Pittsburg 301 pc set is the best bang for you buck. I’ve been using it for the last two years. I’m not a mechanic but I work on my car every week and built my drift car with it. Tools held up for the most part. The pliers that broke I’ve been able to get replaced thanks to the life time warranty. I definitely recommend Pittsburg 301 pc. Only think I don’t like are the cheap wrenches
I have both of the HarborFreight tool sets the small one in my truck and the 301 peace at home never had an issue and it’s well worth the money. I did open All the ratchets and greased them.
EVA sets suit me because I'm a maintenance mechanic at a plant and I have a toolbox on wheels I gotta roll around. I don't need the case, I just need to upgrade tools/add on tools. Extras are always welcome.
I have the HF 301 piece which I picket up for $150and it's great for the $$. One thing I wish were offered is comprehensive sets in metric only. Like many people, I very rarely need SAE. Doing it again I'd consider the metric ratchet and socket sets by Tekton. They have full metric sets with ratchets in separate 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" kits. All three would go over $200, but in practice as a DIYer I find that if I use 1/2", it's usually impact.
Had a 228 peice kobalt set I got a couple years back for Black Friday at $100 and the ratchets were junk and sockets would not stay in place in the shelves when having it in the back of my truck in the tool box, now this past Black Friday I got a new craftsman black chrome set for $150 but boy is it like night and day, craftsman set does well for me

Tekton needs to do this again. I ordered there new 3 socket set bundle for $350 a couple weeks ago and really like it. They bundled the 1/4" , 3/8" and 1/2" sets into the bundle. It saves $30 over buying them one at a time. Plus you get 10 percent back. So $35 back to buy more tools.😁

Husky and Kobalt sets seems good value but wrenches have so smooth handles without any texture so they just slip in my hands, especially when greasy it so difficult to use those wrenches. Nice review of what is available. I must admit these kind of sets have always perplexed me, though. No room for growth or ability to customize for your personal needs. A good way to get a lot of tools cheaply but beyond that, I have never been tempted by anything like these.
I’ve got a nice Craftsman set for sockets, bits, and a bunch of other random things. I expand with what I need and keep it separately, but it definitely is nice to have a good comprehensive set laying around. I always start with one that has great sockets, and expand from there.
That Husky 290 piece is back up to $229 unfortunately but at $149 is a great set. Has a lot more sockets than the 270 set which has a lot of bits. It also includes some deep 1/2” drive sockets, and has a much better case. Was hoping to see it at $99 also but that’s probably wishful thinking.
I bought that husky set during the black Friday month deal last year. . . I'm sure they'll do it again this year. I have that for the inside home repair & I have a craftsmen set of 278 for outside dirty home, oil changes. Cuz as a man, u can never have "too many tools"
Hello again Tony Thank you once again for another Great Video. Yes, please do another video of the $500. Box sets. And I agree with you about the wasted space. I would have to believe the engineer that dream it up, must not have a clue.
Can you recommend a toolset for me for under $100. I want to start learning to work on cars. There’s Black Friday sale going on right now so I thought It would be a good time to buy a set along with drills and other stuff. I bought the drills and drivers but I need a mechanic tool set recommendation from you. I’d appreciate that.
Basically any of those small 3 drawer tool box sets are great when they are on sale right now at 100. You can find alot of videos on them but they all basically come with the same variety of tools so then it's really choosing what brand you prefer. Like Craftsman, husky, kobalt.
@@TonyTheTechnician I was looking at husky but then I think it’s sold out so I couldn’t get the chance to grab it. Do you think I should wait because I don’t know which one to get. I heard that these kinds of tool sets have sockets that they have missing. So I don’t know which sockets are important and such ones aren’t.
A fact that I brought up in one of my videos that no one else mentions about new Craftsman is that they have 2 tiers. The cheaper tier is the Craftsman Chrome, made in China and not very good quality, however their 2nd slightly more expensive tier is the Craftsman Gun Metal Chrome, made in Taiwan, quality is very much on par with (or better than) ICON, Tekton, Capri and GearWrench. . . . in fact 2 prominent UA-camrs (Justin Dow, Backwoods Mechanic) both tested Craftsman Gun Metal Chrome against ICON (one month heavy usage each) and the Craftsman Gun Metal Chrome held up much better than ICON (wear and tear) . . . . but strangely, almost no one on UA-cam even acknowledges that Craftsman has a higher quality 2nd tier line
Ya I think that's just bc not that many people are really buying craftsman anymore. And if they are it's usually people who don't care what type of quality it is. Which is sad but often the case. But I must say when I did my holiday store walk through I saw the two exact same sets. One chrome for 120 and one gun metal for like 80 but the exact same sets. The gun metal to me was definitely the better deal not just bc of price but it just looked so much better
I have a Kobalt set like that one at 8 minutes, a bit different setup, but that box type. I can say the sockets, where the grips are are VERY shallow, like looking into them I thought they were flat in some lighting. Sure it was on sale only I think about $80 or so, but yeah, I think I will give this one away and get a much higher quality Dewalt set.
Yeah those harbor freight tool kits may not be the highest quality, but for your normal home auto repair problems I would not say its a bad investment. Not to mention most to all of the decent kits have a lifetime warranty, so the labels say
@@TonyTheTechnician You are welcome. I found out that some of their hand tools have a lifetime warranty and some only have a year. Everything that I looked had the one year warranty.
Last Christmas they had the 268 piece or the 270 piece for $99. I picked up the 268. After looking at what was included the 268 had like 20 more sockets and 6 more wrenches, but less bits. It was the much better deal. Sucks they discontinued it.
I've been thinking about a kit like these but then I'm realizing I'd have to carry pliers, hammer... separately. I'm going to look into those stacking systems since I have multiples of everything I'd put in there already
Ya I have the Craftsman versastack and it's been great so far. Had it about 2 months now. I don't own the versa stack socket set but alot of the other organizers. Bad thing about the stackable sets is they are usually more expensive
They definitely add up. I'm thinking about the dewalt tstak. Same thing but with a deep drawer available. I wish the base opened on the front though. I'd like to be able to access everything without taking it apart. I actually think the hart one looks pretty nice but they don't have drawers available
@@gregblau8082 I just bought the Craftsman 216 versastack socket set lastnight. It seems pretty nice. I do like the the tstak and the versa stack can be mixed and matched
I also have the 225 pc Pittsburgh set. Pretty decent suitcase but the lower portion has all the sockets not secured, so if you do not open it right or drop it partially open you will have a big mess! Nice tools otherwise.
I would Love a comparison of Husky 270 piece verse others and what sizes were skipped in each set. I also do not like them making us feel stupid by adding in fillers.
Hey man I really enjoyed the video man. Please make more like this and also include more of the gear wrench sets and kobalt and husky sets going up to closer to 450 or 500$$$ mark please
@@TonyTheTechnician no problem man. I'm a mechanic by trade and choose to buy tools wisely regardless of brand because snap on is a RIP off if I have ever seen one. Ad well what is the size of the husky tool box that you have behind you at the beginning of the video please? Is it a 56in.?
Cool 😎 ya I’m looking to upgrade my old craftsman set I’ve had for about twenty five years. I’m looking at some of the De Walt sets ! But every time I see one I like it’s not available go figure!!
I would said those 130 piece sets from Harbor Freight are just emergency wrenches. I bought that tool set and one of the short screw drivers was not machined at all!!! They forgot to machine it and put it in the set all the same. Took the set back and they gave me a new set and tossed the old one!?!? Was not worth the trouble to them. I do not blame them but they could have at least recycled it.
I would love to see a video with higher priced tool sets. Even higher quality would be nice. That would be so awesome if Tekton made a set without all the filler pieces
I hate warranties like that. I am not holding onto receipts for warranties. That's when you start to see which tool brands really believe in there own tools. This isn't 1970, better ways to handle warranty are available lol
It doesn’t get better than the HF 301pc. The wrenches are cheesy and the pliers suck, but there is no better selection of quality sockets anywhere for twice the price.
Idk i think this ones got it beat www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DWMT75049-Mechanics-Tools-Piece/dp/B01BHJE0J4/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=dewalt+192+piece+mechanics+tools+set&qid=1623369309&sprefix=dewalt+192&sr=8-3
I already got plenty of wrenchs screwdrivers, allens, etc I just basically wanted a pure socket set 1/4 3/8 1/2 So i think "socket for socket" its even with HF 301 but dewalt is made in taiwan
Thats the exact set I own and have had it for 6 years now. It's an amazing set. And same here. I already had plenty of wrenches and screwdrivers. I just wanted All the sockets
@@TonyTheTechnician Ok, so im definitely right that the DW192 has all the sockets the HF 301 has? I mean i kinda compared them, but i didn't go over every last socket that both sets come with
for roadside repairs I want high quality tools texton kobalt mac matco or snap on. Who wants to be changing a tire on a rainy cold night and have your 19 mm or 3/4 socket break because the lug not is a little bit tight. sorry harbor freight I don't trust you for that.
Brand does not matter. What matters is if the tool can and will hold up over time of doing these same type of repairs over and over again. That's what I'm looking for is quality not quantity people
You must be out of your goddamn mind if you say the 268 piece craftsman set is better than a versa stack kit. Did you even look to see what the difference is in tools?
Yes and I'm guessing you haven't. I own the versa stack set and really enjoy it. And the 268 pc set is also a good set. You can get them both on sale around the same prices. Both sets include a bunch of random bits and Allen keys. Both have a bad selection of wrenches. The versa stack has around 110 sockets the 268 pc set has around 150 sockets so they are basically the same sets just different cases and more in one set. So please tell me what are you so worked up about!!!!
I still say this is your best bang for the buck.... get this and Dewalt's Metric combination wrench set for like $35 and you will be in good shape for many years...www.amazon.com/dp/B01BHJE0J4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_8qzYFbMNJQJD6 I do like the Husky set for quality it's just got a lot of filler in it as does the Kobalt box... I had the Kobalt box and ended up giving it to my brother but the year or so that I had it it performed the way it should....
That's the exact set I have from dewalt and love it. That's the primary tool set I have in my husky box. Killer set at a great price. Completely agree!!! It's also nice it doesn't have a bunch of filler stuff
@@TonyTheTechnician yeah...2 sets of "Allen" wrenches... and the prominent hex/torx sockets you'll need... The rest is stuff you'll use... like ratchets, extensions, and sockets 1/4" drive..3/8" drive, and 1/2"... and all the sockets deep and standard length....great kit....🏁

That's exactly what I thought. I like that it's not a bunch of filler items. And ya I got the 2 drawer organizer as well
I went with Pittsburgh 301pc .set.
I also have the 225 pc Pittsburgh set. Pretty decent suitcase but the lower portion has all the sockets not secured, so if you do not open it right or drop it partially open you will have a big mess! Nice tools otherwise.
Place a sheet of cardboard or tool box drawer liner between the trays to keep them in place.
I would Love a comparison of Husky 270 piece verse others and what sizes were skipped in each set. I also do not like them making us feel stupid by adding in fillers.
I would be interested 250+ bundles
Great content as usual. Thanks for the info Tony. Keep it up yo.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed
Hey man I really enjoyed the video man. Please make more like this and also include more of the gear wrench sets and kobalt and husky sets going up to closer to 450 or 500$$$ mark please
I can do that. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. 👍👍👍
@@billyingram5394 that's understandable and smart. It's the husky 52 inch 👍
Cool 😎 ya I’m looking to upgrade my old craftsman set I’ve had for about twenty five years. I’m looking at some of the De Walt sets ! But every time I see one I like it’s not available go figure!!
Haha ya I know what you mean. I have one of the dewalt sets and I love it
Would have liked to see DeWalt included. Great job on covering all the others.
Ya I want to do one specifically on the set that I have. 👍
@@TonyTheTechnician
What one do you have?
@@professionalamateur1549 I have the Dewalt 192 PC set. And it's been amazing. amzn.to/3geMgj6
@@professionalamateur1549 I am considering the DeWALT 192 piece set
I have had very good results with that socket set
Where can i find husky 270 set available on ship-to-home option? Cant seem to find it anywhere.
Check Home Depot website
I would said those 130 piece sets from Harbor Freight are just emergency wrenches. I bought that tool set and one of the short screw drivers was not machined at all!!! They forgot to machine it and put it in the set all the same. Took the set back and they gave me a new set and tossed the old one!?!? Was not worth the trouble to them. I do not blame them but they could have at least recycled it.
Haha oh dang. Good to know. Thanks for sharing
I would love to see a video with higher priced tool sets. Even higher quality would be nice. That would be so awesome if Tekton made a set without all the filler pieces
They offer sets with ratchet and sockets only, even just metric or SAE.
@@kenweller2032 I have the 1/4" and 3/8" full sets. I have plans on getting the half inch set soon.
I'm interested in all tool kits
Haha me too
@@TonyTheTechnician well I'm a mechanic what more do I need to say man. Trying to save a buck anywhere I can man
Unfortunately, we have to deal with an abundance of bits with these sets.
Ya alot of filler items for sure
Yep lots of filler, and most of it is junk lol
Husky tools if you don't have the original receipt they won't warranty them same with the new craftsman at Lowe's
Idk i think this ones got it beat
www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DWMT75049-Mechanics-Tools-Piece/dp/B01BHJE0J4/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=dewalt+192+piece+mechanics+tools+set&qid=1623369309&sprefix=dewalt+192&sr=8-3
I already got plenty of wrenchs screwdrivers, allens, etc
I just basically wanted a pure socket set
1/4 3/8 1/2
So i think "socket for socket" its even with HF 301 but dewalt is made in taiwan
Thats the exact set I own and have had it for 6 years now. It's an amazing set. And same here. I already had plenty of wrenches and screwdrivers. I just wanted All the sockets
@@TonyTheTechnician
Ok, so im definitely right that the DW192 has all the sockets the HF 301 has?
I mean i kinda compared them, but i didn't go over every last socket that both sets come with
If you get the Kobalt set throw those junk ratchets away.
Ya I have heard that from a couple of people
A Buddy of mine had the kobalt set and the 3/8 and 1/2 ratchets just locked up the first time he used it.
Wait. Sioux City Iowa? I’m from council bluffs! Hi, neighbor!
for roadside repairs I want high quality tools texton kobalt mac matco or snap on. Who wants to be changing a tire on a rainy cold night and have your 19 mm or 3/4 socket break because the lug not is a little bit tight. sorry harbor freight I don't trust you for that.
AMEN to that for a fact man
Hahaha that's a great point as well 👍👍👍
When you are doing roadside repairs you count and depend on you tools to do their job and not fail you or let you down. So I agree with you man
Ya that's a very good point
Brand does not matter. What matters is if the tool can and will hold up over time of doing these same type of repairs over and over again. That's what I'm looking for is quality not quantity people
Husky box is now $319.99
You must be out of your goddamn mind if you say the 268 piece craftsman set is better than a versa stack kit.
Good info but Almost fell asleep.
Drink coffee lol. Thanks and sorry I should have tried to make it a little shorter
I still say this is your best bang for the buck.... get this and Dewalt's Metric combination wrench set for like $35 and you will be in good shape for many years...www.amazon.com/dp/B01BHJE0J4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_8qzYFbMNJQJD6
I do like the Husky set for quality it's just got a lot of filler in it as does the Kobalt box...
@@boosted2.4_sky ya it's a very nice wide selection kit for sure!!!
Walmart has a 215 pc HART tool set for $148.
