger of hell without reconciliation. Mortal also indicates alienation of God's grace, which is what gives our soul its life.
