@@AZURLITENTERTAINMENT I would love to have Paul give an education to all our sitting politicians on firearms. I have a PC Carbine. I too have “aging eyes”. Shoots ok with stock sights. Put a $20 red dot on it and GREATLY improved the accuracy. Also have a G19 so I changed out the mag well. Works great with G19 mags, G17 mags and fun sticks. Hundreds of rounds, no malfunctions, although the brass has lots of soot on it. Paul, your “catch phrases” are fine. Always love Paul's evaluations. My experience with my PC Carbine is much different. My aging eyes do better with a scope, so I put a 1-4 power variable scope on my Ruger PC Carbine. Not having sighted it in, I began at 10 yards, and after putting a hole in the target, I failed to see any other holes from my subsequent rounds. Upon approaching the target, I found all my rounds produced a single hole not much larger than a 9mm bullet. I was impressed, to say the least, so I sighted it in and went to 15 yards, where I was able to place all rounds in a single, slightly ragged hole. So far, all I had used was some 30 year old, cheap, brass colored Chinese ammo. I found that my Underwood, +P, Extreme Defender, 65 grain ammo, was just as accurate, although the point of aim changed by about an inch. Losing the Iron sights, proved to me that this carbine is capable of exceptional accuracy. I will have to Chrono the Underwood ammo, but I'm guessing MV will exceed 2000 FPS (close range deer a possibility?) I had zero problems with function, and am very impressed with the PC carbine. I have no connection to Ruger, or any other manufacturer, but I am impressed.
That's a great point. It was a very good video, and he did mention the short sight radius was easily rectified, but it would have been even better to see a comparison between the Ruger PC Carbine and the Beretta CX4 Storm both scoped with the exact same glass or red or green dot optic. Maybe Paul will use some patreon money to purchase two or three identical Holosuns that he can make direct comparisons with.
I have to say I purchased this on a impulse buy for a decent (california) price. It being a Ruger it was practically a given that it would be reliable. I also knew that it being a Ruger that at least in my experience, it would likely be very inaccurate out of the box like my old mini 14. When I finally got a chance to shoot it I was correct on the reliability. Hundreds of rounds of different stripes, zero hiccups. Both the ruger mags and the included glock well worked great. I was DEAD WRONG about the accuracy out of the box with the Iron sights. Similar to like how you described I saw the first hits from about 15 yards. Many rounds went thru the exact same relative entry point. I was very impressed. I think I'll pick up another one if I can find it.
I have a PC carbine (using Glock magazines) with an EOTech red dot sight mounted and I have to say out to 100 meters it is shooting groups within 2-3 inches (Federal 115 grain)...about the maximum I would employ it with 9mm. My wife and I (both ex military and LEO) think it is a great carbine right out of the box. We are both really impressed with it.
Good point. The barrel is good quality and is capable of good accuracy. A simple 4x scope made mine very accurate. . That Ghost ring works ok for quick shots but not for any distance.
Same feelings here. I like the Ruger and can't see squat without a scope. So the dislike of the sights doesn't really help me evaluate how the Ruger will perform for me.
My father was an Army Ranger stationed in the Panama Canal Zone during WWII. His squad/patrol slept in tents from the north (Pacific Ocean) to the south (Atlantic Ocean) while they looked for Jap and Nazi soldiers who were trying to shut down the canal. Everyone in his patrol had a choice of weapons. No one would touch an M1 carbine. He said in a fire-fight, the carbine was worthless compared to the M1 Garand. He was in one or more of these encounters with the Nazis. He talked me out of buying a used M1 carbine in the late 60's because of his story. That rifle had been used in Europe against the Germans. Now, I wish I would have bought it because of its history. Paul, all of your videos are worth watching. Thanks.
Greetings from the Czech Republic. About a half a year ago I bought the Ruger PCC, since then I´ve put around 400 rounds through it and not a single malfunction. I´ve also tried different loads, even ones that are very weak and it chewed through everything. The only thing I don´t like is the takedown feature, because if you do not tighten the barrel correctly, it shoots horrible. That being said I put a Vortex Crossfire red dot on it and am being able to get 5 cm(2 inch) groups at 50 meters(55 feet). The reason why I bought the ruger was the cost since Evo and Ar9 cost around 32500 crowns (+-1500 dollars), and ruger costs 18500 (+-840 dollars). The weight is good thing for me since I don´t carry it around and it keeps the shots in place. I can only recommend.
For the record, if it fits, wear it. My Ruger PC9 Carbine fits me and has been a ( fun gun ) to shoot. I did mount an optic and weapon light and have a 32 round Glock mag inserted. I use +p ammo and have had no issues with function. It is my favorite bedside weapon. Good video!
Paul took a detailed subject and broke it down professionally. I personally like pistol caliber carbines, and agree their blowback design seems to add to felt recoil. A 9mm +p round out of a 16 inch barrel carbine can be a show stopper to be sure.
What I find keeps bringing me back to Paul’s videos is his character and the matter of fact way he presents information. A big part of what makes these videos special are the catch phrases and sarcastic humour. Keep it up!!!
the recoil is due to the tungsten weight at the back of the bolt carrier that assists in the blowback operation. That weight is heavy slamming back with each shot.
It's only a matter of time now. The new "chassis" model has a pic-rail stock mount already so all they'll have to do is create a shorter fore-end. 8"-10" with an mlok handguard would be perfect imo.
There's a 6.5" version now. I know that's shorter than some people were hoping for, but apparently people can happily ring plates with it at 100 yards, and the extremely compact size means you can have a large suppressor on it and still have a very convenient takedown size.
30:21... Is that a smile I see beginning to form after your usual disclaimers? 😂😁 Thanks for the upload and for continuing to share your education and observations with us Paul!!!
One of these was shot in my Gunsite class with a simple sig Romeo red dot, and other than the range limitation of the cartridge, it performed extremely well. Honestly everybody was impressed. After what I saw and shooting a few rounds myself I wouldn't hesitate using or recommending one. ...and it's a takedown!
@@SaftonYT It isn't, it was a pointer towards the weight and overall size which is atypical for a a carbine. While it's nice to take it apart, I joked that taking it apart made it able to share the weight between two people.
I got my pcc last year, put on a sig optic, switched to glock mags, put 33 rounders through it dozens of times. NO malfunctions even with the cheapest steel cased ammo. easily 2,000 rounds down range.
I have had zero malfunctions in mt Ruger PC9 carbine and have fired over 6 various ammos of 6 various ammo companies. and have shot several hundred total rounds. LOVE this gun.
My gf has the PCC Ruger. Its short enough because she has TRex arms. She loves it and the rest of us really enjoy shooting it as well. Never had a problem with ammo.
Indeed, a 30 or 33 round magazine is ideal for pistol caliber carbines, which are a better choice for urban and suburban locations than an AR-15 for self-defense.
Just bought a Ruger PC Carbine backpacker with Magpul stock. Compatible with Glock or Ruger mags. Absolutely love everything about it. I shot it remarkably accurately out of the box with the factory peep. Possibly the most fun and practical weapon I have ever fired. Plan to use it for home defense/SUV/RV/Bugout/Survival rifle. Will do all of those well for me. I added a Red Dot, light, sling and brass catcher for the range. Put 300 rounds down range and it never malfunctioned. Love that it is made in the USA. I posted my own review with the kit upgrades for anybody interested. Bravo Ruger. Bravo!
Go to the rental gun ranges. They all love the Beretta, it’s far away their favourite PCC. However the Ruger is new and is showing up and may also end up taking this spot. So far however both my local ranges say the Beretta is still their favourite. However the Kriss Vector is the favourite for shooters, (probably due mostly to appearance and reputation). But already there is a very large aftermarket for the Ruger and at least 3 configurations and 3 new trigger groups so there’s that.
The location of the rear sight on the Ruger PCC is actually an enormous attraction for me. Being 60 yo but still having 20/15 vision it works well for me because I, as most all people beyond their late 40's, require Reading Glasses for anything up to about 18". I even added all the spacers on my stock, increasing the pull but also giving me a usable sight picture. The ability to use Glock Magazines in it is also another huge plus for me. I love my old P95 but the mags won't work. The cut out in the mag body that catches the Magazine Latch is in a different place so without modification i.e. gettin' Farmer on it with a Dremel, they won't work.
mine performed similar to what he has shown. then i switch to 124 grain flat point and the accuracy improved tremendously. then when i put a red dot on it. it is a tack driver at 50 yard. very happy with the product. and this was and awesome video showing the differences. love this channel
The Marlin comes with a magazine compatible with the S&W 6900 Series, which was the short/compact series of the 5900 series and had 12 round mags. I had a Marlin Carbine and the mags would swap from the S&W Model 6906 or the earlier 469 Compact 9mm. The Carbine and the 69 series pistols would also take the 5900 series mags, although they would protrude from the mag well. In fact my reload mags were from my S&W 5906 I carried at one time.
Good video Paul. Just a couple notes about the CX4. It can be bought configured to the PX4 or the 92 and you can change out the magwell adapter for either model of pistol. I think the adapter runs around $40. The other thing is that there are 1/2" spacers to change the length of pull of on the CX4, I believe a total of 2". Sierra Pappa's trigger upgrades do help quite a bit.
Good evening Paul Harrell. First I want to thank you for another good and thorough review. I never fail to learn from your thought reviews. All the best to you. Be safe.
Ok, I *DID* actually laugh out loud at the “meddling kids” ending!!!! The only thing that needs to be changed about your catch phrases is..... *WE WANT SHIRTS WITH THEM ON THEM!!!!!!!*
Oh, ya, my little beast. Accurate, reliable, seems to eat anything and heavy. Did I mention it was heavy? My only real annoyance with the gun is the cheek pad pulls the beard if you have one or chafes the skin if you don't. Someone suggested sprinkling the pad with baby power, but that might spoil the little beast's beast image.
Have three 9mm PCC's...1 Ruger PC9 and 2 Hi-Point 995. Have so much 9mm ammo I figured my seven 9mm pistols needed some additional bang sticks. I love all 3 of my 9mm PCC's. Thanks, Paul.
When I first bought my Ruger PCC I loved it, but within a few hundred rounds it started getting fails to eject which were usually stove pipes with the occasional partial extract and resulting log jam. Over a few more range trips and some attempts at 'process of elimination' switching ammo and mags, the problem only got worst. I was about to give up on it when I thought to check the three Allen head screws that affix the 'takedown' coupler to the receiver; sure enough they'd come quite loose. I re-tighten them and it's run flawlessly ever since. The only thing I didn't like about it, other than that brief time it wasn't behaving, was how hard it was for my quinquagenary eyes to quickly or easily get a sight picture using the iron sights. A red dot most certainly resolved that issue, but I still wanted a better iron sight set-up should the red dot fail. Enter the Tandemkross fiber optic from sight upgrade. That along made all the difference. I decided to take it a step further and used florescent orange paint on the ghost ring to make that pop. Now it's so, so much easier and accurate to shoot. I too was surprised at how much recoil is felt, I suspect it's the tungsten block in the bolt carrier group.
Hello friend from the distant past! I've long wanted one of these and given the chance to fire one was shocked at the felt recoil. It's 9MM! Why does it feel like I'm getting slugged? I may end up revisiting the platform now that the MK2 versions are out and I have a more realistic expectation of the platform. There's a lot to offer here. Thanks for your input on potential assembly flaws. :)
Paul, do not change anything about your dialogue. Your teaching instruction and demonstration is excellent, and it is what we have come to know and love!
I'd love to see a comparison of the Underwood "philips screwdriver" ammo in a PCC vs a pistol. That ammo has no risk of over-expansion at higher velocity. Also, the sarcasm a the end made me laugh. 👍
Those rounds are devastating to fleshy targets, but they have a tendency to over-penetrate light barriers like drywall. Not a great choice for use in home defense, but outdoors, they’re awesome.
I have the SR9/PC9 combination and have been very satisfied with both overall. I like the interchangeability of magazines and the fact that 9MM is a common, inexpensive, and until recently (pronounced BEER), easily obtainable round. I don't have a massive gun budget so affordability was a factor as well.
Thank you and note to self: Paul Harrell has saved me from making THREE mistakes by steering me away from ALL three PCC firearms as shown in this video. Having just traded my way to a Ruger PC carbine, this video has taken on a whole new significance since my first viewing. Wisdom In Posterity, my friends. That is a unique feature of our pal Paul. Thanks!
Thank you Paul for 36 minutes(!) of review on: 1) a PCC you don't really care for, and 2) A PCC I bought earlier today. (Did you sell yours?) With the included Glock mag-well it can be fed by a Glock-style 2 x 50rd "double-drum" which could be fun when I get together with an old College buddy and we go plinking in the hills, he with his $1/round 30-30 and I with my $.22/round 9mm. Yes, two rather differing impact energies but what's a jug of colored water or a shoot-n-see sticky target care. I also thought it might be reasonably effective should crowd control become an issue on the home-front brought on perhaps by a Kung-Flu panicked pack of 2-legged beasties. Excellent review, and no, you didn't burst my bubble. I didn't expect Creedmoor accuracy and I respect your bias-free perspective. Stay Well -
The bit no one can factor into a review is how much someone else is going to enjoy that firearm. If you like a particular gun, for whatever reason that appeals to you, you'll enjoy it. If you keep worrying about what others think about your firearm or caliber, you'll never be happy. Too many seem so invested in their choices and uninformed opinions gained from the internet, they get really upset over anyone else choosing an alternative. IMO, there's nothing worse than someone trying to tell someone else what gun they should have and why the one they are buying is worthless, without having the slightest idea what that person's circumstances are and the environment they live in. I'm just glad there are other enthusiasts out there and that manufacturers keep coming up with new and sometimes resurrected versions of products from the past to tempt us to buy something else. That's one of the things I like about Paul's videos, is that he doesn't try to tell others what they should do, but instead discusses things and puts forward ideas that help you make your own decisions and learn some new techniques and things along the way.
@@ryanf922 I don't think it's all that valid a point to compare pricing in a healthy country to that of the same country when under siege by foreign & domestic enemies.

I have used these rifles a lot over the past year. I currently own 4 of them and use them for training new shooters. I have two of them that are kept perfectly clean and ready for use, two of them were not cleaned for the first 2,000 rounds. And found it, clean or dirty, to be extremely reliable. I like them. They work. Annd many of my students, use them as home defense firearms. We mount a red dot on the top and limit range to 50 yards and for a $500 PCC, I do not know how one could do much better. Mine are converted to GLOCK mags for compatibility with a pistol I own.
@@jimmyruger7529 Fair enough. I more meant that someone buying this was statistically more likely to have a Glock, anyway. Or at the very least, would prefer the cost/availability of Glock mags over Ruger mags (I fit in the latter category).
Sounds like Paul would still disagree for himself. He didn't shoot it well, and it's about the same size as whatever AR he had there at the end. Might as well throw the red dot on the AR and have something more powerful that way.

Stumbled across Paul Harrell recently and have watched maybe a dozen videos - and I will watch many more. Now, I know he has a huge and loyal following, but here’s what I found impressive. He basically gave an unflattering review to the Ruger, yet there are a number of comments from Ruger PC owners, and none of them are angry at him. I suspect that’s because he carefully outlined the reasons why the Ruger was not the best choice for him, instead of simply trashing the rifle in broad terms, with inflammatory and absolute language, based on weight, his ability to shoot with it, sight location, etc. Obviously, this style is his trademark. Such a pleasure to view his adult, balanced, thoughtful, and credible videos.

Paul I can't explain this but when I watch your videos I feel like I'm 30 years in the past in a good way and it keeps me coming back
Bought my Ruger PC Carbine nearly 2 years ago when they first came out. Thousands and thousands of rounds later I still love that thing shooting it at least a few times a month. Mine has a nice trigger and is very accurate. Great video. Subscribed.
Uses glock as well
The Rugar is what I'm looking at. Especially since I found out it can use Glock magazines. I'll probably get one in another month or so.
@Fred Freddy I added a Solosight to mine. Nice red dot.
Only one issue for me: It’s heavy for a take down. Off to the gym I go😆
Does have bolt lock open on last round fired? Especially with Glock mags?
I wish I could talk like this guy. Some people just have this incredible ability to talk without stuttering or stopping to have to think, Paul's one of em. So intelligent on all matters gun. Really enjoy watching these vids.

@@gutyourtrust Agreed. A big part of teaching is communicating concisely and even just one or two practices of a presentation makes a world of difference.
If all other content on UA-cam got removed and all that was left was Paul's videos, it would still be the best site on the Internet and, in a lot of ways, the better for it. Rest in Peace Paul, and thanks for all the fish.
Paul Harrell.....I wish there were more Paul Harrell's in the world. (Take that as a compliment as it was meant as a compliment.)
Paul Harrell IS a national treasure. Keep it up Paul, it's much appreciated.

Paul Harrell is a level I aspire to.
@@AZURLITENTERTAINMENT I would love to have Paul give an education to all our sitting politicians on firearms. Maybe then they could tell the difference between an automatic, a semi-automatic, and a single fire firearm. And then they at least could not claim that a .223 / 5.56 is as powerful as a .50 BMG, and claim ignorance when confronted about it.

I enjoy all of them, please do not discontinue. As far as your “speech impediment”, never noticed it. And your “shatneresque” pauses, never noticed. As always, love your videos. Craig, C/2/16 1st Inf Div. 1969
I, also, swapped the mag wells to the Glock mags. Good 3rd party Glock mags are much easier, and less expensive, to find than Ruger mags.
What model red dot did you put on for $20?
Might I recommend a Holosun 507c or a 508t? It costs a bit more than $20 but has shown its self to be very durable

No joke man as i wish that every time i watch this guy. I mean have you watched him fire off the M1 and M1A!?!
The only thing I don´t like is the takedown feature, because if you do not
tighten the barrel correctly, it shoots horrible.
Good video!
Right on

Paul took a detailed subject and broke it down professionally. I personally like pistol caliber carbines, and agree their blowback design seems to add to felt recoil. A 9mm +p round out of a 16 inch barrel carbine can be a show stopper to be sure.
Yes it can a very overlooked tool

What I find keeps bringing me back to Paul’s videos is his character and the matter of fact way he presents information. A big part of what makes these videos special are the catch phrases and sarcastic humour. Keep it up!!!
the recoil is due to the tungsten weight at the back of the bolt carrier that assists in the blowback operation. That weight is heavy slamming back with each shot.
the sound difference between ammo types was really distinctive, did not think that would be so pronounced.
Subsonic
Yep! That was the 147 grainers
not only subs, they all sound different with different bullet weight, even the supersonics
I like the PC carbine but wish it came in a "pistol" configuration
Or bullpup, there was a company back in the day that made one for the marlin camp 9, maybe someone will make them for the new crop of pcc’s
It does now. On Ruger website
It does. It's called the PC "charger"
Such a great teacher, and Paul's teachings live forever!
I was thinking of getting one of these and found his video at the perfect time. Rip paul, thank you for everything.

My Ruger PC9 runs glock mags and I love it :)
If it was more carbine in size and weight, there would be no need for a takedown.
@@onpsxmember I don't really see the two as mutually exclusive?
@@SaftonYT
It isn't, it was a pointer towards the weight and overall size which is atypical for a a carbine.

I love my Ruger pc9. I have the insert for Glock magazines installed and l bought a few 33rd. fun sticks.
I have a keltec sub2000 that I feed almost exclusively on fun sticks. It just makes sense to have more mag capacity in a carbine.
Indeed, a 30 or 33 round magazine is ideal for pistol caliber carbines, which are a better choice for urban and suburban locations than an AR-15 for self-defense.

BAZINGA
Bravo!
*Love this channel- I WAS waiting for him to also note that the Beretta had the adjustable stock spacers too*
Even with the stock spacers the Ruger still fits me better than the Beretta.
Be safe.

I was just about to bring up the HiPoint, I have one in 45 and I like it.
But I thought the mags weren;t compatible with the pistols in the 9mm cal.
I really like how you slowly explain and show everything in a way someone who isn't military or LE can understand and follow.

Have three 9mm PCC's...1 Ruger PC9 and 2 Hi-Point 995. Have so much 9mm ammo I figured my seven 9mm pistols needed some additional bang sticks. I love all 3 of my 9mm PCC's. Thanks, Paul.
VERY thorough presentation sir. Thanks...
Honest and thorough, a wonderful combination.
Another great video. I find the Ruger PCC to be an awesome rifle when you stick a nice red dot sight on it and use glock mags.
Agreed on all points.... except the glock mags. Tried both and have better results with the ruger Security 9 mags.
"You be the judge" works just fine for me, sir!
I'll always come to you Paul for info, even if you're no longer with us to give anymore. Which makes what you given to us all much more special.
The S&W 469 takes a 12 round magazine. That was the magazine the Camp 9 was designed around. 469s will work with 59 mags but not the other way around.
I was about to say... my 6906 was a 12 shot.
I was going to ask about that, thanks
I'd love to see a comparison of the Underwood "philips screwdriver" ammo in a PCC vs a pistol. That ammo has no risk of over-expansion at higher velocity.
Also, the sarcasm a the end made me laugh. 👍
Those rounds are devastating to fleshy targets, but they have a tendency to over-penetrate light barriers like drywall. Not a great choice for use in home defense, but outdoors, they’re awesome.
Truly, I’m fixing to hunt with some 9mm extreme penetrators out of a ruger pcc next deer season. We shall see how it goes!
Paul, your the best. PLEASE PLEASE never change a thing. Honest wisdom never goes out of style. Niether will that coat you wear.
I've always liked the Beretta CX4 Storm. It's compatible with the PX4 series, the 90 series and the 8000 series magazines with available adapters.
It is also an official space gun
It’s kind of a super weird looking gun. Might be practical but it sure is ugly
Walter Hargain I have been looking at the beretta but wish it had a Glock mag adapter. I loved the one I shot.
I appreciate yourr attention to detail and honesty. You give an honest assessment, and don't promote products.
The Marlin 9mm Camp Carbine also works with the S&W 69xx Series compact 12-round magazines.

With the included Glock mag-well it can be fed by a Glock-style 2 x 50rd "double-drum" which could be fun when I get together with an old College buddy and we go plinking in the hills,
he with his $1/round 30-30 and I with my $.22/round 9mm.
Now revisit this comment (on price) in Jan 2021 haha. Fun times though.

I like your word choices, so this ending was a treat. Thanks for adding it. Keep up the great work. You videos are the most concise an informative I've found.
Bottom line: Swap in the Glock mag well, put a sight on the pic rail, and it's a worthwhile pc carbine.
I have bought n sold firearms for 40 yrs and Glock is the only company I have not owned, or do I plan to buy. Not saying anything negative about Glock
@@jimmyruger7529 Fair enough. I more meant that someone buying this was statistically more likely to have a Glock, anyway. Or at the very least, would prefer the cost/availability of Glock mags over Ruger mags (I fit in the latter category).
I thought it should have been noted that, with the Glock magwell, there is 100 per cent interchange ability with Glock 9mm double stack guns/magazines
Sounds like Paul would still disagree for himself. He didn't shoot it well, and it's about the same size as whatever AR he had there at the end. Might as well throw the red dot on the AR and have something more powerful that way.

@@GoodmanMIke59 are you sure you don't have time Mike? This seems like exactly the type of thing you would have time for.
Agreed !
@@pagnedaman3777 Dude......
Since few weeks i been following your chanel. I have to say thay i wish half of "UA-cam gun gurus" were half as professional as you do, thankyou.
Now if Ruger would come out with a 10 mm PCC I would be happier than a carp in a septic tank!
There is less velocity difference between 10mm and .40 S&W than you might think. Only about 100-150 fps more. There is already a .40 S&W version of the PC9.
@@b.griffin317 I don't have any .40's I have 9mm and 10mm. And most real 10mm far surpass .40.. I also handload and 10mm can completely knock .40 out of the game.
@@b.griffin317 Huh? Maybe between .40 and the watered-down crap that Federal puts out for sale at big-box retailers, but most definitely not true for the maximum safe pressure levels for each cartridge firing the same bullet weight.
A Ruger 10mm OCC wouldn't even notice real 10mm pressures.
@@rhettharring8254 Most ammo in stores is like that. Unless you pay out the ass or reload 10mm is overrated as you are shooting a 40S&W with a bigger case. Not all MOST. MOST. NOT. ALL.
Sorry if I come off as an ass but if I don't make sure people understand that part they will latch on as if I said all
"...go do the right thing you meddling kids! "
That's amazing.

I always thought Mary Ann would fit my hand better than I fit into Ginger's hand. LOL. I'll see myself out.
