- This is how often 01 118 drove from Frankfurt-Höchst to Königstein without any problems. But on June 15, 2016, it had rained shortly before the ascent. Bad prerequisites for a high bike on this steep stretch in the Taunus. After several unsuccessful attempts, 52 4867 of 01 118 came to the rescue.

Da kommen Erinnerungen hoch! Ich bin jetzt 70 Jahre und kenne solche Züge noch aus eigenem Erleben. Richtige Abteile mit Fenstern, die man runterschieben und den Kopf hinaus in den Fahrtwind halten konnte! Da war Zugfahren noch ein Erlebnis mit allen Sinnen. So eine Urgewalt von Maschine waren die Loks! Die blauen Waggons waren Erste Klasse. Ich habe es auch erlebt, daß (ich bin auf der Schwäbischen Alb aufgewachsen) ein Bus den Berg nicht hochgekommen ist. Dann mußten Leute aussteigen und schieben helfen. Der Motor thronte wie ein großes Tier neben dem Fahrer im Innenraum, gepolstert und mit braunem Leder bezogen und vor allem warm. Da habe ich gerne drauf Platz genommen, wenn es kalt war. :)
ich hab vor 20 Jahren als Schüler noch erlebt, dass volle Schülerbusse eine Steigung im Strohgäu nicht immer hochgekommen sind, wenn er es schaffte im 1. Gang, gab es danach immer Jubel und Applaus. Einige Male mussten wir aber aussteigen und nebenher laufen, das war lustig

Für Strecken u Lok gibt es Grenzlasten - in Taleischnitten ist mit Feuchtigkeit immer zu rechnen. Man bedient dann vorausschauend den Sandstreuer

War selbst 40 Jahre im Fahrdisnst unterwegs.
Die Dampfzeit begeistert mich noch heute im Alter von 72 Jahren.
Als oller Dampflokführer (70) habe ich für derartige Ereignisse stets einen "Trick" in der Kiste:
Wenn gar nix mehr hilft, vorher reichlich eingepackte olle Lappen an Passagiere (Freiwillige) verteilen und zumindets die grobe Nässe und Laub von den Schienen wischen lasen.
Hat bislang immer bestens funktioniert. Die Leute waren happy, dass sie ihren Zug "retten" konnten und mit vorsichtigem Sanden konnte bislang jede Steigung bewältigt werden.
ja, er hätte gleich beim ersten Durchrutschen sanden sollen da war noch genug Geschwindigkeit da. Vieleicht hätt´s ja gereicht.
Gute Idee… An sich dürfen keine Fahrgäste im Gleisbereich der DB arbeiten… Wenn nur Personal mit Warnweste!

Die BR 52 hat sich wieder mal beweisen können, dass sie für alle Lebenslagen und Streckenverhältnisse Spitze ist. Zwei wunderschöne Maschinen - und vor allem, zwei richtige Fachleute an den Reglern. Respekt. Vielen Dank für die wunderschönen Aufnahmen.

Dummerweise ist es die 01 118 welche steckengeblieben ist, aber egal. Auf solche Details kommt es nicht an.
@@ppanzer7243 Das ist wahr, aber mein Kommentar bezog sich auf die Schlußsequenz, in der die 52 zur Hilfe kam.
@@dirkmaronn Ach so, okay, dann ist ja alles klar. Beide Lokomotiven sind aus Schweizer Sich sehr gross und unheimlich leistungsfähig. Daneben kommt die C 5/6 der SBB wie Spielzeug vor. Ich hab eine BR 01 von ASTER in Livesteam, die tönt genau so, einfach etwas höher in der Tonlage.
Man kann sagen , was man will , aber wenn man sieht , wie gut der Lokführer die Gratwanderung zwischen mit durchdrehenden Rädern und noch gerade so vorwärts kommen beherrscht,sage ich : Hut ab 👍🏻👍🏻 Der Mann beherrscht sein Gerät !
Ja, er hatte ein ganz feines Händchen am Regler und an der Steuerung. Respekt.
Nein das sehe ich nicht so! selbstverständlich ist es vermutlich wahnsinnig schwer eine Schnellzuglok hier anzufahren!!! bevor das erste mal die Maschine schleuderte, hätte er am Regler gar nichts außer Sanden tun dürfen!

Für einen Lokführer sollte es eigentlich normal sein mit einer Lok so umzugehen. Das ist ja sein Beruf, da muss man kein Zauberer sein
@@MrAwesome84 Mmmm. In welcher Zeit lebst Du denn noch? Als ob jeder Zugführer heutzutage noch auf einer Dampflok lernt. Das sind Museumsstücke und es gibt in Deutschland mittlerweile nur noch eine Handvoll Personen die so ein Ding fahren können und dürfen. Und ob man jetzt eine moderne oder Dampflok fährt, ist ein Himmelweiter Unterschied. Kannst schließlich auch kein Jumbo fliegen, nur weil Du Papierflieger falten kannst.
I own the Marklin model of this locomotive that they made in HO scale in 1950. To say I'm overwhelmed to see the real one in action is the ultimate understatement of the day. What a beast, thank you . To think that the model was so under appreciated that I had to rescue it from a dumpster with a full passenger consist makes me so glad I was there to rescue it, my kids called it the sparkle train because of the sparks it kicks up at the points.
That was a great find, always loved Marklin Models, my friends father had a Marklin Model railroad designed for his son but it was so complicated he could never use it.
Me too, this is still my favorite Märklín engine!
Now you need to go ride it ☝, you only live once.

Unbegreiflich wie man eine 01 auf so einer Strecke einsetzen kann. Die Lok ist - wie Sie schon geschrieben haben - eine Schnellzuglok. So etwas kommt wenn man von der Materie nur wenig Ahnung hat.
Da kann ich nur zustimmen 👍
Auf dieser Strecke wäre wohl etwas vom Schlage einer br 95 die bessere Wahl gewesen

Such a beautiful locomotive. Many years ago, after steam had ceased in the U.K., I was based in Hamelin and saw locomotives similar to this running on the main line there. Fantastisch erinnerungen!

A false statement, you can still ride steam locomotives to date.
I love these steam engines.. It's like living machines.. You have to take care of every moment.. Also, they are machines that are marvelous mechanisms.. I admire their voices..

Hermoso video y espectaculares patinadas. La Br 01 es una gran locomotora "Pacific" 2-3-1 o 4-6-2 como les guste. Honestamente ignoro cuando se dejó de usar el vapor en Alemania, pero fueron años y años ke estas mákinas prestaron brillantes servicios remolcsndo trenes expresos a más de 100 km/h. En Argentina, mi país, ningún exppreso ke yo sepa supera mucho los 90. No son lS mákinas, ke son duesel modernas, pero el mantenimiento de las vías es un desastre. Cualkiera ke sepa algo más no me ofende si lo dice y me corrige. Sin insultos. Con argumentos. SALUD !!!@

I remember back when visiting India in the 80's, pretty much everyone hated steam locomotives as being symbols of backwardness and a source of national shame. Everyone wanted to, as kids we were especially excited to, travel in the "cool" new modern electrics.
I too learned to look down on those steam "dinosaurs". At the same time, I was fascinated by their mechanical yet almost living/breathing quality and couldn't help but spend a lot of time looking at them while staying near a major train repair yard.

Your experience is very much with what I was getting at... I remember as a foreign-kid, the locals would get very nervous at the very idea that I may go off on my own to get a closer look at one of those.
Now, the engineers themselves, that I had the privilege of meeting, lamented the inevitability of steam's demise. If you asked them anything about the steam locomotive they drove (to which they were personally assigned) or wanted to take photos they would show it off like a prize horse. They didn't have much and lived a hard life yet those those steam locomotives gave them pride. For them the risk of injury came with the territory. However the vast majority of the people involved: the yard crew, management, not to mention the doctors/nurses who treated work-related injuries at the local hospital, couldn't wait to see them gone!

Das ist ein Fall für das Sandmännchen. Erinnert mich ein wenig an meine Ente mit Wohnwagen, wo ich in Remscheid am Berg kleben geblieben bin.

Reminds me of a journey in 1953 on the Medloc Troop Train from Ostend to Klagenfurt with a superb Bundesbahn Pacific with a fully laden troop train having great difficulty on a damp rail getting up the bank along the south bank of the Main river eastbound. It took a full half an hour but the driver finally made it!
Were you with the British forces in the occupied zone of Austria then? As I recall, Carinthia was occupied by Eighth Army in May 1945.
My father was in the British Troops in Austria stationed originally in the Maria Theresa Kaserne, part of Schoenbrun Palace, Siedlung, Vienna 12. I attended School in Klagenfurt, and lived in Scloss Krastovitz; wonderful life. I finally left in late 1953 to return to England to join the RAF as an Apprentice Airman at RAF Halton, No 1 School of Engineering.@@mikelofgren2827
The skill of driving a locomotive is keeping the power just below the limit of the coefficient of friction with the rails so the wheels don't spin. Adding more power doesn't add traction but loses it. Easy to say, but takes great experience to do.

@@JatibarTV Greetings from London. By co-incidence I saw 'Edge of the world' last night which I thought was a great film. Must visit there some time.
Idling as one would say nowadays (if that was a diesel unit) as can be seen here, as that steam loco still moved forwards (albeit at a snails pace) - so why use max power to attempt quick speed ups, needlessly (and uselessly) spinning the wheels, when too much power overcame the grip they already had - thus deliberately losing traction - yet when throttled right down to "idle" (to regain grip) - yep the old steam loco's kept right on "idling along" which would (if not forced like this) have overcome such steep slopes, with the engineer keeping his HANDS off that regulator, (instead of doing the ass-hat increase asap force as much power to the wheels as he can throttle attempts of his) but kept the throttle just above idle, & thus just under the slip co-efficient, meaning the loco could easily have done what it was already doing - (& what the engineer couldn't), to keep on going with all the slow patience in the world, when a silly engineer without a brain - kept trying to ram it with full boost it too quickly "at a full steam ahead mentality" - ?
As that just meant another section of track with those spun wheelsets, burning pits into the railhead and annoying any track worker nearby - who saw a useless engineer deliberately over powering a struggling (but still moving) steamer.

That reminds me of when I was a little boy when my family would go to the state of Mississippi to visit my grand parents.down the highway from their home was a train switching station and almost all night the horns were blowing and you could hear those engines going up and down the tracks. That is a good memory of my childhood.😀

Habe als Kind an einer Bahnstrecke gewohnt. Kann mich noch gut an durchdrehende Räder erinnern - wenn der Güterzug halten musste weil er keine Durchfahrt durch den Bahnhof hatte und dann anfahren musste. Habe jedesmal senkrecht im Bett gesessen 😍

Schöne Aufnahmen der alten Dame. Doch so etwas wird es leider nicht mehr geben. Sie hatte im März 2021 Fristablauf, darf nicht mehr auf die Schiene. Und vom jetzigen Standort aus kann sie nicht mehr über die Schiene zu einem Betriebswerk verbracht werden. Die Strecke hält ihrem Gewicht nicht mehr stand. Ginge also nur per Schwertransport über die Straße. Somit wird sie wohl nur eine weitere abgestellte Museumslok werden. Schade um diese Schönheit.

It's like a living thing, breathing and hissing and then that charge up the hill at the end, superb.
Ich weiß nicht, ob das in Deutschland so ist. Aber hier drüben legten Lokomotivführer Sand unter die Räder, während der Zug fuhr, bekannt als Kugelstoßen. Es war ein dampfbetriebenes System. Auch durch das Durchdrehen der Räder wird die Schienenoberseite aufgrund des hohen Gewichts der Lok sehr schnell beschädigt. Radbrand, ist dafür bekannt, nachfolgende Züge zu entgleisen.

Was mich wundert, ist, daß hier der Einsatz von Sand nicht diskutiert wird, denn rutschige Gleise und zu geringe Radhaftung waren ja wohl der Grund, daß Lokomativen mit Sandstreuern ausgerüstet waren.

The wheels must not slip, as there is a risk of water ripping from the boiler into the cylinders. I didn't see them pouring sand under the wheels! And while driving, either the seals are blowing or then I don't know why they have the drain valves open ?.
What is the track gauge of this railway? It looks narrower than a UK one.
It‘s the same 1435 mm.

One of the more interesting I things I saw with a locomotive since I never saw that happen before
