Glad to see that Gearwrench didn’t give you 296 star or hex bits, a case, a driver and a ⅜” ratchet and call it a “300 piece set”
I’ve been waiting for a video like this!
Justin those gear wrench sets are awesome I have 3 of them 1 in each vehicle well worth the money!!! Great video buddy
Thanks I'll buy the Gearwrench to keep at work. Keep the videos coming
I like the 15 mm in the 1/4" drive myself as well. I worked at an Auto Part Store while I was going to college using my G.I. Bill and they sold a lot of Gear Wrench tools. I bought a few things. Great video bro.
Most Beautiful set ive seen i would buy if i was starting out im very impressed
Thought the video turned into an auction at around 10 minutes in..lol... Great video! 🔧🔩💪
Just bought this GearWrench set and I absolutely love it. The quality and ammount of items they give you is amazing. Just checked amazon and its being sold for 274$ at this moment in time.
its $405 right now :(
@@aaronmalone4540 me
@@aaronmalone4540 I got my 243 6 pt set with 90 tooth ratchets for 299 Amazon
6 point wrenches are some of the best for not rounding off 6 point fasteners but are more fussy on fitting onto the fasteners. I used 6 points for years and for the most part they have always been my go to wrenches when working on vehicles, once a 6 point wrench is engage oh do they really rock on getting off stubborn bolts and nuts. One thing I don't like about six points is if they don't quite fit either the opening is slightly to small or there is a bit slop in the opening back to the 12 point. In aircraft most fasteners are 12 point and are extremely easy to round off if care is not taken right from the start. Steady and even pressure are the keys with the 12 point fasteners. If I have the clearances I actually prefer a little wider wrench as the thin ones just don't have the surface area to completely engage the fasteners.
A guy that taught me a lot when I was starting out told me to get that gearwrench set and I wish I had. The similar Craftsman set I got did the job but had a lot of filler tools and crappy ratchets.
GREAT CONTENT AS ALWAYS, EXPLAINED V ERY WELL.
Now that is how a tool tour should be done !!! No BS just telling us what's in each kit. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and videos, Rodney
btw I also like the cases they come in. Nice and compact, yet each piece has it's spot. Nicely organized and must be well marked for you to read them out so fast. Thanks again, Rodney
That Gearwrench set is NICE!
Im loving that gear wrench set.
Vessel screwdrivers are awesome I have that set had them them for little over a year it’s my go to screwdrivers
Great video! Thanks for the info!
I have some Gearwrench tools and just love them.
The fleet maintenance shop I work in started out with Gearwrench tool boxes/sets and the only significant failures we had were in the breaker bars ( A couple of them). They were basically replaced with Matco boxes & tools later on due to government contract deal but we still keep the Gearwrench tools in the service truck and our pit. I have the 3/8 and 1/4 flex head comfort grip at home. I would consider buying that 243 piece set if I didn't already buy the Husky 200 -socket set a couple months ago for my home box. (discounted to $80, couldn't pass up that deal)
Now the husky 200pc set is $59 bucks @ homedepot 1-14-20
Nice set for sure. I love 6 point wrenches.
JIS, Japanese industrial standard
Vessel great tool, used by mechanics on Japanese Motorcycles for years.
They are also factory magnetized.
You can feel the difference in fit on Asian products (screws), it's an ah- ha moment when you use them.
I've eyeballed both the Craftsman and Gearwrench sets to replace the smaller set I keep in my truck. I'm more apt to go with the Gearwrench set. NAPA has it in their quarterly deals catalog for $299. I know it's pert near twice the price of the Craftsman set, yet the Gearwrench set still seems the better value. Now I see NAPA is has some Craftsman stuff available. I've exchanged texts with a retail development manager at NAPA and he explained the sale of Craftsman is a trial run of trying to capture some revenue due to the "Craftsman" name. I'd put Gearwrench a few rungs above the "new' Craftsman for quality.
@Joe Mcmillan no doubt about that. I'm trying to give Gearwrench a chance. Although I've issues with some of the reversible ratcheting wrenches, I bought the swivel head 3/8" drive ratchet. No issues yet with all the times I have used it.
I want that gearwrench set but I've got so many tools now I've been collecting tools for 40 years and I choose the 6 point over the 12 point but you got to have a set of 12 point tools as well
I'm loving Gearwrench too. Crescent I like too
Old school mechanic, I seen all types of tools and tool boxes with mechanic tools in them, so far the best but expensive is the Snap on GMTK mechanic tool kit or set. But hay thats just my personal opinion, but that Gearwrench 243pc tool set is pretty right on point on a good mechanic tool set. And pretty decent price, as far as those combination 6 point wrenches. I probably swap them out with there racheting wrenches. I am pretty sure they will fit in the slots, but is probably gonna be a snug fit. But overall great review on comparison on both tool mechanic set. 😊👍
I like to see a set of screwdrivers replaced the slotted with common torx in place of them
+1 for the Vessel JIS impact. You don't need it every day, but when you there's nothing better.
I’ve got a similar Craftsman set if I had it to over Gearwrench for sure!
Their 90 tooth ratchets are butter smooth and top notch.
Um, what brand?
I haven't adjusted to the size-shape of the gearwrench sockets so i gave my 3/8 set to my son. Most of my sockets and a few wrenches, i do have gearwrench ratchet wrenches, are either sears craftsman or snap-on, yeah i still buy sears craftsman.
Awesome video
That’s a nice gearwrench set
If anyone talks bad about China craftsman they clearly haven’t used it. My first kit was the 108pc set. I’ve fixed lawnmowers, snowblowers, atv’s, weed wackers, and cars w that set. The sockets are great. The ratchets I’ve never replaced the 3/8 but the 1/4 in one time when new. I still use the shallow sockets out of that set today and haven’t bought any because they still work. I’ve had that set for 3 years now. Anytime I see a person saying China craftsman is junk I know they haven’t used it. Just following everyone else’s lead is all. Great vid Justin, I don’t like gearwrench due to a warranty issue I had a long time ago. Long story short they wouldn’t warranty a brand new wrench that wasn’t working. That turned me from them and their so called warranty. That’s my experience and not everyone will have the same result. Great comparison 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. I do have the semi deep gearwrench sets and they’re awesome. I’ve used them along w my craftsman’s on my m12 and I’ve had no issues.
If you changing out Honda rotors. The striking plate Vessel screwdriver is awesome. I have an Odyssey. I use it.
I gotta say i really like pittsburgh 301 piece, comes woth torx bits hex bits and screwdriver which kinda blow but better than a bunch of stupid bits, also comes with some trashy wrenches but they work, best part is a complete set of 6 point 1/4 3/8 1/2 deep and shallow sockets
Vessel screwdrivers are nice. The 2 piece craftsman impact screwdriver set is made by Vessel.
I picked up a 450 Craftsman socket set off Sears website 149.99 I haven't used yet but for around house it should be pretty decent
Those vessel screwdrivers are pretty official. Great for those special jobs on older Japanese cars like distributors and iac valves
Its cool youtube, i didnt want the notification when this video came out 5 days ago 🙄🤦♂️
husky 268 piece was on sale for $129 and i got one best deal out there in my opinion
My heart says buy craftsman, but my brain tells me buy gearwrench.😭😭😭😭
Buy both of them!
Buy once cry once get the gearwrench
Gearwrench
like the old home shopping network!
He was saying those things numbers so fast I thought for a second if I were now watching an auction. Lol
The only thing I don't like about these cases (I've had a craftsmen set for about ten years) are the drawers cannot be closed up when using separately. Always afraid I was gonna drop it while carrying over to a job. That's the only reason I don't like them. If they had a locking lid for transporting them separately I might upgrade to a new set like the gear wrench. Might do that anyway.
I've bought a lot of unnecessary stuff off the gearwrench truck including 3 of those kits for my sons. We've been using them on various repairs and I use some of it at work. I'm happy overall with their stuff but I'm moving along to tekton.
You can get the Craftsman 224 set at ACE for $99 *after you apply you ace card. Granted not the best tools, but $99 makes them a good deal.
How do the cases hold up? That seems to be the biggest complaint from some of the blow molded cases.
Thank you for your awesome! review
Glad it was helpful!

I’ve never heard someone call a swivel joint extension a “wobble”. Lol
I got the craftsman 2 pc set that are made by vessel I believe they are cheaper and it's the 12 degree ones like he said
The question I really wanted to ask is how are the Vulcan screw drivers holding 3man and where can I get them from as well as how much will a set run?
That’s a very nice set if I had a gear wrench truck would be worth it. But I have to ship them the tool and wait a week for a new one.
Spot-on with the gimmick tool throw-ins. Craftsman is known for throwing in allen wrench sets. I already have half a dozen different sets of allen wrenches and don't need any more. But somehow craftsman always throws them in as a filler.
Same with Crescent.
It could be just me but I think you missed some sockets in the first drawer of the gearwrench set. Also i would of liked to see in focus a top view of each drawer.
So do you think the gun metal sets are worth it? About to buy a set to keep in my 4x4.
I have the craftsman #CMMT12038 kit. Love it.
On the bottom drawer were the wrenches are in. I mix it up, I have my metric wrenches 12pt & my SAE wrenches 6pt.
Vessel screw drivers are dope and worth the money I bought a set to try and I think they are bad ass
I was just looking for a set for working on Japanese motorcycles. Where did you find them ?

Hey justin what do you think huskys 268pc tool set
Great video. I know it's almost a year old at this point, but I do have a question- What would you recommend as an emergency repair tool kit for to keep in the car? I would consider one of these, but it seems to be missing some things I would consider essential for that type of a kit. Have you found your ideal emergency road repair kit? Have you done a video on building one? Thanks.
The Craftsman 224 pc set shown is now $129 at Lowe’s and Amazon. Can’t beat that price!
119.99 at Ace -$20.00 for joining the customer loyalty club for the Craftsman set. Hard to beat that.
Geoffrey Johnson Ace has it for $99.99
Lowes has it for 99$ just picked mine up with another 25$ gift card 82$ out the door not gona complain about "china made" for that price
Craftsman=skipped sizes
Tons of bits and allen keys
12 point sockets.
The gearwrench set has all ratcheting wrenches 90 tooth
90 tooth ratchets and all 6 point sockets no skip
I love my Husky set. Very similar to this but I prefer mine just because I’m more local to a Home Depot than a Sears/Lowe’s/Ace
Neither or worthy of holding proto's hat
Maybe the gearwrench's x beam 🤔 ( yea I like the x beams) 😀
I wish there was an all metric mech tool set, in plastic case. Great video.
victor arevalo sears has a 3/8 or 1/2 all metric sets with 90 tooth ratchets for $49. I bought from Sears - much better than expected!
I believe gearwrench had all metric sets available. They show on their website, with links to suppliers.
The workpro looks good.
I bought the one with the adjustable 90 teeth wrenches. Hopefully good one!
can u do a review on the pittsburg 301 pc set please lol
Are gearwrench thinking off buying some spanners and sockets
Hey justin how is the the gearwrench 253pc set holding up and how much did you pay for them man? I like the gearwrench set better and I'm looking into getting one of these sets if I can find one so please help me with this man
Video starts at 6:21
Bought that craftsman set recently for like $150 at Lowe’s. The case is junk shit, I have a really nice toolbox I inherited and I just took out the drawers and put the whole drawer inside the drawers of my tool box, they were a perfect fit thickness wise.
All around great tools, and the lifetime warranty is nice too, craftsman isn’t going anywhere.
Another great video. Where are the gear wrench tools made USA?
Taiwan
Sears.com has some crazy sales right now
What up cuz!!!
Nice review. Also thanks for being honest about the Icon soft metal problem with their sockets. Saved me $$ since I almost bought them. Dodged a bullet there.
Hope your family had a good halloween 👍👍🤘🤘
The Gear-wrench set/box looks like the Husky set in a lot of ways...but is probably much better.
It's certainly is, the gearwrench is probably one of the best intermediate brands. The next step up would be a Snap-On, etc. There's nothing wrong with the cost/quality of the husky, pretty equivalent to the Pittsburgh line from harbor freight. But all you have to do is compare those to the feel and usability of the gearwrench, and the difference becomes easy to tell. Plus gearwrench has a very wide array of tasks specific sets and specialty tools, to compliment what you started as you add more tools.
U should be the guy that calls the prices for auctions
do you ever just look at a tool set and feel like a little kid again on Christmas and want to ask your parents for it that's how I feel right now I'm 15 and I got a good tool set but more and more I learn I'm having to buy new sockets for the job and if anyone is looking for a good non slip joint tool set power torch makes a good one it comes with a 90 byte ratchet I never had one till a few months ago and I love it
I absolutely do. Like a kid in a candy store or gas station. lol
I'm surprised something like this is not full of filler.
Justin, Gearwrench vs tekton which do you feel are a better value and will hold up in the long run?
Craftsman ! Absolute best bang for the money.
@@mycorrhizae1832 lol....
Tekton is a very durable tool company. Gearwrench is probably slightly better but I love my tekton stuff and I use them side by side
From both gearrench 🤘
I am no pro but I have never actually worn out a chrome socket that wasn’t used on an impact
Jay Dee I’ve been using old Huskey Chrome sockets on my impacts for 3 years straight, at a motorcycle dealership
My dad has never broken a socket no matter how cheap it was. He’s used them on heavy duty impact wrenches for taking the sprockets off of his skid steer. Always seen the ratchets or drivers break before the socket.
I broke 3 Craftsman USA 9/16 sockets on a seized alternator bolt one time.(No power tools used.) Ended up having to cut the alternator out of the engine to get it changed.
brotherbrian1 should have used a bigger drive tool
So the gear wrench set is strictly 6 point sockets?
Thanks for the upload
Gearwrench sells two identical sets one 12 point one 6 point.
What’s the model on the 242 Gear Wrench set? In the video he mentions/shows it’s a 6 point set but the link in the description it’s to a 12 point set. I’m looking for a 6 point set.
I want the 6pt set too but I can't find it anywhere!
80966
Mark Fox got lots of Vessel brand
6:50 you say these boxes are better built than kobalt.. I really like the metal clips on the kobalt... both of these use plastic to hold the top on... my old set had 4 plastic clips and 3 are broken now lol
They missed the 4.5 mm in the gearwrench set
I wonder how the GreaWrench compares to the CRAFTSMAN 243-Piece Mechanic's Tool Set?
@Joe Mcmillan I got the GearWrench set on black friday. I'm happy with my set
Gearwrench has been annoying me lately but that would be a decent set, especially after I swapped in one of their 90t compact head ratchets and/or maybe some of their new 120xp. And also add a set of 90t ratcheting wrenches.
Gear wrench yep
Do any of the big box stores sell the gearwrench set?
My local advance does
@@juanval026 your advance sells this 243 piece GW set?
That craftsman one is on sale at ACE right now for 115 where I am
Does ace carry gear wrench?
@@derekquinones8614 only a very small selection at least at my ace. They have the ratcheting wrenches and that’s about it
I wish it had a empty compartment for other stuff that you will need when fixing shit out & about.
Man, same. The whole video I’m thinking that gearwrench set is awesome but no extra storage space.
JIS is still used,in Japanese motorcycles,ATVs and certain motorcycle carburetors
A guy I work with was talking about all the screwed up screws on his old atv, I told him he needs a set of good JIS screwdrivers and that won't happen.
Mark Fox,he advises the use of them on Japanese motorcycles a lot including the carburetors
Are you sure the Craftsman set is made in China? I bought one of the smaller sets around Black Friday last year, and the blow mold case DEFINITELY says "Made in Taiwan".
Saying "utilize" when you could say "use" is just like nails on a chalkboard to me, lol. I cringe.
But he's the guy with the ambition to actually make videos and he makes great videos. Good on him.
👍
JIS (Japanese industrial standard) has different geometry for the tip. Phillips crosspoint screws are designed to cam out when the screw gets tight. Japanese Cars and motorcycles use JIS screws and you need a Vessel JIS screwdriver to remove those screws...looks like a Phillips BUT NOT A PHILLIPS!!
What's the price on the gear wrench set ?
Craftsman good value.
Gear wrench look good also !

Psst, what about the HF 301 piece set?
