This is definitely a beautiful new supermarket. In the US we have these nice big markets in and near cities, not in rural areas or small towns. The frozen food department is important because (in general) americans love to stock up on food so we can do less shopping. We often have large fridge/freezers, and many have extra freezers in their pantry as well. Its down to how ppl tend to live. I would love to shop every day or 2 and buy fresh products, but they would end up going bad. We also have cafes here in the big stores too. Not many places are open 24/7 since the pandemic. Stores just havent gone back to the old shopping hours unfortunately.
In Russia, people also buy separate freezers. Usually we store crops from the forest there or grown personally in the dacha. We have frozen food stores, such as Eromolino, where you can have frozen dumplings, cutlets, pancakes with different fillings, etc.
I love the variety of foods available in your Supermarkets, the fish, cheese, meats and fruit and veg. These Supermarkets put the likes of Coles and Woolworths to shame!

Interesting, there’s no more 24 hour stores in my area anymore. If I could film in the store, in which is prohibited, then you would see empty spaces on the shelves, and outrageous prices. Moreover, the stores aren’t clean and bright either. Exactly, what country is being affected by sanctions? Certainly, it’s not Russia. Thanks for the tour.

Russians have been sanctioned , shops are full and most people can't even afford the stuff on the shelves . When the shop is empty and dirty there is lots of money in the tills , that's what we call business .
I have to admit it’s a great bot line, “food is not sanctioned”. There’s no counter-sentence. There’s a descriptive explanation of how Russia produces its own food (so it couldn’t be directly sanctioned); there’s a list of products banned from importing; there’s a list of medical (!) products banned from importing. But there’s no counter sentence. It’s like after imposing 17K sanctions and banning from sports they can still say, “we do not wish harm on the Russian people”.
I'm a real person and you don't know Russian law. There in no EU/US sanctions on food or medicine. There is Russian embargo on certain food products and Russian embargo on EU/US medicine that can be produced in Russia. Even Russell admits that.
It's not a bot line. There are no sanctions on food. Russia produces plenty of it's own food. Great. But don't try to say that the Europeans are trying to starve Russia. That's not true.

There’s no doubt that grocery stores in Russia are nice and well-stocked. A lot of the products available are produced in Russia, so it’s natural that they have a wide selection of goods. At the same time, it’s interesting to see how imported products are still available despite the sanctions that have been imposed. This shows that some countries have a more relaxed approach to the sanctions, but it must be logistically challenging to get these products into the country.

I’m glad you didn’t bump into any of those babushkas during this shop visit. They didn’t look 👀 too happy seeing you and your camera 🎥 there.
It depends on place of this supermarket. If it is in the centre of city or near some big metro station, or some other place where a lot of people, all corners might be opened all night, but with only one worker in each. If this supermarket not in a passage place, there usually have one worker in a services like seafood corner or sausage corner (services where you can buy products by weight or sliced). Services like cafe, pizza and bakery will have pre-packaged products and you might take it away or eat in the supermarket (there are usually some microwave and coffee machines).

The USSR had twice as many citizens as Russia now, most of the republics were supported by the common budget, that is, money and goods were taken from the RSFSR (Russian Republic, there were 15 republics in total) and given to other republics, and the Russians themselves therefore did not receive enough food and consumer goods that were produced on the territory of the Russian Republic, and of course there were ineffective methods of management and labor organization at the end of the life of the USSR. Now, with the separation of independent republics and extra eaters, the situation has become much better. Plus, the USSR sponsored many of the poorest countries in the world in Africa, Cuba, Mongolia. All this was paid for by an ordinary Russian citizen out of his own pocket.

Moreover, the stores aren’t clean and bright either. Exactly, what country is being affected by sanctions? Certainly, it’s not Russia. Thanks for the tour.

I have to admit it’s a great bot line, “food is not sanctioned”. There’s no counter-sentence.

There’s no doubt that grocery stores in Russia are nice and well-stocked. A lot of the products available are produced in Russia, so it’s natural that they have a wide selection of goods. At the same time, it’s interesting to see how imported products are still available despite the sanctions that have been imposed. I wondered how much Bundy rum costs there?!

It's everyone's favorite city it seems.
Very interesting. Can you buy zucchini bread and or ginger bread there. ? Thanks Sir.😊😊
There are no 24 hour super market here in this part of the US.
Walmart is huge here but they close 11p and open 6a. Before covid they were open 24 hours a day. ?.
Sanctions are not supposed to affect food items. Pretty sure that’s been pointed out to you before.
In fact, food is not sanctioned by the EU. Nestlé, Beyer, Ritter Sport etc. are still doing business
@Mark-im4xi You forgot about Mondelez ))
@Anthonythumb Many times before. How about the banking industry, and payment gateways for these stores to make transactions.
@@TravellingwithRussell you mean like visa and Mastercard which are not usable inside Russia? Those Russians who get paid in dollars and euros and have to jump through hoops and send money halfway around the world with 50% commission to get paid. Yeah totally normal situation 👌🏻
I imagine it must be very hard to find "grass-fed" butter or cheese in Russia..? Also, is the food loaded with synthetic chemicals (additives, preservatives, obesogens) as it is here in USA? I'm on a very restricted medical diet and need to know before I come over... Thanks.
A lot of supermarkets have dedicated vegan dairy and health food sections.
Chemical additives for livestock and genetically modified products are banned in Russia, but if you do not trust ordinary stores, there are always specialized shops from individual farmers, such as Oleg Sirota's shop.
@@AllardRT I am the opposite of vegan, LOL! I can't eat most vegetables, so I rarely do, because then the problems start. I am mainly carnivore.
@@morskayazhabka4682 This is wonderful!!! I haven't had a decent meal ever since I moved to USA, because of all the (bad things) they put in foods. Thank you.
@@Zelioni-ts9fd Sorry, friend, the "grass-fed" part made me confused.
Its fairly easy to import some of the food items in this video into the USA, especially the шармэль sweets at 8:09
Wish we had stores like this in Norway.
We used to have that in US cities, but they are all closing because of rampant shoplifting
Are your hospitals as nice as your grocery stores ?
ДА !
Yes
@stewartsmith1947 They, and there free.
Yes😀
Go back there in 6 months time. Talk about Russian wages too. I just see very expensive items on the shelves. If those prices were in an German supermarket, they would be regarded as expensive. Yet wages in Russia are a fifth of what German wages are.
Keep in mind in Russia you have free health care, you have incredibly cheap heating, electricity and gas prices. Along with fuel prices for cars. There is a lot of things people quickly forget are available to the average person here. I also pointed out this is a middle income store. You have a lot of choices in Russia where to shop for groceries.
@@TravellingwithRussell Lets see how free health care, incredibly cheap heating, electricity and gas prices stack up this winter.
Also, $12 for a steak, thats 5% of your salary gone. $5 for a pound of butter. Another 3% gone. You say its a typical supermarket. Go figure. Get out your calculator. Brandy at $36. Jameson at $20. Good luck with affording that if you are on the average wage.
Well thanks Russell. In Brisbane Coco's is open 24hrs but is nothing like that!(you probably know this already though!)
I just listened to Dan Carlin's Ghosts of the Ostfront podcast, and onset of winter in Moscow carries whole other dimension in the my mind now. I mean, I knew the history, but I didn't really get it.
For the purposes of my Shared Visa application interview, what are “Russian values”?
And for the Russian viewers, what do you think, what are you told, that “Western values” are?
Thanks 😊
"Западные ценности" - это полное отсутствие ценностей... .
Извращенцы и наркоманы 😂
Лгбт западные ценности.
Главная ценность Запада - это деньги, они оправдывают всё, в России это далеко не так
@davidwebb4904 I will leave this up to my local audience to answer this for you.
In the case Russel don't know the most of the sanctions in food industry were imposed by russian goverment, not by westerners.
11:10 Beluga vodka to be served with beluga caviar :)
I've tried lots of different ones, but not the Beluga brand before.
Our 24/7 shops comes nothing close in regards of selection and general niceness of the shop itself to this.
😊👍
It looks like this supermarket chain has looked at Whole Foods for some inspiration. Hopefully not the prices.
I think this would make a good comparison to Wholefoods. ))
599 for butter ia that 6 euro?
Hey Russell. The stores are well stocked and there's plenty on sale. But what's the buying power of the average Russian? although prices are stable, do Russians have money in their pockets that's worth much less than it once was, money that they have to stretch further?
It really comes down to your living situation, and what your bills are per week. People earn money, people spend money.
Всё просто - если бы у россиян не было денег, магазины бы банкротились и закрывались (капитализм). Но в России ситуация другая, магазины только открываются. Вывод: у россиян денег становится больше и покупательская способность растёт.
Nice store not like here in Uk where all our products are behind locked cabinets cause thieves here just nick the stuff and our police do nothing to stop it
There are very limited things that are behind glasses cases, if anything.
Are there stores that sell nutraceuticals in Russia? Not just vitamins, but supplements of all kinds, herbs, medicinal teas and other natural medicines? Here in USA, the grocery stores sell usually toxic brands, so I mean a natural medicines store.
Yes, of course, various additives are sold not only in specialty stores and pharmacies, but also on marketplaces.
@@morskayazhabka4682 uh....additives? This is what I am avoiding. I hope something got lost in the translation? I can't take anything a pharamacy sells, that is synthetic. (At least here in USA) I was asking about *natural* supplements.
@Zelioni-ts9fd sorry, I used Google translate
@@Zelioni-ts9fd I talked about natural things that you can use to complete your needs in vitamins
@Zelioni-ts9fd not only vitamins, also you can buy lot of just herbs in pharmacy's
Russell is a video-making machine. Slow down. 😵💫😉
I have a lot of back log to get through, before I need to get out to film new stuff.
How are we Yanks supposed to know what is really happening with the sanctions in Russia?
Watch CNN, they seem to know what there talking about.
I don't know how you have the balls to walk around a supermarket in Russia speaking English with a camera on a stick like you're on some kind of safari. I wouldn't even do it here in England, I'd feel like everyone was watching me and thinking I'm a weirdo or something.
It's totally allowed in Russia to film in public. I have no worries doing this kind of video.
Because England is not democratic, only on paper same as Canada here or US!
@@vrado441 I wasn't talking about the legality of it.
