What's funniest to me as a 30 year old, is that Tommy spends so much time talking about feeling the groove and how important it is to play well. I remember how when I was 17 I would have thought "Yeah yeah yeah blah blah, I can count 'til 4 and have great sense of rythmn, spare me the tips for total neophytes" and couldn't play anything in good time. Now at my age I know just how different it is to hear in your head time, and be actually able to feel it and play it. You might think you've got it because your brain is able to count and know when you should be playing, but actually being able to get your body to do what's in your head or ears takes a lot of practice, and now, I make keeping the groove going my number 1 priority in my playing.
Yeah, I never practised with a metronome because I thought pretty much the same thing - I have a good in-built clock, and four isn't that hard to count to. I wish I could go back in time and rectify that. So many players (myself included) have an overconfident assessment of their own sense of time.
Best player, best Teacher. True Musician. True Master. Thank you so much for these video's dear Tommy !!! I really dig it and appreciate them all ...!!😍😍😍😍🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️👌👌👌👌💛💛💛💛
I met him and believe me you dont often cry around him bcz he lights up every cell in your body& even a big smile will come across your face& you just watch & listen& heal. Then inspired, you share it & him with others😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩🔥🔥🔥😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍
@@lindamon5101 That's totally true! I've met him when I was 8 years old, he signed my shirt, talked for a while. Tommy is just exploding with positive energy! Happiness radiates from him, it's amazing!
My son got me a meet and greet at one of his shows in upstate NewYork for a birthday gift when I opened the card I broke into tears couldn’t help myself had two more meet and greets since the first….
I get it. I first heard boom chick when I stumbled on a video of Tommy in Issoudun, France. It was 2018 when he finally woke up out of my musical rut. 10yrs with zero inspiration to pick up my guitar. Fingerstyle is a lifestyle and commitment most guitarists never achieve or even attempt.
These days, I watch this video, the first 6 minutes or so, everyday...before I pick up my guitar for practice. I am beginning to see a huge difference!! Just try, and you will see the rewards. You will discover the guitarist in your self.
Tommy, you are the John Entwistle, Les Claypool and Michael Jordan of rhythm guitar strumming. Your rhythm guitar playing alone could steel the show from the best shredding lead guitarists because the amount of chords you can knock out back to back! I LOVE IT!
"May I suggest" you buy ALL Tommy's records and listen to them often!!! That will improve your playing no end. There is a reason why he is a Certified Guitar Player.
Working on it .. I have most of his early ones, even managed to snag a couple of vinyls 😁 and 2 rare ones ... Doug Parkinsons Southern Star band and The Goldrush "Live at Last" album. Life is good Tommy is wonderful 💜
The diagrams of Guitar Boogie really helped give insight on how Tommy pulls off his bass + melody technique. I mean I've always been able to see how in theory he does it, but this time it made it very clear down to the frets being played.
Your technique and enthusiasm is contagious. Finally something I'm happy about catching during the pandemic up here in South Dakota. I listen to you all day working the lunches at our school and all day. Thanks Tommy
A truly great and most self innovative player I have ever heard. There are so many great players out there who are just 'copy cats', whereas Tommy is a genuine original.
Thank you very much for this lesson Tommy! You covered rhythm playing for country and blues songs. What about the modern pop songs? As a young musician who is starting out, i find myself often in the situation where i need to play a "4 chords" pop songs. Any tips on how to approach that kind of genre? And how to make the arrangements interesting?
I’ve resolved before to make tapping my foot part of my guitar playing to improve my groove, and failed. I want to try again. Playing for 50 years without tapping my foot, it’s a hard habit to develop and integrate into my playing.
Does anyone know the name of the song that Tommy plays at minute 4:42 of this video? I find it very interesting to practice on the guitar. Thank you for your help.
How do/did you keep your left hand fingernails so manicured? My left fingernails, if not kept very clipped down, wind up shredded after a few hours of play.
He has hits in genres you're not privy to it seems and sells out shows. I'll bet you haven't written a hit song, because only critics, not real musicians, say what you say.
Neither has Lionel Messi. He doesn't have to, he's not in the songwriting business. Tommy is the greatest guitar player in the world and the arrangements he creates take a skill few can match. Now go back to listening to your collection of One Direction's hit songs that nobody but teenage girls and women who have the horn for Harry Styles ever cared about.
Dear God, thank you for creating this Man 🙏
Hahaha great post!
That's right, thank you God. We needed him. 🎶

GROOVE IS KING!
Tommy, you're such a nice, likable person besides being the greatest living Acoustic Guitar player in the world.
One of the very, very few persons who I feel 'belongs' to the guitar ! He's so 'one' with the guitar. My inspiration. Truly.
OMG, my guitar hero! Got to see him live twice at the Kentucky Theatre in Lexington, Kentucky. What a great entertainer!
“Those people who use light picks, may I suggest you burn them.” Loll nice one Tommy.
He said "you bin them"

This video is amazing in so many ways. Tommy E. Is the greatest guitar player in the world, in my opinion.
If I ever met Tommy Emmanuel in person, I would break down in tears! Why? I can't write it, it would take too long

He is an amazing talent
Humble and kind to share his gift
His rhythm guitar playing is more complex than the best shredding lead guitarists!
Your technique and enthusiasm is contagious. Finally something I'm happy about catching during the pandemic up here in South Dakota. I listen to you all day working the lunches at our school and all day. Thanks Tommy
I know so many guitarists who are poor rhythm players. This is spot on!!
Tommy, you would have to be one of the greatest musicians to ever pick up a guitar! Thank you God for this man.
Tommy!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart !!!
A truly great and most self innovative player I have ever heard. There are so many great players out there who are just 'copy cats', whereas Tommy is a genuine original.
Wow, so nostalgic! I remember buying that video when I was a young guitar player. Thanks for the inspiration Tommy!
Very critical and useful from the Master himself..Mr Tommy Emmanuel👈👊🏾👊🏾👍
Marty McFly is that you?
Apparently, Tommy's Dad 's instructions to the family band were, "Look at the audience, smile and DONT PICK YER NOSE !!"
Thanks (old and young) Tommy! Learned so much from this!
Love this guy!

I believe he is my favorite acoustic player along with JP Cormier
I started at 45 10 years ago.. I wish I saw him then
Better now than even one minute later. Let the music flow❤
When Tommy “suggests we burn our smaller, lighter picks”, we lowly commoner, wanna be guitar players should listen.
Thank you Sir!
How old was Tommy in this video? So inspirational and already a teacher and coach
Tommy was in his late 30s early 40 here. Dare to be Different and Determination was circa 1992
Gantheng juga P.Emanuel, ketika muda. Suaranya yang tidak berubah: agak bindheng/sengau. Salam dari Jawa, Indonesia, gitaris otodidak.

Hello Tommy sir 👋 can

Listen to Paco de Lucia lol 😁

What is the manufacturer of this acoustic guitar?
De Gruchy guitars
Any idea in which year is this?

He always rubs his nose when he talks, I'm glad he is safe from covid-19

He's letting you, and others that know the sign, know, so that you recognise each other.
Anyone know the song he demos at 9:35? Please help 🥹🥹
So this must have been before the days of thumb picks, eh?

Tommy is playing an old tune called Country Wide
Country Wide is a song composed by Tommy for a Aussie television show
nice haircut ;)
7:45 kage BUNSHIN NO jutsu?
My fingers hurt just watching him flat pick. Who’s the trumpeter?
The trumpeter is James Morrison, another great Aussie muso and a brilliant multi- instrumentalist.
Weird..6 people without ears!? WOW
i just reckognized him cause of his voice... damn old video
Jim Carry, if he was a guitarist.
Your hair is following the 1-2-3-4-
And yet he’s never written a hit song
Tommy CGP has lots of hits.
My preference and judgement rules. Thank you, Tommy, for the beauty of it all.⚘
So many hit songs are crap
