What do you think of this type of store. With no main counter to purchase items from. Simple grab what you want, and pay at a self-service check out. Would this work where you live n the world? Would never work in the US because of theft. I love the concept though. Instead of putting all that stuff in vending machines they just keep some shelves and fridges stocked up. I also love the seating area upstairs so you can just chill out and have your food/drink time and then go on with your day. The shop is an awesome fusion of convenience and small cafe vibe.
This is not the concept of cashier-less that you see in the US. Here you depend on the good will of the people of paying with their cards. They could as well leave without paying. What I have seen in the US is that the moment you enter a shop, you have to scan a QR code with your phone or you won't be able to enter and a camera will be following you seeing what you take from shelf and deducting that from the credit you have on your phone. So you can't get away without paying. I don't see any high tech here, just a "I trust you"shop.

These stores also have a counter where products made by children's hands are presented. If a child draws postcards, for example, makes jewelry and brings them to this store, to a special stand. The tag shows the product, the price and the number of the child's bank card. You can pick up the jewelry and give the money to the child. My daughter makes brooches and sells them in this store. People do not steal children's goods, but honestly pay small entrepreneurs. They often overpay for them. Yes, Russian banks have children's plastic cards and a separate account.
I am so impressed with what you show us about Russia. It is so beautiful and clean and tidy. The people there seem very lovely and polite. I would like to visit there someday.
I have seen a lot of american movies where their shops and their suburban family home communities are shown and it looks like they could absolutely have a shop like this. They had all the best stuff and they could afford it all! But then you look at what the american bloggers publish today and it is like they live in some criminal gang driven open market section of 1990s Moscow. How was it even possible to go down from the best place in the world to a stereotypical shithole in such a short amount of time is beyound my understanding.
I have been quite impressed with the concept of providing people with a “microwave” at supermarkets- which Russell has shown us In Moscow! Commenting from London: I don’t think I’ve seen anything like this in the UK … whether it’s the microwaves or this life market concept! But it’s definitely appealing! What is interesting is that this very modern and forward thinking idea is in Ekaterinburg and not Moscow or st Petersburg where you would “naturally” expect innovation! It just goes to show how variable Russian cities are, and how they all try to carve their own identities despite being quite far from Moscow and St P! Thanks for showing us! And bravo 👏🏽 Ekaterinburg

This concept has been around for a long time. Even 20 years ago, when buying food in some regular stores, you could heat it up in a microwave. This increased sales. My city has a population of about 60 thousand. Now microwaves can be found everywhere where ready-made food is sold and there are places to eat. It doesn't depend on the city, it can be in the village. It depends on demand. There is a client - there is a service. (google translate)
I'm not sure if it was only me who noticed it. Lots of cities in RUSSIA are mostly clean. The design of buildings, especially the main landmarks, are spectacular. And the workers are always so excruciatingly slow! But I do understand that theft would probably be a big issue This is no Russia, it’s the wild west😂 the characters you see at rest stops.. oh boy..

In fact, there are a sometimes there are cases of theft in LifeMart and that's why all the stores are equipped with video cameras with facial recognition! So if a person steals something or suddenly forgot to pay, then this person's face is entered into the database. Later if this thief goes into another store in the chain (or into the same one) then the employees begin to monitor their movements and what they do. Sometimes they're added to the database for other reasons, for example, we had a person in the store several times who did not flush after themself 🤣🤣🤣
Russell, I suggest you visit the self-serviced Korean ramyon store "Kono" in Moscow. It's located on Ladozhskaya street adjacent to Baumanskaya metro station (between the Pho U cafe and Marsel shawarma shop). It is a completely self-service store where you pick the instant ramen noodle and toppings, then cook it on the spot, and also have some sides and drinks (just like in South Korea). Although I must say, it's a bit on the pricey side, this meal would cost you around 500 RUB.

Hey Russel, thanks for another video from my home town! The shop does give off some 7- Eleven vibes for sure, but didn't Japanese completely change it to what it now is? Maybe it is the time to change it once again? One thing I noticed is, there's plastic everywhere. Here in Aus most packaging is now paper or cardboard, it has changed A LOT over the last 3-4 years. I am not just talking cardboard food bowls or coffee cups or paper straws but computers and TV packaging. Also, reusable coffee cups like my glass KeepCup that gets me ¢50 discount at my local coffee shop in Melbourne - I haven't bought a disposable cup in years (and saved a few hundreds of them, if you think about it). Hope this helps!
Interestingly, in Soviet times, everyday products almost never had plastic packaging. For example, a seller would simply wrap a piece of sausage or butter in wrapping paper. And milk / sour cream bottles were regularly reused for a second or third time. When the new times of capitalism arrived, the plastic packaging came from the West in huge quantities. Ecological Soviet methods began to be considered backward and anachronistic, inconvenient for customers.
Thank you Russell for making this very interesting video !❤ Very compact Shop, very easy to get what you want ! Particularly love the big selection of ready to eat meals❤

They do actually have one in Moscow, kind of like the Amazon stores. ua-cam.com/video/5NUMBNXx2zE/v-deo.html They also had another company try it, but they closed. It was more of a test at a train station.
As a resident of Yekaterinburg, I am shocked by the comments under your video. I thought that everything was very bad in Russia, until I read the comments. I thought that the self-service cash registers came from the USA, but according to the comments, they would have stolen everything there. Only 1 question remains: why steal all this, because to eat enough, it's 400 rubles, and this is 1 hour of work, which is incredibly small.
I don’t know if it’s going to work here in New Zealand 🇳🇿 Russell. There will be a lot of theft and people scanning cheap items and taking expensive items like they do at Woolies now. I have seen automats that are like this in Amsterdam but they had food in little cubbyholes with a vending machine slot on them to open them up. Still a very cool 😎 concept.
None here that I know in this part of the US. The walls a little dark. Lighter would look much better. 😊 thanks. Very interesting. 😊Looks very nice and clean and well organized.
I like and in favour of this concept. But, unfortunately, in my country something like this will see by some people to look for opportunity to steal the food/drink more easier or even trying to trick the computer.
Dear Russell, like the famous song by Aussie Jamiroquai, with you, it is 'travelling without moving 'from my couch but it is good to go 'vostok' - thx Russell & Zhenya
I know you like to tour through stores - if you ever get to the U.S., make sure to visit a Buccee's. The LifeMart reminded me of it a little bit but any Buccess is a totally unique experience - at least check them out online.
Unmanned shops have been around in Sweden since 2015. Two years ago there were about 130 of them, and the number is increasing. But in the Swedish shops there is no staff whatsoever. Without the kitchen section, though.
@@figgebirma7157 In regular shops it would be illegal in Russia to not have an option to receive cash. Many old people don’t even know how to use bank cards. And people still should have freedom of using cash anyways. But I’m afraid that that whole world will stop using cash sooner or later and will use a biometric id. And then the end of the world will come, because that’s exactly what the Bible says.
They need to spread these types of stores all along the BAM transiberian railway line. Some of the towns between Irkutsk and Khabarovsk you cannot find a coffee shop!
Something similar here in UK with no cashiers- Amazon Fresh, you have to have Amazon app installed, but the choice or quality of food not as near good as in Russia.
Interestingly, many of these shops are open 24 hours a day. I literally went there a couple of times at 4am drunk so I wouldn't have to cook at home, haha
Amazon go is similar to this with no cashier. And lots of grocery stores in the US have self checkout but people complain all the time about them especially at Walmart.

I was thinking the same thing. My local one though, is more like a supermarket version. These stores are more of a fresh food and takeaway style.
Love your program Russell from Tennessee USA.
Thank you so much!!!
Russell even popular with the young ladies.
He's got game.
👍
А я обожаю ваши ролики. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Спасибо. Будет еще много интересного.
@@TravellingwithRussell А будут ещё ролики из Екатеринбурга?
Beautiful ❤
In scandinavia, never seen such a shop.
Thanks. I am very curious if something like this exists in other places.
Nice!
I like and in favour of this concept.
But, unfortunately, in my country something like this will see by some people to look for opportunity to steal the food/drink more easier or even trying to trick the computer.
Жизнь март есть в дубае, и вообще есть полноформатный большой жизнь март, они не особо отличаются от мини, но тем не менее)
Nice
Thanks ))
A shorter video, this is pleasant! Don't worry I like every type and lenght of your content!
Cheers. I did actually film another location like this one, but its a bit longer. This store video came out nicer I think.
@@TravellingwithRussell Ok, if you upload that aswell we will see which one is better!
They need to spread these types of stores all along the BAM transiberian railway line. Some of the towns between Irkutsk and Khabarovsk you cannot find a coffee shop!
With the people, it would be left nothing on the space. Look great, though❤❤❤❤
Totally different here in Russia.
Something similar here in UK with no cashiers- Amazon Fresh, you have to have Amazon app installed, but the choice or quality of food not as near good as in Russia.
American Amazon pumping your money away)) Thats the difference, another difference - NO GMO in Russia (with all politeness)
Interestingly, many of these shops are open 24 hours a day. I literally went there a couple of times at 4am drunk so I wouldn't have to cook at home, haha
ПРИВЕТ ИЗ ТУРЦИИ 😊
Привет тебе))
Amazon go is similar to this with no cashier. And lots of grocery stores in the US have self checkout but people complain all the time about them especially at Walmart.
👍👍
Thanks.
Very interesting, i think russia is slowly becoming like japan with the no cashier convienence stores maybe in the future all convienence stores will have no cashiers at all we also have self serve coffee machines at 7 eleven convienence stores in Australia
Some Russian supermarkets have both a live cashier and a self-service checkout. If there is no queue, I usually choose the live cashier because I like to exchange a few words with her (less often with him).
@@alexandersedov9896 Some supermarkets in my city in australia have both live cashiers and self service checkouts as well, and thats nice how you choose the live cashiers at the supermarkets because you like to exchange a few words with them
In the US we call this high end 7-11,if you want artificial chemical food 7-11 is the way.
Slupieeeeee's all round.
Upstate New York here. Had this at the factory I worked at but that’s it.
Good idea. Self check out.
Not a chance that would work in most American or Canadian cities.
I wonder why ))
Maria has got to be the most popular woman's name in the Christian world.
Possibly.
I live in Montana & I'm sorry to say they wouldn't last long. Mainly because of a subset of the homeless population that would steal.
Hahaha! I’m going to a grocery store later! 😂
This store might be interesting then.
@@TravellingwithRussell I wish Jacksonville Florida had a store like this! This could be perfect for riverside or San Marco.
In California we have self service.
Full self-service like these stores. Where you help your self, pay and leave. Nice.
@@TravellingwithRussell Except the pay part, I suspect the OP hinted 😊
@@TravellingwithRussell He's being sarcastic, sorry. California is the epicenter of petty crime in the U.S. They won't investigate or charge anything under $950 here, per incident.
I’ve seen this in Japanese videos! Nothing like this in Canada!
I am at Irving TX , this kind of shop will survived not even one hour , here are comes homeless ,
No chance of that in Russia.
Looks like american Starbux or norvegian Narvesen convenience store chain. But in narvesen you can also buy some magazine to reed .
It's got a mix of about 3 or 4 different places.
@@TravellingwithRussell but it's popular .
😋
Exactly.
Nice joke about man and 25 girls around him 😁😁😁
He was very lucky, the entire classroom of girls and only him.
@@TravellingwithRussellMost likely, these are first-year students from a medical university or pedagogy, philology... usually there are always a lot of girls on such courses and the guys have a great choice
Please Mr. Russell, I have a question: is VISA or MASTERCARD accepted in Russia today?
The easy answer is. No. Non Russian cards will not work in Russia. Bring cash.
unionPay is accepted, Chinese
how about a show from a working class pub ? i would like to see some Russian barmaids and the inside of a typical pub
Hehehehe. Most of the bartenders are men who love there beer. Sometimes you might see ladies working in them. Most are the customers.
