  • Here is a video of my modified 1979 GL1000. I mis-spoke about the front fender. It is from the earliest Sabre 750's, not a CB900 Custom. Since I made this video, I have found a mint condition 78 gauge pod, so that little detail is now rectified.

    Those subtle changes make this bike look like a 2021 reimagined retro style release. Doing it yourself is never easy but there is nothing more satisfying. So well done! Ride safe.

      Thank you, sir. I always wanted to do a Goldwing retro, but found that too many of them were "over the top" in their modifications. I couldn't have been happier how this turned out.

    Very tasteful and neat job you’ve done there. Like the fact that you’ve not gone too far, making the bike into a cafe racer. It’s still clearly a Gold Wing...

I’ll probably use a few of your ideas when I put my ‘75 GL back on the road. Thanks for a well produced and informative video.

    My first mode of transportation was a 79 GL1000. It was 1989, I was 15 and could not even get a driver's license for it. I drove it to school every day it wasn't raining until I turned 16 and then I trade it for Firebird. It was fully dressed with an Alpine tape deck.

    Love the bike! The seat was worth the price of the bike my friend, it's beautiful. I've got a 79 also I bought in 2011 it had been sitting in a barn since 1998 with 14,000 miles for 300$. Chrome was pitted all over and was flaking off of the valve covers. I cleaned those up and powder coated them black, along with the carbs and intakes, the timing belt cover, and the exhaust and muffler heat shields. I thought about chopping the goofy long front fender but was worried about throwing rocks back into the engine. I also want lower handlebars but maybe not as short as yours. You did a good job on It and it gives me some ideas. Happy riding!

      Bryan Dover,
      Nice work on all the polished aluminum parts. I love when the fork tubes reflect the sun, so much better than the dull gray factory finish. Can you spread the fender and move the brackets to the inside of the fender, kind of hiding the modification? it worked on mine. Not a criticism, I love the bike!

    • @SinnerSince1962
      @SinnerSince1962  5 років тому +1

      At the suggestion of my good friend Hank, I entered it into a local car/bike show. The money went to the ministry anyhow, so I agreed. Granted, there weren't many bikes there, but it won best of show. I was shocked! I wasn't even expecting an honorable mention! I guess the best part is having your hard work validated by other motor-heads. :) I need to thank you for providing me with some of the inspiration. A lot of those watch counts on your videos are mine!

    • @SinnerSince1962
      @SinnerSince1962  5 років тому +1

      @@GlGl-sg1vk I had wanted to do that in the beginning, but found that there was a slight 90 bend (for rigidity) on the mounting tab of the fender, plus the fact the bracket for the brake hose support intruded from behind also made it pretty awkward to make the mount work. I'm not saying it couldn't have been done, I just resigned myself to the fact it would take more fabrication work and time than I wanted to invest at the time. I may go back and re-visit it at a later date once my desire to tinker with it again comes back!

      Joshua, it's the standard fender that I bobbed myself. I used a rotary cut-off wheel to do it, followed by filing it off to make a smooth edge.
