  • What does COVID do to the brain? We know the people who have had COVID have neurological symptoms including COVID brain fog as part of long-hauler symptoms. In this video, I review a recent peer-reviewed study on structural and functional changes in the brain comparing people who have had COVID to those who did not.

I had Covid and didn’t get brain fog until I was forced to get the vaccine from my work. After both vaccines, I had a hard time for at least 2 weeks with staying on task and losing my train of thought. I got the vaccine 6 mos. After having Covid. I also showed antibodies in my blood when I got the vaccine. This should be considered in studies too.

This is the biggest mistake of the pandemic. Obliviously it should be free choice, but it makes no sense to vaccinate those with prior infection. The exception may be a booster, > 6 months after, for older/immunocompromised people, but treating everyone the same is stupid.
Fortunately some doctors have more sense. My brother had more severe COVID-9, which probably triggered 2 heart attacks, requiring surgery, at the age of 37. His doctor told him not to get vaccinated, because he has superior natural immunity and there's risk of myocarditis, yet no benefit. His in the UK, which is less crazy, than the US.

As to loss of smell- I was hospitalized for 30 days with a severe case of corona. During that time I was administered O2 by several means, including a high flow cannulas which delivered moistened and warmed O2. At one point, the water supply ran out for about 45 minutes during which I received warm dry air. This caused my nostrils and sinus areas to be "chapped". I am thinking that my loss of smell is due to this rather than any effect of the virus. As to brain function- I do not think I am any worse off over all than before. I have experienced "normal" slippage and temporary recall difficulties, but this is really not new to me.

I do not suffer from any brain fog. I do however, pray and practice meditation daily. These faith based practices help; and generally are not taken seriously in a society that has been atheistic and existential for far too long.

The normal situations like lost keys, mobile, glasses, forgeting names, passwords etc. became so frequent it scares me a lot. And I'm only forty. People around me have the same problems. Those who had lost their smell and taste often doesn't have it back after an year. The problem for sure exists. The more important question is: What do we do with that?

I had covid twice and mild as well and experiencing the exact same unsettling cognitive functioning deficits. I’m terrier because I am on younger side like you. My first case was a couple days of flu like symptoms and trek predominantly weeks of chronic headaches (never had a headache in 40 years) and tachycardia. I’m terrified we are part of a significant increase in dementia and Alzheimer’s in the younger population. The tau found in brain studies post covid is Alzheimer’s like. I knew we were in trouble in early 2020 with a population who will suffer long term ajd permanent cognitive deficits. Memory care centers will expose in coming years. I wish I was I wrong. I hope that I am. I’ve been paying attention to neuroradiology for 2 years. We need patients who had brain studies down prior to covid for other reasons and repeat after so we can control for variables.
