Beautiful tree and great producers. In addition to making lemon bars, adding to water, baking lemon chicken, etc. it's a great acid for marinades.
Daniel, so true. The challenge we have these days is deciding between lime and lemon and we seem to lean more towards limes. Must be a Southwest thing.
Wow that lemon just blew my mind. Just bought my dad a meyer and i hope it flower next year.
Meyer lemons are really hard to beat. They are a little smaller than some of the other varieties, but they have a lot of juice and can be very productive.

Lemon cost about $1 each on the Market, too much for just a fruit so I'm planting lemon trees for my own good.

I have a Meyer lemon tree, which is only two feet tall, it only produced one small lemon and not growing or producing extra branches. It was planted 8 months ago. What can I use to make it grow?
Hey Marie. Congrats on your new lemon tree. Meyer lemon trees can be a bit finicky, so it can really be a number of things. Also, citrus grows very slowly, so you'll need to be patient. However, make sure it's not planted too deep, in full sun, mulched heavy with woody mulch, watered infrequently but deep (during summer we water twice a week with 45 gallons at each watering), fertilize regularly (Feb, May, Sept) with a granulated fertilizer. Can you plan a citrus tree 3-4 feet away from underground power lines? Are the roots Invasive? Mostly planting lemons, orange, lime
That's a really good question and I couldn't say for sure. If they're that close you may want to consider another location just to be safe, but you may also consider planting a dwarfing variety vs a full size citrus tree. These trees are typically grown on root stocks that don't grow as aggressively as a full size tree.

@@SenzuBeaner I think dwarf trees would be the safer route yes. As for Avocado, I wouldn't be able to say. We don't have experience growing them.

Hey Ryan. We've learned the most important thing with citrus trees (or any fruit tree really) is finding the right root stock. Not sure what part of the country you're in, but we use a local nursery (RSI Growers) who has all of the trees grated onto root stocks that perform well in our soil. These same trees that do well here, wouldn't do well in many parts of the country. It would be worth your time finding a local nursery/person who grafts trees to figure out your best option.
Hi, I'm 6 weeks into a rooting process and have 4 cuttings (started with 7). The 4 look healthy. I dug down and found some roots, albeit small 1-2". I live in N. Phoenix. I've been carrying them in the house each night as it was below 60 degrees and put them in shade during the day.
They are in a 9" diameter pot that is 9" tall. The pot is sitting in a shallow glass bowl that I've been filling with water every few days.
Now that its getting to 90 degrees in the day and over 60 and night. My plan is to keep them in the same pot until the roots get bigger. Keep the pot in the shade and leave it out overnight (temps >60 at night). Does that sound good. What would you do? Should I fertilize? I used a root hormone and coconut core when I first planted the cuttings. It seems like I may need to bring them inside once its over 100. Please let me know what you think.
The cuttings were from my 18 yr old tree in my back yard. The tree had no bugs and appeared, to me, to be very healthy.
Wow, what a process you've gone through to get these to this point. I think you have a solid plan. I would be very concerned with any temps near 100 degrees with a tree that young. When outside you'll want to keep it in mottled shade (maybe under a larger tree?) so it gets some sun and really keep an eye on it for stress. As for fertilizer, I would wait for some established growth before you go to far with that. Good potting soil usually has some nutrition in it that should suffice for such a young plant. You'll have to let us know how it goes with these little guys!
@@EdgeofNowhereFarm Thanks so much. I have one sprout that is about 9 inches tall that I started from a seed last year. He's one year old this month. I have him in a very large planter in the sun. He's been there since last November. Do you think I should move him to shade also? He's very healthy looking with light green leaves and no spots or dead sections.
@@knipettepink That's still pretty small, so I would hedge on keeping that one with either mottled shade or late morning shade (by about 11am). This will ensure it gets the sun it needs, but not baked to a crisp once we get into June.
I can’t get my trees to grow ,, I planted 6 and they started to flower then stopped. What could be the causes it’s been almost 2 months
Sorry to hear your trees are being sluggish with their growth. I'm not sure if you're referring to 6 Meyer Lemon Trees or if you have a mix of fruit trees and whether or not you're here in the Phoenix area. If you're here in Phoenix right now most trees are really just in survival mode. They may put on new growth, but for the most part they're dealing with the intense, dry heat. Once you get into fall you'll see a strong flush of growth. Do make sure you're irrigating nice and deep at least twice a week. Young trees need consistent moisture. Also, be sure you have a thick layer of mulch around your trees to keep the soil temps down a bit. Fertilizing shouldn't be done until September when the trees can really use the nutrition to put on new growth.

Hey there Mevi. We are now using aged chicken manure for all of our citrus trees and they grow fantastic for us. The commercial fertilizer we have used in the past, BioFlora Crumbles, is also chicken manure based. The key to citrus is ensuring you have a high nitrogen fertilizer to allow the tree to grow and remain green year round.
Can the Meyer lemon tree stands the winter weather of New York City?
Hey Ahsan, that's a good question. It wouldn't be able to survive your winters outside, so if you're going to try one out you'll want to plant it in a large pot. Choose a dwarfing root stock if you want to grown these in a container and bring it in when you start seeing temps below 45 degrees or so.
I'm in Coastal Connecticut and I have an orange tree that I keep outdoors. During winter it is covered and wrapped with incandescent Christmas tree lights surrounded by tall water containers. So far, so good.
When I was a kid. The rind was actually thinner. I guess the improved lemon now has a thicker rind. That was 40 years ago

Hey SaltySeaTV. We juice and freeze most of them in ice cube trays to have with water, etc. We also do some baking. Tried a lemon brownie the other night and it was pretty good! You can also use lemons when they're green so they can be used for about half the year right off the tree.
I eat em with salt!

Hey Kimberly! This was a semi-dwarf tree that never really took off. We're guessing it may have been mislabeled by the nursery given it's growth habit.

Hey John, the tree against the wall is our Yehuda Loquat tree. Haven't had it produce fruit yet, but it's growing really well.

@@demetriuspowell29 great question! I'm not really sure. I know location and soil conditions are the most important thing with citrus which is why only a few states can grown them on a commercial scale. If you're going to try it out you'll probably either want to keep it potted to bring in during the winter or plant it near a structure with South West exposure. This way it can soak up some sunlight during the winter months.
My meyer doesn't look this good. It is still recovering from shipping stress
