What I see in Isaiah 53 is explaining how Jesus became our Goat of Departure and Sin offering.this wasn't in your debate at all.. Prove to me through Jesus dying on the cross became goat of departure and sin offering at the same time. How he fulfilled the law.

@@iyaskelu7173 sir, terms such as NASA used to explain the Goat of departure in Leviticus 16 can't be accepted to explaining sin offering Jesus Christ our Lord did on the cross.
Jesus became our Goat of departure and went to the desert carrying our transgression the desert when baptised by John.
That's why he could forgive sins before going to the cross.
The part of atonement His death fulfilled according to Leviticus has little or nothing to do with him taking care of our transgressions

It is so funny that personal pronoun can be used to denote country. Can a country, Israel be a man of sorrow? Isa 53:6 " ....the Lord *has laid on him the iniquity of us ALL* ". Isa 53:8 For He was cut off from a land of living..."" Israel(a country) cannot be cut off from *a land* . It doesn't make sense.

Rabbis are depressed cause they don't have the sacrifice of atonement from sin. To sacrifice a lamb was an act of repentance not a "sorry for that" speech. Rabbis can not erase the Torah fact that sacrifice is needed, even God says that obedience is more important than sacrifice, but still, sacrifice is a basic tool for the finalization of forgiveness.

The "blindness" that Paul mentions is still very much present today as I have personally experienced a total rejection by Jewish people of any evidence whatsoever that points to Jesus as the Messiah. As Jesus Himself said, ‘If they won’t listen to Moses and the prophets, they won’t be persuaded even if Someone rises from the dead.’” [Luke 16:31]

    • @blueglassdave
      @blueglassdave Місяць тому

@@collectiveconsciousness5314 I'm glad you brought that up. Preachers and evangelists frequently go on, and on assuring anyone who'll listen, that the "prophesy" in Daniel 9 is obvious, 100%, rock solid proof that Jesus was the Messiah, as Christianity defines him. They never mention all the serious biblical scholars who make good cases for all, or parts of Daniel being written much later than the Babylonian exile in which it's placed and so the interpretation of the statue with feet of clay describing the following empires and the "abomination in the temple" being the actions of Antiochus IV Epiphanes and so on were not prophesies but simply an account of history placed in the mouth of an earlier historical figure, which was not an uncommon practice. This is far from far from the only explanation of Daniel 9, even among Christians, however, you will almost never hear about this from those who insist that Daniel 9 is unquestionable proof of Jesus being the Messiah either because they don't know it themselves, not being scholars, or they do know it and don't accept it or want to cast any doubt on their message.
Now, the primary, and frankly only, argument against this is "How dare you deny that this is prophesy! We've always said so!", and here, they're covering up reality once again. The New Testament contains about 300 passages taken from the Jewish Scriptures by NT authors and used as proof texts for Jesus, yet not a single one of these authors uses this supposedly rock solid "proof" text to support their belief that Jesus was the Messiah. They were grabbing texts from throughout the entire Tanach (the Jewish scriptures) yet they all ignored this "knock out" proof from Daniel? Daniel was well known in the first century and the goal of every NT author was to convey their beliefs to their audiences, yet not one mentioned chapter 9. Clearly, they didn't think it applied to Jesus. In fact, the first interpretation of the various "7's" as applying to Jesus doesn't happen until the early third century. If you will look up, "From Daniel to Revelation: How did the early Church Fathers interpret Daniel 9", it has a good layout of many highly influential early fathers and their various interpretations of Daniel 9.
These were all Christians. Jews had, and have, their own perfectly valid interpretations. Rabbi Toviah Singer is, increasingly, the Rabbi Christians love to hate but regardless of what anyone thinks of him, I'd suggest listening to his interpretation of Daniel 9 and asking yourself if you can explain why he's wrong.
I certainly don't blame you for accepting the word of so many confident Christian sounding speakers and authors but, unfortunately, as throughout life in general, a good salesman, sincere or not, can make us believe every word they say, whether they're right or not, and with Daniel 9, they are not the only game in town.

@blueglassdave The NT prophesied that in the last days, there would be a great falling away from the truth. It also prophesied that the whole world would turn against Israel and despise Israel. We are starting to see both happen. That is enough evidence to me that the NT is true.

The Jews are right on this...The text in Isiah 53 DOES NOT MENTION JESUS NAME, DOES NOT MENTION THE MESSIAH, and besides Isiah was concerned with what was going on in his time...Don't you all think the Jews know their own Torah...This is just like most of all the other prophecies...they are too vague, Christians wish them to be true, because they want to believe... And nothing wrong with that but that does not make it true... There are so many problems with the whole Bible that once you research the bible with the HISTORICAL SCHOLARS you will find so much of it is forced to make the old testament predict the new testament. We all know Jesus cannot be wrong...yet he did not return in the lifetime of the apostles like he said he would...THAT SHOULD BE ENOUGH...LAST CHAPTER OF MARK WAS ADDED LATER....it goes on and on...

Rabbi was arguing that Jews dont need a man to die for their sins because it alludes that men no longer having to live a life of morality. The Holy Bible doesnt teach that, it says you still need to repent and live a life of glory and morakity, jesus dying does not absolve you of all your wrongdoings. Thats a silly assumption.

his argument is that Christians misinterpret Isaiah 53. He uses unnecessarily theatrical language but he finally gets there. I'm not overly impressed with Brown's arguments regarding Isaiah 53. At best, it's a draw. Bear in mind that this video is not my first introduction to the discrepancies between the Jewish and Christian interpretations of Isaiah 53 so my reluctance to accept the Christian message is not based on the contents of this video.
It's a very poor debate altogether. Brown sounds like he's listing good points but to me it seems more like gish galloping.

The Rabbi is wrong. Isaiah 53 has not always been interpreted by the Jews as referring to the nation of Israel and in fact the interpretation of referring to the nation of Israel is rather recent. To cite but a few examples:
Rabbi Moses Alschech (1508-1600) says (referring to Isaiah chapter 53):
“Our Rabbis with one voice accept and affirm the opinion that the prophet is speaking of the Messiah, and we shall ourselves also adhere to the same view.”
Rabbi Yafeth Ben Ali ( second half of the 10th Century):
“As for myself, I am inclined to regard it as alluding to the Messiah.”
    Abraham Farissol ( 1451- 1526) says:
“In this chapter there seem to be considerable resemblances and allusions to the work of the Christian Messiah and to the events which are asserted to have happened to Him, so that no other prophecy is to be found the gist and subject of which can be so immediately applied to Him.”
    Gersonides (1288-1344) on Deut. 18:18:
“In fact Messiah is such a prophet, as it is stated in the Midrasch on the verse,’Behold, my servant shall prosper…’ (Isa. 52:13).”
Rabbi Simeon Ben Jochai (2.Century) , Zohar,, part II, page 212a and III, page 218a, Amsterdam Ed.):
“There is in the garden of Eden a palace called : ‘The palace of the sons of sickness, this palace the Messiah enters, and summons every sickness, every pain, and every chastisement of Israel: they all come and rest upon Him. And were it not that He had thus lightened them off Israel, and taken them upon Himself, there had been no man able to bear Israels chastisement for the transgression of the law; this is that which is written, ‘Surely our sicknesses he has carried’ Isa.53,4).- As they tell Him (the Messiah) of the misery of Israel in their captivity, and of those wicked ones among them who are not attentive to know their Lord, He lifts up His voice and weeps for their wickedness; and so it is written,’He was wounded for our transgressions’ (Isa.53,5).

When I look up Don Yitzchak Abarbenal he didn't live until the years 1437-1508. When I look up Talmud Berachoth I do get the years 5a c.450 - c.550 CE which are a little earlier but, again, I didn't say there were absolutely no sources calling the Suffering Servant Israel. What I said is there were plenty of sources before fairly recently calling the Suffering Servant a person rather than the nation of Israel. When I look up Midrash Rabba I find that it was created over 8 centuries being first published in the 1600s; maybe I'm wrong on this one but if I am please point out where because I don't see otherwise when I look it up. When I look up Targum Jonathan it was written in the 4th century A.D. However, there is also this intro to Isa. 52:13 in Targum Jonathan which says ”Behold, my servant the Messiah shall prosper; he shall be high and increase and be exceedingly strong…“. If you look above at my previous citations I also gave you one from the Rabbi Simeon Ben Jochai Zohar,, part II, page 212a and III, page 218a, Amsterdam Ed. which dates from the 2nd century A.D.

Would you mind telling me which of your sources are from before the Medieval period because when I look them up none of them appear to be from before that time period. Rabbi Simeon Ben Jochai lived in the 2nd century A.D. and Rabbi Jose the Galilean lived in the 1rst and 2nd centuries A.D.
I have no idea who is Walter Brueggemann Ph.D but I'm sure I could find just as many people who disagree with him. There are certainly plenty of Jewish writers proceeding him in the previous centuries who would disagree with him.
There is further evidence ancient Jews believed Isaiah 53 to prophesize the Messiah in Micah 5:2:
But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
Too little to be among the clans of Judah,
From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel.
His goings forth are from long ago,
From the days of eternity. Micah 5:2
A person who would be born in Bethlehem is mentioned in this passage.
The Jewish Study Bible says of Micah 5:2:
"Traditional Jewish interpretations of this verse tends to focus on comparisons between the birth pangs of a woman and the hardship of Israel prior to the coming of the Messiah. See the following text: “Rab said: The son of David will not come until the [Roman] power enfolds Israel for nine months, as it is written, Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel. ‘Ulla said: Let him [The Messiah) come, but let me not see him. Rabbah said likewise: Let him come, but let me not see him … Abaye enquired of Rabbah: ‘What is your reason [for not wishing to see him)? Shall we say, because of the birth pangs [preceding the advent] of the Messiah?’ But it has been taught, R. Eleazar’s disciples asked him: ‘What must a man do to be spared the pangs of the Messiah?’ [He answered,] ‘Let him engage in study and benevolence; and you Master do both.’ ” (b. Smr/1. 98b [Soncino ET]).[1]"
It can be seen from here that the Messiah would come sometime after the Roman Empire had become powerful and occupied Israel for more than 9 months. This view from the Jewish Study Bible is Isaiah 53 refers to the Messiah and not to the nation of Israel.
There is also this from Josephus who lived was born in 37 A.D.:
“That then should their city be taken, as well as their holy house, when once their temple should become foursquare.” But now, what did most elevate them in undertaking this war, was an ambiguous oracle that was also found in their sacred writings, how, “about that time, one from their country should become governor of the habitable earth.” The Jews took this prediction to belong to themselves in particular and many of the wise men were thereby deceived in their determination. Now, this oracle certainly denoted the government of Vespasian, who was appointed emperor in Judea. However, it is not possible for men to avoid fate, although they see it beforehand. But these men interpreted some of these signals according to their own pleasure; and some of them they utterly despised, until their madness was demonstrated, both by the taking of their city, and their own destruction. (Book 2, chapter 6, and paragraph 4)
In this passage the Jews are expecting someone to come in the 1rst century to deliver them from the Romans (about that time, one from their country should become governor of the habitable earth.) which is a Messiah who would come and rule over the whole World.

Upon further research it does appear that there were at least three people before Jesus who claimed to be the Messiah according to Jewish historian Josephus. They were 1. Judas, son of the bandit chief Ezekias, whom Herod the Great had executed 2. Simon of Perea, a slave of king Herod who was the leader of a rebellion that burned down the palace in Jericho who was eventually executed 3. Athronges in Judea who leading his armed supporters and brothers was recognized by them as being a king and led them against Herod Archelaus and the Romans. It is apparent from this writing that Jews were already expecting a Messiah to deliver them from the Romans before Jesus was crucified. Both sides had relevant points, and the entirety of the interpretation Isaiah 53 has yet to be revealed, because there are parts of the Old Testament (the prophets) that have yet to be fulfilled.
To make a blanket statement in assigning a single character in history to the servant in Isaiah 53 does not hold water, gaps will remain on both sides of the argument, whether you believe the servant to be Jesus Christ or Israel as a nation.
There remains a time in history when the Jewish people will again be exalted before all the nations, as Jesus Himself said, that Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles "until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled".
Even Paul writes that blindness in part has happened to Israel "until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in".
Jesus did not come to re-emphasise the separation between Jew and Gentile, but to remove the enmity between the two.
The goal should be to establish a connection between both sides of the argument rather than to see both as being mutually exclusive, only then will there be total reconciliation, as Paul writes in Romans 11, that "all Israel shall be saved", and both Christians and Jews continue to look towards such a time.
Writing this as a Christian and a believer in Jesus Christ.

He doesn't really understand Christian teachings or the concepts in them. The biggest irony of the whole debate is when he said that Jesus didn't atone for Israel because 40 years later they were destroyed. Yes! if you reject and murder God's only begotten son and dismiss his holy sacrifice, thereby rejecting his atonement, God will turn his face away from you!! You opted out of the atonement! That's why you were scattered to the nations!!! If Israel would have recognized their Messiah and come together in his teachings, that wouldn't have happened!! Am I crazy here? I am Jewish. From an early age I learned what the Christians had done to the Jews during the Crusades.
Crusade is a happy, fun word for Christians, used casually by Christians today but for Jews it evokes death, torture, and rape.
When the Christians were marching to the Holy Land to liberate it from the Muslims, they realized non-believing Christ killers lived in their midst and began attacking them. The Jews were surprised. It was like a Holocaust.
From Wikipedia -History of the Jews and the Crusades:
"Prior to the First Crusade, there are multiple accounts of cooperation between Christians and Jews. Not only was there economic collaboration, with Jews being involved in several industries such as trade, minting, and financial advising, but Jews and Christians were also social with one another, even attending each other's weddings and funerals."
"Ivan G. Marcus in his article The Culture of the Early Ashkenaz argues that the Jews pulled away from the Christian community physically, mentally, and spiritually due to the sheer ferocity and shocking nature of the crusades. All of these and more provide differing opinions on the results of the crusades, but all agree that the crusades caused a separation between the two religions."

Memorialization of deceased relatives and of Jewish martyrs has figured in the liturgical observances of Yom Kippur since the massacre of approximately 8,000 Rhineland Jews at the time of the First Crusade (1096). Indeed, many of the Jewish mourning customs that have continued down to our own day originated in that time and place in response to the emotional challenges faced by the survivors.1 An extensive Jewish memorial literature of chronicles and poetry (particularly liturgical poetry, piyyutim) was created in the wake of those sad events.2
One of those liturgical poems is Eileh Ezkerah (“These do I recall”), which recounts the legend of the Ten Martyrs....

The Jewish community was prosperous, well established and seemingly secure. However, the fury of the Crusaders fell upon that community, with hundreds being slaughtered and Jewish property being burned and looted. The Crusaders dragged their Jewish victims to the baptismal fount demanding their conversion to Christianity. Some Jews succumbed, but most of the Jews of those communities accepted death, even killing their own families rather than accepting any form of conversion. It was a dark time in Jewish history and remains as deep and dark a page in the annals of the Christian Church.

To this day, one of the most important and humbling prayers on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur is Untanneh Tokef said to be written by Amnon of Mainz.
The legend about its author may not be factual in all its details but I remember the first time I heard the Rabbi tell it. This chilling legend evokes the collective memory of what the Christians did to us during the Crusades and how we remained true to God.
      From Wikipedia: Amnon of Mainz
Amnon of Mainz or Amnon of Mayence is the subject of a medieval legend that became very popular.
It tells of Rabbi Amnon, of Mainz (Mayence), Germany, in the 11th century, whom the Archbishop of Mainz, at various times, tried to convert to Christianity. On one occasion Amnon evasively asked to be given three days' time for consideration, but when he left the Archbishop's palace he immediately regretted even appearing to waver in his Jewish faith. When he failed to appear on the appointed day, the archbishop had him brought guarded into his presence. Amnon, rebuked for his failure to keep his promise, pleaded guilty, and said that his tongue should be amputated, because it had expressed a doubt as to the truth of Judaism. The archbishop, however, pronounced the sentence that Amnon's feet, which had refused to come, and his hands, be cut off. This was accordingly done.
Amnon gave orders that he be carried into the synagogue, where Rosh Hashanah was being observed. The reader was about to begin the Kedushah, when he was asked by Amnon to wait. The latter then recited the prayer known as "Unetanneh Tokef," ("Let us tell how overwhelming [is the holiness of this day]") which is a description of the Day of Judgment. No sooner had he finished the prayer than he died.

i don't know about others, but i find it quite curious, if not enlightening, that of the 3 Abrahamic religions (although i only consider Islam to be "Abrahamic" in name only), only Christians have clear, consistent, logical, harmonized explanations for the interpretation of Scriptures-from Beginning to End. when Christians debate Jews and/or Muslims, Jews and/or Muslims consistently play the role of "spoiler" or "debunker" while Christians simply provide their hypotheses of the Text. why aren't Christians ever asked to explain why their particular Jewish/Islamic explanations of the Bible are wrong? however, that's not to say it _never_ happens, but when it does, it's typically of a single verse that doesn't go any further in a complete story. shouldn't this fact count for something more? personally, i believe it does.

    Isaiah 53.
    Read Isaiah 41:8-9, 43:10, 44:1, 44:8, 44:21, 45:4.
All of the above passages say the nation of Israel is the servant. All of these passages lead up to 53. If just going by logic....53 must also agree that the servant is Israel. Otherwise, 53 must be taken out of context to be about someone else. Dr. Brown states that from 48 onward, the text is speaking of a single person as a servant. 49:3 is clearly talking about Isaiah himself....."and he said to me" the writer. Isaiah was a member of Israel and is therefore a servant of Hashem just as much as any Torah observant Jew.
43:10 clearly demonstrates the Servant is both singular and Plural. Witnesses and my servant. G-D frequently refers to Israel with both see Jeremiah 30:10 where the nation of Israel is also referred to as a "Servant" in singular form. In Exodus 4:22 they are referred to as G-D's "Firstborn son"....singular. Hosea 11:1 also does this. This idea is common-place all over the Old Testament.
Isaiah 52:15: So shall he cast down many nations; kings shall shut their mouths because of him, for, what had not been told them they saw, and [at] what they had not heard they gazed.
What nation today hasn't heard of Jesus?? This speaks of nations of the world in complete shock because they discover something they did not know nor did they ever consider it.
Isaiah 53:1: Who would have believed our report, and to whom was the arm of the L-rd revealed?
This is clearly the shocked nations speaking. In fact verses 1 through 8 of 53 are the kings of nations speaking. With this said, they have erroneous belief's that are also displayed in verses 1-8.
Exodus 32:30-33, Ezekiel 18, Deuteronomy 24:16 make clear that one man cannot atone for the sins of someone else. The person that sins, they must obtain atonement themselves and another man cannot provide it in any way.
    Verses 9 through 12 is HaShem/G-D speaking.
Verse 5 reads: But he was pained because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities; the chastisement of our welfare was upon him, and with his wound we were healed.
In mistranslations the text says "But he was pained FOR our transgressions". This is not what the text says in the Hebrew original. It says "Pained BECAUSE of/From our transgressions".
Verse 8 is highly mistranslated. In Christian texts it says:
"By oppression and judgment he was taken away.
Yet who of his generation protested?
    For he was cut off from the land of the living;
for the transgression of my people he was punished.
    Hebrew original says:
    Correct Translation:
From imprisonment and from judgment he is taken, and his generation who shall tell? For he was cut off from the land of the living; because of the transgression of my people, a plague befell them.
Compare the two translations. The last word in the Hebrew is לָֽמוֹ which is pronounced "Lamoe". It is plural. The Christian text translats this word as "He" as in "For the Transgression of my people HE was punished". They translated a plural word in singular form. It should read "Because of the transgression of my people, a plague befell THEM".
This clearly demonstrates the servant is many people AFTER Chapter 49.
    Verse 10 Christian translation:
Yet it was the L-rd’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer,
and though the L-rd makes his life an offering for sin,
he will see his offspring and prolong his days,
and the will of the L-rd will prosper in his hand.
    Verse 10 Jewish translation:
And the L-rd wished to crush him, He made him ill; if his soul admits guilt, he shall see children, he shall prolong his days, and G-d's purpose shall prosper in his hand.
    The Hebrew says:
This says "if his soul admits guilt" The Hebrew word here is pronounced Asham which means guilt. The Christian version replaces this word with Sin. Guilt and sin are two completely different concepts and Hebrew words. This servant is a SINNER!
If this servant is a sin offering it means death. The Hebrew word used here for Children is "Zerah" or "זֶ֖רַע". This word can only mean physical flesh and blood descendants in biblical hebrew. It cannot mean spritual children which would be "Bnay". How can a dead person produce physical children? They cannot and is not possible. It also states that this Servant will "Prolong his days". You cannot prolong your days if you are a sin offering. You can prolong your days if you admit guilt as a sinner.
I will lastly point out that verse 11 states that others will be saved by the servants KNOWLEDGE! Has nothing to do with a sin offering of any kind. It's KNOWLEDGE.....THE KNOWLEDGE I JUST TYPED HERE! Simply admit guilt, ask for forgiveness, repent of bad actions that caused you to have to admit guilt. Read Zephaniah 3:13 which uses the same language as Isaiah 53 and clearly mentions Israel.
    Isaiah 55:7 states:
The wicked shall give up his way, and the man of iniquity his thoughts, and he shall return to the L-rd, Who shall have mercy upon him, and to our G-d, for He will FREELY PARDON.
iSAIAH 55:7 makes it quite clear no sin sacrifice is required at all!!! No acknowledgement of someone dying for your sins. Simply give up the inquity, admit guilt, follow G-D's Torah and that's all you have to do! You will be immediately forgiven. Give to Charity is a great way to show HaShem/G-D that you are sincere.....Read Daniel 4:27 which is the exact advice Daniel gives to Nebuchadnezzar, a non Jew.
This text is grossly misued and mistranslated in Christian texts and is quite clearly demonstrated. You should ask yourself this: Why do none of the authors of the New testament NOT use Isaiah 53 as a proof text? Because they clearly knew something you do not know but NOW if you read this far...you do!
    Shalom!

It is known that even a lamb can be sacrificed as a substitute for people's sins. The Book of Isaiah, which is also a Jewish book, clearly mentions that this soul is sacrificed for a sin. If this verse is about Jewish people, it will contradict your argument, becsuse why would they be sacrificed for others' sins instead of their own? Additionally, who Isaiah is referring to as "we" and "our" when he mentions grief and healing. Clearly he is also a Jew n his mentioning his people.

A Gentile Looks at Isaiah 53.
From a Gentiles perspective, Isaiah 53 really looks fulfilled in Jesus Christ. 53 is not about the nations acknowledging a misunderstanding about Israel...it better fits the Isaiah Servant narrative, of God's promise of worldwide salvation to the Gentiles. Chap 42 starts with the Servant's great success in bringing salvation to the Gentiles. 49 talks about the Servant bringing salvation to the Gentiles,, and both calls Him Israel, and distinguishes Him from the nation of Israel in the same way a leader of people both represents the people and is other than them. 52 ends with the Gentiles being surprised at this Servants suffering, and 53 explains the purpose of His suffering being an almah, a guilt offering that atones for our sins, and brings forgiveness and righteousness to us. 55 identifies the One Who brings this salvation to the Gentiles as Messiah, and tells all mankind, Gentiles and Jews to repent and seek the Lord, and we will be forgiven.
If I didn't know one word of the New Testament, I would recognize this theme as being obviously fulfilled in history, the worldwide rise of Christianity, started by the crucifixion of Jesus Christ for our sins, His resurrection; and the viral expansion of the Church.

The problem with the Orthodox Jewish interpretation of Isaiah 53 being "Israel",
instead of the Messiah, is In most of the verses, there are 2 different subjects. One subject is represented by the Pro-nouns "He" & "Him", while the other subject is represented by the Pro-nouns "We" & "Our". And these 2 subjects cannot be the SAME.
Now we know that the Pro-nouns "We" & "Our", are clearly speaking of the people of "Israel".
But the Jews believe that the Pro-nouns "He" & "Him", are ALSO speaking of "Israel".
And that interpretation does not work because that makes BOTH SUBJECTS the SAME,
and it does not make any sense. Here is an example....
    **************************
3 "HE" (Israel) is despised and rejected of men; a "MAN" of sorrows,
and acquainted with grief and "WE" (Israel) hid as it were "OUR" (Israel's) faces from
"HIM" (Israel); "HE" (Israel) was despised, and "WE" (Israel) esteemed "HIM" (Israel) not.
4 Surely "HE" (Israel) hath borne "OUR" (Israel's) griefs, and carried "OUR" (Israel's) sorrows:
yet "WE" (Israel) did esteem "HIM" (Israel) stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But "HE" (Israel) was wounded BY "OUR" (Israel's) transgressions,
"HE" (Israel) was bruised BY "OUR" (Israel's) iniquities:
    the chastisement of "OUR" (Israel's) peace was upon "HIM" (Israel);
and with "HIS" (Israel's) stripes "WE" (Israel) are healed.
6 All "WE" (Israel) like sheep have gone astray; "WE" (Israel) have turned every one
to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on "HIM" (Israel) the iniquity of "US" (Israel) all.
    ***************************
So when you make BOTH ("He" & "Him") & ("We" & Our") the SAME SUBJECT, meaning "Israel",
it does not make sense and it does not work.
Because "He" & "Him" is SINGULAR, and "We" & "Our" is PLURAL, so they cannot be the same.
Isaiah 53 is talking about Jesus the Messiah, the suffering savior for Israel & the Gentiles.

Please translate verse 3 for me below...
Write the whole verse out for me and insert into the pronouns, "We", "He", "Our" & "Him", and tell me who each "pronoun" is talking about.

@@falsemessiah751 Another honest question that I have concerning Isaiah 53, and the interpretation that "we" is speaking of the Gentile nations, is why would God speak through Isaiah, who is a Jewish Prophet to the nation of Israel, but yet Isaiah is speaking as a "Gentile" in the "first person" ?
The Gentiles were not even God's people at that time.
So when you add that together with "Israel" bearing the sins and iniquities of the Gentile nations, it just doesn't work, because several times in that chapter, it speaks of someone being "Sinless", and that cannot be speaking of "Israel" or any other "Nation".

@@falsemessiah751 I think we can agree that we don't even have to address the "so-called" mistranslations of the "Christian" bible, as I am reading these verses from your perspective and interpretation.

(verse 6c) (God put MY sin on Israel ?, not at all.)
"when thou shalt make his soul (Israel) an offering for sin" (Verse 10b)
(Israel is the "offering" for MY or Gentiles sins? not at all.)
"by his (Israels) knowledge shall my righteous servant (Israel) justify many; for he shall bear their (Gentiles) iniquities." (verse 11b)
(Israel bore MY or the Gentiles iniquities? Not at all.)
"and he (Israel) bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors." (verse 12d) (Israel bore MY or the Gentiles sin ? Not at all.)
      ********************************************************************
"because he (Israel) had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth." (Verse 9b)
(Israel did NO VIOLENCE with NO DECEIT in their mouth?) Your joking right?
      It just doesn't work.
As far as the "Sinless" verses go,
"had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth" (v. 9)
(That can't be speaking of Israel )
The other 5 verses "imply" sinless status as God is putting the
"sins & iniquities" of someone else on another person or "nation".
Meaning the "sins" were not their "own", meaning "sinless".
Just like "a lamb without blemish" was required for a sacrifice.
Sorry, "Israel" just doesn't fit that description, it just does not work.
      Take Care.

We have an INCREDIBLE amount of literature from the Second Temple Jewish period. A ton of it. So we're aware of what the Messianic expectations were and the passages they used to look forward to the Messiah. We also have a few examples of "Messiahs" from that period that many Jews followed, even to their deaths... those movements were wiped out quickly. But Jesus? His testimony still survives today and is widespread, all across the world.
There's a lot of revisionist history in the Jewish literature since Jesus' ministry, particularly about those passages that Christians use to point to Jesus' foreshadowing in the Hebrew Bible (the same passages Jews used to use to point to the coming Messiah). There's a reason so many Jews turned to Jesus after hearing what he did and examining the Scriptures, it's because they saw and understood his fulfillment of the promises that the prophets gave us. The problem is now, after 2000 years, most serious Jews rely on the Talmud more than they rely on the Scriptures. I'm sure many Jews will argue against that fact, but they know it is true.
I would challenge any Jew who is seriously versed in the Scriptures to go and read the New Testament. If you are so sure in your faith and the correctness of your position, go read. It shouldn't threaten your faith if you are so correct. But you might find that the New Testament is written by Jews, sometimes for Jews in particular, and contain all the answers about Jesus that you need to know. Then you can make your decision.
