    I worked in a Honda shop when the Wing first came out. It was a sensation. The sales guys used to start them up, balance a nickel on the cam chain cover, and rev them up to 3,000 rpm and the coin would just sit there. Try THAT with a Harley - or any bike from the 70s for that matter!

    I had the exact same bike, bought it new in ‘78 while I was living in Oman. Awesome machine. Mine was in burgundy, slightly darker than this, although that could be down to lighting and no engine bars. Loved riding it, fast and smooth and no chain maintenance! Wish I still had it and often wonder what happened to it.

    Magnificent work! My brother bought one exactly like this one, same colour, brand new and I was privileged to ride it a few times to Tech college when I was an apprentice. I had a '78 during college in the late 90's and a few years after. Best looking model year IMO. It was basically given to me by my uncle who was the original purchaser. Royal blue with gold pin stripes, but I sure do like the maroon and gold. Best experiences motorcycling on that beast. 70's nostalgia and great comfort.

    Nice. I bought a new 1978 Goldwing like this with the same color I added a color matched Windjammer fairing. The maroon seemed darker than this but hey that was 48 years ago. What an awesome ride. I rode chain drive for years and It took a little to get used to the drive shaft in corners. They said to accelerate through the corners and that will keep it from trying to fishtail.

    Great job! Reminds me of taking my first 78' Wing completely apart, engine too. Still can't believe I did that, repainted the frame with "Plastic Coat", by Duplo I think. Got it back on the road, but that was decades ago. Still have that one, and after 262,000 miles, I replaced it with another 78'. Still have the second one too. Wouldn't mind of getting rid of them, they're taking up space.

    Absolutely fantastic job. Very well done. Let me know if you ever wish to part with her. Just one more detail to finish the job.....the left hand cylinder head Honda badge. ;)

      Well spotted. There were a few bits I was waiting for before finishing the final video. The front indicators, rear grab rail and the badges.

      Glad someone else mentioned that too. Such a beautiful restoration that the missing logo plate stood out like a huge zit on a supermodel. 😂

    Very nice.....did you rebuild engine also?

    • @MarkReynoldsRestorations
      @MarkReynoldsRestorations  3 роки тому +2

      The engine had good compression and oil pressure so for now it was just a good service and get some miles on it. If there are any issues in the future then it might be a rebuild.

    What an excellent restoration, top quality work all round. Did you paint the wheels or did you powder coat them?

    • @MarkReynoldsRestorations
      @MarkReynoldsRestorations  2 роки тому +1

      That was the one thing i wasn't really happy with. Originally the wheels would have been polished and then lacquered. Unfortunately they were to badly corroded to polish so i had them powdercoated.

      @@MarkReynoldsRestorations They look great on the bike, those old Comstar wheels are just not designed to be taken apart for repair, so powder coating is a good option.👍

    Fantastic restoration. I have a '78 GL1000 that is identical (pre-restoration) to yours. How long did the restoration take? How much did you invest?
    Did you just repaint/polish the engine (no rebuild)? How about the final drive? Was the frame powder-coated? Did you get the gauges serviced?
    Thanks!

      @MarkReynoldsRestorations  22 дні тому

      @johnclifford1911 it took just under 12 months from start to finish. 9 months waiting to get all the chrome work back. I put over 300 hours into it, coming in about 3.5k spent.

    I always road my 57 HD flh last rigid. My buddies wanted to ride to Sturgis.
    I found an old gold wing Aspencade. I road out and back no problems. Sold it for twice as much as I paid 10years later.
