I've been a fan of the old Marlin Camp Carbine since I was a kid. Now Henry has a better version with some modern touches in their new Henry Homesteader 9mm carbine. The Henry Homesteader is a semi-auto blowback 9mm carbine with a threaded barrel and has the ability to accept Glock mags.
#henry #homesteader #carbine
It's basically a Winchester 1907 in 9mm, down to the weight beneath the handguard.
Indeed
I wish they would bring back the 351wsl. The 1907 is such a fun handy little rifle.
I would like it, if they made these homesteaders in 350legend or something with a little more umph
@@alienzim9871you read my mind , yes a 350 legend homesteader
Amen on the Winchester self-loaders...ALL of them, from 1905 to 1910. T.C. Johnson is turning over in his grave. So is John Pederson. Henry used the same disassembly system (buttstock sliding off the receiver, that was used in the Remington model 14). That said, I love the upgrades, making disassembly and cleaning easier and more practical. The only problem is the caliber. It does need to be more powerful. While the 9mm may be OK as a pistol cartridge, it's wimpy as a rifle cartridge. That said, that with this type of action, more powerful also means more weight. In the case of the 400 or 350 Legend, a LOT more weight in the counterweight under the forearm, enough to probably make the gun impractical to carry. Someone once did the math on how heavy the counterweight would have to be to work with a 30-06, and it turned out to be 27lbs. As a compromise, I would think a good choice might be at least 40S&W or maybe 10mm.
@tthams73I love the 880 power line, great bb gun for its price. I'm definitely looking at getting a homesteader in the future.
I remember drooling over the Marlin Camp Carbine in the Service Merchandise catalog when I was a kid. But I never got one when I was old enough either.
Same, the pages were tattered from repeatedly looking at the firearms pages.
Same here! Service merchandise was cool in the day.
I have the Camp Carbine in 9mm, but once my father saw it, it ended up at his house. He loves it! At 81, he can still handle it.
Still got mine.
Pretty neat PCC, basically a 9mm 10/22-ish and looks like a lot of fun to shoot !
That's what I thought (Oh man, that's one of them Ruger's! Cool.). L/R
Winchester 1907
versatile 9mm carbine, and the Henry Homesteader seems like an excellent option. I really appreciate the threaded barrel and the ability to use Glock magazines, which are readily available and affordable. It's also great to see some modern touches added to a classic design. The Marlin Camp Carbine was a favorite of mine as well, and I'm excited to try out the Henry Homesteader. Thanks for the review and the detailed breakdown of its features!
With the stock magazines this feels like something Bill Ruger would have made....for half the price
Looks like a Ruger PC carbine to me
I am pretty sure Ruger did make this, I have one in my safe right now, it is called the RUGER PC carbine.
I love Henry, but this really does feel like a worse, more expensive Ruger PCC.
@@Wachtier After seeing both again, I agree.
Where have you been? Ruger has been producing the pc carbine for years. Takes Ruger and Glock mags. And costs a lot less.
A perfect carbine for the person that isn't really a gun person but wants something easier to shoot than a pistol. This would be good for any homestead situation you might find yourself in.
That 10 rd magazine is terrifying, who in their right mind would need such an insane amount of firepower, that’s like 20 lungs blown out of 10 bodies! (s)
I have some pre ban Marlin 20 round mags for my MarlinCamp 9 mentioned in the video. Pistol caliber carbines are are super fun, and yes, they can be home defense weapons too!
thanks for joining the conversation .......Joe Biden
I don’t know Tim, that full semi auto that blows lungs clean out of people, is scaring the s**t outa me!
I think you’re correct that this might be geared towards people in more restrictive states. I’d consider one though for something different on the range 🤷♂️
And old farts. The Ruger forum is filled with boomers and Fudds and they were going crazy over this when it was announced.
It also has second cool/collector value imo.
Not necessarily the gun you'd grab at the end of the world but a fun gun to own and shoot if you've already got your self defence firearms squared away.
He had far better results with the factory mags than Honest Outlaw did.
thinking it was the Blazer ammo he was using....my Henry lever action doesn't care for it either(warns against it in the owners manual also)
Honest outlaw has more problems out of guns than anyone
@bobbymcaliley1214 it's cause he uses cheap ammo and doesn't clean his guns. There was a .357 Mag video and you could literally see the soot all over the cylinder
Honest outlaw has issues with any gun company that doesn’t seem to send him free stuff. I wanted to like him but no way he mysteriously gets the bad version of so many guns he reviews.
the gun was so scared of honest outlaw that it stuttered while it shot (its just really shy, dont shame it guys!!)
The Homesteader is also available with Sig P320 & S&W M&P Mag compatibility.
I'm posting this 7 months later and no, it's not available. Not even now. They promised those magwells, but did not deliver. UPDATE: Made available in May 2024.
10mm and then we are talking
I'm waiting for a non threaded barrel model that is legal in N.Y.. Henry says they are working on it. That said I'm still using my 40 year old Marlin Camp Carbine. I've collected parts for it over the years to keep it going. If you find one, you must disassemble it before using it to check the condition of the bolt recoil buffer. If its old, it will likely shatter at some point (as mine eventually did) and cost you a few bucks for your gunsmith to put some bent parts back in order. Ruger uses the same buffer set up as the Marlin, so I'd keep an eye on that too, if you have one.Thankfully, the Homesteader seems free of that issue.
That’s good news I need a nonthreaded model as well, did they say roughly when?
This NEEDS to come out in 10mm Auto!!!!
Looks like a nice option for someone who wants a 9mm carbine with a more traditional look, rather than one of the many plastic stock models currently on the market.
I remember when this gun first came out in the 80's..
It was called the Markin Camp Carbine and was a fantastic little firearm..
😁Yup I have one from 1990. It has a receiver made of one piece solid milled steel. Makes it heavy for a PCC. They are fun ...and yes fantastic
This is far better built, far better.
they just released on the market...how would you know. Have you done extensive testing?@@alanmeyers3957
I literally got PTSD at 6:13 and I'm shaking and crying right now. Somebody help! I need a Safe Space! 😥
There, there…
There, there…

Seeing that assault clip was scary I've already contacted my therapist!
@@30rdmaga I’m still trembling too hard to contact anyone. How DARE he expose us to that MurderDeathKill machine of mass destruction?
@@30rdmagaI have mine on speed dial
A 9mm carbine is perfect for farm/land management. My 124 XTP loads go 1,350fps, 500 foot pounds with excellent expansion is no joke
Perfect for finishing off sick livestock.
Judging by the numbers, 9mm carbine with good ammo should hit like .357 out of a medium barrel revolver.
@@empireoflizards that’s what I’ve seen also, obviously a hell of a lot easier to be accurate with a longer barreled gun with a stock plus a scope on mine. Both great options nonetheless
@@rex8958 9mm ammo is much cheaper too. I still love my Henry .357 carbine though.
Interesting little Carbine! I have a much loved and used Marlin Camp 9 Carbine.
Videos getting funnier and more inventive.
👍
Henry does sell a picatinny rail that works for it. I have it on mine. Love this PCC!
Skinner makes a rail and receiver mounted peep sight combo. They also sell a plain rail. Henry has a plain rail plus short mounts for docter and RMR footprint red dots. I'm running the Skinner rail and sight set on my Homesteader.
I love the looks, it's like something T.C. Johnson would have designed.
I used to want a Marlin Model 9 Camp Carbine when I was a kid too, but never acquired one. I used to see them in Walmart back in the late 80’s and early 90’s. They always caught my eye.
I thought that was an innocent rifle that would never harm anybody until I saw you put that 10-round assault clip inside of it!!!
Not only the assault clip, but from what we saw, apparently it also happens to go full semi-auto...
@@hansvonmannschaft9062 my goodness I'm going to have to call my therapist!
You turned it into a weapon of DEATH with that 10 round mag!
now, now, lets remember that a 10 round semi automatic rifle with a wooden stock is completely safe and can't harm anyone. It's only an assault rifle if you replace that 10 round magazine with an 11 round magazine, then it becomes an assault weapon. And once you replace the wooden stock with a black plastic one, now it's a weapon of mass destruction; cmon people, lets get it right.
10 round clip😂😂😂😂
I wish you gave us more warning. When you fired off those ten rounds, I nearly screamed.
Hang in there. Drink a beer, except Bud Light of course. 😊
@@douglass56 Because this whole channel's audience, up until a few weeks ago, didn't buy Bud Light by the case.
F ucking snowflakes.
Don’t be a girly man!💪
Cool gun and cool concept of a wood "nice" semi-auto. However, maybe its me but it looks like my old Crossman 760 :)
Probably going to scoop on of these as they become more available.
I know Mac is a bigger dude, I’ve never met him and would be honored to, but having held and fired this rifle myself it looks so much smaller in his hands!
I’d really like this in another caliber like 45 or 10mm.
or .44 mag. 😁
10mm yes 45acp just no
@@erivon2234 45 would be great for suppressor use
@@bloodking73 my thought exactly
@@mutationdesign He said they make it in .45.
I sold one of those Marlins, in .45ACP, when I worked at Kmart in the 1980s.
If you had a pallet load of them today. You would be rich
The only thing I don't like about this review, is I don't own the Henry Homesteader. It is a beautiful weapon.
I bought a Homesteader because Henry made it. I'm a lever action guy with a safe full of Henry's. It is a great little carbine that reminds this 56 year old of an M-1 carbine. I have sent about 200 rounds downrange with ZERO issues. Just keep the action clean and use good ammo, not the cheaper crap. I like Federal, American Eagle in mine or higher quality. As far as price,....it can be had for $749 to $799 if you are willing to look. I prefer the wood furniture over the plastic found on Ruger PCC, and to me, that alone is worth the extra price. It is made for predators and home defense. It is NOT an AR, sniper or deer rifle. Out to fifty yards with good ammo, it is a tack driver for sure. Beware the hard core Ruger lovers on UA-cam, as a rule they hate Henry and don't miss an opportunity to dog Henry Repeating Arms. These same folks used to complain about the price Of Henry's, both tube feed and the loading gate models. Then when Ruger bought out Marlin and the prices exceeded that of Henrys, not a peep. Suddenly, prices don't matter as much.
A rifle that doesn't have a feature where it folds or breaks down. Love it. Those break down features just add weight. Also how many people actually will use the folding feature? A rifle that barely has any plastic. Love it
Folding mechanisms barely add any weight and all those guns are way lighter than this Henry.
Folding feature is a big deal for me, I live in a dense City where I can't just be bringing rifle bags around. For many people Takedown features are worthless but for me they're a huge selling point
I have looked at a couple videos of the Homesteader, but did not realize it had a 1907 type system, that makes me want one even more.
Now HENRY please take a look at the Old Ruger 44 carbine! A Homesteader Magnum would be Amazing! And be Straight Wall legal Deer Rifle in many states!
Happy Stick......YES!
Henry went to all this trouble to make an "inoffensive" semiauto carbine. So, naturally, with a few weeks, someone will have one with a side folder, M-Lok fore end and ALL the attachments. Probably SBR'd, too. Why? Because reasons. Because 'Murica!
I'm glad to see this carbine on the market, wish it was priced better unfortunately
Mac, maybe you were unaware that a flash suppressor turns a assault weapon into a fully-semi automatic.
Capable of shooting 10,000 lung blowing out rounds per second.
Really?
That cut to the "stendo" about 6 minutes in just caused Rosie (Jabba) O'Donnell to inhale another gallon of comfort ice cream. Hopefully her heart will be giving out soon.
It looks great but I still love my Hi-Point 10 mm carbine. It's not fancy but it doesn't have to be because it's 10 mm the gentlemen's round.
Love those Hi Points! 995ts owner here!
Glock mags make the most sense, but it would be very cool with a double feed bolt and Colt SMG mags. It would need a metal mag well that reaches down a bit.
Not sure if that can be done. Depends on how wide the top of the magazine is.I tested CZ Scorpion magazines and they are far too wide. Colt magazines may be narrower.
Hopefully Henry will expand the caliber options.
40sw, I would love.
A 10 mm chambering would be awesome. With the 16 inch barrel, a 10 mm version wouldn’t make a half bad close range deer gun!
I have seen 3 or 4 videos that the Henry magazines were having problems but a lot more that the glock magazine adapter is working without problems.
I checked and Henry told at least one to return the rifle and they will check it. So get the adapter use glock mags
The happy stick made it alllll better. Love it. Would love to plink with this little thing. I don't know if it's small or you're just huge.
I don’t know if you’ve reviewed the Marlin Camp carbine but I hope that makes a return to the market, since 9mm carbines are the newest craze.
Tim, your luck is changing. Only 2 reviewers I trust are Honest Outlaw and you. Honest Outlaw did not have such good luck with his Homesteader.
I feel like Mac may have gotten some incentive to review this one…
@@CorgiArms I really don't think so. Tim is a straight up honest guy who resisted taking ads for a long time.
Back in the 80. A after market company made magazine of 22 rounds for the marlin camp carbine it also fit the Browning high power pistol for what I bought it for. in my pistol is work perfect. It came with 13 round that 22 round magizine would eat up a box shells so fast it would make. Your head spin! Marlin made. Some wonderful guns there 3030 deluxe was a bueatfull gun
Thanks!
Good info,,,,something we may want to keep in mind with the whole bank deal is that in early 1922 160 german marks was worth one dollar by November 1923,hint,hint,,,it took 4.2 BILLION marks to make the value of one dollar ,,,if you thought gold was going to save you back then it was still worth $20 an ounce.
The fact he's trolling all these anti-gunners is pure gold. I want one of these though I wish they'd release it in something like 10mm or 45 ACP. At which point becomes a perfect home defense PCC.
This is something I'd get for my mom if it weren't so expensive.
Ruger's PCC is close. It doesn't have the wood furniture, though, or the option of a Sig/M&P mag well.
Not that it’s cheap, but I got mine at sportsmans warehouse for 275 below msrp. That put it down in the attainable category for me. Smaller shops usually have better prices than SW so hopefully you can find one even cheaper than mine.
@@3jeepdiscovery still expensive - it probably doesn't cost company more than $100 to make it. How dare companies still make profit and a living for themselves, when economy is so bad and people has no money. They should sell at cost and shove it.
Nice little rifle! I remember the Marlin camp carbine, a friend had one. I always thought they looked a bit odd with the magazine well that hung down in front of the trigger guard, but I guess it had to, to accommodate pistol magazines.
only 10 rounds?!? what if an army of 11+ armored rabid squirrels come after me?!?
You'll have to resort to Glock mags.
This is a total meh. The Ruger has more features included and takes down for $300 less.
Just not quite as pretty though! The ruger is a solid carbine, I put the back packer stock on mine, it’s a handy little rifle.
That's one big reason why more rifles don't have wood stocks today. Price.
I have a new Marlin Camp 9mm. Original owner. I say new because I don't shoot it. I need this Henry now.
I feel like I can do prohibition era Sheriff role playing with this
I just got one of these today. I don't have a Glock but I do have a Sig P320 and thankfully, Henry has an mag adaptor for that. When it comes in later this week, I'll try to remember to post about how well it works with P320 mags as almost EVERY video about this firearm is about the Glock or Henry mags.
The Homesteader is a jam-o-matic with the Sig mag well. Don't waste your time with it. After 4 trips to the range, it was having FTF and bolt not locking open on last rd. issues far too frequently. Even if you don't own a Glock and want to get this firearm, get some Glock mags. They're affordable, the Magpul Glock mags even more so. So I got a Glock mag well to see if that'd fix the issues vs. sending it in for warranty work. I traded one of my other Sig handguns (SP2022) and got a G47 which has much more accessory and capacity options. It's an upgrade I've been wanting to do for a while and the issues with my Homesteader just accelerated that decision to make a trade. I took my Homesteader and G47 to the range today, put about 300 or so rds through the Homesteader and it worked flawlessly with both the Glock factory mags and the Magpul Glock mags. So, it seems I sort of called out what would go wrong with my initial post. There's a reason there's no reviews of the Homesteader with Sig mags.
Another update. I've made a few more trips to the range with the Homesteader. It continues to run flawlessly with Glock mags. I like what Henry was going for with multiple mag well choices but it seems the only serious option is the Glock mag well. The Henry mags are too low capacity and the Sig/M&P mag well is, from my experience at least, is unreliable.
YUP! that was a great video. i love that rifle, my hands are very arthritic, so a 9mm pistol recoil is too harsh. this rifle is just what i need. it is a bit expensive, BUT IT'S A HENRY! showing the take down was great, the Glock mag well is fantastic. yup, thank you for this video. oh yeah, firing that with the can on it, was that with the Federal ammo you used the entire video? that was super quiet, nothing but the bolt action. great video!!
It did not make the network news programs, but about a year after the slaughter at Parkland High School in Florida the Law Enforcement agencies quietly revealed that the madman killer ONLY HAD FIVE-ROUND MAGAZINES. He sought for full-size mags but they were sold out everywhere he looked, and so bought a bunch of five-rounders! After he shot people he had to go hide in a stairwell to reload his magazines, but he did it in a panic and so completely jammed his rifle. This is why he fled from the scene, mingling with the running students...........................elsullo
Interesting.....
As soon as I saw the glock mag go in it I was sold
Reminds me of the old .351 our Sheriff's Office had...
Great review and disassembly tutorial! Thank you. Gotta get me one now.
Didn't Marlin make a Camp Carbine years ago that looks similar? I think it used S&W M39 mags in 9mm and 1911 mags in the .45 ACP version.
I wish they would make one in 45 acp but that looks like a handy rifle to have.
this with drum mag would be so much win.
Wrap the thread protector with a piece of leather before using the pliers.
Great video. Had a few Marlin carbines but like the Colt type better. The new Henry 9mm looks great.
I was looking for this. Thanks.
Yeah Tim i have a camp carbine in 45ACP it uses 1911 mags
**For that price they better make it 45 ACP + 10 mm they want to get my business of course Glock magazine compatible.
**But I'm hoping Ruger will bring their PC carbine out in 10 mm in 45 ACP
If it was less money it would make a lot of sense. It’s expensive to produce things in the US but you can get AR15’s properly outfitted for the same cost. You could buy a S&W AR a aling, mags, white light and maybe even an optic if you shop sales for that same cost.
I like it.. old school looks, glock mag function.
I hope they'll make them in the better mm 10 or 11.5mm.
Vs the camp 9 this one wins with the left hand charging handle, the treaded barrel and glock mags.
Camp 9 wins with much simpler design one piece stock easier take down no weight in the fore grip just a recoil sping and buffer behind the bolt in the receiver. Uses S&W 5900 mags.
The Camp 9 is so rare every time I take it to the range everyone's gota ask me about it.
me too . Its a a head turner. people thinks it s a 22 lr. I can crank gongs at 100 yards with 9mm.
The funny thing with Mac saying all that is that this rifle is banned in Washington State haha
Would love a 40SW!
Ruger made a 40 PCC from 1996-2005 and then the new PCC take down also has a rare 40 cal version
excellent job
We need this in 10 m m
This thing is pretty sweet.
Just get at Ruger PC9. Takes all my Glock 33 rounders. Love it
I wanted the Marlin Camp in 45 acp
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
With mp5 mags, this would be a real looker
An opportunity missed indeed. I looked at making an aftermarket adapter for MP5, but it's impossible unfortunately. Sides of the bolt that engage with action bars interfere with the MP5 magazine. This cannot be fixed unless Henry re-profile the bolt.
Overweight yet underpowered. Fun to shoot I bet. Thanks for sharing.
Next time you need to use pliers that way, wrap the jaws in masking tape. It helps to keep it from scarring the thing you are trying to grip.
I need to get one thank you for the awesome review.....
Nice Rifle....Thanks Mac....

Just bought mine awesome gun
My grandpa has a camp carbine with that folding stock on it. I didnt shoot my first deer with it but i shot AT my first deer with it. In retrospect i was no where near the marksmanship or discipline level ready to take that shot but it wasnt the rifle.
I wish Henry had put an adjustable peep sight and Picatinny rail on the receiver and installed a fiber optic rod in the front sight. I suspect you will need a cheek riser if you install a scope
chamber it in 10mm and turn that genius forward spring/counterweight system into a gas port/gas piston !
I was considering a Chiapa M1 beforehand though hesitant about its reliability from all the reviews. This seems like a way better way to go.
Henrry: *looks at Rugers homework* "Lets make that but change it a little...and for fudds"
a great video and carbine.
I do like my camp carbine in 9mm. Have had to replace the stock and buffer pad, after 20 years of shooting it. Would like to find the 45 model.
Id love to see it 10mm
I've seen a couple that were jam-o-matics.
Thanx Tim for another great video, I really appreciate you taking the gun apart for us , I’m hoping to buy one tomorrow, it’s 3:am n I’m watching videos over to get excited about my new purchase !! From Commy Ct.💥🔫
It feels and looks great... Just be aware they are a bit hefty if you've just picked up a Sub2000 or the new S&W folding 9mm carbine beforehand... I do like it better than the Ruger PCC until they make a widely available charger style 1913 railed end cap 16" barrel version, or atleast one with a really well thoughtout folding stock... If you don't mind the folding/weight penalty this thing definitely makes up some penalties with aesthetics... I just wish the M&P folding carbine could take glock mags! Currently it's my favorite design... Although it's a bit apples to oranges comparing this to anything besides the ruger...
Thanks for your comparison. I was thinking there was complete overlap with the ruger pcc. I wasn't even considering the kel tec and was unaware of s&w's entry into this segment of the market.
They should make it accept a PSA AKV 35 round mag so it looks like an m1 carbine. Also , they should make a takedown version so you can fit it into your backpack too
I was in the market for a 9mm carbine, and I really wanted it to be this one. It has some really nice features. I love my other Henrys. But Ruger got my money.
I must admit that it has classy lines.
Thanks Tim, was looking for this one ;)
