The one important point completely left out is the fact that the US has no comprehensive privacy laws that would prohibit what Tik Tok, Google, and Facebook do all the time, sell personal data to third parties without their knowledge or expressed consent for each and every time it is sold to data brokers. (The privacy act of 1974 only applies to governmental organizations and HIPA only applies to medical/healthcare providers)
@@Michael-mh2tw "Just don't consent to data collection". That's like saying "Just don't pay for it" Without data collection, social media companies couldn't function. The issue is, what they do with all the data that is collected on you. What 3rd parties that data is sold to? And it isn't clear what you are giving consent to. If a company like Google decided to sell data collected on you to a 3rd party, they should have to gain your explicit consent to do so. Plus any data collected on you is YOURS not theirs. And it should be barred from being stored outside the United States. This is covered under EU law. There needs to be a FEDERAL law that is equivalent to the EU.
@@dmac7128 No, they actually could function without it, and have in the past, for almost 2 decades, when they relied solely on advertising. Advertising still makes up the vast majority of revenue from websites. It is very clear what you consent to, you are just too lazy to read. If you don't know what 3rd party they sell it to, and you want to know, then do not consent. They do have to gain your explicit consent, and you give that consent when you open UA-cam, etc. You can take extra precautions, but I'm assuming you don't, and still use chrome, allow cookies, allow excess javascript, and do not block other kinds of telemetry. No, data collected is not yours, by law. It is not covered under EU, only the retention of data with consent is regulated, not the sale of it. And most people still click the 'I consent' button in the EU, anyway. (I live there). It doesn't sound nice to hear, and you want to feel big by complaining about the big tech companies, but at some point you need to recognize that it's mostly your own fault if you do not take both the technical steps to avoid such issues, and the outright legally provided steps. Btw I don't see how there being a federal law would make any difference, when states are currently in a trend of creating states laws. State laws aren't simply there as temporary measures until a federal law is in place, you know. They are real, concrete and enforced laws. And yes, it is a bad idea to use your full real name online, etc. PS 'each and every time' - GDPR doesn't cover this, at all. Americans don't know what the EU is. Americans don't know that the EU commission is currently trying to essentially ban privacy by making encryption illegal. Americans don't know what they have. That's enough ranting about the EU.
@@dmac7128 2nd reply here, and probably last one - forgot to add - Yes, it *is* like saying 'don't pay for it'. If you don't want a certain set of transactions and conditions to be met when you deal with a company, then do not deal with them, or look for an alternative dealing with that company.
The government isn't concerned with our privacy but theirs. The government does the same thing to us. This is why Instagram and Facebook have different agreements with the EU cause the laws are more severe.
That's definitely true, and the US is being somewhat hypocritical considering what we now know the NSA is and has been up to since shortly after 9/11. THIS issue is different from what the NSA does merely in the fact that it is being conducted by a US adversary which poses a national security risk. There's good reason to be worried about an adversarial country collecting massive amounts of data on your population. I'm sure China is similarly worried about the NSA spying on Chinese citizens, which may have something to do with why websites like Facebook and Twitter are banned in China and blocked by their nationwide firewall and replaced by Chinese copycats. Even if we had no TikTok, privacy would still be a fairy tale. Everyone who has a cellphone, regardless of what apps they think they’ve safely installed, everyone who has a Smart TV, an AI assistant (Google Home, Alexa, etc), who uses the internet (despite tasting a VPN), who has a video doorbell, who uses credit cards, who drives a car, who uses public transportation (buses, planes, trains, Ubers, Lyfts), who goes anywhere in public, can all forget about having privacy. It does not exist and hasn’t for a long time. If no one has exposed what you thought was private, it honestly probably just wasn’t interesting enough to expose.
Total lies. Most of the Americans need an education on their own country's founding principles. America wasn't built on hating on other countries and calling it a "national security risk" whenever they don't like something. I guess again, we just need to be vigilant and read a lot. Anyways even the smartest human can be outwitted. There are so called accidents or mistakenly circumstance.
A few weeks ago I had a verbal conversation with a relative about buying new mattresses. Never searched online for a mattress in my life. A few days later my google news feed was jam packed with mattress ads. I notice stuff like this all the time. Google records every single word every human being says and uses it to target advertisements. It's mass scale felonious wiretapping.
Google also records your voices too. The smart mobiles made by china. Actually provides surveillance. It is not just your actually what you type but also voice. And the cameras as well. This is why the cameras hole is at the front of the cameras. This is how china manipulated their own people to do what they want.
A foreign adversary attacking US privacy is recieved a bit differently than the lack of oversight in the NSA. If you have failed to learn that it doesn't make me concerned it just makes me think you're an idiot.
Our politicians have the power to do something about Google's lobbying influence, so why don't they? It's because those same politicians don't want to give up their rich donors. The problem is that politicians want to target any company that threatens their own power, but they really don't care about overall principles nor how these companies affect the rest of us.
I can't believe you can tell the truth without getting cancelled, thank you. Our companies are threatened and after giving them all the technology, they can't compete with their products, so they cancel them.

Why didn’t you just say it to me?” to which I responded, “Exactly!”.
Was that Josh Hawley whining about executives not showing up to Congressional hearings because they have something to hide? Well, I do declare. He has a lot of nerve given the GOP’s past behavior. Irregardless (sic), he grandstands.
But FREEDOMS!! Congress can do this ask them why they won’t.
Yes, they do. State level. Also, just don't consent to the data collection in the settings. It is your fault, otherwise.
Yep! And seeing goons like Josh Hawley provide insight is upsetting. He's a traitor to democracy. Nothing he says can be taken at face value.
If no one has exposed what you thought was private, it honestly probably just wasn’t interesting enough to expose.
there are degrees of privacy, so it depends on the individual how much privacy they want.

but but but consumer privacy marginally reduces PROFITS, so can't have it.
you get the regulations and protections YOU VOTE FOR. If you keep falling for "small government" fanaticists, don't expect regulations on anything.
And we see how well UNREGULATED capitalism takes care of us. Look at the 1920s and 1930s.
If you only knew the game the politicians have been acting like they are there for us. We have been duped.
Google is been doing this for years and has been for the most part responsible; leaving China before turning the data to the CCP. Tiktok, has to respond to the CVP, who pays the executive bonuses.
TikTok is no worse then google,Facebook or twitter. They just hate competition
Not true. If u knew what u were talking about you’d know they collect a lot more than Google and Facebook. You people are oblivious lol, do you never ask yourselves why they would collect such vast amounts of useless data. Certain data is sold to advertisers by every company who does but TikTok records everything
The Yelp founder’s comments are hilarious as Yelp only promotes your business if you advertise with them otherwise they bury your info. Pot calling kettle black.
So, Facebook, Google, Instagram, UA-cam aren't collecting data? We don't have to give them access to our contacts and photo albums when we use them?
I’m definitely deleting TicTok right now. I suggest you stop what you are doing and get rid of the app. We got to put our foot down on what we can with privacy.
Every time you turn on your TV, use your phone, walk down the street, drive your car past an intersection, or watch this 60 Minute episode, Corporations, law enforcement, and the government are collecting your data.
Like the FBI IRON FIST operation.
I'd like a lot more governmental oversight on TikTok AND the services run by western companies. Won't happen, so in that case I'd rather in be owned by a western company. Obviously you can't assume all western countries would follow suit, but a move by the US could help buoy efforts in those countries.
Idk actually. Lately, it's actually been the E.U. that has lead the way for privacy and security regulations on the internet and in tech in general. The UK has taken special attention to this exact issue as well. It wasn't long ago that the UK hit Google with a massive fine for anti-trust violations and anti-consumer practices.
🇺🇸 Google, Amazon, Facebook, Cisco, Intel, Qualcomm, etc are CIA NSA AND USA MILITARY tools for spying. ALL THESE CORP are funded by CIA and have military trillion-dollar contracts They read your email text, listen to your calls, and view you through your camera!
I'm more worried about USA govt and media than China 6000 miles away. Congressmen have investments in these Corp and don't want to lose money!
In 2011 the USA govt CIA caught listening, reading text andemails on EU leaders! Still does spy on EVERYONE.
@@GR8APE69 Plus the UK banned Fox.
@@GR8APE69 The EU's regulations in general are on point and America should learn from it. Big Pharma is also put on a leash in the EU, meanwhile here they run amok.
@TheBucketSkill Run amok how? Ohh, you mean the amphetamine epidemic they started in the 60s? Or do you mean the benzodiazepine epidemic they started in the 70s? Wait, no, you're talking about the opioid epidemic that they started in the late 90s that has lasted through to now, right? Or are you talking about how they've gotten so many Americans dependent on SSRIs/SNRIs? Or maybe you're talking about how they... You know what? Forget it, I think the point has been made. Has it not?
I don't allow tik tok in my house and my kids haven't even been able to use it yet. I stopped that before it started. UA-cam has also been banned, except for me and my wife, and my kids won't even have their own phone for quite awhile.
Good job! I wish all parents were like you.
Nice! I believe it should be an age limit on social media just like alcohol!
god will gave you paradise for such education
Why are you hiding them from the world. They're going to be clueless when they get out there. Instead COMMUNICATE with them.
Well good luck with that..cause unless you plan on keeping them at home forever they’re just gonna look at these things when they’re not with you. How bout being logical and discuss with them safe usage of the internet. BTW if you and your wife have smart phones your usage, searches and location are being tracked. The only way to stop it is to go off the grid! I can only assume that since you’re on UA-cam you have no intention on doing that! So get over it and teach your kids and apparently yourselves about safe usage.
Google discloses way too much information about it's subscribers. This is so sick and very scarry to say the least. There is no protection of the subscribbers. Google sucks when someone wants to do a search. I can never get to what I want. Never. It is so frustrating..
She smiles her way through every answer when these are serious questions, trying to project that these aren’t serious at all, therefore we shouldn’t take the issues raised in the questions seriously, also. I never trust anyone who smiles their way through simply everything.
No one in Military or Government should allow *any* listening permissions to *any* app.
Not only TikTok. Also, the two best (and FREE) video editing apps for mobile phones are Chinese, and at least one of them is owned by the same mother company that also owns TikTok. I hope that tells something to the US content creators out there.
I pay attention to who makes a tech product. Question: is looking at the address listed for a company good enough to determine if it's foreign or not?
@annetteyoutube742 it is at least a great 1st step, but it doesn't hurt to dig in even more.
@@annetteyoutube742 absolutely not unfortunately. Almost every foreign company I look in to uses a domestic address or one in an alternate friendly/neutral country.
No. I have bought items that had Texas HQ but every time I reach out for support or need super admin account level assistance the tracked links I use say Pakistan.@@annetteyoutube742
To be clear, I think everyone in this world is entitled to earn a living and there are good people everywhere. However, I am not entrusting that data to Karachi.
Found an option in Colorado that is actually in Colorado. Now the arms of justice I have access to can reach them.
I don't have Tik Tok.
Because I'm not stupid.
Goodbye.
AMEN! 🙌
I don't have it as I don't want to become stupid, and I don't want to provide my information to the Chinese.
But you have google, twitter, FB, instagram.
But google and Facebook does it yet I don’t see any 40mins vid on it 😂😂
This video literally includes both Google and Facebook. Only the first third is about tiktok.
Hawley shouldn't be allowed to sit in Congress; it is not a place for traitors!
"If you don't pay for the value your derive or entertainment you enjoy; then know that you are the precious and valuable product." - MP
The last thing I would want to see is Hawley on this.
The joke is on Chinese government. . Monitoring Tik Tok users is like the equivalent of monitoring, Beavis and Butthead, the Kardashian family, and a group of assorted 12 year olds
😂😂😂 22:10
Maybe if they were only collecting data on the users but the terms and agreements give them the power to collect data on any phones near them its not so simple as you say AI requires data to function the ones with the most data even if it seems inconspicuous to a user can build AI models and consequences beyond what a simple user can understand , this mass collection of data and API is advancing so rapidly the future implications are vast and not clear to most
they want to know what we will spend $ on since they know we'll never pay their debt back...and we don't manufacture anything here anymore. THAT is the real vulnerability.
Funniest comment of the day! Thanks for the laugh!
The only thing in the world I agree with, Josh Hawley on. Tik Tok, FB and all of them should go. Even UA-cam collects data.
I love how Americans don’t get mad at foreign companies for price gouging insulin, but got forbid the Chinese government knows what kind of cooking tutorials I like.
I signed up for TikTok for the first time last month. I didn’t give them permission to access my contacts and etc. my account was suspended permanently the following day. I think that’s the reason why I was banned because I didn’t give permission to access my phone.
All of those TikTok videos are being harvested for biometric data. Facial recognition, micro facial expressions, and body movements can be used by AI algorithms for deepfake replication and fine-tuned mind control.
Chinese government could easily use video from anywhere and still do these things.
@@douglei4413 U.S.A. better wake up. This is more than anything the CCP could glean from any other source. TikTok provides an archivable real time direct stream of uniquely intimate psycho/physiological 4D biometric data for every users video, as well as the contextual social networking data. The biometric data for the content creator's expression is referenced with the corresponding biometric data for the entire network of consumers. It's a very unique and extremely valuable data set.
The answers from the TikTok lady are about as fake as her smile..
U.S. does the same exact thing with all of our 'big tech' companies.
I just saw a great video on why we can’t find anything on Google anymore. It’s because of SEO advertising of course.
SEO isn't advertisement. It's a set of rules and protocols that helps pages get ranked in results. The rules are available to everyone to access to optimize their websites
spy using social media apps can happen the problem is why some countries are alowed to do it (espacially us ) while other countries can't do it
She's protecting her income and if she shares with us what really goes on we'll cease using the sites or cut back considerably on what we post.
TikTok should be called "Trojan Horse". We need a law like the EU has. It is frightening how free these companies are with our information.
The companies say they will give the person's data to the person? NO!!! These companies need to start from square 1 and have permission for any data they have on a person. Use the European law for a model.
I wonder if they map everyone's environment with the lidar in our phones.
This is how OnStar knows if you are the one driving your car, or someone else is:
Your PERSONAL driving pattern HABITS. Whether you HABITUALLY don't do jack rabbit starts; or don't drive over a specific speed; or it can even sense your personal body weight and that of your regular passengers; how you apply your brakes; the times and days you activate and use your vehicle, etc.
Most people don't drive well and if you ever had a family member killed by a reckless distracted motorist, you'd want more technology in cars too. OR more comprehensive public transportation so driving is less necessary.
It's wrong that people can get a license at 16 and then never have to take a refresher on laws and driving ever again.
"Right on Red" also meeds to be banned, a 70s holdback that directly harms pedestrians.
Self driving cars will save many lives if we can think with facts. The facts are that humans aren't very good drivers.
Her answers are so evasive. Wow. The lies and corruption. She has sold her soul for money and power.
The American peoples should and MUST HAVE FULL SAY SO OVER THIER OWN PERSONAL DATA JUST LIKE OTHER PEOPLE HAVE WHO LIVE IN OTHER COUNTRYS. THE AMERICAN PEOPLES HAVE BEEN INTENTIONALLY KEPT IN THE DARK ABOUT ALL THESE THINGS BUT MY GUESS IS THAT IF AMERICANS WERE GIVEN ALL THIS INFORMATION AND MADE AWARE OF ALL THIS THAT MORE PEOPLE WOULD SPEAK UP AND SPEAK OUT AND STAND UP AND SHOUT ABOUT IT IN ORDER TO BRING CHANGE ABOUT TO THE UNITED STATES
if you wrote something you where not suppose to in Gmail or other, they can use it against you, this folder is not only created by google, Facebook, Microsoft, and apple, and it is endless. apple has your face.. Microsoft gets into your computer when it wants to and you may be sleeping, they make money with your info and it is everywhere in the end, I have a google nest hub , I am sure it listens to everything we say. Microsoft is making IDs for India, some day for the US. Corporations are more and more , wanting the technology China uses to control its citizens, you get a 3 for writing this in you tube, we can't trust you and you will never get a job in our corporation, your values are not the way we see them.
CAPS LOCK OR NOT, DOESNT CHANGE THE FACT THAT YOU DONT HAVE TO USE THE SERVICE.
Tell that to Edward Snowden...
Good topics but It would have more impact if they gave a couple details of what Cjina could do with the information they gain. Most Americans won't care unless you give them a reason to care
I think it's obvious but you are correct, a lot of people need it spelled out for them. We can see in the comment section that some have missed the point entirely.
They see EVERYTHING WE DO. THERE IS NO MORE PRIVACY.
They should get a life!!
The people who are speaking out are telling the truth
And Donald Trump tried to stop this years ago and everyone else is just now catching on.....TOO LATE
harley needs to be Locked up in jail for starting up the riots on the capital but No he is more worried about TikTok WTF ....... lol
Unbelievable that youtube has this up for people to see!
I own a phone and several other devices like everyone else but I don't get on much social media. I casually use Facebook for mostly family pics and marketplace for buying a car. I use You Tube (obviously) but only for interested things such as DIY vids or music and docs. As for Tik Tok and all the other social media apps they get no use at all. I like technology to a certain extent but it is destroying us at the same time. The world is slipping into the weird times and we all got front row seats.
Exactly, 💯% Rob, I'm like you.
Absolutely! My cousin threw her teenage son a New Year’s Eve party with his friends several years ago. Once the countdown ended, I expected loud cheers, a mass distribution of hugs, etc. Instead, every single kid in that room quietly texted other friends that were not there Happy New Year’s. Not a word was said to the people in that very room with them. I too quietly texted ‘Happy New Year’s’ to my cousin’s son and he exclaimed, “Why would you do that? You’re right here! Why didn’t you just say it to me?” to which I responded, “Exactly!”.
appreciate this 60 minutes!
Thank you for your honesty.
Was that Josh Hawley whining about executives not showing up to Congressional hearings because they have something to hide? Well, I do declare. He has a lot of nerve given the GOP’s past behavior. Irregardless (sic), he grandstands.
Irregardless? 🤣
As soon as he said imagine you wake up tomorrow.. who does he think he is.. Rod Serling?
