Doug Jernigan is one the very best ever steel guitar players. He is a must to see at a steel guitar show.

C6. Low to high string: C F A C E G A C E D . Some players use top string as a G instead of the D. It was developed as a six string Hawaiian tuning by Jerry Byrd and extended to the ten string tuning for pedal steel by Buddy Emmons.

What are those numbers he talks of : 11, 44 55 etc?

It's the Nashville number system. Instead of using chord letters we use numbers.
Example. Using a C scale here's where you get the numbers.
      C D E F G A B C.
      1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
So with this in mind the band leader wants a particular song in the key C kicked off with a 5511 intro.
Going by the above chart the intro will 2 bars of the 5 chord which will be G and 2 bars of the 1 chord which will be C.
Keep in mind the 1,4,5 will never change no matter the key.
In a standard chord progression utilizing our key of C example. Your 1 chord will be C, 4 chord will be F and 5 chord will be G. Looking at the above example if the particular song in C has an A minor that will be notated as a 6 minor.
      Hope this helps

@@soonerlegendspodcast sorry to waste your time. I do know the Nashville numbering system. I've never heard it referred to as eleven and forty four fifty five. That threw me. Thanks
