In the same sense there's a lack of work ethic as well. It is difficult to find good help that is self motivated and eager to work. Many just want the paycheck without putting in the work.
I've worked in the food industry since I was 16, I am 30 now. I've never been offered a management position or any other kind of supervisory role so I opened my own restaurant in 2020. I got tired of being overlooked so I took my fellow co-workers and gave them a job at my restaurant with great pay, great benefits and I really did for them what my former jobs refused to do which is giving them "respect". So far I've had not one employee leave my business.
More and more people might face a tough time in retirement. Low-paying jobs, inflation, and high rents make it hard to save. Now, middle-class Americans find it tough to own a home too, leaving them without a place to retire.
The increasing prices have impacted my plan to retire at 62, work part-time, and save for the future. I'm concerned about whether those who navigated the 2008 financial crisis had an easier time than I am currently experiencing. The combination of stock market volatility and a decrease in income is causing anxiety about whether I'll have sufficient funds for retirement.
Bought my house When Trump was President cost $200k. Now under Biden its $390k and I pay Property tax on that number now- So 90% more tax. I wont spend a penny under Biden
They missed one of the biggest pieces of this entire issue. Toxic work place behaviour/environments. People are being fed up with being treated like garbage by their employers so they leave. Those that leave are among the most courageous people. They are taking the power away from their abusers and saying "No More!"
My boss is still being an entitled Karen telling me to be flexible but at the same time asking me if I will run away from this job 🙄 I’m gonna surprise her and pull the rugs below her feet when she least expects it!
This was very business owner friendly content, meanwhile a lot of these people absolutely hate their bosses and work environment for various reasons, heck bad management resignations is a statistic i'd love to have.
I quite in July 2020 and it was ONLY because of this reason. I was tired of the humiliation. Iived on savings and found a better and kinder environment. Getting paid more is just an added bonus.
Yes especially the younger generations. They know about toxicity and abuse. We won't stand for it. I worked as an elementary school teacher and the administration were bullies!
Until you've worked in retail or dealt with the public, you'll never have a clue about how stressful it is dealing with arrogant, self absorbed, holier than thou, egotistical, self entitled people. And then there's the managers who treat you the same way.
Another huge issue with all of this is minimum wage raising! I'm LIVID WHEN min wage goes up! Guys! Just like they how don't care about you, they don't care if it goes up! They just raise everyone ( even newcomers ) to the same wage! Then they raise managements income, store prices, and taxes. YOU'RE LITERALLY JUST AS BROKE BUT ALL YOUR HARD WORK EARNING RAISES GOES OUT THE WINDOW. THINK PEOPLE THINK. We need a BETTER, MORE PERMANENT way to boost "low skilled" incomes. How about 🤭... get this. A LOYALTY REWARD SYSTEM THAT REWARDS EMPLOYEES WHO'VE WORKED THE HARDEST AND BEEN THERE THE LONGEST.

This is a piece about Workers but it doesn’t interview a single worker? And this piece doesn’t address the fact that most Americans feel their employers don’t really care about their interests.
Yep...elitist perspective of blue collar workers who had their backs stomped on during the Pandemic. These were Frontline workers not paid extra while everyone was home collecting while they risked their lives
Yah, everyone in this interview was part of the "Professional Managerial Class". They think they can fool all of us by having them all be POC's? Feels like being in the Matrix honestly.
I find it weird they make it seem as though workers have the power. Top 1% have 43 trillion in wealth while the bottom 50% own 3 trillion. The bottom 50 are the workers lol
I've worked in retail for 20 years, so I'm quite happy that this is taking place. For too long, retail bullied me and a lot of my employees, telling us things like, "If you don't like it, go; another like you is waiting to get into your position." Since the virus, I've found a dream job that helps me grow, pays me more, and values me!
This is what happens when employers underpay and disrespect their staff. Fortunately, many people discovered excellent business ideas during the pandemic that allowed them to work from home.
Having worked in retail, hospitality, and other service-sector jobs, none of this is surprising to me. It's not a worker problem, it's an employer problem. Employers want robots, not workers.
I quit my job about 4 months back. I was working sixteen hours a day six days a week. Making really good money. Unfortunately my dad passed away and my job did not want to give me time off. I decide for my mental health and we'll being to leave the job. They tried to convince me to stay but I knew they didn't care about me at all. It was in my best interest to leave.
Your one and only father died and they would not give you time off from work... Why? Was the timing bad for your boss? We're you supposed to tell your Dad that he needed to die at a more convenient time so as not to disrupt the work deadlines? That's the definition of heartless. You did right leaving them.
I quit my job because someone I worked with died on the floor at work. The company gave everyone 30 minuets off... 30 minuets... And then everyone was told to get back to work. That employee had been there for 15 yrs. I've since started my own business and never been happier. Companies want us to break our backs for them but want to treats us like expendable garbage. Given a choice, why would anyone want to work for that?
As workers, we deserve better for the things we go through! Everybody hiring but not hitting at the same time🔥🔥🔥 I’m trying to get my subscribers up too💯 keep it going ❤️ and happy New year🎆
Went to school for a year to learn web design, then found out that companies wanted to pay me $10 an hour to design and code - two different skill sets. Why don't you do a series on how people are forced to live on little pay and few hours. People are tired of being abused for peanuts.
It’s also that they won’t hire anyone all they do is give you a interview and they expect us to be happy about that? It’s like they don’t care and yet they cal us lazy but they don’t know how hard we try to find work this country is a sham it’s not what we were taught they make us work and for what???
@@daveyt4802 This used to be true, 90%. Unfortunately, it's no longer the case. There is rarely any reward for loyalty anymore at most regular jobs. Employers get upset when they have a high turnover rate yet provide little to no incentive to retain their employees. There's a reason every generation after the Baby Boomer generation holds a significantly higher amount of jobs throughout their lifetime. Expectation of high output with no tangible reward.
Before the pandemic all employees were REPLACEABLE AND NOT RESPECTED. THANKS TO THIS NOW I CAN GO WORK SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR 5 MORE DOLLARS AN HOUR. I'LL TAKE IT
Employers spent years after the 2008 crash just stripping everything from employees: benefits, reasonable hours, pay increases (even for inflation) -- it's been disgusting. And when the pandemic hit, employers didn't even care if people died. And now they have the nerve to call people lazy. 😠
I’ve literally seen a man die on the production floor and they didn’t stop the line, they left him laying there dead till the ambulance came & they kept working. The poultry industry is vicious
1.) Not enough compensation 2.) Power crazed managers with psychological problems who treat staff like sh*** 3.) Companies that expect staff to do the work of 3-5 people.
I think a big part of the dissatisfaction with employers is that most of them do not fully understand what their employees actually do and how they do it. They assign unreasonable and unrealistic goals that frustrate their people because they don’t understand what it takes to accomplish those goals.
That happens when inexperienced managers are hired who never worked their way up. it is like a poker game. the richest people get the best jobs because they can bluff you every round at the table.
that’s spot on! no boss really knows what a subordinate goes through and the level of workload they deal with on routine basis. And they just disrespectfully add more and more tasks. It’s crazy!
That's why I like the show undercover boss. I think more bosses should do that, since it can help show them what it is like for employees on a day-to-day basis. Edit: but they have care enough to try something like that + so many don't.😢
This really isn't that complicated. Employers have given their employees a raw deal with no respect or loyalty. Wages have not kept up with inflation for decades and it is only getting worse. People are recognizing how awful the job markets truly are thanks to the pandemic and are figuring out they can make their own company or find a better job. Companies have focused on their own revenue rather than the ethics and principles they operate on and this is the result. Not to mention how difficult it is for the youth to get off the ground, they see these 'careers' as a dead end paycheck to paycheck life and they are opting out of this broken economy. When people can not afford to buy a home and live a life from their job then they are not going to be loyal to their job. How is this difficult to understand?
Yup honestly I was thinking about this 2 . Me being a young adult In college majoring in computer science. I’m quickly beginning to realize that If I take a job in the it industry,y employer has control of what I say, and what I do, when I work and when I can go on break. And if they don’t like something that I do or respect what I stand for they can just fire me. Which has been happening a lot more in todays society. It’s one of the reason y I’ve decided to just study the stock market and start investing now. So that Ik the future when I do go searching for a job in the computer science industry I don’t have to feel like Any loyalty to a certain company/ organization cause Ik I have something that I can always fall back on. And I think a lot of generation Z are starting to realize that today. THERE Are SO Many Opportunities OUt THERE TO Make MONey If ur Ready to SIT UP and Take advantage of it, instead of having people(employers) m spoon feed u all the way through. I experienced this 2 just dis week where I lost a college job for refusing to come in on a Sunday due to religious reason, I didn’t even fret or bother replying them cause Ik I can make 5 times the amount they were going to pay me from my trade online 🤣. I just wanted to do the job for my own self growth and learning experience. Didn’t make a difference 😂🤷🏾♂️ their loss
I walked away from my job as a industrial mechanic after I was told I was going to be laid off after moving for the company I worked for. They wanted me to stay around and help train the other people before they laid me off. My boss couldn’t believe I did it. I reopened my drain cleaning and plumbing business and I am extremely happy now. One of the things that is happening I believe is people are waking up and realizing they are sick of being beaten down by corporate America.

I'm a senior citizen that recently applied for a job (65 applications)! Out of 65, I was offered 1 interview which I attended but did not get the job. I am college educated, but feel very much undervalued because of my age. Some of us want to work but can't find an employer to hire us.
@@lemming9984 True Lemming but when those over 50 still want to support our community, same community that is crying that they don’t have staff but aren’t hiring people who want to help… this is a problem. Ageism is real. So proud of the workers who standing up!!!
Leading into the pandemic, I was a one-man department and heavily burned out. I asked my employer to keep my position remote, as my productivity was up, and my stress was way down. They declined. Within two weeks, I had found a permanently remote job that paid 60% higher. I’ve never been happier with my employment. My old company? They had to shut down the program I left because they couldn’t replace me, according to my friends who still work there.
Almost did the same, only difference where I work, they were smart enough to keep me and pay my worth and get me help but I feel you 100% Good Job standing up for yourself!
When I was 19 forty years ago I worked at the local grocery store and had an apartment at $200 a month. I could work, live and figure out life like a young adult needs to be able to do. My 19 year old son can't do that today even if he worked 60 hours a week making $20hr. Young people can't afford the high cost of renting on low wages. Blame Congress and both parties.
Don't forget, the constant excuses and weakness of the people. "Lesser of two evils" has gotten us nowhere in the last 40 years. It's time to wake up and form a third-party movement.
@@Cnw8701 yeah good luck convincing 100 million Americans to vote for a third party. As of right now the only realistic way to induce change is to induce social pressure within the two party system we have now
They are seriously ignoring the fact that people are quitting because the average workspace is hostile to mental and/or physical health and yet doesn't pay enough to live on.
And the worst part of it all is the amount of time you have to spend on these jobs. The average employee works nearly everyday, all day because it's the only way they'll get somewhat of a decent check. You're at work more than you're at home.
I’ll applaud anybody who can walk away from a terribly toxic job despite the risks involved. I’m surprised that no one talks about poor management and having to watch their every word and action.
My last job was retail. My boss was respectful and friendly, but the store was managed so amazingly poorly that I had no idea what I was supposed to do. There was no schedule, no pre-work meeting to lay out the plan, no organization of any kind. It was "Put on this ugly apron and go do something, idfk." I would be stuck idling for several hours a day and listening to insufferable pop music from 2010. Besides the music, the worst part is I wouldn't get in trouble. They were so uninterested in fostering the work environment that I could do actually nothing and get away with it. I joined because the person who hooked me up said it'd lead to more opportunities, and they were lying, and because I wanted to DO something worth doing. Not only was this a retail job where all of the work was miserable, but most of the time there was no work to begin with. I was supposed to sit around and sweat in the 90-degree room and wait and then I'd get paid for it. This seemed to be true of all of my coworkers too. To some people that sounds great but it was a fate worse than death to me. All I wanted was a clipboard of tasks or something and I got jack. If that is what America is like nowadays I don't think America deserves the "land of opportunity" title anymore.
I worked in the hospitality industry for over a decade. There is no way I’d go back now. Not because I know my worth or because of wages or “bad” employers but the customers. The ones that come out to eat and drink. People these days are so entitled and are just plain mean and rude!
As a retail employee of 22 years I’m very glad this is happening. Retail abused me and many of my coworkers for too long, they would say things like if you don’t like it leave there’s 100 just like you waiting to get into your position. Since the virus I now have a dream job that builds me up pays me much better and appreciates me!
Agree. I was told that at more than one retail job while I worked my way through college. Employers were abusive, unappreciative, demanding. I am so happy to see the shoe on the other foot now! Who's the captain now?, lol!
My back still has bad subluxations from the time I put in at Walmart unloading trucks, even though I finished college and would never work there again, it left pain that will never go away, and as I age I am finding back issues seemingly only get worse.
American workers are experiencing unprecedented declines in their real incomes, which is why record numbers have been forced to work multiple jobs to make ends meet. When we talk about 9.1% inflation, the media acknowledged the true rate of inflation of about 18%?
U.S inflation hit 7% in December, fastest pace since 1982 . Consumer prices in Germany rose by 3.1% in 2021 . France shows a 12 -months inflation rate of 3.4% the highest since September 2008.

I remember struggling to work with a severe case of strep. 105⁰ fever, couldn't eat, couldn't sleep and, given my ill health, I wasn't able to think clearly at all. Yet I had to go in to my job in which I was responsible for children because my boss didn't take me seriously when I said I was sick. This is just an example, there are more. Exactly. I had a bad case of period periods and my woman boss chased me to the bathroom and questioned me. She didn't believe really bad period pains exist.
Here in America employees are guilted for not covering every missed shift, guilted for taking sick days, guilted for taking breaks, guilted for taking a full lunch hour, guilted for taking vacation and when they do take vacation wonder if they have a job when they get back.
Yes! And then I got served with “Wants her Rights Honored as per your promised written policies” lol All of the above applied to me I cried yes cried to the 1000 Union I would call letting them know my employer was abusive and was in violation of my work rights.
Nah, you're just lazy and entitled. If you think you are creating all that value, go ahead and start your own business and put it to the test. Most will fail!
I believe people realized how bad their employers actually are, when they needed time off to care for children and families. Not enough sick time, paid time off, etc.
Another point is daycare costs almost as much as your weekly paycheck. So why wouldn’t you just stay home and be with your kid instead of working and blowing all the money anyway?
Yep, women should stay at home and raise their family regardless. That way we wouldn't have so many sociopathic, narcissistic, mentally unwell, entitled, nihilistic young people that cant figure out which bathroom to use and think expectations are microaggressions. And so many miserable women that function as barely sentient fleshlights until their early 30s.
Yeah... Imagine being a single parent with 6 kids at home. Daycare is a literal impossibility. Even if I could, by some miracle, find a way to afford it; there's nobody who is about to take on 6 kids. I don't make 15 an hour (thought now that company declared me salary and stopped paying all of us overtime it probably comes down to $15 an hour some weeks). But I agree. We have high turn over and the higher ups can't figure out why.
Paying unskilled people more than $15/hr is unsustainable. I agree it’s a poverty wage in a lot of America. All retailers, restaurants and other employers will just raise their prices and it’s passed down to the consumer per usual. It’s a shark eat minnow system. The only way out is to better yourself. Get an education, a skill, trade. Life is hard, better accept that and plow ahead or live in poverty.
I’m glad this is happening. The rent prices for apartments in the cities are beyond ridiculous. Why pay an outrageous amount of money to live in a little box, deal with daily traffic, plus deal with the hustle and bustle, and crowded places. When I can work from home while living in a bigger house or apartment, with no traffic, close to a beach and not have to deal with so many people. It’s a no brainer

@Al Jones dont you see the problem in what you saying, people got underpaid so much for the last 50 years that a basic stimulus is more than a lot of them make in a month.
They cant be too underpaid. Regardless how high prices increased air travel and christmas shopping broken an all time high in 20 years. So if so many people are underpaid then how people can still afford to travel this pass christmas as well as shopping surpassing 2020? If it was really that bad then air travel would had been at an all time low. It cost nearly $1000 for one plane ticket two way. Hotel fees increased car rentals increased yet people complain they underpaid but still be traveling like they are paid just fine.

When an employer demands a flexible, open schedule with no other engagements and only pays min wage (and expects you to do it with unrealistic enthusiasm), I'm not sure what they expect. There's also a tendency to only hire part time to avoid offering benefits to employees. No thanks ✌
This. And deity help you if you are trying to work to support yourself through college. Employers refuse to make regular schedules. You work whenever they want, and your educational goals be damned.
I worked for a privately owned restaurant back in 2003 and saw that the workers were not treated very well, (I was one of them)and that the owner would hire people part time so that his store would not have to give out benefits, this man is a crook!
I was one of the workers laid off on 2020 which is not the way I thought that year would go. I was provided severance and had started saving money prior to COVID just in case bc I had been laid 3x before this. So thankful for my time off bc I was so burnt out. I thought I took my time I’m finding a new position but it’s slowly turning into the same nightmare. If you are not working don’t let anybody force you or make you feel guilty about not jumping back into the workforce! Most people are jealous they are not able to do it themselves. I’m happy that people had the courage to move past a place where they didn’t feel comfortable. Lets acknowledge it and lets encourage trying something new!
Historically this is what happens before a revolt or uprising of citizens in a country who feel they’ve no choice any longer because things have become so intolerable. Usually economics is a top factor.
Never will the office beat being home. I felt that doing the same work but saving hundreds in 2hr commute, parking, laundry, and lunch. Then enjoying being comfortable, less stressed, no office drama, finishing house tasks on break or lunch, and using my own toilet…yup it’s the low stress flexibility for me.

I was laid off after Covid closed restaurants in my city. I bought land and moved off grid to start my own business and have never looked back. Never been happier. If you're asking yourself if you should do something that makes you happy, the answer is yes.
I quit my job because I was expected to work 16 - 26 hours (yes, I realize that 26 is longer than an actual day) long in an extremely nice hotel as a restaurant manager. My venue was the most profitable square footage of the entire hotel, not too far from all the “attractions” in Orlando. It’s embarrassing what companies expect. I lasted 6 months, and lost 25 pounds.
"There is no office that could offer me what I have in my house." Now that's putting employers on notice and if you can't offer that type of freedom you either won't get the worker you want or retain their employment.
Businesses asked for this when to save money they stated using contractors instead of permanent employees. Now people are self employed contractors. Glad to see it.
Yup. People have been treated like cogs in a machine for too long. In economics, the workers are seen as disposable, useless, when they are the most important part of the equation.
I would alter your statement just slightly - "Pay your employees fair wages with QUALITY AFFORDABLE benefits..." Providing medical benefits that have $6k deductibles or higher and insane copays is an insult. People can't even afford to use the benefits that are provided and thus are useless. The only ones who win in that scenario are the Health Insurance companies. The business owner gets raped in how much they pay for something that the employees cannot afford to use.
It's become a sick joke when the employer/boss expects employees to pick up the slack when their coworkers quit without paying them overtime or increasing their pay. Instead of rewarding loyal workers who choose to stay these employers are profiteering off of the backs of such workers.
Yep. To the point where they will work part-time workers full time without offering them full-time pay and benefits. Especially, during peak seasons. I've been there, done that.
That's exactly why I'm interviewing for other positions right now. Half of a department on the same floor as mine quit and our group was asked to do their job in addition to our own already heavy load, but with no extra pay, benefits, etc. If it were a one-off, I'd overlook it, but this has happened before and it's always for like 6 months while they take their time hiring replacements. In fact, now that I think about it, I haven't even received a simple "thank you" from our head manager. I'm not even sure he knows that we're doing this (just lower managment). Anyway, looks like I'm about to get a job that pays more and doesn't have me constantly overstretched.
Not so simple , people just don’t quit, employers are not so interested in keeping employees long term , look at Amazon , when you get experience and work your way up the ladder they get rid of you , Walmart has a computer make your schedule , your hours change each week , what human being wants that , I know many part timers at Walmart that have quit , their hours have been cut to zero , how many companies offer any real retirement ? How many have no choice but to quit their job , and if they are part time never apply for unemployment ? Do they get counted as quitting ? Sure they do but it’s not because they have the cards in their hand it’s because they trying to survive.

Agreed. People are changing jobs to get enough pay to live wherever, get better benefits, affordable childcare, and just be more valued. Except for the child care issue, that's why I changed jobs last September.
Way to go 60 Minutes. You took a topic entirely centered on the workers and worker experience and made a piece that is just business owners (and the 1 employee who was certainly being watched by her boss who was also in the piece). The point of the GREAT RESIGNATION complete flew right past you. People are quitting because they realize the horrible jobs with terrible pay and benefits and a toxic work environment aren't worth it. The only businesses complaining are the ones that exploit their workers until there is nothing left then fire them or lay them off after giving their executives huge bonuses.
You have to pay a living wage employers, to your employees, otherwise they won't work for you. To have good employees you employers must be good and honest and pay a liveable wages.
This makes me so happy, 3 years ago I left my job hopping for people to wake up from the nightmare, glad to see workers asking for respect and more money.
Abraham, I'm interested in how they are going to pay for rent and food. Are they just living off their parents or spouse? Are they living off of government money? I just don't see how it all works out. Someone has to cook, clean the hotel rooms, plant and harvest the food. I would love to hear some of your story.
I walked out of Bath and Body right before Christmas. I didn't even make enough to afford a decent Christmas for my children this year. It broke my heart. And I caught the manager talking crap on employees more than once. Loudly and shamelessly. People quit all season long so you're always short staffed, because it's not a great experience watching the managers get in on all of the sales, while you as a regular employee, are barely eating. Shove it is right. 💁♀️
What are you doing instead? I’ve been working all the pandemic at the same job. If I quit (for the reasons I want to) I would then not have a job. And I can’t get unemployment when I quit. What do you do for bills?
I recently quit my job at Walgreens for the same reason. I was working 40 hours a week for $15 an hour. My manager told me that I would be doing the job of three people. When I said I should be getting paid more than $15 an hour, her response was “You have to earn more than $15 an hour.” Who can afford an apartment on $15 an hour?
I'm really happy to see people realizing their worth. Pandemic has shown people how short life really is and its important to live it how you want to. Do what is best for you, tap into your magnificence. Come into that person you've always wished to be and don't stop. Be patient and express gratitude.
I worked retail at Macy's back in 2012/2013, would never go back to it. I got yelled at by my manager for helping an elderly disabled woman find her family instead of being at my station selling kitchen appliances 😅. And then soon after, I got yelled at by a customer who was upset that he ordered plates online and it came broken. You can't please anyone in retail imo.
But what are you doing instead man? I feel crazy, asking this all over the comment section. Are you going into a higher wage job? Or are you not and don’t have to pay bills? The Great Resignation makes no sense to me, as, what are people doing to pay for food and bills?
I worked for a corporate job for 5 years. I left my job after they decided to give me a raise.. of only .10 cents. What an insult. That didn’t even cover inflation. I found a better job making 40% more than what I made at my old job. Employers aren’t loyal to employees and I am all for more employee protections. It’s the little guys doing all the work while the big bosses are making all the money.
I didn’t get a raise, I got laid off! Like I’m sorry but working at a coffee shop for two years, being paid 12.50 and asking for a proper raise 15.00$/hr shouldn’t be an absurd thing to ask for.
Oh that's normal they've been doing it in the nineties 5 cents 10 cents 25 cents that's normal. What you think you're gonna get a $5 raise that's never gonna happen ever
These people keep talking about “jobs” that are unfilled. But they’ve failed to mention that these are jobs where people aren’t making any money. If you’re poor working 40 hours week, walking away from a job means nothing.
They`re on minimum wage, and workers wages are not going up. And when you work in a toxic, and abusive environment there comes a point when you`ve had it and want to quit. Why work at a place for no money where they abuse you on top?
I've worked since I was 13. I walked the day I turned 55. It was always the plan. Nobody ever gave me a dime. I kept telling everyone at work I was going to leave. No one believed me. I left everything at my desk. Got up and left. I'm now 62. Just started S.S. All those years I worked my way up the ladder. When I got there I realized there was just more work. Get out early if you can.
I threw in the towel at 50. Wasn’t planned, but I just couldn’t do it anymore. I have not looked back and have no regrets. Recruiters and other former colleagues still contact me regularly for positions. I just laugh and buy more wine!
I worked at a Panera for a year after graduating college, which was right when the pandemic hit. They had three near-full turnovers of employees, and kept hiring unprofessional workers, and failed to give any raises to those who stood with them as long as they did. They even tried to make us work full time without benefits, using a loophole in the policy. Even some managers either quit, or were demoted to different restaurants. I finally broke and quit that job back in November, even burned my uniform at our Christmas bonfire. I feel happier than before, and recently got a job as a Paraeducator. Not sure how well this will go, but I am never working in food service ever again.
Look at health care workers, they were hailed hero's during COVID on the front lines daily working short, crazy hours, then told if they didn't get the 💉 they would be fired...Who treats ppl like that? Sickening I hope everyone that walked away never has to go back!
Just goes to show the power people have collectively. Suddenly now places are finding the money to raise wages (or at least advertise they can pay more) because without workers they are nothing.
I’ve worked in the same restaurant for 10 years. The amount of people who have said to me “no one wants to work” during the pandemic when we were short staffed, is unreal. When the reality was our kitchen staff was not being paid enough, working terrible hours, and forced to try and achieve unrealistic expectations. They all worked the entire shutdown. None of them received unemployment. They simply had an awakening. Realized this job was not for them. So they quit. Found new jobs. Better jobs. And to that I say, good for you.
I was laid off, since when I got this new little restaurant gig they still haven’t paid me the agreed wage, & haven’t submitted the error to HR. It’s been months & there’s no way they’re gonna go back to pay me the lost wages even if they do ever fix the mistake. At the same time they want the trash cans scrubbed 🙃

I like how the people being interviewed are trying to pin this issue on employees. Notice how none of them talk about low wages, long hours and hectic schedules. Then they turn around and blame "government handouts" for lack of employees. Unemployment is meant to keep people from being homeless and provide a buffer while looking for ANOTHER JOB. If people can make more sitting on their butts than working, what does that say about the company?

@@DavidLLambertmobile Unless you're getting paid overtime and you're willing to sacrifice your work-life balance for the extra cash, you shouldn't feel obligated to work past your contracted 40 hours a week. Doing so willingly allows your business owner and management to do what is called "lean staffing" and allow existing staff to fill the void in order to reduce the number of employees and save money. This is a common practice in companies with salaried positions where they are exempted the requirement to pay extra in overtime pay. If you and your coworkers make it impossible for the company to function without additional staffing by only working your agreed upon hours, then management will be forced to do whatever it takes to fill the void. Otherwise, there's no reason for them to go out of their way and lose additional profits to do so.
I quit because during the pandemic, managers and district managers were so abusive and unappreciative. Worked me to where I was constantly sick, because they made me do three jobs, made fun of me, said nasty things about me, as well as others. The manager was so lazy, other people were doing her job. @@daveyt4802 This used to be true, 90%. Unfortunately, it's no longer the case. There is rarely any reward for loyalty anymore at most regular jobs. There's a reason every generation after the Baby Boomer generation holds a significantly higher amount of jobs throughout their lifetime. Expectation of high output with no tangible reward.

3.) Companies that expect staff to do the work of 3-5 people.

Yep!
All facts.
I agree. All of the above. Why I quit my job in november
Spot on!
I think a big part of the dissatisfaction with employers is that most of them do not fully understand what their employees actually do and how they do it. They assign unreasonable and unrealistic goals that frustrate their people because they don’t understand what it takes to accomplish those goals.
100 percent agree! Should be top comment. Disrespectful management.
It’s crazy!
Macys was good for assigning unrealistic goals so they didn’t have to give pay raises. They underpaid me by $8000
That's why I like the show undercover boss.
Yup honestly I was thinking about this 2

So that Ik the future when I do go searching for a job in the computer science industry I don’t have to feel like Any loyalty to a certain company/ organization cause Ik I have something that I can always fall back on.
No one wants to talk about that and it’s a huge reason for people leaving these jobs.
100% agreed with both of you. Left 4 months ago for that same reason.
My last job was retail. My boss was respectful and friendly, but the store was managed so amazingly poorly that I had no idea what I was supposed to do. There was no schedule, no pre-work meeting to lay out the plan, no organization of any kind. It was "Put on this ugly apron and go do something, idfk."
I would be stuck idling for several hours a day and listening to insufferable pop music from 2010.

America has a problematic past and present and your refusal to acknowledge any of it makes you an embarrassment. Progress will leave you behind Anthony. America will leave you behind. Absolutely no one will look back on people like you fondly. I can guarantee that.
@@yapandasoftware I also never once said the words sacrifice or suffering in my original comment, so I have no idea what you’re even talking about. Are you okay?
@@cannibalmanimal2336 I’m so sorry. That’s not okay. You don’t deserve that kind of treatment, they’re taking advantage of you. I don’t know your situation, but I do know that every restaurant is hiring right now. Where I work? You can literally name your price. I say look elsewhere. When you do find a place, get your pay agreement in writing from them. Signed & dated. Verbal agreements are not enough. These people are ruthless out here, protect yourself. F those garbage cans ✌🏼
The problem is you go to college and earn a very expensive degree and put in a massive amount of work to do well and then you get out of college and realize you're only gonna make 17 or $18 an hour and you can't survive on that in today's society especially if you have to travel miles to your job pay for your mortgage your car payment water sewage garbage Internet phone food medical and who knows how many other bills
“There is no office that can offer me what I have in my house.” Amen to that. Remote work is here to stay. Employers better get used to it.
When the pendulum of power swings back in favor of the employer, employees could be in for a shock. How many employers want to pay these new higher salaries, plus benefits to American employees who will not show up in person? The employers will, as they always have, write the rules in their favor and push harder to hire foreign workers at much lower salaries.
Amen Brother!!
@@justinkoenig1706 and in doing so they will deprive Americans of the money needed to buy their goods and services, which will harm their business further.
@@justinkoenig1706 you’re full of fear. “The servants should tow the line”. No more brother, no more.
You can work from your pajamas at home but not in an office.
I am thrilled to see that more people are thinking about their lives differently and in a more thoughtful way rather than toiling year after year just to pay the bills. Really good news and story. Thanks!
Or slaving away just to give in to materialisim. People are finding out that happiness isint in the newest iphone or the nicest car.
It's great that Americans have the freedom to quit their jobs...Just stop their salaries and benefits.
The same is true in China
buyt no one is going back to school
@@nostorystagnates-ernieboxa5312 Yeah, that's what happens when you quit.
Everything stops.
Including your employer's efforts to replace you.
Smart employees have finally realized their worth and power.
Great way to pin it on the worker but not the real issues like toxic management, pay, lack of benefits and living conditions are too expensive. Great way to miss the big issue.
Exactly
💯💯💯
The cost of living and rate of inflation is in no way matched by the average wage. The top 1% has wrung too much out of the middle and working class, and now running around shrugging and wondering why people choose not to work??
Yet they are quitting respectful jobs too gabriel, so what do you say to that?
@@CatGamer-wc2ij the pandemic has made people more aware of their own mortality, and how short time is?
I'm glad ! Companies treat employees like dirt ! Let's make this change !
I'm really really proud of these people quitting their jobs. Even though I'm like half a world away from them.
I hope the employers realize that making profits isnt everything and treat people better.
Exactly because they can't make a profit without employees
It won’t last. The rich always wins. They have the government backing and you don’t. They just got blindsided by the pandemic. There’s millions crossing the border every year to replace you.
Nah, you're just lazy and entitled. If you think you are creating all that value, go ahead and start your own business and put it to the test. Most will fail!
@@jamie6387 it's better to try and fail then to settle for an employer that doesn't appreciate it's employees.
Women and kids are quitting not men. Men are the ones taken care of women and kids so they can quit their jobs randomly.
When they blamed the stimulus i was laughing. Yeah im sure people are surviving off the 4000 dollars you gave them a year and a half ago. So comical!! Haha
I worked 61hr last week 👮🏽 armed security. 01/2022. My mgr keeps saying how my co worker will "start" but needs more training. Employers can not find decent stable workers. I'm 51. I get annoyed by the new type of hourly workers who are awful. 🇺🇸 will go ⬇️ by 2030 2035.
They are narcissists. A lot of them are in management.
Its funny how its only considered “handouts” if they’re giving us money but never when they’re taking our money and portions of our checks
I quit because during the pandemic, managers and district managers were so abusive and unappreciative. Worked me to where I was constantly sick, because they made me do three jobs, made fun of me, said nasty things about me, as well as others. The manager was so lazy, other people were doing her job. It was so abusive that I went home, took pain medicine and went to bed and repeat. I only ate one meal a day, because I was too tired. More people walked out of job that were the same. I was having an asthma attack and screamed at to keep working. I had bronchitis, screamed at to keep working. I filed complaints and 1 grievance. I finally had to take care of myself. Some of us go home to abuse. We don't want to have to go to work and be abused. I still feel angry and hurt by these actions and I'm not the only one.
What’s your managers name? I’d like to give her some karma 💅
I'm so sorry you went through that. but please get help for home situations, too. nobody should go home to be abused. sending you love & light, you will overcome this
Sorry you had to endure such awful experiences.
You should have left a long time ago. I wouldn't have put up with something like that.
Key word” Finally”
I highly recommend don’t have children, keep your life simple, no need to keep spending buying junk you don’t need, question why you think you need to buy what you think you need ..
You don’t need new a big house, trust me , you don’t!!!
Most employers expect loyalty, but offer none in return.
True.
Truth
Now that’s such a true statement. They expect one way loyalty. Now the tables have turned now they’re at the mercy of their employees…..💯
@s b Not really, these are predominantly job sectors that are rolling towards automation in the coming decade. The larger corporation stand to benefit the most from this as labor shortage stands as justification to slip over potential legislative hurdles regarding automation.
